VWD 2008 And MS SQL 2005

Apr 22, 2008

I want to use VWD 2008 and MS SQL 2005 with SP2 for my app.

I can't make a connection to a database !!!

I created a new mdf database using SQL Server Management Studio.

When I try to connect to the new database from VWD 2008 I get the following error :

An error has ocurred while establising a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.( provider SQL Network Interfaces,Error 26 - Error Locate Server/Instance Specified)

I read over the internet many articles about but still the same result.

From this link I followed every step :

 http://www.sql-server-performance.com/faq/establishing_remote_connection_seetings_not_allow_remote_connection_p1.aspx

My SQL Server and SQL Server Browser are exempted by the firewall on the server machine. My SQL server and VWD are installed on localhost and allow remote connections are checked on database properties - connections and SQL Server Surface Area Configuration - local and remote connections.

What can I do?

Thank You !

Sql Server 2005 (business Intelligence Development Suite ) Problem Installing Sql 2005 On Vista (vs 2008)

May 7, 2008

I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista
and I would only like to keep tools meant for sql standard 2005 reporting services etc
here is a list of my sql sp2 install package
By the way I doubled clicked sql_tools.msi and did not run as administrator
Does that make a difference? I wonder if this is a problem with vs 2008 and sql 2005......

2008 Installed; Can I Remove 2005?

Apr 7, 2008

I have 2008 installed and have 'smoke tested' it (tried it on the several projects and don't appear to have any show stopper type issues). Anyways, I'd really like to remove VS 2005 if at all possible. My concern is what effect removing that is going to have one the following other installs:

SQL Server 2005 Express
SQL Management Studio (Enterprise NOT Express)
.NET Framework v2.0

If anyone can weight in on the effect uninstalling 2005 is going to have, or ways to 'safely' uninstall it without affecting any of the other installs, please let me know...

Thanks,

Visual C# 2008 EE && SQL Server 2005 EE Troubles

Hi!
I have trouble using Visual C # 2008 EE and SQL Server 2005 EE. Together with SQL Server on this computer, I successfully using VC # 2005 Prof and Web Developer 2008 EE. A VC # 2008 EE, I can not add the new connection to SQL Server 2005 through SqlClient in Database Explorer .. simply because the Change Data Source dialog does not give me this opportunity, offering a choice only MS Access, MS SQL Server Compact 3.5 and MS SQL Server Database File. I note once again that, for example, the Web Developer everything works fine.

SQL Server 2005 And 2008 X64 (installation Issues)

May 28, 2008

Hello evryone
The reason I am touching base is to get some informatyion about the SQL server x64 installation process.
I am working on windows vista x64 and have installed the visual web developer 2008 as well as visual C# 2008 which they both are working properly .
As of lateI was trying to add a SQL database to my web that I encounter an error message to have to install the SQL server 2005 express edition.
I tried the available version ,however the firsrt attempt git failed since I got the wrong link which was for x32 . Again I took the x64 version available at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx at the most bottom of the page within the Register portion. this time I faced with error message poped as : " SQL server Native Client can not be found try installation later with a valid copy of this file."
inevatably I took the SQL server 2008 express edition thread at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sp1/download/,
howeve in this attempt I can not figure out a credential account no. and password ;whatever I try can not get me pass to the next step.
I need your help to get through my project which I am at the end of it .
yours,
Hamed.

A Serious Bug In SQL-2005/2008 Replication: Loosing @@IDENTITY Value

Jul 6, 2007

Hello all!

There is a bug in SQL-2005/2008 Replication system, which may break data integrity, when using @@IDENTITY function to update FOREIGN KEY of some table.

When Merge replication is set up, and there is a table article with IDENTITY column in it, after inserting a new row in the table a value of @@IDENTITY function does not actually shows just inserted row's identity value.

This issue also generated when performing inserts via ADO.

For details, see my Feedback to Microsoft:

Oracle TimesTen Vs SQL Server 2005/2008

Nov 15, 2007

For a high-performance and time/mission-critical application in the Telecom industry we have a project where uber-low latency is crucial. Oracle has acquired TimesTen in 2005 and I was wondering if there are performance comparisons between SQL Server 2005/2008, Oracle and other DBMS vendors?

I would also like to know from you guys what your experiences are with using SQL Server for time-critical applications.

What can we do to get the maximum out of SQL Server 2005/2008 if the hardware it will run on is not an issue. For example a 16-core machine ...

Any feedback is appreciated.

SQL CLR Integration With Visual Studio 2005/2008

Mar 20, 2008

Dear all,

I am trying to integrate Sql Clr with Visual studio 2005, but i am getting the following error when i try to deploy the solution:

CREATE ASSEMBLY for assembly 'SQLCLRIntegrationDemo' failed because assembly
'SQLCLRIntegrationDemo' is not authorized for PERMISSION_SET = EXTERNAL_ACCESS.
The assembly is authorized when either of the following is true: the database owner (DBO)
has EXTERNAL ACCESS ASSEMBLY permission and the database has the TRUSTWORTHY database
property on; or the assembly is signed with a certificate or an asymmetric key that has
a corresponding login with EXTERNAL ACCESS ASSEMBLY permission. If you have restored or
attached this database, make sure the database owner is mapped to the correct login on
this server. If not, use sp_changedbowner to fix the problem. SQLCLRIntegrationDemo

I have even set the Permission to External in the Project --> Properties --> Database tab.
But still i am getting the above solution while deploying the solution.

One of the blogs suggested that the checkbox beside 'Trustworthy Database' should be checked. But i dont see any checkbase in the database tab of the Project properties.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sunny.

SQL 2005 And SQL 2008 Database Volume Capacity

Dec 1, 2007

Hi Everybody:

4 -5 years ago, I started my career as a translator translating the MetaTexis CAT (Computer Aided Translation Software).

It's amazing to see all the improvements that have been made until now, but recently I found some problems regarding
databases:

I heard that ACCESS databases volume is limited up to 2 GB and that SQL 2005 databases volume is limited up to 4 GB, but I think this information is wrong, or at least I was only able to import 10% of that amount.

Speaking in words, 2 GB doesn't represent a database with a volume of 125,000 segments/sentences (for ACCESS) and 4 GB a volume of 250,000 (for SQL 2005).

Concrete, my "mega.mxtm" database has "only" 359 MB and suddenly I refuses to import more sentences. Is that normal? (MICROSOFT SQL 2005)

Question: Is the new SQL 2008 also limited? Is there any way to "free" or increase the volume capacity?

Point 2: As I updated the SQL 2005 into 2008 I am not able to open the "old" "mega.mxtm" anymore... : (

Regards!

Can't Add Any Groups To A SQL 2005 Login On Windows 2008 Server

May 16, 2008

Hi,
We have just created a new Windows 2008 server running SQL 2005 64 bit. I am in the process of migrating old SQL 2000 databases onto this new server. One of the databases required a SQL login for some Windows groups that get created from the SMS software. I'm having a problem when I go into create a new login, select object type Groups, from this location , I enter the object name and click Check Names and it finds it. I select okay and everything looks good. But when I click ok on the New Login screen, I get the 15401 error saying that Windows NT user or group not found. I have gone into the Server Manager - Groups and verified that the group exists, and it does. The only thing I see when I click properties is on the bottom right had side of the screen it says "Changes to a user's group membership are not effective until the next time the user logs on." It says this for all the groups on this server and I get the same error message when I try to add any group. I have had the user that is a memeber of this group log off and back on a few times, but it still says the same thing and I still get the same error.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Is there something on the Windows 2008 server setup that we missed?

Thanks,
Isabelle

Problem Using DPM 2007 To Protect SQL 2005 On Server 2008

May 18, 2008

I have a problem protecting a SQL 2005 SP2 server on Windows Server 2008 (64bit), running DPM 2007 on Windows Server 2003 (32 bit).

The following SQLVDI event ID 1 is logged in the event viewer:

SQLVDI: Loc=SVDS:pen. Desc=BADMEM. ErrorCode=(-1). Process=2972. Thread=6504. Server. Instance=MSSQLSERVER. VD=Global{CC60D260-C5DD-406A-9E63-64A9503A9763}1_SQLVDIMemoryName_0.

The UUID changes each time the event is logged, but the first event is followed by:

SQLVDI: Loc=SVDS::Cleanup. Desc=Close(channel). ErrorCode=(6)The handle is invalid.

. Process=2972. Thread=6504. Server. Instance=MSSQLSERVER. VD=Global{CC60D260-C5DD-406A-9E63-64A9503A9763}1_SQLVDIMemoryName_0.

Then this is repeated twice:

SQLVDI: Loc=SVDS::Cleanup. Desc=Close(channel). ErrorCode=(6)The handle is invalid.

. Process=2972. Thread=6504. Server. Instance=MSSQLSERVER. VD=.

Event ID 3201 is then logged by MSSQLSERVER:

Cannot open backup device '{CC60D260-C5DD-406A-9E63-64A9503A9763}1'. Operating system error 0x80770006(error not found).

This is followed by Event ID 3041:

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE CommunityServer. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

It looks to me like the virtual device creation fails in the first step, the next three event messages are the cleanup of the failed virtual device, and the final two messages are the failed SQL backup as the expected device doesn't exist.

My question is why? The message seems to indicate bad memory, but I'm sure the physical memory is good - The 16GB in this server has been tested extensively, and I have no other issues. Perhaps its some sort of memory allocation error?

I'm going to apply cumulative update 7 to this SQL server to see if it makes a change. What's the latestest version of sqlvdi.dll available?

TIA,
Karl.

I am copying a database on a Sql 2005 server with SQL authentication to a SQL 2008 server with a

I take the SMO route and the process fails at the followig:
It fails in the step where there is a create package error.

-------------------------------------------

Performing operation

- Add log for package (Success)

- Add task for transferring database objects (Success)

- Create package (Error)
Messages
* While trying to find a folder on SQL an OLE DB error was encountered with error code

- Execute SQL Server Agent Job (Stopped)

The attach/detach route also fails with the same message. Although I create a SSIS proxy, the Copy Database Wzard shows only the SQLServerAgent as the proxy. Why?

Does copy database wizard use OLEDB for the transfer?
Does it mean you must have both Source and Destinaton with windows authentication?

How do I go around fixing this?

Visual Studio 2008 And SQL Server 2005 SSIS Packages

Mar 3, 2008

My home machine has sql 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 installed. I uninstalled VS 2005 (RTM) and installed VS 2008 (RTM) in its place. I then found that the SSIS templates were missing. Lesson: don't uninstall VS 2005 if you want to use SSIS 2005!

1. Is there any "workaround" to this issue?

2. (If the answer to 1 is "No") I will install VS 2008 side-by-side with VS 2005 on the same box. When the SSIS issue is finally resolved, can I uninstall VS 2005 without doing damage to the VS 2008 install?

Does the express edition 2005 in visual studio professional come with
advanced services or do you have install sp2?
Has anyone installed sql 2005 reporting services on vista ultimate
is there anything I should know besides the article How to install
sql reporting services on a windows vista computer? Thanks
I have sql express on my visual studio 2008, however I have
not installed it. Will this be a problem if I install standard ediion?

Trying To Configure Reporting Services SQL 2005 On Windows 2008 Server With IIS7

Apr 21, 2008

Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 server 64-bit SP1 and I have installed SQL 2005 SP2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit. My current version is 9.00.3042.00. I am trying to configure Reporting Services and I am having lots of trouble getting the Application Pools to work properly. I have followed the Microsoft Technet paper 839480 "How to Install and Configure Reporting Services on Windows Server 2008". In the "Configure Reporting Services" part, I have successfully configured everything (all arrows are green) and have the following setup:

Report Server Virtual dir: ReportServer Default Web Site
Report Manager Virtual dir: Reports Defualt Web Site
Windows Service Identity: ReportServer with a service acct login
Web Service Identity:
Report Server: ReportServer,
Report Manager: DefaultAppPool (I get an error when I try to configure it to anything else: ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800708AC at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

The one thing I notice in the SQL Server configuration manager is that there is a red dot next to the SQL Reporting Services services even though the green arrow is there to show it is running.

When I look in IIS7, I see the application pools Reports and ReportServer and they are both in Integrated mode. When I try to go to http://localhost/reportserver, it gives an error. It will work if I change both application pools to classic. But then when I try to go to http://localhost/reports, I get an error:

"REQUEST IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS CONTEXT".

I have read up on IIS7 and it says that:
"This error is due to a design change in the IIS7 Integrated pipeline that makes the request context unavailable in Application_Start event. When using the Classic mode (the only mode when running on previous versions of IIS), the request context used to be available, even though the Application_Start event has always been intended as a global and request-agnostic event in the application lifetime."

So, how do I configure these application pools to work using IIS7 with SQL 2005 Reporting Services on a Windows 2008 server? I have tried all kinds of different things based on what I am reading on the net and nothing is working. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Isabelle
