Validation Never Completes When TransactionOption Set To Required
Jun 7, 2007
I have a package that has three control flow items - an Execute SQL task, a Data Flow task and another Execute SQL task - linked in sequence by On Success constraints and contained by a Sequence container. I want any of the three contained tasks that fails to cause the Seuqence container to be rolled back and write a checkpoint.
I've configured the package to use Checkpoints, set the TransactionOption to Required and the FailPackageOnFailure to True ion the Sequence container and set the TransactionOption to Supported and the FailParentOnFailure to True on each of the three contained tasks.
When I attempt to run the package in debug mode, the first Execute SQL task executes fine but validation of the Data Flow task never finishes. If I switch the TransactionOption of the Sequence container to Supported instead of Required, the package executes fine.
I have had problems in the past where MSDTC was not running but that causes an error and I've checked that it's running and it is.
I set the transactionoption = required at package level. This package has a couple of dataflow taks and both the tasks are set transactionoption = supported. If one of them fails, both the tasks should be rolled back. When I run the package, it simply hangs at the first dataflow task with no error message. I had to stop debug to stop the execution of the package.
My system has DTC service enabled with Network DTC access enabled and the sql server is running on my local machine, which is windows xp box.
Any idea why this happens and the solution or workaround for this?
I was trying to maintain transactions between my tasks, so I set the TransactionOption property as Required to the Parent Container (For Each Loop Container). But I am getting the following error while executing my SSIS package.
"Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to start the distributed transaction due to error 0x8004D01B "The Transaction Manager is not available.". The DTC transaction failed to start. This could occur because the MSDTC Service is not running."
I checked in my Windows Services and did not find MSDTC. Pls let me know if you have any solution for this.
I want to use transactions to protect my tasks. I have ten tasks that need to be completed in a single package. If any of the tasks fail - I need the entire process to rollback.
I have 5 execute sql tasks to truncate groups of tables in my destination database.
After each of the single truncate tasks - I use data flow tasks to copy the data from the source to the destination db.
Both dbs are on the same server.
I am basically copying the entire db - with the exception of a few tables.
package.transactionOption = required , and all tasks transactionOptions are set to supported.
Several questions. It seems to hang on the first data flow task - the output window stops, etc.
If I set package.transactionOption = supported - The package will execute. If I create an error on the thrid truncate task - all previous tasks will complete - the package will fail on step 3 and the truncation for this step is not commited.
I am partially there. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I need the entire process to commit if all tasks are successful or rollback if any fail.
I can't find information on how you are suppose to handle the TransactionOption setting inside of a custom task.
I have a custom task that I have developed, and it basically calls a COM+ object that writes data to a database. When I have the task inside of a container that has the transactionoption set to required, and my custom task is set to supported, if one of the X items fail to execute in my custom task I am telling my task to fail the parent, which I thought would rollback everything. But it does not.
Is there someplace that I need to write rollback code in custom SSIS tasks? If there is I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Any examples out there on how to build custom SSIS tasks that support the TransactionOption parameter?
I have a package which consists of 3 Execute SQL Tasks -
1) Drop old database & Restore a new one 2) Run DDL 3) Run DML
My task was to put all of these in a transaction. I started using the "TransactionOption" property for this package to be "Required" and each child tasks also were set to the same transaction option property of "Required". However, after running the package, it errored out saying Task 1 cannot be in a transaction (which is logical) so, I removed the transaction required property from the first task and kept it on for the remaining 2 tasks. In addition, I have also set up a failover strategy, where in if these tasks were to fail, the package should restore the previous working copy of the backup. To test this scenario, I deliberately created an error in the DML task, so logically only this task should rollback, instead it rolls back the entire transaction and to my horror the failover step is not executed as well.
Is there something which I am not doing correctly?
I have a Package and a DataFlow Task. The Package has TransactionOption=Required. The DataFlow Task has an OLE DB Source and an OLE DB Destination. The DataFlow Task has TransactionOption=Supported. The package executes on a Workstation and DataSources for the OLE DB Source and the OLE DB Destination are on a Server.
After the package had been launched an error message showed:
[OLE DB Destination [43]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "DWH_Destination" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed. [DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Destination" (43) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C.
[Connection manager "DWH_Destination"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D024 "The transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". [Connection manager "DWH_Destination"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8004D024.
If I set TransactionOption=NotSupported in the DataFlow Task then the package executes successful.
I've got an issue where a join takes about 3 minutes to run on a development server (2 X 1.4 GHz/ 2GB / Win2K3SP1 / SQL2KSP4 (8.00.2187) standard) and does not finish (even after 10 Hours!) on a monster (8 X ? GHz/ 12GB / Win2K3SP1 / SQL2KSP4 (8.00.2187) clustered Enterprise) data center test machine.
This is a join between a table with 360K rows and another with 5.6 Mil rows. Identical data, schema, indexes, auto-stats, etc. between the two boxes. I see no CXPackets, so the parallel processing issue doesn't seem to apply.
I have an FTP task that once the file is loaded a script task is activated and then a data flow process starts. I can connect to the FTP server with the Test connection and I can see the file in the remote directory "/HRData.txt" however even with the Delay validation set to true it does not download the file.
I have an issue with Sql Server 2012 and Datastage which extracts the table(just select * from table) and loads into one file without any transformation in between. Source table has around 45million rows. Datastage Process extracts upto 22million rows and then it stalls forever(running state). I had investigated into the Database and i could see the transaction runs on database for some time(runnable and suspended state) for sometime and it disappears suddenly. I am surprised to see Datastage Process still shows rows are being extracted even after transaction is disappears and Datastage process up to 22million rows and then do nothing.
I hope to get some help with a stored procedure that never stops executing when run from Reporting Services development environment.
The server: SQL Server 2005 SP2 x86, 2 gig ram, 2 processor cores.
The stored procedure I execute is simple, it declares and sets some variables and then a executes a select statement with 6 joins. If I execute the stored procedure from Management Studio the query runs and returns about 50 000 rows in ~2 seconds. No problems!
The problems arises when I execute the stored procedure from visual studio (testing my reporting services report). The query will never complete its execution!?
I checked the activity monitor and can verify I have NO processses with any information in the blocked by or blocking column. The strange thing is I got 3 rows for process id 64, only one row (row 1) printing the executing user.
Row 1: Stutus suspenden, Wait Type CXPACKET Row 2 and 3 are pending between runnable and suspended and wait typoe pageiolatch_ex and no wait type at all when I refresh. These are probably parallell threads executed in the query.
The strange thing here is that this process never completes and if I do a trace the last command executed is select statement. I don´t understand what the problem is, sql server bug? Parellelism problem (in this case, why?)
Error 0x80070005 while loading package file "Package.dtsx". Access is denied. .
The package is executed from the main package via an 'Execute Package Task'. The strange thing is that the error comes after 'Package.dtsx' has run successfully. I am logging the PackageStart/PackageEnd and error events and I see that Package.dtsx ends successfully and then the "Access is denied" error occurs. The main package is launched by executing dtsexec via a SQL Server Agent Job. The packages have 'SaveCheckpoints' set to True. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
I was just debugging a stored procedure visual studio and I was surprised with what I was watching.
I'm running SQL 2005 and visual studio 2005. I have a set of nested try/catch blocks.
It fails on the first try and drops into the catch block just as it should. Within the catch block a dynamic sql statement is created. A try block begins and attempts to exec(@sql). It then drops to the catch block. However, I copy the statement into SQL Management Studio and it runs without error everytime.
Why is it dropping into the catch block? Logically it should just complete executing the statement continue without going into the catch block.
Do I have to reset the raiserror values between try blocks or something?
Greetings, I have setup a FormView which functions as it should but after the user input is updated, the table record stays unchanged, and when I trap the FormView1_ItemUpdated and look at the SqlDataSource1.UpdateCommand, it shows this: UPDATE [aspnet_test] SET first_name = '', last_name = '', email = '' WHERE id = @original_ID Here is most of the code I am using:<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="id, first_name, last_name" OnItemUpdating="FormView1_ItemUpdating" OnItemUpdated="FormView1_ItemUpdated" > .. // my ItemEditTempate is here.</asp:FormView> <EditItemTemplate>First Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("first_name") %>' runat="server" ID="author_name" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />Last Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("last_name") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox1" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />E-mail: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("email") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox2" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br /><br /><asp:Button ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" Text="Update" CommandName="Update" /><asp:Button ID="CancelButton" runat="server" Text="Cancel" CommandName="Cancel" /> </EditItemTemplate> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ASPNETDBConnectionString1 %>" SelectCommand="SELECT id, first_name, last_name, email FROM aspnet_test where id = 1"UpdateCommand="UPDATE [aspnet_test] SET first_name = '<%# first_name %>', last_name = '<%# last_name %>', email = '<%# email %>' WHERE id = @original_ID "> <UpdateParameters><asp:Parameter Name="original_ID" Type="Int32" /></UpdateParameters></asp:SqlDataSource> Any idea where the @original_ID is supposed to get its value from, or why does the SQL command shows blank fields?Thanks Eric.
I have a source table which I'm splitting 3 ways based on a column value, but the target is the same OLE DB destination table. One conditional path is to a Multi-Cast two way split to same OLE DB gestination table. The default split is to a flat file for logging unknown record types. For a test I have data for only the 3 column values I want, but I'm having trouble with the process completing. If I pre-filter the data going into the source table by one or two values I can get the process to complete even if one split is to the multicast. If I include all three data types in the source table, I get different results depending on the order in which the conditions are specified - sometimes only two split paths are executed; other times all three are executed, but in some cases only one path of the multicast split is executed. In any case, when the three source data types are used in the test, the process never competes - the pathes are in a yellow condition and never complete.
Am I creating some kind of deadlock situation by having the source data directed to the same target table via 4 splits? Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thanks.
Error 0x80070005 while loading package file "E:SSISPackagesPackage1.dtsx". Access is denied. .
The package is executed from the main package via an 'Execute Package Task' that is within a 'For Each Loop' container. The 'For each loop' goes through a single iteration as expected. The strange thing is that the error comes after 'Package1' has run successfully. I am logging the PackageStart/PackageEnd and error events and I see that Package1 ends successfully and then the "Access is denied" error occurs. The main package is launched by executing dtsexec via Process.Start() from a web page. The packages have 'SaveCheckpoints' set to True. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
We are using SSIS to load some 100k records from flat file to Oracle Destination. We are using Oracle 10g client. But during the execution after some 5hrs or 6hr with 900k records upload we are getting the message Package execution completed. In the Execution results there is no message related to success or failure and the tasks in the Data Flow where yellow in color. What might be the problem? Any information regarding this case will be helpful for us.
I have a cube that we are processing nightly via an Analysis Service Processing Task in SSIS. In order to increase the performance of the processing time, we elected to use a lot of rigid dimension attributes, and do a full process of everything in the SSIS task. The issue that I am having is that after that task completes, I need to go into Visual Studio to deploy the cube becuase we are unable to browse or use the cube. This issue seemed to start once we changed the SSIS Analysis Service Processing Task to do a full process on the dimensions, rather than an incremental.
I would expect that once development is done, and it is processed and deployed, that is it. My thinking is that the SSIS task should just update the already deployed cube,
Ive built an SSIS package which generates a file from a legacy system and then downloads the file into a designated folder on the server. I need the file watcher task to wait for a the file to completely finish loading before it says it is complete. Currently, as soon as the file is created, the WMI step finishes.
I am working on a query application, and I want to do syntax validation before I submit the dynamically sql to the database. The expression will include ANDs, ORs, IN, (,),>,<,etc. Anyone done this already? any code snippets?

Now to test errors comming back on the aueue i sed to make the xml tags wrong, then the target would send a error back on the queue with xml validation failed (both queues have validation well_formed_xml). However now in testing i cannot even send the message i get an invalid xml error straight away, i am not sure why this is , i know the xml is not valid but the send used to work and i would get an erro rback, as the xml is validated by the ttarget, but this no longer works it ails strainght away, with no thing in any queue. What could be causing this ?
I think I have read online a recommendation about not using XML VALIDATION in a production environment, due to performance reasons. Is it recommended using other that NONE validation in production, and is there available documentation for a scale that grades performance hits for various types of validations?
Afternoon all,I want my SQL SP to do some validation on a form submit to do the following before committing to the table. If email address (txt.Email.Text) doesn't exist in the table, commit values.if email address (txt.Email.Text) does exist and option (radOptions.SelectedValue) equals 1, print message to say 'you're already subscribed'if email address (txt.Email.Text) does exist and option (radOptions.SelectedValue) equals 0, print message to say 'you're not subscribed'if email address (txt.Email.Text) does exist and option (radOptions.SelectedValue) equals 1 or 0, update row to 0 or 1 (depending on subscribe or unsubscribe - 1 = subscribed, 0 = unsubscribed) The simple SP is currently:ALTER procedure [dbo].[sp_customerSignups]@name varchar(50),@email varchar (50),@subscribed intasBEGININSERT INTO tblCustomerSignups(Name, EmailAddress, Subscribed)VALUES(@name, @email, @subscribed)END Does anyone have the correct syntax for this? Thanks,Brett
When I create and query the XML file using LINQ, everything works just fine. I also get no compilation errors. But when I try to add the XML file to a database-field of type xml(CONTENT dbo.Common7), I get following error: XML Validation: Declaration not found for element 'http://www.mycompany.com/xsd/PageTemplate:template'. Location: /*:template[1] Any ideas? Thanks,Thomas
I have a table of contact details containing the usual name, adresss etc fields.
I want to validate the fields Country and telephone together so that fopr example if country = 'UNITED KINGDOM' the telephone has to begin with +44 if it doesnt i want it to add the +44!
I can do this through writing a little program but just wanted to explore the possibility of doing this with SQL or functions already available with MSSQL Server
I need to make sure that a string contains at least one number, at least one letter and has no repeating chars. Anyone done something similar? What's the best way to do it? Thanks.
Can anybody help me to write a procedure to validate a given string like 09461020(Y2K compliant date), I need to check wether this is a valida date or not?? 0946 = should convert to 1946 10 = month 20 is the date.
If it is 20461020.....then year = 2046, month = 10 and day = 20..and it is valid.
procedure should return validate date or not ...return TRUE OR FALSE.
Is there a way in TSQL to validate a string to ensure it has only numbers or letters (no special characters like @,%, etc)?
I want to write a function that validates a number that should only contain letters and numbers. The function should return 1 if valid 0 if not. If it contains anything other than 0-9 or A-Z or a-z then it should return 0.
Any ideas on how to do this in TSQL? I could do this in C# easily with regular expressions, but I don't want to use SQLCLR or any other external resource like that...just straight TSQL.
