I have a field in a db table which is like a chat history.I need to update the field with a user's input (put into a multiline text box) and append that to the beginning of the field. The problem is that I want to maintain line breaks when I retrieve the field into a multiline textbox (aka textarea) and can't figure it out.I've searched around and have seen lots of solutions for converting line breaks into <br> tags, but those people are trying to output to a label.I'm using an update command in my SqlDataSource like this: UpdateCommand="UPDATE [account] SET [history] = @history + history WHERE [id] = 1"With a parameter declaration like this: <UpdateParameters> <asp:ControlParameter Name="history" ControlID="TextBox1" PropertyName="Text" /> </UpdateParameters>If I try to concatenate in a or CHR(10), the characters are literally inserted. Like this for example (this is the last variation I tried).... UpdateCommand="UPDATE [account] SET [history] = @history + CHR(10) + history WHERE [id] = 1"How do I store a CrLf programatically?
I'm new to SQL Reporting Services but have made some decent headway. I'm stumped by one issue though: How do I repeat a field over and over on a single line?
To elaborate:
I have a table of backup job failures, with a reason and the time it failed. ID | Reason | Time 1 | No tape | 3/13/3008 2 | Bad drive | 3/14/2008
I'm trying to create a summary, and I want to list the information as follows:
There were 2 failed backup jobs on 3/13/2008, 3/14/2008
My SQL query is as follows: SELECT Time, COUNT(*) AS NumFailures FROM FailedBackups GROUP BY Time ORDER BY Time ASC
How do I "loop" the Time field on a single line in Reporting Services?
I have data saved in nvarchar field in SQL Server and I am displaying it using <= dbReader["my_field"] but even the three or four paragraphs comes as one paragragh and I don't know know where are my line breaks going?
I have to output as one filed name, mailing address, and phone of each company that we do business with. the out put must look as follows: Company Name Store number: ##### Street Address 1 Street Address 2 City, State Zip + 4 Phone: (###) ###-####
Each piece of data is a single field and will have to be concatenated into one. How do I force the line breaks where I need them?
Also each piece of data will be compared to a €œsource€? for validity and I will need to mare the individual data pieces red where €œwrong€?. Like so: VALID MY DATA Company Name Company Name Store number: ##### Store number: ##### Street Address 1 Street Address 1 Street Address 2 Street Address 2 City, State Zip + 4 City, State Zip + 4 Phone: (###) ###-#### Phone: (###) ###-####
Any ideas on how to do this? I have used IIF for conditional formating of field colors in the past, but my expierence is that it changes the WHOLE display field not just piece of data the IIF is wrapped around.
Which attributes or properties determine what is shown when you do click/drill into the details? I'm using the adventure works database as my guide and expected the (default,Identifying or Aggregate ) attributes to control it, can you summarize how the drill details are determined? My test from adventure works sample:
Pull Territory Name and #customers into the report Run it and drill into the details on one of the #customers It returns Acct#, CustType, CustName, #SalesOrders, Sum of a bunch of sales order fields and # customer addresses. The first three are the default attributes for a customer and the last sets look to be the default aggregates for the other relations to customer - Sales Order & Address.
Is it safe to say that it pulls in the default attributes of the immediate child and then aggregates of it's children? Does it go recursively?
Hi, I am sending a message to an invalid target name. The message eventually gets back to the initiator as an error type message. How can I determine the exact cause of the error - and determine that the target service name is invalid? I am using the ServiceBrokerInterface and the Message does not tell much - it seems. Also, in the sys.conversation_endpoints table, the record associated to the message only says 'Error', but no other indicator.
I'm using the sample on custom authentication from msdn but whenever I try to login I get this message. What URI are they complaining about? Has it anything to do with the custom cookie handling? I cant for the world understand whats wrong.
I am trying to write a user defined function that will allow me tostrip off the last carriage return and line feed from a text field. We have address fields stored in a text field for our ERP system andsome of them have an extra carriage return and line feed at the end ofthem. This causes havoc when we sync between our ERP system and CRMsystem. If anyone knows a way to solve this problem the help would beappreciated.Examples:Existing Text field with CR:1234 Blah Street<CR>Suite 2345<CR>Corrected Text field:1234 Blah Street<CR>Suitr 2345
A colleague and I have just found a slightly strange situation that we don't understand.
We had (effectively) the following query:
select cast(1 as decimal(38,10)) union all select cast(1 as decimal(38,4))
And the result contained 2 rows, each with a a scale of 4. This surprised us, we expected that the metadata of the result would be determined by the topmost query.
So we reversed them and tried this:
select cast(1 as decimal(38,4)) union all select cast(1 as decimal(38,10))
and got exactly the same result. 2 rows with a scale of 4.
We can't understand why the scale always gets determined to be 4 regardless of the order of the queries.
I've got a couple of questions linked to partitionating tables.
-What sort of criteria follows Database Engine when you have two NDF assigned to one filegroup and this filegroup is part of partition What's more: Could I force that Sql will use one by default?
I mean, my first partition encompass from 20020101 till 20030101. When I add data for example March or June, could I decide that these months belong to NDF1 rather than NDF2?
Hi folks,I'm trying to write a simple SELECT statement that will execute inquery analyser but will just have the data with no column names, or thedotted line between them and the data. I also want to avoid thestatement at the end which says nnn rows affected. any ideas? I want todo this because I intend to write the results to a flat file. Thanks for your helpDanny....
I am storing formatted data (including spaces and line breaks) in a single field in a table. When I run a report on that field, the preview of the report is automatically removing all the extra spaces and line breaks, making the report unreadable. When exporting the report to PDF or printing it, it shows the line breaks and spaces as expected.
Does anyone know how to make the report preview show the spaces and line breaks?
We have a single generic SSIS package that is used to import several hundred iSeries tables into SQL. I am not looking to rewrite the process. But I am looking for ways to improve performance.
I have tried retain same connection, maximum insert commit size, lock table (tablock), removed some large columns, played with the log file location and size, and now I am working to tweak the defaultbuffermaxrows.
To describe the data flow task - there are six data flows tasks (dft)  working at the same time. Each dtf has their own list of iSeries tables and columns and the corresponding generic SQL table names. Each dtf determines their list of tables based on the number of columns to import. So there is dft30 (iSeries table has 1-30 columns to import), dtf60 (iSeries table has 31-60 columns to import), etc. The destination SQL tables are generically called Staging30, Staging60, etc. Each column in the generic Staging tables are varchar(100). The dtfs are comprised of an OLE DB Source and an OLE DB Destination.
The OLE DB Source uses a SQL Command from Variable to build a SELECT statement. The OLE DB Source uses a connection manager that uses an IBM iAccess IBMDA400 provider. The SQL Command ends up looking like this for the dtf30. This specific example is importing from the iSeries table TDACLR and it only has two columns so it will be copied to the Staging30 table.
select TCREAS AS C1,TCDESC AS C2,0 AS C3,0 AS C4,0 AS C5,0 AS C6,0 AS C7,0 AS C8,0 AS C9,0 AS C10,0 AS C11,0 AS C12,0 AS C13,0 AS C14,0 AS C15,0 AS C16,0 AS C17,0 AS C18,0 AS C19,0 AS C20,0 AS C21,0 AS C22,0 AS C23,0 AS C24,0 AS C25,0 AS C26,0 AS C27,0 AS C28,0 AS C29,0 AS C30,''TDACLR'' AS T0 from Store01.TDACLR
The OLD DB Source variable value looks like the following, but I am not showing the full 30 columns
select cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C1,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C2,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C3,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C4,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C5, ... cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C30.
The OLE DB Destination uses OpenRowSet Using FastLoad From Variable. The insert into Staging30Â ends up looking like this.
Of course we then copy and transform the Staging30 data to the SQL table that equals T0.
But back to defaultbuffermaxrows. Previously the dtfs had default values of 10000 for DefaultBufferMaxRows and 10485760 for DefaultBufferSize. I added a SQL task to SUM the iSeries column sizes, TCREAS and TCDESC in this example, and set the DefaultBufferMaxRows by dividing the SUM of the columns max_length into 10485760. But I did not see a performance improvement. Do you think that redefining the columns as varchar(100) for the insert is significant? Should I possibly SUM the actual number of columns (2) as 2x100 or SUM the 30x100?
Hi, for some AP issue, the file I upload must be without the line feed/carriage return in the last line. for example:
original fixed-length file (exported from SSIS) line NO DATA 1 AA123456 50 60 2 BB123456 30 40 3 CC123456 80 90 4 <-- with line feed/carriage return in the last line
The file format that AP request. The file only has 3 records, so it should end in the third line. line NO DATA 1 AA123456 50 60 2 BB123456 30 40 3 CC123456 80 90
Should I use script component to do it ? I am new for VB . Anyone would help me ?
I need the Trend line for the following data in Line chart they are the following data. The following are the graph are my output and i need the trend line for these Key_gap value.
This is the link [URL] ....
I need the same trend line for the Bar-Chart in SSRS 2005.
I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum (forgive me if I'm not) since I'm not sure if this is an issue with inserting an item into a db or the processing of what I get out of it. I wrote a basic commenting system in which someone my post a comment about something written on the site. I wanted to keep it very simple, but I at least want the ability for a user to have newlines in their comment without having to hardcode a <br /> or something like that. Is there a way for me to detect a newline if someone, for example, is going to their next paragraph? Let me know if you need a better explanation. Thanks in advance!
G'day everyoneThat's a space between the ticks. It's all part of a longer script but seeing as the failure occurs online 1if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id =object_id(N'[dbo].[config]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') =1)drop table [dbo].[config]GOThat's three lines only. Does it matter that they're in Unicode?Any ideas?Kind regards,Bruce M. AxtensSoftware EngineerStrapper Technologies
We have a line graph which plots the actual data points (x,y), everything is working fine with this graph. Now we need to add a trend line to this existing graph after going thro. the articles we came to know that there is no direct option in SSRS to draw a trend line. So we need to calculate the trend values ourselves which we need to plot as atrend line. This trend line is similar to the trend line which comes in Excel chart, do anyone know how to calculate the trend values from the actual data points. We got through several formulas, but were not clear, have anyone tried out exactly the same, if so please help us out by providing an example to calculate the trend values.
I have a line graph which shows positive and negative values. Is it possible to have the line one color when its negative and another when its positive?
Hi If i use this code i cant get the data showed, it show nothing."SELECT COUNT(DogImageDate) AS Amount, DogImageDate, DogImageID FROM EnggaardImages WHERE DogImageDate NOT LIKE (SELECT TOP 1 DogImageDate FROM EnggaardImages ORDER BY DogImageDate DESC;) GROUP BY DogImageDate ORDER BY DogImageDate DESC;" But if i use this code i get data showed"SELECT COUNT(DogImageDate) AS Amount, DogImageDate, DogImageID FROM EnggaardImages GROUP BY DogImageDate ORDER BY DogImageDate DESC;" Then i get Images(6)Images(1)Images(1) But i dont want the first to be showed, therefor i use the Select TOP 1, so i get a look like this Images(1)Images(1) But i cant get it to work.
Hello all Trying to delete some data from a SSCE (2005) DB produces the exception: SqlCeException There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 43,Token in error = C] Here is the code I am using
I'm trying to insert some values into an SQL Compact database on a WM6 device but there is something apparently wrong with my SQL statement...
The program is going to allow users to schedule an SMS message to be sent at a certain date and time. I'm using a database to keep track of the scheduled SMS messages. The database has 3 rows: phone number, message, and the date/time to be sent.
I'm guessing it doesn't like how I am trying to get the data from the different text boxes and the DateTimePicker to go inside the SQL command. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix my SQL command or how to get data from a textbox and DateTimePicker to be inserted into a database a different way?
I'm using DTS to import data from an Access memo field into a SQL Server ntext field. DTS is only importing the first 255 characters of the memo field and truncating the rest.I'd appreciate any insights into what may be causing this problem, and what I can do about it.Thanks in advance for any help!
I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.
I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits. The mfg_start_date is delcared as a string variable
option 1 I will have to declare the mfg_start_date as date but I need to send in a blank value for this variable in the stored procedure. It won't accept a null or blank value.
