Verifying MergeSynchronizationAgent No Longer Requires STA Threading Model

Dec 22, 2006

I've seen a few posts in the MSDN documentation (see links below) stating that the MergeSynchronizationAgent no longer requires the STA threading model in SQL Server 2005 SP1. However, I'm still receiving the following exception message in my synchronization code (where it attempts to access the SynchronizationAgent property):

The MergeSynchronizationAgent class must be instantiated on a Single-Threaded Apartment (STA) thread.

I have Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2005 installed on both my server as well as my local client (the client is running SQL Server 2005 Express). How can I verify the correct files are there (e.g. are the some specific date/time values for the RMO/COM objects?

Here's the list of MSDN links mentioned above:

MergeSynchronizationAgent Is Missing

Jun 29, 2007

I'm trying to perform merge replication synchronization via RMO programming as shown in the following topic on MSDN:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms147890.aspx

But this piece of code raises an error message telling there is no such property inside the subscription object

Code Snippet // Synchronously start the Merge Agent for the subscription.
subscription.SynchronizationAgent.Synchronize();

The "SynchronizationAgent" property is of type "MergeSynchronizationAgent" as the books online says but there is no such type in the namespase "Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication".

I'm using microsoft sql server 2005 sp2 and .net framwork 2.0 and I properly added the refrence to Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication

MergeSynchronizationAgent Status Event

Dec 27, 2005

Hi,

I am attempting to use the MergeSynchronizationAgent Status event to display the current status of the synchronization in a dialog. It seems that the StatusEventArg properties returned to the StatusEventHandler from the MergeSynchronizationAgent don't match the acutal progress - for intance, the PercentComplete always stays at 0 and the MessageStatus never is "Succeed" for a successful web sync, so it is impossible to tell if the synchronization is complete or not. Is there another way to check the current status of a synchronization in code? I am developing in C#, using RMO for SQLExpress 2005.

Thanks,

Why Does It Take Longer And Longer For The Same Code To Run

Feb 22, 2008

Why does it take longer and longer for the same code to run very simply I have 8,0000,000 records I want to delete from a table . I have tried a few options

Option 1 a while loop which deletes 10,000 rows per loop starting from the earliest until it hits the cut of number I have set. THIS TOOK 5 HOURS

Option 2 created an SP which found the oldest 100,000 records then deleted them. If I run this SP manually it takes 30 €“ 60 secs. Which I thought was much better than above. So I put this SP in a while loop to run 80 odd times thinking the time it would take would be 80 mins a huge improvement.

But every time this SP is called it takes longer and longer (36,30,32,39,37,37,123,163,155,182€¦and so on(In seconds)).

All the sp is doing is as follows(8860000 is just to insure I don€™t delete to much). this sp is then called from in a while loop.

set @recnumber = (select top 1 recnumber from
(select top 100000 recnumber from TabletodeleteFROM where recnumber < 8860000
order by recnumber asc ) TabletodeleteFROM
order recnumber desc)

delete TabletodeleteFROM where recnumber < @recnumber

please help why is it taking longer and longer

Threading

Jun 3, 2002

I have some threading questions, please explain how these work. Thanks!!

How do the threads get created (programmatically, network, or through sequel)?

If I have 10 people in an application, is a thread created for each user?

If I run a large process can I subdivide the process and run it through mulitple threads?

Hyper Threading - Good Or Bad?

Sep 29, 2005

Ello,

We have quite a few SQL Servers running on servers with hyper threaded enabled processors. We have always left hyper threading on, even on our very busy servers but i've recently begun to question this due to comments i have received.

All our servers run SQL 2000 SP3a as "support" for hyper threading was added in SP3a

So... What do you think of Hyper Threading any why?

Double Threading A Procedure?

Aug 9, 2006

Over some time now, I've been developing a fairly hefty stored procedure, that does a lot of computations, and fairly few table lookups.

When I look at the performance on my server (a dual Xeon HT) I can see that it only uses 1 out of 4 possible "cpus" to work on the calculations, while the three others idle out, and was wondering if I can somehow force it to use max available CPU power?

SSIS Multi-threading

Aug 23, 2006

I have a vb 2005 app that executes a SSIS package in threads.
The SSIS package imports a large (20mb) file, does many alternation to it, exports it to the database.
The SSIS execution is quite frequent and there for multi-threading is needed.

Here is the issue:
If i take out the threading everything works great. The second that i add threading, and try to execute a few instances of the SSIS it starts crashing. The thing is that it errors out in different task and is completely unpredictable.

My question:
1) Can SSIS be used in a multi-threading environment?
2) If yes, How do i do it?
3) Does anyone have any suggestion as to what i should try?

p.s. Timing is definitely an issue for me.  I got to get this working, tested, approved by 8/27/2006
---------
here are the 3 errors that i'm getting when i turn multi-threading on
1)Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0202009.

2)An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Transaction (Process ID 112) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".

3)The ProcessInput method on component "(i cannot display the name of the task for security reasons" (448) failed with error code 0xC0202009. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.

Multi Threading Exception

Jun 22, 2006

Apologies if this is not the right forum.

We have some c~ code which calls a stored proc to trnsfer data from one db to another.

We are using multi threading to allow a whole days data to be processed in parrallel.

However, we are experiencing problems. After a while we get the following message:

"An exception during changed data captured caused all processing threads to abort".

Can anyone tell me what posssible reasons would cause this to happen?

It is not an area in which I have a lot of expertise, the code was written by a third party.

Many thanks

SQL Server Multi-threading

Nov 8, 2007

We're moving in a 4-socket (Xeon Dual Core CPU's) server. What version and product of SQL Server should I be looking for to fully take advantage of the new server's 4 processors. I'm not sure I understand the licensing per CPU. Is there any advantage in waiting for SQL Server 2008 as it concerns multi-threading and what should I be looking to spend for a SQL server solution that utilizes all four processors. Someone has told me that the SQL Server standard edition comes with 4 cpu licenses. Is this correct?

Thanks, Rob Huylo

Multi-threading And SSIS Package

Apr 11, 2008

I have an SSIS package that is running the same set of stored procedures on about 50 remote database servers and importing the data through data flow tasks into a local database.

To do this I have a db table set up with the remote server and db names and using variables, i am looping through each one and getting the data. Everything works wonderfully...however, I need to find a way to be able to run multiple calls at the same time. Is it possible to multithread SSIS so that I can run 1 server retrieval on 1 thread and another retrieval on another thread? Any other suggestions on how to optimally do this?

Dts.Variables Collection, Threading, And Contention

Apr 29, 2008

All,

We are experiencing some problems when running the same package on multiple threads of a C# application concurrently. The package instances seem to share a Dts.Variables collection.

I have created a test application and package to reproduce the issue. The package is very simple. It has two variables - Instance (Int32) and Content (string). The test application runs two concurrent threads that run through 25 iterations running the package. Each thread loads the package, sets the instance, and then runs the package. The package then takes the instance, sticks it in the Content variable and then writes it to a file called "FileX" where X is the Instance. Thread 1 sets the instance from 1 to 25, thread 2 sets it from 26 to 50. The test execution results in about 15% of the files containing the incorrect "instance content". That is, I'll see "42" in the file named "File14", or something along those lines. This tells me that the variables are being overwritten.

I ran another test where I created a copy of the package, so the code is identical, but the VersionGUID is different. Running the thread test application always succeeds. There is no file name/content mismatch. I then ran another test where I manually edit the XML of the package to change the VersionGUID before the package is loaded (by calling LoadFromXml). Again this never fails.

Changing the VersionGUID may work for us, but it is a total hack. Has anyone else experienced this or have any other solutions? Any thoughts on manually updating the VersionGUID to get around this problem? I hate doing this, but we are getting desperate.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Programatically Verifying SQL Syntax

Nov 24, 2004

OK, so I'm working on a project that requires the dynamic generation of SQL statements. Now in Visual Studio .NET I'm sure many of you have used that wonderful visual database tool that allows you to magically "verify sql syntax" at the click of a button. It takes a query that looks like this:

"SELECT A.AFFID, A.UserName, A.Pass, A.FirstName, A.LastName, A.Company, A.Street, A.City, A.State, A.ZIP, A.Country, A.phone, P.EMail, A.RecieveEMail, A.SSN, A.JoinDate, A.AffType, P.ProductId, P.BuyerId FROM Affiliates A, Purchases P WHERE (ProductId > 0) ORDER BY 1"

and transforms it into something that looks like this:

"SELECT A.AFFID, A.UserName, A.Pass, A.FirstName, A.LastName, A.Company, A.Street, A.City, A.State, A.ZIP, A.Country, A.phone, P.Email, A.RecieveEMail, A.SSN, A.JoinDate, A.AffType, P.ProductID, P.BuyerID
FROM Affiliates A CROSS JOIN Purchases P
WHERE (P.ProductID > 0)
ORDER BY A.AFFID"

My question is: is there anything in the .NET platform that would allow me to achieve the same kind of result programatically (i.e. transform standard sql to tsql syntax and verify the syntax of the query at run time)?

Any help would be appreciated! Cheers.

Need Help In Verifying User Login

Feb 19, 2005

To: All,

Hi, well thanks for reading this thread. Anyway I got a problem where i can't accurately verify whether a user had successfully login to my application.

I got a database to store the user name and password. So whenever a user login, i would use a while loop to read all the user name and password, and an if statement to verify whether the user's name and password matches to the ones stored in the database. This method doesn't work when there are multiple records in my database, because the if statement would compare the user given name and password with all the user name and password in the database. Hence resulting a mismatch.

Well I really hope that you understand what my problem is, really need help with this problem as I'm really clueless. Can somebody please help me, please teach me how to rectify this problem?

Well i think the core problem would be to compare the user name and password with the records in the database one at a time, and once it is found, stop comparing and allow user to enter site.

Yup I think that's all, sorry for the lengthy thread. Anyway thanks a million and have a nice day.

Transact SQL :: Executing Stored Procedures And Threading

Jul 10, 2015

If I have several stored procedures, all of them making inserts/updates to the same tables, what is the safest way to run them in sequence?

The context is an asp.net application; I have an aspx page where a click on a button (or more) will launch stored procedures in execution. I have encountered the unfortunate situation before, when stored proc #2 started long before stored proc #1 finished and this caused problems.

If I group all stroed procs in one that simply calls all of them in the needed sequence:

exec stproc1
exec stproc2
.....
exec stprocn

Will they execute in a single thread? Is there any guarantee that stproc2 will be executed when stproc1 finishes, and so on?

Stored Procedure For Verifying Data Existence

Jun 26, 2006

Hello All,
I'm trying to develop a stored procedure that would do one of TWO things:
1.  Return a 'status' that a value does not exist, if I were to provide the parameter via an ASP.NET2.0 page
2.  If it does exists, to return the row data associated with that value (id number)
The stored procedure would search a SQL Server table within it self first.  It that fails it would look at an Oracle table (work order table).  And if that fails to return a 'row' to look through another Oracle table (work request table).  If that doesn't occur, then it would throw the result as described in #2.
If the result exists in one of the TWO Oracle tables it would then insert that row into the first SQL Server table that the stored procedure searched through AND would return the row set to the ASP.NET page.
While all this is happening, I was hoping to get some insight as to how to create a "Please Wait..." feedback and then moving to the final result.
Looking forward to the wise words of the many on this forum, as I have experienced in the past!  :)

Verifying A Table's Column Count Across Servers?

Jan 31, 2005

Hi folks!

The boss has decided that the data from a table we have on one database (containing daily data) needs to be copied to a "history" table on a different database, on a different server.

The transfer will probably be done with a scheduled stored procedure, and all columns will be transferred EXCEPT for two columns in the source table, which are not present in the destination table. This means instead of an "INSERT Dest SELECT * FROM Source" I have to do an "INSERT Dest SELECT yada,yada,yada... FROM Source" in order to disregard the columns we don't care about. NO problem.

I was thinking (you should smell trouble - and sawdust burning at this point) that this leaves us open to a punch below the belt later when a new column is added to the Source table, since we are using a definitive list of columns to move rather than a *, and the new column could be added without the otherwise system-generated, *-sponsored "gentle reminder" that it also needs to be added to the Dest table. I'm not as convinced as The Boss that "Oh, I'm sure we'll remember to add it to the history table when that happens"

So, long story shorter (nah...too late for that) - I figure I can write a check at each day's historical transfer on the count of columns in one table verses the other, and send an email or fail the job if the count doesn't make sense.

For example, if the Source table has 34 columns, since we don't care about two of them, the Dest table should have 32 columns, if things are still in synch. OK, I think (insert burning sawdust smell here), I can use a SysObjects thang to count rows. BOL points out INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS as a possibility.

Here is the code I think (sawdust) can be used:select ((select count(*) from SourceDb.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns
where table_name = 'Source') - (select count(*) from HISTSERVER.DestDb.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns
where table_name = 'Dest')) as ColumnDiff

Trouble is...this fails because apparently the INFORMATION_SCHEMA thang doesn't do well with remote servers.

Can anyone figure a way around this, or suggest an alternative? I'm still looking, but thought I'd also toss it out onto the board for your generous consideration.

Thanks - and can you BELIEVE the year is already 1/12th of the way OVER?!?!?!

Verifying Column Definitions Across Tables And Views

Aug 22, 2015

Let me explain in simplified terms. We have an ETL process:

1) download data from the iSeries table Cust into SQL table Cust.
2) Tran_Cust is a view created FROM Cust
3) Copy from view Tran_Cust to table ods_Cust
4) v_ods_Cust is a view created from ods_Cust

I want to look for inconsistencies in the column definitions as a column moves from iSeries Cust, SQL Cust, view Tran_Cust, ods_Cust, view v_ods_Cust. The columns generally keep the same names except for v_ods_cust. Here a column like CustName will be created with a more meaningful column name - "CustName as 'Customer Name'.

We have hundreds of tables and we have column definition inconsistences where the host changed their column defintion and we made no changes on the SQL side. Or someone made a SQL column change in one table, but not both tables and the views were not dropped and recreated.

I have the list of tables. Think that I can put together some tsql to loop through the list of tables and create a new table based on the iSeries definition, then compare columns defintion across all the tables and views - except for the v_ods. THis is where columns are given new names - such as "CustName as 'Customer Name'". Need the actual view definition to find that CustName is 'Customer Name' and then compare the definition of ods_Cust.CustName to v_ods_Cust.[Customer Name]

How can I find the view definiton of say v_ods_Cust, seperate out the source column names (CustName) and destination column names (Customer Name) so that I can compare the source column names to another table and fine the differences?
