View Button For Step Output Logs Greyed Out

Jun 12, 2008

Hi.

My company has upgraded some of the database systems to SQL 2005 while other have a fresh install.

The problem we're seeing is that the view button located in the Advanced section of the steps in the Job properties windows is greyed out. The path is valid as we can copy the path and paste it at the run command and view the log.

Does anyone know how this problem can be resolved? If we select to log the results to a table; we have access to the corresponding view button but not the one for the file system logging.

We rely heavily on this feature since we used it often under SQL 2K. Can anyone provide any helpful details to resolve this or has anyone seen this problem before???

Any helpful replies would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

SSIS Package Step Errors And Logs From SQL Job Agent?

Mar 28, 2007

I've deployed an ssis package to the database server through the manifest file over the network..

The package runs great when testing through vs.net on my client.

I've added the package to a job step in the sql server job agent.

When I test the new job, the package step fails, but there is no error or log information in the job history.

Wwhere can I get error information? And/or How can make SSIS error information more verbose in the job history?

Thanks for any help or information.

Identity Increment = Greyed Out (actually, All Properties Are Greyed Out)

Oct 2, 2006

I am looking to make the primary key auto increment by 1.  I have found by looking around the internet that you need to do this in the Tables -> [Table Name] -> Columns -> [Column Name], Properties window, and I see the "Identity Increment" however all of the properties there are greyed out -- I can't access them. Any ideas on how to make this work? For some background: I'm running SQL Server 2005 with Visual Studio 2005.  To create this database, I right-clicked on my project, and went to 'Add SQL Database', I filled in the columns all from within visual studio.

Scheduled Job Step Output To Job History

Jul 25, 2006

Hi

I've been looking at kb 918760. In this, it says

"You can also use the Include Step Output in the history option to redirect the logging information to a file or to the SQL Server Agent Job History."

Now I'd really like to do this, but can't see this option anywhere nor can I find any reference to it in the help.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Set View Report Button So It Does Not Go Off Screen

Feb 27, 2008

The "View Report" button is relatively positioned so when the report content is wider than the screen size, it pushes it to the right such that the users have to scrool right to click on it again. Is there a way of setting the "View Report" button to a fixed position to eliminate this?

ReportViewer (WinFprms) View Reoprt Button

Feb 8, 2007

I'm using the ReportViewer winforms control. It works great except for one annoying issue. The "View report" button shown to the right of the parameters for the report is rendered too far to the right. So when my application is running in 1024*768, the button is rendered outside the visible area.

It doesn't seem to make any difference if I have one or several parameters, the problem remains.

Is there any way of controlling the renderingposition of that button?

Able To Step Into Stored Proc Through IDE. Now Is Their A Way To View The Queries?

Feb 29, 2008

I am able to step into a sql stored proc through the VS IDE. I am able to look at some values in the quick watch window. But I need to examine the results of certain queries. Like a select statement that gets placed into a temp table. How can I view the results of the query? If their is not an elegant way of doing this in the debugger, then should I put sql statements in the stored proc, that would display the results of the query?(Assuming I would remove them after debugging)
If the answer is yes, then maybe someone can give me some ideas. Like how would I print to the screen the results of the query, or be able to view the results of the query? My sql skills are a bit weak, so I would appreciate any help I can get.

Cannot View Server Logs

Jun 12, 2007

I have SQL Server 2005 Express on a Windows XP SP2 machine. Everything works fine and I have several dbs running. How ever I was wanting to optimize some programs and needed to watch the server and see what it is processing. I log into SQL Management Studio Express and when I go to Management->Server Logs I see the logs and the Activity Monitor. If I right click on the log all I see is Refresh. If I doule click nothing happens. I can view the Activity Monitor and the processes going.

I am sure it is a permission thing or something along those lines. I can not for the life of me figure it and have spent a couple days on google and these forums. I have tried with the SA, my defined users, and the local windows administrator. Is log viewing not allowed in SQL Server Express?

Thanks!

Michael

Reporting Services 2005 - View Report Button Clears Select All Parameter Choices

Jan 3, 2008

Has anyone encounted a problem with Reporting Services (2005) with the following scenario:
A report with a dropdown parameter allowing a Select All choice -

If the selection list is fairly long and Select All is selected - if the user clicks the View Report button the selection list is completely reset (i.e. all items are unselected). This seems to happen if the user quickly clicks the View Report button immediately after clicking the Select All box on the parameter dropdown.

This happens inconsistently - some users experience it frequently while others do not see it at all (using the same parameter values, etc.)

Double Click On The View Report Button To Get The Report To Render.

Jul 26, 2007

I've got a SQL Reporting Server 2000 SP2 report that takes 3 parameters. FromDT, ToDT, and LocationCD. The first two parameters are free form text fields that expect a date. The last one is a drop down box. For some reason, when I'm viewing the report through the standard reports folder on the report server I have to click the "View Report" button two times to get the report to render. Clicking it just once, doesn't seem to do anything. The report is a line graph.

There are default values in the FromDT and ToDT parameter fields.

Anyone have any ideas what would be causing the need for the second click?

Execute Package Results Different To Step By Step Execution - Uses Raw File

Jan 31, 2007

I have a package that has multiple data flow tasks. At the end of a task, key data is written into a raw file (file name stored in a variable) that is used as a data source for the next task. Each task requires a success from the preceding task.

Here's the rub:

If I execute the entire package, the results of the package (number of records of certain tasks) differs significantly from when I execute each step in the package in turn (many more records e.g. 5 vs 350).

I get the feeling that the Raw file is read into memory before it is flushed by the previous task, or that the next task begins preparation tasks too early.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am running on Server 2003 64 (although the same thing happens when deployed on a Server 2003 32 machine)

Thanks

Step-by-step Deployment Of Single-user Database App?

Mar 2, 2008

Hi!

I hope the answer is as simple as the question -- but after reading all the documentation I could find (understand?) and a lot of posts here, I'm no closer to achieving the goal.

I have a Visual C# app, DAYTRACKER, developed in VS2005. It uses a database with several tables constructed using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.

I want to deploy the app plus the database plus SQL Express to another machine, to be used by a single user (the administrator) with no need for network connectivity of any kind.

What I have so far is:
1. The application is successfully deployed from a CD-ROM, having used the Publish process within VS2005, and opens on the new machine -- without database connectivity, however.
2. SQL Express is successfully deployed (it deployed as a 'prerequisite' when I went through the Publish process in VS2005)
3. I manually copied the database's .mdf and .mdl files, using SQL Server Managers 'Copy Database' function, then transferred the copies to the new machine into the ..MSSQL.1MSSQLdata folder (where they appear along with the master.mdg, mastlog.ldf etc files)

Now, the DAYTRACKER application's DAYTRACKERConnectionString under 'Settings' in the VS2005 studio reads 'Data Source=DELL3;Initial Catalog=DayTracker;Integrated Security=True' (which are the appropriate parameters for the machine, DELL3, on which I wrote the program.)

The problem, of course, is that SQL Express on the new machine doesn't connect the application to the database. When I go to the 'SQL Server Configuration Manager' and go to the 'SQL Server 2005 Services' and double-click on the 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)' icon (the service is running) and the user is logged on using 'Local System Account'. Under the 'Service' tab the Host Name is 'MUSIC' (which is the name of the new machine I've installed the app onto -- which of course is not the name - DELL3 - that the app's connection string is expecting). Under the 'Advanced' tab, I've tried correcting the name of the Startup Parameters default .mdf and .mdl entries to ..DayTracker.mdf and ..DayTracker_log.mdl, but the server won't start up after I make the changes.

What I'm hoping for: a step-by-step way of doing this type of deployment, preferable getting it all onto one CD-ROM, and installing it on the new machine so that it all works seamlessly from the start, not requiring any 'tweaking' of the SQLServer Express settings by the end-user.

But I'll take pretty much anything that fixes the specific db connectivity problem I've described.

Thank you very much.

John F.

How To Read An Database Table Step By Step (with ADO)

May 19, 2008

Hi,
I have to transport a big database table and can't read it at once with "select * from table" because the table is bigger than my system memory.
Is there a way to read the table step by step? I thought it was possible with ADO and his serverside cursors but I don't now how. I need an "universal" solution that works on SQL Server 2000/2005, MySQL and Oracle.

Enabling T-SQL Debugger (SQL2000) - Step Into, Step Over Etc

Dec 5, 2007

Connecting to a networked SQL Server Box from my local machine

Open Query Analyzer from Start menu, logging in using sa account.

from the object browser i select my stored procedure (WEA_InsertClaim) - right click and select Debug.

i am prompted to enter the parameter values, which i do, auto rollback checkbox is checked - click Execute.

T-SQL Debugger opens and runs through the stored procedure.

but only buttons enabled are the "Go", "Toggle Breakpoint", "Clear All Breakpoints"

so i can set breakpoints etc. but when i select Go it will not stop at the breakpoints it just runs through the stored procedure from start to finish. giving the correct return code as its output

is there something i need to enable in order to make it stop at breakpoints??

However, the button is there so I would think that I am just doing something wrong.

View That Would Output Data From Two Views

Aug 8, 2007

OK,

I have two data tables where depending on the time line item it is, it needs a different join.

So, it's like this:

Table Credit Card
Table Memo

If Credit Card is VISA, join on column A
If Credit Card is MA, join on column B

So, I created two views. One view has all the info joined on column A. The other view has all the info joined on column B.

How do I create a third view that will output all the data from View A and View B without making it into a cartesian product?

I can't change the table structure due to legacy application/data issues.

Thanks!
