Analysis :: Grand Totals Not Adding Up In Power View On Molap Cubes?

Nov 12, 2015

My Power view reports do not show the grand totals correctly.  I think my issue relates perfectly to [URL]. However we have updated service pack 2 on both the sql data warehouse and the ssas box.  They are 2012.  However the power view is still incorrect.  Pivot tables seem to work just fine.  In AS I have a 2 separate measure groups that has a total count.  I then use mdx to bring those two together.  Something I have done many times in past with as 2008.  My mdx looks like this below.  I then hide Total Count EC (from measure group 1) and Total Count SF (from measure group 2). This way I have 1 total count value and they can use another dimension to see the two separate if needed.

CREATE
MEMBERCURRENTCUBE.MEASURES.[Total
Count New] AS
//
([Measures].[Total Count] + [Measures].[Total Count SF]),
DISPLAY_FOLDER
=
'Totals',
ASSOCIATED_MEASURE_GROUP=
'Report',
FORMAT_STRING
=
"#,#0",
VISIBLE=
1;

The measure Total Count EC works just fine but the Total Count (MDX) does not .  All in Power Pivot works fine but in Power View the grand totals are not correct.

Create View, Varied Results Depending On Row Size

Mar 11, 2004

This is the same issue as deinfed in http://www.dbforums.com/t987543.html

I've done some additional testing and got it down to the below

SQL2000 DB
Linked Server to DB2 using client access odbc, and MS OLE DB for ODBC

Varied results depending on the row size of the views.

See the below examples.

CREATE VIEW BLHDR_TEST
AS
SELECT STNST
FROM LURCH_PARADB.S102D4LM.PARADB.BLHDR

STNST CHAR(25)

TOTAL ROW WIDTH (25)

SELECT * FROM BLHDR_TEST

Returns 20971 rows * 25 = 524,725

CREATE VIEW BLHDR_TEST
AS
SELECT STNSHTNAM, STNST
FROM LURCH_PARADB.S102D4LM.PARADB.BLHDR

STNSHTNAM CHAR(12)
STNST CHAR(25)

TOTAL ROW WIDTH (37)

SELECT * FROM BLHDR_TEST

Returns 14169 rows * 37 = 524,253

CREATE VIEW BLHDR_TEST
AS
SELECT STNADD1, STNSHTNAM, STNST
FROM LURCH_PARADB.S102D4LM.PARADB.BLHDR

STNADD1 CHAR(40)
STNSHTNAM CHAR(12)
STNST CHAR(25)

TOTAL ROW WIDTH (77)

SELECT * FROM BLHDR_TEST

Returns 6808 rows * 77 = 524,216

CREATE VIEW BLHDR_TEST
AS
SELECT STNCTY,STNADD1, STNSHTNAM, STNST
FROM LURCH_PARADB.S102D4LM.PARADB.BLHDR

STNCTY CHAR(25)
STNADD1 CHAR(40)
STNSHTNAM CHAR(12)
STNST CHAR(25)

TOTAL ROW WIDTH (102)

SELECT * FROM BLHDR_TEST

Returns 5140 rows * 102 = 524,280

Test #1 Returns 20971 rows * 25 = 524,725
Test #2 Returns 14169 rows * 37 = 524,253
Test #3 Returns 6808 rows * 77 = 524,216
Test #4 Returns 5140 rows * 102 = 524,280

With the similarity of the total byte count returned, I would assume that a buffer or something is being overrun, is this a configuration parameter possibly.

If I perform the select against the linked table as such

Select * (for fields list)
From LURCH_PARADB.S102D4LM.PARADB.BLHDR

I get all rows returned. The issue only exist when accessing the views that are created against the linked server.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Table Size And Database Size

Mar 2, 2008

Hi,
i use this script that show me the size of each table and do the sum of all the table size.

SELECT
X.[name],
REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[rows]), 1), '.00', '') AS [rows],
REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[reserved]), 1), '.00', '') AS [reserved],
REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[data]), 1), '.00', '') AS [data],
REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[index_size]), 1), '.00', '') AS [index_size],
REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[unused]), 1), '.00', '') AS [unused]
FROM
(SELECT
CAST(object_name(id) AS varchar(50)) AS [name],
SUM(CASE WHEN indid < 2 THEN CONVERT(bigint, [rows]) END) AS [rows],
SUM(CONVERT(bigint, reserved)) * 8 AS reserved,
SUM(CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS data,
SUM(CONVERT(bigint, used) - CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS index_size,
SUM(CONVERT(bigint, reserved) - CONVERT(bigint, used)) * 8 AS unused
FROM sysindexes WITH (NOLOCK)
WHERE sysindexes.indid IN (0, 1, 255)
AND sysindexes.id > 100
AND object_name(sysindexes.id) <> 'dtproperties'
GROUP BY sysindexes.id WITH ROLLUP) AS X
ORDER BY X.[name]

the problem is that the sum of all tables is not the same size when i make a full database backup.
example of this is when i run this query against my database i see a sum of 111,899 KB that they are 111MB,but when
i do full backup to that database the size of this full backup is 1.5GB,why is that and where this size come from?

Database File Is Larger Than The Configured Max Database Size.

Feb 18, 2008

Hello,

I am developing a smart device application with Visual Studio .Net 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition database. And also using merge replication to synchronize the data from the mobile device to the SQL Server.

My database size is around 350MB. So when I am trying to synchronize this is the error message that I get.
" The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. The setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only.[Required Max Database size ( in MB; 0 if unknown)=129].

I tried changing the Max database size in the connection string and my connection string looks as follows and still did not have any luck.

connstr= "Data Source=Storage CardItems.sdf;Max Database Size=500;"

Any help regarding this would be appreciated.

Thank you
.

Database Stored Procedures Not Showing Up In Database View

Jan 31, 2008

Hi I have an application that I have started to develop.  I have successfully set the connection to open the SQL Server database that I created.  When I first started on the program, I was able to create Table Adapters by dragging the tables or stored procedures onto the DataSet work surface and going through the configuration process.  At one point, however, I stopped being able to see any of my stored procedures in the database view although they are there because when I go to create a new table adapter, I am able to right click and add the new adapter and find the stored procedure in the wizard. Is there any way I can reset this so that my stored procedures are visible again.  I have tried refreshing to no avail - and I think this is creating problems in other parts of the application.Any help appreciate.Roger

Database Size

Mar 1, 2002

We have a SQL server database most time for read only because the data source comes from another database( which is not SQL server database, now it is about 2G). Every day we have a job running as following:
Step 0. extra the data from another database, and create plain text files for each table for BCP job.
Step 1. drop all of the index
Step 2. truncate all of the tables.
Step 3. BCP in all of the data from plain text file.
Step 4. create all of the index again
Step 5. shirnk the database.

Everything runs fine but the database grows 1 G from yesterday's database. I am sure we do not have so much data entry in one day.
Any one can give some suggestion?
I wonder if I need do shirnk the database or shirnk the data file before create the index.
How can know how much size for all of the index file?
Thank you very much.
Judy

Hi all,
We are using sql6.5. srvpack 3.
I noticed that one of our database was maxed out, and increased the size of the device and then increased the size of the database.
when I checked the database it is still showing the database is maxed out. I did it twice, it still shows that the space has been used.
Can anyone please explain to me why this is happening and how to get the actual space measurement.
Thanks in advance.
