View Not Working SQLSERVER 2000

Jul 20, 2005

Hi all

We have some tables with a couple of layers of very simple views built on
top. In the table are maybe 6 columns and about 15000 records. The first
view cobines the data in the table with some other data from a lookup
table. The second view does some sorting on the first view using certain
dates . They have worked fine for well over a year now.

Until this morning that is... the views stopped returning the full set of
results- even the very simple one that sits just above the table. The view
returned the core of the data from the main table, but nothing from the
lookup table.

In order to get them to work we had to delete each view (using access front
end to do this), and then recreate it with exactly the same SQL text. I am
guessing this causes SQL Server to recompile it. As soon as view 1 had been
recreated it worked, but view 2 still failed, again rebuilding view 2 it
started working.

The only thing I can think of is that this morning I added 2 new fields to
the base table, but I'm sure I've done this before without any (noticable)
problems.

any thoughts as to why it happened would be welcome, I am a bit nervous
now...

thanks

Andy

Problem Unicode Data 0x2300 In SQLServer 2000 SQLServer 2005 Express

Sep 20, 2006

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

Apr 18, 2008

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Thanks!!

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

Jun 14, 2006

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

Some Things Not Working In 2005 And Working In 2000

Mar 3, 2006

hi

I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'

when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.

Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???

any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?

Thanks in advance.

Reconnecting Access 2000 Front End To New Instance Of SQLServer 2000

Jul 27, 2004

I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.

When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.

I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Thanks!

Using Pack.Conf. SQLServer To Store Source Conn. Str. But Its Not Working.

Feb 21, 2008

Problem:

i have configure a SSIS package in BIDS to use an Env. Var. to store the location of the .dtsconfig file for the connection to my SSIS configuration table in SQL. I than use another Env. Var. to retrieve the source conn. str. from my SQL SSIS configuration table. Once my package loads, i select a simple sql task to execute, but it comes back and says that it cannot make the connection. How does the SQLServer connection string know what password to use? This is where i'm confused. I believe it loads the connection string for my source database but it doesn't get the password. I just started working in SSIS and i'm trying to get my head around all of the dynamic options of SSIS. I appreciate your time and help.

Problem Details:
package A has 1 sql execute task
Env.Var. 1 stores the location of the .dtsconfig file that stores the connection data to ssis sqlserver configuration table (used to store additional package properties in sql server)
Env. Var. 2 stores the connection string of my source database.
package protection level set at "EncryptSensitiveWithPassword"
the sql task is assigned to the source connection string, right click and execute task.

here is the error:
Failed to acquire connection "source database" Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permission on this connection.

I'm executing this from within BIDS just to check that my setup is going to work.

Here are some items i've tried or troubleshoot:

1. If I roll back the 2 package Configs or disable using package configs and replace my original source connection manager and create a new connection manager than i can get the sql task to successfully execute again. It won't usually work by just disable the package configs. i had to delete the existing source connection manager.

2. create a new package trying the same steps as above.

3. change the package protection level to "encryptSensitiveWithPassword" expecting this to retain the source connection password. I tried a variety of package protection levels.

Thoughts???? help.....please....

Good Practice When Working With Objects Using SQLServer As A Secure Store.

Oct 11, 2006

I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before, so I'm after a link to a good answer.

I have tens of thousands of milk crates, holding dozens of different types of milk in hundreds of locations. I am used to working with objects but not databases. For this situation however I want the security of SQLServer transactions to track, for example, when a robot moves a crate from one location to another.

I am thinking of using SQLServer as a store. On startup I want to get my ecosystem of objects out of the store. While I am running, I'll just use objects. When I change an object property I want it to securely persist. I don't want to snapshot the whole menagerie of object states, just update the values that changed. Which will sometimes include the addition or deletion of objects. How do I do this? Is there an example somewhere that does this (or approximately this)?

I use VB and have Visual Studio 2005. (Which, by the way, is stunning. I thought all that "you will use less time and code more and better" talk was just hype. But its for real. Amazing product.)

View 'order By' Not Working

Sep 22, 2006

Hi there,

I have a view created using the following code. The view works perfectly but does not order by the name column as I've asked it to do. In the view designer if I click on execute then the order is applied but if I save the view and run it externally (i.e. in an ASP page or within the management terminal) it does not order correctly and seems to order by the Id column.

Any help would be much appreciated. Here's the code:

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT dbo.Members.DivisionID, COUNT(*) AS Members, dbo.Country.Name
FROM dbo.Members INNER JOIN
dbo.Country ON dbo.Members.DivisionID = dbo.Country.CountryID AND dbo.Members.CountryID = dbo.Country.CountryID
GROUP BY dbo.Members.DivisionID, dbo.Country.Name
ORDER BY dbo.Country.Name

And another, more simpler view, that doesn't sort as it's supposed to.

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT CountryID, Name, RegionID, IsActive, HasFlag, URL, Comments
FROM dbo.Country
ORDER BY Name

Many thanks,

Ady

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

DTS 2000 Package Performance Issue On Sqlserver 2000

Sep 28, 2007

Hi guys,

I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed
We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows
First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.

Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'.
For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists.
Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.

The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest...
Thanks in advance

Interactive Sort Not Working In Tabular View

Jun 15, 2007

I am just starting with Sql Server reporting, but I can't get interactive sort to work for columns with aggregate fields.

I am using the following query for DataSet:

SELECT
Store.ID as StoreID,
Store.Name as StoreName,
COUNT(*) as NumReservations,
SUM(Appointment.TotalBeforeTaxes) as Revenue
FROM Store LEFT JOIN Appointment ON Store.ID=Appointment.StoreID
GROUP BY ALL Store.ID, Store.Name
ORDER BY Store.Name ASC

For report, I am using tabular data view. Interactive sorting works great for StoreID, StoreName, but doesn't work for NumReservations and Revenue fields. I turned it on for all 4 columns.

What could be causing this problem?

Im New To Using Views, And This Program They Have Me Working On Is Using Them Quite Heavily..(cant Read From A View)

Oct 11, 2007

This is my first post, so if i have not posted things in the best manner please lemme know how to be more informative, clear, so that i can learn.

So i have made a view with the following command

GO

/****** Object: View [dbo].[AppraisalView_C] Script Date: 10/11/2007 12:10:43 ******/

SET ANSI_NULLS ON

GO

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

GO

ALTER VIEW [dbo].[AppraisalView_C]

AS

SELECT a.Counter

,a.DateCreated

,a.DateModified

,a.UserCreated

,a.UserModified

,a.AppraisalDate_C

,a.TypeID_C

,a.Customer_C

,a.Employee_C

,b.Notes_C

,b.Value_C

,b.AppraisalLineItemID_C

,b.AppraisalID_C

FROM dbo.Appraisal_C AS a

INNER JOIN dbo.AppraisalLineItem_C AS b ON a.AppraisalID_C = b.AppraisalID_C

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the program im working on creates the SQL call to read from this view and creates
the following query

SELECT A.[AppraisalDate_C], A.[AppraisalID_C], A.[AppraisalLineItemID_C], A.[Customer_C], A.[Employee_C], A.[Notes_C], A.[TypeID_C], A.[Value_C]

FROM AppraisalView_C A

WHERE [AppraisalView_C].[AppraisalID_C] = 'APP-000006'

but I end up getting the dreaded "Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The multi-part identifier "AppraisalView_C.AppraisalID_C" could not be bound." error....

I cant change the Query that is called, but i can change the view, what is wrong?
