Visual Studio 2005 The Remote Connection To The Device Has Been Lost. Please Verify The Device Connection And Restart Debugging.
Jun 19, 2006
Basically I've been using Visual Studio 2005 for a few weeks now moving a Pocket PC project from 2003 to 2005. When I hit the Start Debugging Button every time until today the project would rebuild and deploy to my pocket PC allowing me to debug etc but now I get
The remote connection to the device has been lost.
Please verify the device conection and restart debugging.
I used to get this problem in VS2003 sometimes and just like the numerous posts on different sites that I've looked at the problem eventually goes away and I'm none the wiser. One guy said that he found that if he went to bed the problem was resolved when he came back!
My PDA running Windows 2003 2nd Edition is directly connected to my PC via a USB port. I've rebooted my PC and done a soft reset on the PDA but it didn't help. I'm using ActiveSync 4.1.
when i try to open the connection I get SqlException, altough the 10.0.0.11 machine is reachable.. is not allowed to access a remote sql server with ip?
A device solution I'm working on at the moment involves SQL compact. It is added to the currently selected project in VS2005 when I click on "Add New Data Source". The particular project it is added to within the solution is just a class library project (dll) which uses the database. The startup project on the other hand includes the windows forms etc. The problem I'm finding is that when the sdf file in the dll project is set to "copy always" or "copy if newer" it is not copied to the device at all. If I ensure that the sdf file is included in the startup project as "copy always" or "copy if newer", it does copy over to the device. Is this a bug or a feature?
I have Outlook 2007 w/BCM running on XP Pro workstation connecting to a SBS 2003 R2 hosting my SQL 2005 database. I have two problems: First I can get the BCM to connect to the remote data but periodically the connection is lost and many times it requires a reboot to reconnect. Secondly related to teh first, I can never get MS Accounting 2007 to connect to the same server and database from my client.
I have already set up the server to use port 5356 via TCP amd added a hole through my client windows firewall for the same port. Both client and server are set to share files and printers.
...works on my device, but on my computer it gives SqlCeException with message: The database file cannot be found. Check the path to the database. [ File name = Program FilesTreeNotesTreeNotes.sdf ]
I've tried all sorts of things, but the computer just can't find the database. I've even tried putting a copy of the database into... C:Program FilesTreeNotesTreeNotes.sdf...hoping that the computer will find it there.
Hi, I'm writing a windows application using VB.NET 2005 that must connect to Pocket PC via ActiveSync to read data from SQL Server CE. This is my code:
I installed the SQL Server 2005 Trial and am now having trouble connecting. When I bring up the ASP.NET Configuration tool and Go to "Provider configuration" "Select a single provider for all site management data" AspNetSqlProvider Test I get the following message.
"Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. "
I have already run the aspnet_regsql command-line utility.
Can anybody give me some information on how to set this up.
I am currently working with the club web site starter kit.
I have one computer running Visual Studio 2003, and another running SQL Server 2005. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to add a connection to a sqlDataAdapter from an application in the Visual Studio 2003 computer to the db on the SQL 2005 machine.
If I go to the machine running sql 2005, where I am running visual Studio 2005, I can create this connection with no problems.
Is there a way fromvisual Studio 2003 to create a sqlDataAdapter with a connection to SQL 2005?
Hello, I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio to remotely connect to my database for the project I am working on. I always get the same error, when I try to connect:
Code Snippet
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to the SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to the SQL Server) So, I decided to ping the server to see if any packets were being sent back to me, on the command prompt. 4 of my packets were sent to the server. 0 were sent back.
Code Snippet
Pinging sq15.bravehost.com [172.16.0.229] with 32 bytes of data
Ping statistics for 172.16.0.229: Packets: Sent = 4, Recieved = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), So, does the database not allow incoming connections, or am I missing something?
I have a sql express .mdf that is located in c:appdirectorymydb.mdf whilst developing an application. During development my connection string uses the above path to connect to the db. e.g.
I have published the app using click once in visual studio.net which places the db in : C:Documents and Settingsuser.nameLocal SettingsApps2.0DataJN1WL1DJ.X7B ... 08ed2810aab2abData
When i am executing the application following a clickonce install, what should I use in my connection string for the path to the db ? or where can I find the above path (e.g. in the registry) so that I can provide it to the connection string ?
Alternatively, can I specify where the DB is going to be installed (via click once). e.g. in my app directory under program files ?
I have tried searching what seems like everywhere for a solution to this problem and as a last resort thought it worth posting the question.
I am having problems with a couple of queries in the Development Studio (Reporting Services 205). I am working on a report that runs a lot of functions so I expect it to be slow. But it times out in 30 seconds.
Error Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
The report finishes when clicking on the preview tab but not when on the data tab. If finishes fine when deployed as well. Is there a way to increase the amount of time the query designer in Visual Studio takes to time out on a query?
I have tried setting the Connect Timeout=60 on the Data Source but it seems to be overridden by a setting in Visual Studio 2005.
Hello, How are you? I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?
I experienced this problems on both Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0.
Its native development (c++, oledb, atl and mfc).
It's quite simple to reproduce...
1. open a database
2. open a rowset on table A (whatever, valid of course and with both IOpenRowset and ICommandText), read datas and close rowset
3. power off
4. power on
5. try step 2 with another table (failed on openrowset with error 0x80004005) or try table A (sometimes working because of cached memory, sometims failed on Read Datas).
6. being stuck ;-)
Our work-around was, in case we loose our connection (identified by error 0x80004005 on openrowset), we close it and re-open database... ugly for sure, but working.
What I'm looking now is to use some kind of "detection method" like what people in .Net develoment are using "if ConnectionState.Open <> ...) for reopening my database only on demand...
Hey I need to know what shall i specify in this connection string in visual studio web.confug file inorder to connect to ma registered server (locally) not directly to my dedicated server ....cuz i am facing network connection problems .... b4 i used to use this connection string : <add key="conn" value="data source=IP addresseel,1433;initial catalog=xxx;user id=username on the dedicated server;Password=password on the dedicated server;timeout=60"></add> So how can i change it ???? to be able to connect locally ???? Please Help ???! Thanks in advance Hiba
My question has to do with the ability to recover a suspect database in the event that the transaction log device file becomes corrupt or is deleted.
Specifically, consider the case where a user database has it's data device on one hard disk and the log device file on a 2nd hard disk. The database is set to truncate log on checkpoint.
If the disk fails on which the log device file resides, the user database will be marked as suspect. Assume this disk is replaced and rebuilt from a tape backup, including the log device file (which was backed up to tape during off hours.)
Will SQL Server have any problems with this? Will database recovery have any problems with this (assuming the restored transaction log was empty)? Any other issues?
Hi ,I am using Visual studio 2005 with sql server 2005. I want to debug my stored procedure, which is situated on the server on the network(accessible through network share). I followed the following URL: http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/051607-1.aspxI have used Direct database debugging : When I right click my stored procedure and click 'step into stored procedure', I get the following error: "Unable to start T-SQL debugging. could not attach to SQL server process on 'sql_server_name'. The remote procedure call failed and did not execute" I am using windows authentication to login to sql server Any help?
I am unable to debug code from a SQL Database Project using the CLR. After VS 2005 does the auto-attaching to the SQL server, VS hangs until I tell it to stop debugging. Many others have reported this as a similar problem, however this only seems to affect me when I€™m connecting to specific servers. Specifically it seems to be remote connections. When I attempt to connect to my SQL 2005 Developer Edition €œlocally€? I get right through and can debug. From my VS output window:
Auto-attach to process '[1688] [SQL] gx620-eric' on machine 'gx620-eric' succeeded.
Debugging script from project script file.

The program '[1688] [SQL] gx620-eric: gx620-eric' has exited with code 0 (0x0).
When I attempt to connect to a remote server running Enterprise Edition, it hangs after a successful attach.
Auto-attach to process '[1856] [SQL] virtual2003eric' on machine 'virtual2003eric' succeeded.
Sometimes after countless attempts, I am able to get this to work, but lately I have had no success. As far as the SQL Server side, enabling and disabling the CLR through the Surface Area Configuration seems to be the only place to do anything relative to the CLR inside SQL server.
I have firewalls disabled. All SQL Servers presently have both SQL 2005 SP2 and Visual Studio 2005 SP1 installed.
I€™ve tried restarting servers and services, checking and un-checking €œAllow SQL/CLR Debugging€? and those steps did not work for me.
Does anyone have any insight on this one? Any ideas on how I can further debug this one?
Can anyone help me to recreate the .NDF file if it was lost and not restorable? I have a stored procedure written that will then help me rebuild all indexes on all tables, but I can't seem to figure out how to create the index file again so I can run it. I have tried index files from other databases to no avail. There is no backup to go to.
I have a database in development in SQL Server 6.5 that needs to be occasionally deleted and rebuilt from a script when table structures are changed. I found that when very complex queries were performed, the 2 MB default size of tempdb filled up and returned errors, so I went to the Enterprise Manager to expand tempdb, learned that I had to first expand a device to expand tempdb into, and foolishly chose to expand tempdb into the same device space used by my application, instead of into one of the system databases. Now when I try to delete the device in preparation for its rebuild, the Enterprise Manager responds with an error message saying the device can't be deleted because it contains system tables. Is there any way to get the expanded portion of tempdb out of my application device so that the device can be deleted, without reinstalling SQL Server?
backup database web to disk = 'c:inetpubwwwrootackupmybakup.bak' with format
I m Getting Error like :
Server: Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot open backup device 'c:inetpubwwwrootackupmybakup.bak'. Device error or device off-line. See the SQL Server error log for more details. Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
This error is Generated only when i m trying to access folders within "wwwroot" but not in any other folders , even command runs success fully for "wwwroot" folder . !!
I need to backup a remote Database to a local device. Does anyone know how I do this . How do I define a remote Network device/ what priviliges are needed How I do set up the Backup job....
Does anyone know if it is possible to have a tape device another server as a tape dump device on SQL. Instead on removing the tape drive and installing it locally ?!?
I want to set up remote backup device on "serverCentral" for 50 MSDE SQL2k servers so that they could use one backup to create(restore) any new customer databases. This way, I could keep one resource with many coming updating on procs and triggers...
I could create remote backup device with serverCentralackupackupdeviceName...
The problem is the remote device is "access denied" when I issued a "restore headeronly from backupDeviceName" sql query.
Neither I could issue xp_cmdshell 'dir serverCentralackup' --"Access Denied" from server49 Though I could dir serverCentralackup*.* from server49 command prompt. It looks security permission is OK otherwise I could not dir from command line. thanks for the help David
I am trying to connect to a database on a Windows Mobile device using the Management Studio. I am able to select server type "SQl Server Mobile" and navigate to the file on the device. When I try to connect I recieve the following error. Should this work? If so what must I do to allow the registry access?
Thanks,
Ron

i know i have the chance to access my mobile device (physical or emulator) from Management Studio. I went to Connect Object Explorer, server type Sql Server Mobile but i can´t connect to my emulator and i can´t see any way to connect to a physical device either. How can i do this?
The only thing i can do is create a sql server mobile database (.sdf).
I am running into issues with custom objects interaction with visual studio 2005.
1. Custom connection manager. I am setting the name of the connection manager ( to standardize naming convention ) that user created, however when the CM is created, the name displayed in visual studio is still the default name even if the real name is the one i set. I have to do things like, edit it or save package - close - reopen, create another connection, ... etc in order to get it refreshed.
2. Custom Task I am managing some variables in this custom task so that I will be adding and deleting variables in the package. The challenge i am running into is, when I added 2 variables for example, even though the variables are successfully added to package, the Variable Window in visual studio designer will not reflect the new variables. I have to save package, close, and re-open in order for the variables to show up.
So this brings to my question - is there any way to tell Visual Studio programmatically to refresh the contents of these 2 sections, 1 is the Variable Window and the other is the panel containing the list of connection managers.
I have been searching around and found some clue about visual studio SDK but I still cannot find an exact way of doing it. Visual Studio SDK example tells you how you can access the Variable window as
I am using Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition
I open it up, Connect to a SQL Server, expand through to the stored procedure I want, Right Click and ...... There are no options for stepping into the stored proc.
Could I have missed something on the install. Please Help!!!
Hello all. I've been trying to find answers for my problem in this forum (and others) but with no sucess so far.
My problem is that Visual Studio crashes when I start debugging a specific package. This package will call most of the other packages in the project (around 200) and it seems that Visual Studio is unable to handle that number of packages, or if it is, then something else is flawed somewhere. All the packages run as they should when I debug them by themselves. Running without debug works fine but I need it to run in debug mode.
I read some topics where the problem was about validation when opening SSIS but that's not my case. Everything runs smoothly and even the first minutes of debugging run ok, but after that the process keeps running, and I know that because some process tasks still popup, but visual studio doesn't respond at all.
I've had a VB 6 / SQL Server 2000 app running in a network enviroment for a couple of years now at a client of mine. Recently, he upgraded to the latest version of Quickbooks which installed SQL Server 2005 on the server. Now there is SQL Server 2000 and 2005 residing on the same server. My VB app still runs on the server but will not run on other machines. I can ping the server from the other machines. Has SQL 2005 taken over the port I was using or maybe has new security features that won't let me access SQL 2000 using my current connection string? Here is my current connection string: mstrConnStr = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=" & strServerLogin & ";Password=" & strServerPW & ";Initial Catalog=" & strDBName & ";Data Source=" & strServer.
I've followed the steps in http://www.sqlteam.com/article/debugging-stored-procedures-in-visual-studio-2005 & in the MSDN for configuring and setting up debugging SQL 2005 stored procedures in VS 2008 (seems to be the same as in VS 2005). Everything works fine until I Step Into the Stored Procedure. Everything says that a yellow arrow will appear on the left and I can start going line by line. I never get the yellow arrow.
If I set a breakpoint, it is automatically disabled. The pop-up warning says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. Unable to bind SQL breakpoint at this time. Object containing the breakpoint not loaded." I can't find anything about this message or problem on Microsoft's site or on the web. Any assistance is appreciated.
P.S. I'm running VS 2008 Professional Edition Version 9.0.2.1022.8 RTM
I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?
