Empty Warning Box Appears With Only OK Button (2 Processes Started) When I Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Sep 4, 2007

Hello,

I'm new to SQL server 2005. I installed SQL server 2005 and had some problems with the original install. I therefore uninstalled SQL server 2005. Rebooted and than installed SQL server 2005 again. Everything appears to have installed correctly except for the fact that when I start SQL Server Management Suite I get 2 copies running in the foreground. The last copy of the SQL Server Management Suite shows a dialogue box that contain a warning sign (yellow triangle) with no text but an OK button is in the dialogue box. When I press the OK button, this instance of SQL Server Management Suite kills itself. The first instance is now given window focus and it brings up the "Connect to Server" dialogue box. I can connect to my local server and run a script to add columns to the database. But everytime I bring up SQL Server Management Suite, I always end up with 2 copies running and I have to hit the OK button to get rid of the second copy. Can anyone help me get ride of this annoying problem?

Return Value Of Empty List

Aug 15, 2006

Hi,

I'm trying check the records which satisfies the following condn.

select @p1 = su1 from RER where (no=10 and atp ='N')

It returns empty list . bcos no match found.that's ok.

But i need to write the logic if record is not there.

i tried to do as follows

if ((@p1 =null) or (p1=' '))

...some logic

else

.. other logic

It's always executing else case. How do i catch empty value using sql query.

Is there any command there like null?

I tried in SQL query analyzer. Using SQL 2000.

Thank You

How To Return A List Of Empty Tables

Mar 19, 2003

I want to return a list of user tables from a database where the rowcount is 0. This will be a 3 step process: (1) truncate all 'New%' tables, (2) load data via ODBC/DTS into 'New%' tables, (3) list all 'New%' tables with zero rows (i.e. those that didn't get loaded, as all tables in the ODBC data source contain data).

I've tried:
select left(s2.name,32) as TableName, max(s1.rows) as Records
from sysindexes s1
inner join sysobjects s2 on s1.id=s2.id
where type = 'U' and s2.name like 'New%'
group by s2.name
HAVING max(rows) = 0
ORDER BY TableName
but of course there are multiple rows in sysindexes and the routine does not reliably return the correct list; for example the data in sysobjects & sysindexes, without the max and group by, might look like:
TableNameRows
NewARTxn0
NewARTxn1214800
NewARTxn1214800
NewARTxn1214800
NewARTxn1214800
NewARTxn1214800
NewARTxn1214800
I was hoping to come up with a single T-SQL statement that I could use in an xp_sendmail situation to email me the results.

Thanks for the suggestions.

SQL 2012 :: List All Different Values That Go With Single CAS ID To Appear As Comma Separate List

Jun 15, 2015

So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function

So the output would look like :

CASE_ID VARIABLE
=====================
1 [ABC],[HDR],[GHHHHH]
2 [ABCSS],[CCHDR],[XXGHHVVVHHH],[KKKJU],[KLK]

SELECT
preop.Case_ID,
dbo.Concatenate( '[' + CAST(preop.value_text AS VARCHAR) + ']' ) as variable
FROM
dbo.TBL_Preop preop
WHERE
preop.Deleted_CD = 0

GROUP BY
preop.Case_ID

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

Apr 9, 2008

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.

However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).

For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).

Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac

How can I accomplish this?

I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.

Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)

Jan 20, 2005

Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following:
Code:
If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true

In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Code:

IF
(SELECT values FROM tableA) IN(SELECT values FROM tableB)
Return False
ELSE
Return True

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.

I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.

Can anyone help?

Hi,

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.

Warning...newbie Here!

Jan 26, 2004

Hey guys....I have a quick question. I am having a problem with a certain app which connects to my SQL 2000 SP3a Database. It only occurs when I have a ^ in the password, both using SQL and NT authentication.

I have checked on MSDN and they do not list that character as one to avoid. I did find in the books online documentation that the ^ performs a bitwise exclusive OR operation....has anyone tested using ^ as part of a password to authenticate to a SQL db?

Should This Be An Error Rather Than A Warning?

May 25, 2006

If you have a package that uses an environment variable for an indirect configuration and the environment variable is not present when the package runs you get the following warning:

The configuration environment variable was not found.  The environment variable was: "Seer.ConnectionManager.CUECommonReference". This occurs when a package specifies an environment variable for a configuration setting but it cannot be found. Check the configurations collection in the package and verify that the specified environment variable is available and valid.

IMO, if the package is expecting to find something and cannot find it then it should cause an error, not a warning. I'm happy for people to disagree tho :)

Any comments???

Truncation Warning

May 24, 2007

Hello,

I'm having a problem with one of my packages due to a truncation warning that I can't get rid of. It's not the end of the world, because the package still works. It's just extremely frustrating.

The problem arises in a derived column item in a data flow task. There is a postcode field in the data flow which has space for 20 characters. I create a derived column from this which simply removes any spaces:

Derived Column Name: Postcode

Derived Column: Replace 'Postcode'

Expression: REPLACE(" ",Postcode,"")

Data Type: string [DT_STR]

Length: 20

Code Page: 1252 (ANSI - Latin I)

However when I use this expression, or anything else which uses the replace function, I end up with the warning message:

Warning 1 Validation warning. Create Staging Tables: Derived Column [20555]: The result string for expression "REPLACE(" ",Postcode,"")" may be truncated if it exceeds the maximum length of 4000 characters. The expression could have a result value that exceeds the maximum size of a DT_WSTR.

I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of the warning. Is there some way I can use the replace function, but not have the system convinced that I'm about to go over the maximum size limit?

Many thanks

Task Engine Warning

May 20, 1999

I'm running SQL Server 6.5, with the latest Service pack on NT 4.0 with SP4. A couple of days ago I started getting a warning message in my event log right after a scheduled task ran. The scheduled task calls three stored procedures (data dumps for master, msdb, and a production database) it also runs a consistency check on each before dumping them. I can interactively run each stored procedure and get NO error messages. Prior to getting the warning message (which occurs after the scheduled task runs) I get normal informational entries that the dumps occurred without a problem and the files are written to the proper area. The error is in the Task Engine category and are Warning type messages. Here is the text:

SQL Server Scheduled Task: 27, 'Proddata Dump' -- Status: Failed
-- Task Invoked on: 5/20/99 5:00:00 AM -- Message: Database 'ASSMTCTRPROD' (116647 pages) dumped to file <1> on device 'D:DATDUMPASSMTCTRPROD_990520_DATA.DMP'. (Message 4035)

Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Warning Message 1708

Feb 25, 2004

I use VB 6.0 with ADO 2.6 to access an SQL-server.
I know that the table I wish to create generates this warning.

But from today ( without any changes to the SQL-server ) , this warning is reported as an error to the client instead of continuing.
So my error trap routine traps this as an error now.

I have a workaround that I would to avoid and that's reinstalling the SQL-server ( Only the MSSQL ).

Does anybody know a better solution.

PS : Changing the table structure is not possible in this case.

Thnx in advance,

IIS Warning On SQL 2005 X64 Install

Nov 30, 2007

While intalling SQL 2005 on an x64 machine, I got an error message that warned that some functions of SQL would not install unless IIS was installed (and enabled) on the machine. It did not say what would not install, but I gather it is Reporting Services. I don't recall getting these warnings in previous (32 bit) installations of SQL 2005.

On the other hand, when I go into the BI Intelligence Studio on
a (32 bit) server that does not have IIS, I seem to be able to create
a report anyway (Not really my area of expertise ). Does that mean that Report Services is working without IIS?

Warning Re ADO .UpdateBatch Method

Jul 20, 2005

Awhile back there was some discussion about ways of sending multiplerows of data to SQL Server. The ADO .UpdateBatch method was one ofthe possibilities mentioned, and Erland said he thought that probablyonce the data get to SQL Server they are probably actually insertedone row at a time. I just want to say that based on an experience Ihad a couple of days ago I am now sure that is the case. I was using..UpdateBatch for something quick and dirty I had to do just once andwas too lazy to use XML for. An error was generated during the..UpdateBatch process because of invalid data in one row. However, alarge number of the rows in the batch WERE written to the database.Until now I haven't used .UpdateBatch in a production environment onlybecause this implies granting INSERT or UPDATE privileges to the user. But based on this experience I would NEVER use .UpdateBatch in aproduction environment, even for a user like a batch job where thepermissions would not be an issue.FWIW.

LazyWriter: warning, no free buffers found.

We used to solution to set a fixed as told in the post above and after that the problem went away. At least for the last 4 days.

Is this LazyWriter not fixed in SP2 for itanium or what?

Warning When Registering Stdole.dll

Apr 30, 2008

All,

I am able to "CREATE ASSEMBLY" for the stdole.dll without issue, however, I receive the warning:

Warning: Assembly "stdole" was built using version v1.0.3705 of the
.NET Framework. SQL Server currently uses version v2.0.50727.
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 6215)

I am unable to find a PIA for stdole that is .NET 2.0. Has anyone resolved this warning? Can I create a 2.0 PIA myself without causing other problems?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
