Want To Import Sql 2005 Express Data From Database1 To Database2
Nov 21, 2007
This is my scenario.
I have a live database and a development database. I want to import data from a few tables(not from all tables) in the live database into certain specific tables in the development database. The live database has the same name as the development database.
After a few searches on google, it looked like the solution was going to be SSIS but it wasn't because i'm using SQL Server 2005 Express (with advanced services) which does not support SSIS.
If any one knows how to import data across SQL Express databases please help. A link to a complete tutorial about the same would be nice as well.
Thanks

Is it possible to move rows from Table1 in Database1 to Table2 in Database2?
Say, I have Database1 containg Table1:
ID ¦ Cars
---------------
1 BMW
2 Mercedes
3 Toyota
1 Opel
etc....
And Database2 containg Table2 (that is empty just at the moment):
ID ¦ Cars
---------------
no data added yet...
How can I copy say everything from Table1 that has ID=1 (the parameter I send in with the stored procedure at execution), and insert this in Table 2?
This would be, I insert the row with the BMW thingy and the row with the Opel thingy as 2 new rows in table 2.
Note that the two tables are located in 2 different databases.
I am using SQL Server 7 and am trying to implement this in a stored procedure.
Thanks for all help!!

i have a website project making an online catalog, maybe 20 categories, a few hundred items. the small business starter kit looked perfect to jump start this. the client has provided an access database with the two table for categories and products. i've got the dts wizard installed and have been trying to import the access data into the sbsk database but i'm stuck. i'm almost positive that ONE time when i was banging around with the dts wizard, the Edit Mapping screen would let me drop down a list of fields in the destination table so I could actually tell it which field data from the source i wanted to go into which field of the destination. Of course it didn't succeed that time and now i can't seem to figure a way to get back to having the option to choose the destination fields, all it gives me in the drop down is "<ignore>" or the field name of the source table, which of course doesn't match any of the ones that are in the sbsk.
i've been back through it for a couple days, trying different ways, migrating the data first to sql, letting it try a transfer to a new table then trying to import that, moving both out to excel, aligning the data manually and trying to import that, etc. i'm bout out of ideas and would sure like to get back to just trying to work out the data type alignment issues with whatever it was i did when i could choose the destination table's fields.
i'd be most appreciative if anyone has a clue what i'm talking about and can put me back on track.

I am still a bit of a noob with SQL, but, when I use Enterprise Manager with my SQL 2000 server at the office, it is pretty simple to import data from pretty much any data source. I have not been able to locate the Transform facility in the 2005 express software that I downloaded onto my home pc (to help me learn SQL). Did I not install something that I need? or am I just missing what I am looking for? The net question is, how do I import data?
Thanks,
Tom

Greetings.
Our company is planning to upgrade to ESRI's brand new ArcSDE Personal edition and SQL Server Express 2005 platform to do GIS work for our clients. We are not in a position at this time to migrate to the full ArcGIS Server and SQL Server 2005 platform. We currently use a Microsoft Access 2003 relational database, and have no intention to move to Access 2007.
ArcSDE Personal cannot connect to SQL Server 2005, but it is able to connect and work with SQL Server Express 2005.
In SQL Management Studio Express, we were unable to find any feature that would allow us to import and export data to/from SQL Server Express. This is rather unusual, as we need to test how SQL Server Express will handle import and export data. In Microsoft Access we simply right click and choose import or export in the database window. Easy as pie. We ran the upsize wizard in Microsoft Access to migrate our data. But after that, our GIS team was pretty much stuck.
My question is, how does one import/export data to/from SQL Server Express? Do we need to install a missing component? Is scripting required? Or should we wait until we are able to acquire the SQL Server 2005?

After some weeks evaluating tools and platforms for developing an application, I decided to move to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Everything was fine till last night, when after creating my tables, I needed to populate them. I tried to find the Import and Export Data Wizard that SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 used to have, but great was my surprise when I found - in this forum - a post that said that it's not available in the Express Edition.
I'll have to move back in time (what I hate) to remember the way BCP worked. Can somebody post some examples to not start from zero ? Does anybody know a third party visual tool that can import/export data from text files to a SQL Server DB via ODBC ?
What's the reason it was not included in the EE ?
THanks !

It looks like these options are only available in the SQL Server Management Studio? I installed SQL Server Management Express Studio and I can't even find the DTSWizard.exe on my machine.
Can you please help how I can import data from excel or where can I download the SQL Server Management Studio?
Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
Me.myTableTableAdapter.Update(Me.myDatabaseDataSet.myTable)
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
Thanks,
Ieyasu

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express on a laptop for development purposes and would like to import some Access databases that I was using coupled to programs written in VB 6.
If using SQL Server 2000 I could use the management studio to automate the import but I can not find any way to do this in Management Studio Express. Would have thought that this would be the typical migration route - Access to Server Express
Is there some way to automate this procedure?
Thanks

This problem only occurs after deployment, not when debugging. In the table I am having a problem with I have an ID field designated as the primary key with the identity increment set to 1 and the identity seed set to 1. There is no data in the table when deployed. I can add records to the datagridview control but when I try updating the dataset I get this error indicating that the ID field already has a value of 1 present. If I close the application and re-start it, the exception no longer occurrs when I update the dataset. I am including the code to update the tables incase something is wrong there. Any suggestions?
Private Sub UpdateMemberTable()
Me.Validate()
Me.TblMembersBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMembersTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMembers)
Me.TblMemberDependentsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMemberDependentsTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMemberDependents)
Me.TblMemberContributionsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TblMemberContributionsTableAdapter.Update(Me.ChurchFamilyDataSet.tblMemberContributions)

I am new to SQL Server, and migrating part of an Access application toSSE. I am trying to insert a comma delimited file into SSE 2005. I amable to run a BULK INSERT statement on a simple file, specifying thefield (,) and row () terminators. I can also do the same with aformat file.Here is the problem. My csv file has 185 columns, with a mixture ofdatatypes. Sometimes, a text field will contain the field delimiter aspart of the string. In this case (and only in this case) there will bedouble quotes around the string to indicate that the comma is part ofthe field, and not a delimiter.Is there any way to indicate that there is a text delimiter that isonly present some of the time?If not, any suggestions on getting the data into SSE?Many thanks for your input.Cheryl

I want to export data in a table from one database to another database. And I would like it bo be clone of the source table, if it's possible. Is there any tools out there that can help me with this or do I have to write my own code?Is it possible to query the database to get all columns and datatypes for å requested table? If possible, can you give me an example?If I have to write a tool myself I guess I would do something like this: Export - Query the database for columns and datatype for the requested table. Dynamically generate a query to retrieve all rows from the table and save it to an xml file. Import - Turn off the Identity Increment, loop through the xml file and generate insert queries to insert a clone of each row, turn off the Identity Increment. Viola! If programming only could be that simple :-) Regards, Sigurd

Hi, I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express and do not see how I can enable the Import Data... feature which I have seen on the regular Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio version.
Basically, if I right-click on a database, I'd like to use the Import Data... function which should be found in this menu under the Tasks... item. The Import Data... menu choice is visible just below the Generate Scripts... choice in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio but not in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Can anybody tell me if this feature is available in the express version. If not what are my options in order of least cost. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is really beyond my ability to purchase.
Thanks for your advice!

hey,
i have a problem, to import a self signed openssl certificate into the sql server 2005.
my final idea is to get encrypted columns from the database over an jdbc connection in a java client.
when i use a certificate generated by the sql server 2005, i can encryt columns of a table. then i catch the

ok. i have export the the certificate and the private key of the sql server 2005.
problem: in a keystore i can only import the certificate (signed public key) but not the private key.
my new idea is to import an openssl certificate or an certificate generated by the keytool (java) into the

I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file.After importing a data into the mdb file, above column
data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
