Can anyone please tell me how to access a SQL server database remotely. I have the IP address and login info. of the NT machine that is running SQL server database, and I want to access the data remotely.
I have a problem when trying to save a transaction remotely. I'm using my pc as the server and I can save without any problem from local (the same project). But when I try accessing the project from other pc, the transaction doesn't get saved into the db. No error displayed. It's just doesn't get saved. What is the problem? Is there any IIS setting that I should put in?
Hi everybody, Currently we have a MIS application, developed in VB 6.0 - SQL Server 2000 platform, which is used by around 60 users in our office. We are planning to host a website remotely, which would allow clients to place orders, track order status etc. on it. Would it be possible to access our local SQL database from the remote website?
Hi, I hope you can help.I have configured a Windows 2003 web server and SQL 2005 Server (on same box) to successfully allow remote connections and to allow access via SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005.The problem I have is that I want to restrict access to the databases on the server via the Management Studio to specific databases e.g. 1 database user "sees" only 1 database.I can configure it so that the user's remote access permissions do not allow access to other databases but they can still "see" the database listed in the Management Studio explorer.I can also configure it so that the users cannot see all the databases (by disabling View All Databases on SQL Server), but this means that they cannot not see their own database which they have permissions for.Is it impossible to have the desired behaviour of only displaying the database which the remote user accessing has permissions for and hiding all other databases?I have MSN'd,Googled and Yahoo'd this one to no avail :(Many thanksFergus
Primary platform on client is XP Pro sp2 and on server Win2003 Ad.Server 64-bit We're looking for any snippet or link related with Clustering instantiating. We need to call our remote cluster from an ASP 3.0 page and check out if one of our Active Resource is up (in this case is a .net service) .
We suppose that it should be done for each node. It's an Active-Passive cluster.

Hello, I am new to SQL Server Express, I am trying to upscale my database/Application to a SQL Server/Application with C#. All I want is to create a SQL Server service on my Office Server and manage it via my station. But I keep getting this error:
TITLE: Connect to Server Cannot connect to SERVER.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10060)
The thing is that I went on the Server in the Surface Area Manager, I allowed IP and and Name pipes on network. Still does not work.
When I open the Manager from my station, I see the Server but keep getting this error.
Currently I am being told that for someone to remotely view reports that are stored in RS an individual needs to login to a PC's OS with the correct domain and user name. When they launch the browser it will them allow them access to the reports stored in RS.
This seems to limit the capabilities for a remote access
Can you go to any PC anwhere, type in the URL, and get a prompt for user name and password for access? Will the user name and password allow restrictions to what you can see? Is there anwhere where I can see an example of this? Like a dummy site or something?
I can't run my web application on remote pc which is connected in flan with my pc.It works on my local pc but it is not working on remote pc. i m geeting an error like as blowAn error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I have a named instance of MSDE running on my windows 2k3 web server. I can connect just fine using ODBC to that DB whailst I am on the server.
I would like to be able to create an ODBC connection from my local machine (running Windows XP pro) to the MSDE database on my server but I can't get it going.
I have heard that I need to edit the registry but a Google search warns that this could be a vulnerability...
How do I do it without compromising the security of my web server?
how can i publish my RS2005 reports with asp.net(2005) application.I am trying by creating virtual directory ,the aspx page runs but it is unable to access reports from report server
Is there any article on how can i deploy report with asp.net so that i can access report using aspx page remotely
Only the server administrator user can connect to SSIS from remote workstations. All other users encounter "Access denied". What security settings are necessary to permit regular user access to SSIS? Firewalling is not an issue. SSIS is running and works fully for the server administrator user. All users can manage the Database with SSMS just fine; only SSIS cannot be accessed by regular users.
I am tring to access the SQL 2005 Express which installed in remote machine. Front end app is on Visual Studio 2005. Try to connect SQL Express using the application Layer which is installed on the computer where SQL Express is installed. Could not fetch data from the SQL Express. What could be the problem?
I am creating a SQL Named instance as a testing environment. This instance is on the same physical box as my Development environment, both are SQL 2005 standard edition. From the server in Management Studio, I can load, and interact with both instances. From a remote connection (e.g., my pc) I cannot access the named instance. I am getting the following:
Connect to Server
X Cannot connect to <server><named instance>
Additional Information
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Sever 2006, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)(Microsoft SQL Server) I have checked, and rechecked the server settings for this named instance, and remote connections are set to "allow" I have enabled TCPIP and Named Pipes prototocals, and have ensured that my firewall is allowing the "listenting port" for the named instance, and have even tried turning off my XP firewall during testing. I am sure that I have probably missed something, and have searched the community but only have been able to find resolutions that I have already tried. Is there more? Thanks in advance for any help and guidance you can provide.
Hi, It seems like For Loop Container works like do-while loop in C++. I have set its EvalExpresstion to @[User::SyncStats]==0 , I have an Execute SQL Task before this container that sets the variable to 1 but Container still executes atleast one time.
I've got a Foreach loop container which uses a Foreach ADO Enumerator and works fine.
But problem comes when I launch inside the general loop another Sql Task (select) which sometimes has rows and sometimes hasn't. When it have rows everything is fine the workflow follows fine but when it has not.
I obtain this error (obvioulsy)
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "GZon": "Single Row result set is specified, but no rows were returned.".
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS)
when I attempt to connect to Reports or ReportServer from my desktop, but it works normally when I login with the same userid and run it directly on the server, using IE. It is prompting me for a login 2 or 3 times before failing.
My configuration is:
Report Server system:
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 - 32bit
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Enterprise Edition Windows & Web Service run as a domain account Database connection is using domain account - not in db_owner, but in RSExec roles Database is on another server, and is Native, not SharePoint integrated Reports & ReportServer are in a separate application pool Reporting Services had SP2 installed before it was configured The Rport Server is a VM
Database server
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 - x64 SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 64bit Version 9.00.3200.00
The Report Manager was not working at all, and I discovered that there was no entry in the .Net Framework version on the APS.Net tab in properties for the Reports virtual directory. I am not seeing any errors or anything unusual in the Event log or in the ReportServer log files.
FrontPage 2002 extensions were installed, and then removed. I noticed that this installed a SharePoint virtual directory, and that disappeared when I removed FrontPage extensions.
The domain group my userid is in is in the local Administrators group on the ReportServer system, and I have added this group as a System Administrator and Content Manager through the report Manager.
Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report 2. IP address of user agent 3. Identity of current user 4. Date/Time of the failed attempt
I'm developing a VB app to manipulate data in a table. I've created an SQL server (local) and have successfully connected to and manipulated data in a database that I created. I would like to be able to run the app on another machine and connect to the same server. I'm having trouble determining what the server name is. Tried a few things but get the "server does not exist" message. Server is set to authenticate SQL server and windows.
Is this happening because my server is (local)? If so how do I change it to permit remote access?
I'm writing an web app in VS2005. I've created a product.mdf database through VS2005's Server Explorer (to my knowledge, I'm not using Sql Express). (Side question. The .mdf files are a stand alone xml structure used as a database, correct?). When I execute locally, everything works great. But when I moved my code to where it is being hosted (remote computer). It's throwing the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) This is my connection string:<add name="MyConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Product.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
Hi Folks,I should begin by saying I'm fairly new to SQL Server. I'm an applicationdeveloper who has built front ends atop Server, but have never done much inthe way of design / development. My question is in two parts;1). What is the best way to remotely "create" an SQL Server database? I'vebeen told that this can be done with SQL Statements, but thought that theremay be a way using XML.2). Can I use this same method to propogate updates to the remote databasewithout affecting the data?To give you a better idea of what I'm trying to do, I have a client thatlives quite a ways up north. I'm building an application that will beinstalled up there. I'd like a method to be able to make changes to thisdatabase on my end (the development copy), create an XML file of the"database structure" and have the other database or application import thisXML file, and add tables, fields and relationships if they don't alreadyexist.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!Rick
I'm working on a website remotely through a VPN and my client uses SQLServer. There's a requirement for a database and my client uses SQLServer 2000.Is it possible to administer this database remotely, just like I dowith MySQL/PHP MyAdmin? Please elaborate. Thanks,Marjorie
I have a query of the kind brains of this group. Is it possible to access a microsoft sqlserver database (for select, insert, update, delete, and for miscellaneous administrative actions such as tableand index creation and deletion) remotely from a compiled C program (and/or,from Perl) running on a NON microsoft platform, such as Sun's Solaris and/orLinux?What toolset(s) could be used (on the UNIX/Linux end) for such a purpose?Would it require a corresponding special toolset to be installed on theWindows server end as well? (I'd prefer not to have to do that ifpossible.)If you are not now rolling on the floor laughing at the "heresy" of such anotion, thanks in advance.DanJoin Bytes! (replace 'glowing' with 'lucent')
Morning Guys, I have a database where I need to kill a remote connection. If I was manually logged into the box i would you a netstat command to stop the service. I would like to end a process from another machine before starting a restore process
WSUS is installed on my windows 2003 server. During the install, parameter DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS was not specified, and so no remote connection was possible.
I used SVRNETCN.exe to enable TCP/IP remote connection on port 1433. However it seems not to work.
FROM THE SERVER :
osql -E -S MYSERVERWSUS works fine but
osql -E -S 127.0.0.1WSUS doesn't work, i get the famous error
[DBNETLIB]Serveur SQL spécifié non trouvé. [DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
If i user "osql -L" command, my instance doesn't appear in the list
FROM A CLIENT COMPUTER
osql -E -S MYSERVERWSUS and
osql -E -S MY_SERVER_IPWSUS don't work, i get the same error
I've tried tried to understand for hours, and i'm lost. I thought there may be a problem between SQL and 2003, and read SQL sp3a was required. I ran
select @@version from osql and got result
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.881 (Intel X86)
8.00.881 is not referenced in ms support as a patched version number !!!!!
I am experiencing a Named Pipes Provider error 40 message as detailed below. I get this when I'm running the dta utility on a production server which is trying to remote onto a test server to use the metadata and optimizer there.
The error reported is...
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
(note: there is no (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: xxx) reported at the end of the error string)
The error results from the following cmdline syntax run from the production server.
dta -A 0 -E -e C:TuningLog.xml -F -ix C:DTA.xml -N OFF -of C:outputdta.sql -rl ALL -s DTA_20071205
Prod box: 64bit SQL2005 SP2 Std Ed Named instance, TCPIP and Named Pipes enabled, SQL Browser service running. Test box: 32bit SQL2005 SP2 Std Ed Default instance, Listening for local and remote connections on TCPIP and Named Pipes (configured through the SAC), SQL Browser service running. From the SQL Log on the test box I can see TCPIP is listening & Named pipes is listening on \.pipesqlquery
There is no firewall configured on either box.
I can connect to the test server from the prod box using sqlcmd -E -S<servername> I can ping the test server from the prod box
Would you have any idea what I'm doing incorrectly? The genericity of the error message doesn't give me much of a clue and the resolutions I've read all revolve around SQLBrowser, surface area config, and SQL Express which I've covered off.
i have a stored procedure that backups database on server A which i execute this SP from server B in a scheduled job. when i run this job it gives me an error: Executed as user: domainuser_name. Could not relay results of procedure 'usp_BackupDBOnServerA' from remote server 'ServerB'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7221) [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7312). The step failed. i searched MS KB, everywhere but could not find the solution or even explanation why this happenning. both sql servers are 2000 and they are linked.
