I ran the command line tool C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regsql.exe. Then I ran the web config tool and tried to test the default provider and it keeps saying it couldn't connect to the database. The database exists in sqlExpress instance. Any ideas?
I have a server with 3 SQL Server named instances on it - servername, servername/TST and servername/GOLDSTD. I have several databases on the default instance (servername) but users cannot access the databases unless they are given system admin privileges to their login. This occurs using both SQL Server Logins and Windows authentication logins. If I move the database to a different named instance (servername/TST), the problem no longer exists and users can connect with dbo privileges. Any suggestions or is this typical for default instances? Thanks in advance for any help
How do I tranfer a previous table and its data to the ASPNETDB.MDF in the Web Site Administration tool. I've tried right, but I can't locate the database in the SQL server on my server. help please.
Hi I want to set up my web app to use a web parts personalization, I notice that a default database named aspnetdb is made, I also made one in my sql server using the aspnet_regsql.exe to make it. Now what I need to find out is how to make my app point to the database in the sql server instead of making that default one.
Hi, can anyone help me please - I'm still struggling with my database. My set up is: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005, SQL Express 2005, GoDaddy windows shared hosting. On my PC I have a site which uses membership and the default database which was created after first compilation. This works fine locally. However, I need to export this to the GoDaddy server. To do this I must rename the database (or recreate the project with a newly named database) and figure out how to alter any other settings. I tried running aspnet_regsql.exe command but I really didn't have any luck. I would have thought this would be a straight forward operation. Can anyone give me guidance please. Garrett
I've been having trouble getting this tool to work with my server/database. I'm using XP Pro, MSDE, .NET 1.1.4322 and IIS 5.1. IIS has been installed and tested with the help of others. .asp pages are being served locally and to another PC on the network. No obvious problem here. When I installed MSDE I used the SAPWD='strongpassword" command to create a password. I also built a new database. I had positive feedback on both of these actions.
Now to the tool - when I activate the administrator it pops with the little window saying Web Server Configuration. It lists the following options:
Desired Port: IIS Cassini Personal Web Server Restore Faults
and Start and Stop buttons.
If I leave the setting on IIS and click Start it opens a webpage entitled Web Data Administrator. Moving further down I have a welcome message and then the line -
Please enter a SQL Server name:
Username: [Desktopob shadowed entry] Password Server (local)
Authentication Method:
Windows Intergrated SQl Login
and then a Login button
If I select SQL Login and enter "sa" as the username and then my password leaving (local) as the server I get the following error:
Invalid username and/or password, you are using a windows login that is not your own, or server does not exist.
I have tried all combination of \desktopsa, sa, you name it. The password I selected is correct because I made a point of writing it down so I wouldn't forget it. I have also tried all the combos using Cassini as well.
This is where I'm stuck at this point. All suggestions are appreciated.
Hi! My problem is...i gut this errormessage in Web Site Administration Tool: There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: The database filename can not contain the following 3 characters: [ (open square brace), ] (close square brace) and ' (single quote)
I recieved it after i try'ed to change the default Providers and use another DB then default. Now i want to go back to how it was from start, if i create a user and role - i want VS 2005 to create a SQL Express DB for me. Can anyone help me? I have even tryed to reinstalled VS 2005 but it didn't help. /Bamsen
I am looking for an ASP.NET tool that allows me to access a SQL Server remotly. We have created a database and would like to begin populating the tables before development of our site. The main funtionality I am looking for is to be able to view all tables within a database in the SQL Server. Also, I would like to be able to insert data into these tables. Is anyone aware of a tool like this?
I've been trying to get my website back up and running, I lost the db and will have to reconstruct that but in the meantime I would like to get the website back in operation right now I have the following problems.
I receive an error message when trying to create a new user in the web admin tool. see 1A or I receive another error message saying that the administrator is not authorized to sign onto the db and I seem to have the authorization settings incorrect for the hashed password settings I had...
Ive looked back through my notes and the last time this happened I created a new database with the web admin tool but my settings are such that this still doesn't eliminate the error messages. Right now the website is in a cannot find server mode.
Thanks for your help.

Still having a problem. does anyone answer these forums? Since Microsoft is not offering support on VWD 2005 and it sends you to these forums for answers don't you think that they should staff the forums? for at least a modicum of support. Who - ever heard of a product being released without a repair system in place? HELP REQUESTED.
I'm looking for a free tool akin to SQL Server Enterprise Admin that i can use to administrate some of my databases on remote hosting from my home PC... any recommendations?
Running ASP.NET 2.0 on a Windows SBS2000 with IIS5 and SQLServer 2000 on the same box. Trying to use membership controls to authenticate. Installed aspnetdb on the server using aspnet_regsql.exe Ran an ASPX page with the asp:CreateUserWizard control. The "create user" button returns the following error: A user instance was requested in the connection string but the server specified does not support this option I appears that the connection string I am using is wrong.(See below for web.config entries) I have tried: "data source=RGMILLSITES;Integrated Security=True;database=aspnetdb;User Instance=True""data source=RGMILLSITES;Integrated Security=True;database=aspnetdb;User Instance=False""data source=RGMILLSITES;Integrated Security=True;database=aspnetdb""data source=RGMILLSITES;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;User Instance=False""data source=RGMILLSITES;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb" I have renamed LocalSqlServer to LocalSqlServerASPNETDB to ensure that a global configuration is not used. I tried to rename the server in the connection string and got the same error"data source=RGMILLSITES00;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb" I've checked the Machine.config and web.config in the C:WINNTMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIG folderNeither have the LocalSqlServerASPNETDB configuration listed. So now I'm thinking there is a cashing isssue. I've tried to restart the site and got the same result. Any thoughts would be appreciated. RobGMiller

Hi Eevryone: I seem to have corrupted my ASP.net Web Site Administration Tool some how. It worked fine a few days ago, but reloaded SQL Server 2005 Express Edition W Adv Services SP1 yesterday I can not get past the "Unable to connect to SQL Server database" error. I have run the aspnetdb.exe and created both a aspnetdb.mdf and loaded the tables to into a existing mdf. I have checked all the permissions. So any ideas on what I am doing wrong, or can you point me to some documentation on the 'AspNetSqlProvider'
I designed the AlwaysOn wrong, but every time we fail over from primary server to another server, my applications cannot connect because the sql logins cannot connect to their default databases. Once I run the command to link the login with the user in the default database then the users are able to connect. Did I do something wrong when designing AlwaysOn?

I have a bit of problem I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have a SQL Server 2005 database which leverages both the Membership and Roles APIs. When I recreate the database for production release, I simply run an sql file using the sqlcmd utility - no problem. What I need is a way to add a default administrator role, account and assign this new administrator to the administrator role. Can someone advise on how this is typically handled?
Hello,I am trying to connect to a DB, which is hosted on an SQL Server 2005 by a provider, using ASP.NET Configuration Tool. The result is the following error when I click on the Security Tab:---There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) ---The hosting provider checked that my connection string is correct. They do not know why I get the error, though. Here is a relevant snippet from my web.config:<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer"connectionString="Data Source=ABC;Integrated Security=false;Initial Catalog=ABC;User ID=ABC;Password=ABC"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /></connectionStrings>ABC is a mock :)Could anyone pls help? It is much appreciated.
I would like to setup the membership and role in web administrator tool, however, under Security section, I got the error message of "Unable to connect to SQL database". I tried to run aspnet_regsql.exe to edit the config(C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727>aspnet_regsql.exe), however, it still shows this error message. I am using web developer 2008 and SQL Server 2005. Please advice me how to tackle this problem.
If I install an instance with Windows Only authentication, and then change it to Mixed Mode, if I enable the sa login, the password has already been set. What is the default? If it's generated, how secure is it? Is the password generated? What algorithm is used for that?
I am tasked with correcting 600 SQL Server instances default settings. I would like to use powershell, if possible to loop thorough each named instances (I have a list) and apply the following settings. I also need to query the server for the installed memory and apply * 80% logic for maxmem, and look at the VCPU count and adjust the MAXDOP to that number.
USE MASTER GO EXEC sp_configure 'recovery interval (min)', '0'; RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE; EXEC sp_configure 'allow updates', '0'; RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE; EXEC sp_configure 'user connections', '0';
Back in July I released the (then) latest version of SsbAdmin. For you who don'r know what it is; it's a tool which allows you to graphically administer SQL Server Service Broker.
I have now uploaded a new version which is compiled against the released versions of SQL Server 2005 and .NET 2.0.
You can download it from here: [0].
After download, un-zip to some directory and read the README.doc file.
Hi, I am connecting from clientside with sql server 2005 installed trying to connect to a database running on a server with sql server 2000 installed. this is not a 2000 to 2005 compatibility issue. I can connect locally fine to the server and log in using the sa account, however for BDE admin i HAVE to use the server name instead of ip address. If i try to use the ip address of the server, the connection dosnt get established. *this is all happening localy on our own network.
How to I use ip address to connect instead of the server name? I will need to connect remotely outside of our network later on, and i dont think I can use the servername. Does anyone have a solution? thanks.
When I try to connect to a default Express instance in Management Studio at the machine (Windows XP SP2) where the instance is installed, I'm getting the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
What does provider: SQL Network Interfaces mean? Does it mean the Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP?
Additional information: 1. The following Network Protocols are enabled: Shared Memory, Named Pipes, TCP/IP thru Configuration Manager 2. SQL Server Express default instance is running using NT AUTHORITYNetworkService. 3. SQL Server Browser service is not running. I believe this is not needed unless I want to connect to the instance from another machine. 4. Has tried to disable Windows Firewall but I believe it should not be matter in this particular case since this is within the same machine. 5. Can connect to the instance in ODBC Administrator using System DSN thru Named Pipes or TCP/IP.
Can such error caused by not having sufficient memory so the system is running kind of slow?
I am getting the error: Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed. When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003. I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at. My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions? I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.
Thank you.
EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role. Is that correct?
There are two machines(A and B) in intranet . The network between the machines is well. I can't use client in machine A to connect the sql server in Machine B until i set the "connection timeout" a bigger number such as 30 seconds. If i use the default "connection timeout" to connect , it will return a error message " Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding" But The correspondence of executing sql command is very quick after the connection is established.
Why need i bigger "connection timeout"? Is that a configuration problem?
I just installed SQL Server 2005 CTP (9.00.1116) on Windows Server 2003 with SP1. Then I unzipped DotNetNuke portal site and tried to connect to it with various errors, generally relating to invalid login.
This is the code I have been using to connect to my default instance for 18 months. A recent upgrade to Windows Live onecare now prevents me connecting to the server from the same machine. The following error message is generated:-

If I turn off the onecare firewall I can connect as normal, but this is not a desired option. I have tried enabling port 1433 on the firewall, this does not work either. Any help greatly appreciated, onecare support seems reluctant to help.
