Website Upload To Hosting Company - SQL DB Doens't Work - Please Help
Sep 1, 2006
I developed my first webpage using c#, VS2005 and SQL Express and it works fine in my Computer.
Tried to upload it to a hosting company, they have SQL 2005 Server.
I can surf through the pages but nothing that has to do with the database works.
Is there anything I should have done before uploading the site?
Please help.
I must be missing something, and its starting to fusterate me. Bear with me here. I created a site for a ...client I guess you'd call it, and made this really slick newletter generator thing. The people from the web enter in their info, and if they want, they sign up for a newsletter -- all tied into a db, 1 table, 4 stored procedures, REALLY simple stuff. They insisted I used a certain webhost which, on paper, looks like it will fit the bill. I'm starting to question that. On top of the newsletter thing, I created an aspnetdb for the "administration" side of it for her to log into and send out the newsletter so total, there's 2 dbs in the app_data folder. Locally, it works GREAT and on my test box (iis6) that is running 2k5 express. The webhost runs sql2k in (what I consider) a bastardized way. Can't use the management studio, can't use anything except a really weak web-based interface which adds to my fusteration. Anyway, my questions : 1, is there a way to make the mdf files work with sql2k without having to re-do the whole thing and 2, if I have to redo it, does anyone have an example connection string that might help out?
Hi I need for my hosting company to send my db that I have convert from SQL EXR.2005 to 2000 and send them a backup file. I have back up it (task> backup )and sand it over they cant open (restore) it and I do not understand why What did I do wrong? (this time:- ) Thanks assaf
Our company website runs off of Microsoft SQL Server. Someone tried changing the 'administrative' password but the way that they did it locks us out of the database.
Under Enterprise Manager there is a Security group, underneath here is a login. The person reset the password here on the login id that is the DBO for our website's database. Underneath the database in Enterprise Manager the dbo uses this login id. Where else does the password need to get reset in order for that login id to access the database? We cannot set it back to the previous password because it is unknown.
When we go to our website we get the following error: Error Executing Database Query. [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect
Please try the following: Enable Robust Exception Information to provide greater detail about the source of errors. In the Administrator, click Debugging & Logging > Debugging Settings, and select the Robust Exception Information option. Check the ColdFusion documentation to verify that you are using the correct syntax. Search the Knowledge Base to find a solution to your problem.

For one of my clients I have built 2 applications. The 1st one is a windows based application that is used for production and employee scheduling. The data for this application is stored in a SQL Express database. The 2nd one is a ASP.NET 2.0 site that contains the clients website and a portal page. The portal page uses forms authentication and redirects a customer to a page that shows the production schedule for this customer. So I have 2 kind of users: local (LAN) and web. Both using the same database.
For test purposes the site is currently hosted on the clients SBS 2003 server (this is the only server). However I don't think it is wise to host the public website on this server. What is the best configuration to host the public website safely? I read about putting a webserver in a DMZ. But I need a connection with the SQL Express server to retrieve the data for the portal section. As well for authenticating the customer and for retrieving the schedule data.
I'm currently using Windows Authentication on the SQL server. Can this still be used when the webserver is in the DMZ?
If I understand it correctly the webserver in the DMZ is not part of the local domain? Also could remote hosting be an option at all?
I have a database in my local system. here every thing is working fine. now i need to upload the database in the hosting server. i dont know how to upload the db. so i sent a msg to my hosting support center , they told "use microsoft enterprise manager software for upload". pls let me guide how to upload through enterprise manager. please. i know the remote database username and password.
I am an ASP.NET 2.0/SQL 2005 web developer, and I have run into a huge frustration for some time now that I can't seem to get past. My goal is to develop SQL databases for my costomers on my development machine, and then upload the completed database out to my host. I have not found a host that allows this yet. Some hosts do not allow remote SQL connections altogether, and the best hosts I have been able to find allow remote SQL connections, but do not allow SSIS or DTS packages to run to transfer database objects to the production server.
What does this mean? Well, I have to manually transfer or recreate individual stored procedures and recreate primary, foreign, and other table constraints. I cannot just run a DTS package to transfer the completed objects. So this means duplicating effort, changes for mistakes, and more server downtime during site upgrades. I have called so many host providers, and I haven't found one that can get me past this.
Also, I contacted Microsoft to ask about Licensing (thinking I would just lease a dedicated server), and the only option I can use is SPLA licensing. The catch, I have to lease the OS through SPLA as well, and all the hosts I have contacted put the OS on the server themselves. This means I would be paying for the OS twice.
Ideally, I would just love to find a shared web host package that I could use efficiently with my SQL development. Am I missing something? If anyone has any advice, please help! I would be so appreciative!!! Thanks.

I would really appreciate if you guys can help me with this one.
I have a 2-node cluster Windows Server 2003 32bit --> SQL Server 2005.
Please see the attached screenshots...
I have screen shots of the issue, but i am not able to get them into this post. I'll be happy to e-mail any of you.
Basically, I am not able to Upload files to the website. Whenever I go to the http://<server>/reports click "upload file" ... When I find a testfile that I want to upload, and click "Ok" on the UPLOAD file page, nothing happens.
I'm having my website hosted with webhost4life.com which is very helpful and a really great company if you are using Visual Web Developer with SQL Express. The question I have for anyone who can help me is that my site will offer member roles for customer account maintenance with login and the works. As you know, when you use memberships with Visual Web Developer, it associates all these controls with a database called aspnetdb.mdf. And you maintain this database through the asp.net configuration control. Once this database is launched, I've learned how to access it by changing my web.config file removing the LocalSQLServer and adding one with the connection string to the aspnetdb.mdf database on the server. My question is, once I've done this and connected through that string, can I still use the asp.net configuration to edit the database (e.g. the users, roles, etc)?
I've started with the development of a website which will use a sql server 2005 database. I want to use the asp.net membership and roles functionality. In the end the website will be hosted by a hosting company. What is the best way to store the database? In the App_data folder or outstide the App_data folder? Second, do hosting companies support placing sql server databases stored into the App_data folder?

I lost my database on my pc as I format my hard drive. Now, how I can get a copy of my ms sql server database from my hosting to work with my local pc? I need to have a local copy so that I can develop my site without internet connection. For your information, I used Hostforlife.eu hosting service. I have searched and tried many methods to do it, but no luck yet. For example, I created a backup on Hostforlife.eu and restore backup file on my pc, but nothing happens. Then I created a new database, and re-created its structure same as the one on Hostforlife, then I used the import wizard to import data from them to my pc. Again, nothing happens.
Since VWD Express doesn't support Publish Website, I used 'Copy Website' to deploy my local site to the hosting server. The static page works fine, but when it gets to accessing database, I kept getting the following error: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file I:DataWebdnh.sklingling_15726c71-b2bf-479f-bcc3-b7ae43318f3cwwwApp_DataPersonal.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. Anyone has the same experience? How to resolve this? Thanks,
Hi all, plz help... I have an asp.net login control on my website; my users are stored in a SQL DB; The problem is when I back-up my DB from my PC and restore it to my server; the logins doesn't work anymore. I am rewritting our DTS that upload tables in FoxPro to SQL Server using SSIS. I am finding the that SSIS is way slower. My uploads using DTS take just 7 minutes where doing the same thing in SSIS is taking 1 hour 15 minutes.
I have a SQL .bak generated by our existing hosting package at 1and1.com, I want to import that SQL .bak to our new hosting package at ixwebhosting.com.
ixwebhosting.com don't have a import feature in their control panel.
I have to maintain the SQL at ixwebhosting.com using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express since they don't have that feature in their cp. I don't see any import features in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express either.
How can I import it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express or another free GUI program?
I have a company table and a address table. I have created a linked table with two foreign keys from the company table and the address table respectively.
This set up allows me to apply more than one address per company which is fine. My problem is that I need a way to prevent a company from entering exactly the same address twice.
In the address table i have the following fields:
AddressKey - PK CompanyKey - FK Address 1 - 3 Town County Country PostCode
In the company table I have the following fields.
CompanyKey - PK FirstName Secondname
And finally in the link table I have the following:
CompanyKey - FK AddressKey - FK.
Now, if i entered the following into the address table Assuming that company id of 1 was already entered into the company table.
Dear All,How to store a separated company-calendar for each client-company (about500).Company-calendar: workingdays, non-workingdays, meetings, etc.Thanks,Filips
We deal with multiple vendors who provide us information via text/xml files. Vendor A may provide financial data, vendor b provides litigation data, vendor c provides ratings data. Our current structure has databases for each vendor with its own company table which basically makes all this data disconnected. Of course each vendor has its own proprietary company id to make records unique.
All of the data is based on companies so the grain of data would be at a company level. I would like to be able to link this information together by creating a dimensional model that has a single company table (DimCompany) and has facts populated based on the type of data we receive. Would this be the right sequence of events?
1. My initial load (historical) would have to look at all these data sources and create one company record in my DimCompany table. This table would then link to all other fact tables to provide a single view of company info. I would imagine this would have to be a fuzzy lookup since one company will be in all sources.
2. On subsequent loads (incremental) I would probably have to do a lookup of companies in the dimension via the proprietary code and add if the company wasn't there.
Any advice on tackling this issue would be greatly appreciated especially if SSIS was used in the process.
I have a database that allows a client to have multiple addresses, could be a home, business, vacation, etc... I'm trying to deside if I should put the Company Name and Title fileds in the tblClientAddresses table or keep it with the tblClient table. We do mailings to clients and if the mail is going to a home address the company and title should be excluded. If I put them in the tblClients table I really have no way of knowing if we are mailing to a home or a company. If i put the company and title with the address it makes sence that this would solve the issue.
Are there any forseeable problems with only moving one of my company's departments SQL database server to sp2 and leaving the others on sp1? From an admin tools perspective? Our internet groupd would like to move on to sp3 and the others would like to wait?
My Name is Nick Soutter, I am the owner of a small game company, Aepox Games(We're in the middle of a name change from "Lamar Games"),www.lamargames.net.Our first commercial game, Andromeda Online (www.andromedaonline.net) isgoing into beta soon. It runs on an evaluation edition of SQL Server 2000(our intention is, when it launches, we earn the money to buy a copy beforethe evaluation expires). We have been testing Andromeda Online, and found that saves to the databasetake about 10 seconds (we were anticipating less than 1). We felt we needsomebody experienced in optimizing sql databases to help us optimize thedatabase, and get it running in the best method for our particularapplication. Our program accesses the database in Java, and people with understanding inhow to optimize java connections would be a tremendous help.My company is small, and we honestly cant afford much. Everybody on thisproject, from the sound guys to the graphic artist, has worked for 1/10 to1/100 of the value of the job. We're simply a starting company looking fordedicated people who are willing to work more for credit than money. We can offer credit on our website(http://www.andromedaonline.net/credits.html) to anybody who helps us, butlittle more (maybe $100, but we're very over budget, and in desperate needof help). Because of how we intend the game to run (with maybe 100-200concurrent games running online), a 10 second save time is simplyunacceptable.Anybody who would be willing to help us, please send a resume toJoin Bytes!. Experience would be nice, but not a requirement. We're looking for someone who can talk with our programmer about the typesof calls made to our SQL database, and then can log into the DB and optimizeit to run as fast as possible considering our specific needs.Thank you for your time.Nick SoutterAepox (Lamar) Games
I plan to use Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition create web application which access SQL database(Express Edition). Is there any license require for this 2 software if I use its in company? Please provide information to me. Thank you!
I am not seeing the problem with this. I have a button at the bottom of this form that does this... protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlDataSource1.Insert(); } And the SqlDataSource code...<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:calldbConnectionString2 %>"
I would like to handover a SQL server 2005 database that I've been using for testing/development to a client for use in a production environment. Besides deleting my test records from the database and making a copy of the MDF file, do I have to handover the datase's LDF file too? I guess I should also compress the database before providing a copy. Please advise of "gotchas" I should be a aware of. Also, I guess the client's IT group would need to run my "create user" script first before mounting the database, since the created user is the owner of the database.
I've looked around, but can't find this anywhere. Does anyone know of a way to add a footer to all reports (including new ones being created via report builder)? So that when users create new reports, the global footer is there.
