Weird Margin WhiteSpace

I am hoping there is an easy way to fix this. I have a report defined 8.5" x 11.0" with .5" Margin's all around. I am using the WinForms Report Viewer Control (doing Server side reports). It looks like the viewer is taking the left margin and adding it to the right margin. So you get large amounts of white space on the right of the viewer. This requires me to make the viewer way larger than it needs to be to get rid of the ugly Horizontal Scroll bar.
What I want is either don't show the margins until you print (removing the margins from the RDLC file does nothing), or have the left margin white space belong on the left side.
Why is this happening? And how can I fix it? Thanks!

When working on this report on my local machine, the left and right margins are set to .25. The fields and fieldheaders were not wrapping. After I deploy it, the margins are increased or the tables are resized and this causes the fields and field headers to wrap.
What could be causing this. Is it Setting on the server?

When running a SSRS 2005 Report on local machines (running Windows XP) A certain Textbox Label is not wrapping and is sized with .25 inch blank spacing at the end of the text. When running thru a datadriven Subscription this label is wrapping to next line on the PDF file that is produced.
We went to the SSRS 2005 server( Windows server 2003) and opened the report and it shows this label wrapping and the text is not fitting in the label box. But on every client box that we open this report on it shows it not wrapping. Is there a setting on the Server that we need to set for this report to render correctly.

Hi,
I have a report which includes a subreport. I would like to position them in a vertical position so that they like like just one report.
I have placed them within a rectangle but there is still quite a vertical distance between them and I cannot find any margin properities to fix this.
Would appreciate any hints,tip & advice.

Hello.
I have a report but by default it prints Portrait and 1.0inch Margin. I would like to programmatically set the values of my report to 0.2 inch margin and Landscape. I am using RDLC (Local Report).
Does anyone has an idea how to achieve this?

A problem has cropped up where my reports that I set with a .5 inch margin (all around) for an 8.5x11 layout are shifting the left margin by .25 to .75 in leaving a .25 inch margin on the right. This happends using mutiple reports printed to variuos printers on mutiple machines. I'm fairly certain that at one point the margins were beging honored. I found the following link that addresses this problem and claims visual studio 2005 sp1 fixed it.

I'm also having another problem in report designer when I use the previewer. I need to tell it to print twice before it prints. This also was supposed to be fixed on SP1.
I've check visual studio and it does state that it has SP1 installed. Any thoughts?

I'm having a relatively big issue with printing my check report. The report continues, time after time, and regardless of the margins I choose for the report, to be displaced an additional 1" up from the bottom of the page. The printing method is through our newly designed application which sends the emf rendering to the printer. We have gone through the liberty of modifying the actual print document in VB with margins set at 0,0,0,0 (L, R, T, B) and have paid close attention to the printer's maximum printing area. We have come to the conclusion that the problem is coming from reporting services. In addition to the extra margin space on the bottom of the page, there is also a slight yet noticeable shrinking of the page. Despite the fact that those are trade symptoms of another issue after the emf rendering we have modified every possible function of the printdocument and printer settings. So we continue to push the question, is this reporting services? We are fairly certain. I'm asssuming this is a bug in SSRS 2005, yet, I have yet to hear of any similiar case. This is our VS version info just incase:

We have made a small break-through discovery. We found that that if we convert our report using a pdf rendering that the additional 1 inch added to the bottom margin is no longer there. So, pdf rendering would be an option if we became more desperate. However, this is too time consuming and we would much rather have the report directly sent to the print spooler instead of loading then spooling. Does anybody know what is going on with this apparent conflict between SSRS 2005 and our emf renderer?

I need to calculate “NET_SALES” and “MARGIN_PERCENT” for each month of the current year … the following returns the same values for each month in the list, which are for the current month. Taking out the GROUP BY line works fine for an overall number.

I am currently working on a rather simple report, it cosists of a table with two columns
The first column contains Employee Names, and the second column contials details of what the have worked on
I have made the second column invisible, and can be made visible when the eployee name column is expanded.
The problem that i am having is that when the second column is collapesed, it still leaves whitespace, in the first column, of how ever many rows that are contained in the second column, is there a way, I can get rid of that whitespace?

Hello All,
I am having a problem with whitespace showing up within a table. I have a grouping by date that toggles the fields correctly but when the fields are not expanded, the space where the data would be is showing as whitespace instead of collapsing up. Can anyone shed some light on how to make the whitespace go away?

Hi,
I have a report that, among other things, contains 3 tables laid out side-by-side horizontally. The first table is conditionally visible and when it is hidden the report contains whitespace instead of the table. The problem is that this causes an unappealing visual look because the other 2 tables look shifted too much to the right.
What is the recommended way for dealing with situations like this? There doesn't seem to be support for specifying the location (i.e. top, left) of elements based on expressions. Am I "stuck" with having to create multiple flavors of the report?

I have a OLE DB Source going to a flat file destination. My source is a sql variable with "select * from tablename" which have varchar datatypes. Yet I'm getting trailing spaces at the end of some of my columns (for instance, my address column).
I've checked the data by doing a "select Max(Len(address)) from tablename" and the max is only like 34 chars, yet each of them have 100 chars total.
Taking a look at my flat file connection, the outputColumnWidth is 100, and datatype is string [DT_STR]. Am I crazy? What's the problem here? Is the DT_STR datatype the equivalent of char, and not varchar?
Any help, of course, will be appreciated.

I'm trying to figure out how to find the last whitespace character in avarchar string. To complicate things, it's not just spaces that I'mlooking for, but certain ascii characters (otherwise, obviously, justuse LEN). My initial thought was to REVERSE it, find the location(using CHARINDEX) looking for each of those characters (so, multiplequeries), then subtract that from the LEN of the string.The problem I'm running into is that there are about a dozen differentcharacters we're looking for. Any suggestions? My thought was to(this sounds silly, so there's gotta be a better way) dump the resultsfrom each CHARINDEX into a table, then find the MAX of the table anduse that. But, like I said, it sounds silly. I don't think I can do a[^0-9A-Z] either, since there are non-Alphanumeric characters we'relooking for.Many thanks.

Hi,I am trying to concoct a query that will join rows on the basis of awhitespace insensitive comparison. For instance if one row has the value'a<space>b' and another has the value 'a<space><space>b' I want them to beconsidered equal (but not the same as 'ab')I am happy to do some T-SQL if that helps. I am having an problem with using full-text search and phrases in ASP.NET 2.0 when populating a treeview.
I have a stored procedure that searches a full text index and brings back the results in a datareader. It fails when I try to search for more than one word with a space in between.
I get the error SQLException was unhandled by usercode "Syntax error near 'up'' in the full-text search condition ''item up''."
The stored proc is as follows:

Hi,
I have a need to create a report that has a graph at the top and a table at the bottom. The graph at the top can optionally be made hidden because they cause problems when exported to Excel as images. However, when I set the Hidden property of the graph to true, positions of all items on the report remain absolute. Meaning of course that the table that is located half-way down the page remains half-way down the page and there is a lot of nothing on the first half where the graph used to be.
It would be desirable to have the ability to have the table move up when the graph is not visible, however it obviously doesn't do it automatically and also refuses me the ability to change the position with an expression.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

I know that this almost never happens... but Im dealing with an AIX flatfile-database conversion that brings 80 tables into SQL. Im not allowed to touch this stuff or to massage how its brought over to SQL, as it deals with medical records...
What I need to do though, is on creating my own table imports, for my "account" fields to match with the existing SQL conversion table "account" fields, I have to match requirements...
Existing account numbers are a total of 6 charaters. Account numbers with less than six characters contain leading whitespace character equivalents to total the six character spaces for "account number"
When I import records, I need to force the same requirement and have a min and max length of characters for "account number" = 6 characters and any account number less than 6 characters must also have the necessary whitespace character equivalent added to it.
How would I do this? It needs to be automated, as this is a process that will run nightly and cannot have a human sitting on it every day, 7 days a week... I cannot accurately join unless I can meet this requirement and my hands are tied because I can't change the way the formatting is done on the imported tables =(
Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm quite stuck

I'd like to call dtexec with something like this:

I get an error along the lines of
Option "Source=localhost;Provider=blah;Integrated" is not valid".
How do I pass in a property containing spaces? I've tried all of the usual quote-encasing patterns I can think of.

I am facing whitespace issue in my SSRS report. I have simple tablix report with 10 columns. I am trying to toggle column 5 to 8 using on column 4. The problem I am facing is the whitespace. Now column 5 to 8 are only visible when we expand column 4. When the report is rendered on the screen, there is a huge gap between column 4 and 9.

I'm trying to suppress whitespace in a drilldown for textboxes that have suppress duplicates applied.
I have a matrix report that is showing whitespace in a drilldown because I am supressing duplicates. Based on what I read in other forums, if I set the ToggleItem to Len(FieldName)=0 that should supress the whitespace, right?
I can see that I have a field in the toggleitem called: Firstname. If I put the value Len(Firstname)=0 in the toggleitem property, then I get the error: The textbox 'textbox21' has Len(Firstname)=0' as a toggle item. Toggle items must be text boxes that share the same scope as the hidden item. I think the code 'Len' is throwing it off.
If I put the value "Firstname" in the toggleitem property, then it doesn't return the error, so I know that firstname is a valid value for toggleitem, but setting the value to firstname doesn't suppress anything.
If someone can tell me how to supress a textbox based on a value, then this may get rid of the whitespace I'm trying to suppress. Any ideas? Thanks...

I am working on a report that has 3 bars per series. I would like to add some gapping or whitespace between each bar in each series. Also how do you deal with overlapping. I know it can be done in Excel, I can't find the property of how to do it in SSRS. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a databound textbox that is used to store a decimal value.
If my sql table stores this column as a decimal(2,2), then all of the numbers entered into the field will automatically put decimal places in that I don't want. For example, 45 becomes 45.00... 34.5 becomes 34.50.
If I set the sql table to nchar(10) and the dataset to system.string (max length of -1), then the number looks the way I would like it, however after a datatable update I end up with trailing whitespace after the number - filling up the rest of the unused 10 characters. For example, "45" becomes "45 " (8 spaces afterwards).
Does anybody know how I can fix this? I would prefer to store the numbers in SQL as a string (nchar(10))... but I don't know how to get rid of that darned whitespace. I would like to remove it at the database level and not at the client level if at all possible.

I have a dts package that is mysteriously changing back to a previously saved version. Package is saved, and re-opened with saved changes, then moments later opened again to have been reverted back to an older version. Has anyone ran into this before?
The only thing that I can think of is that if a version of the package is left open on some other machine (as the older version0, it may be auto-saving, and reverting back.

I run a website, so all of this is done remotely, I do not have access to the servers directly.
On my prior host, everything on the DB worked just fine. Had it optimized and running pretty good for the site by adding indexes, etc.
Then I moved to my new faster server (new host) and at first everything seemed to be just fine. However, some users started complaining about speed in spots.
Sure enough when I checked a given page -- WHAM... the page took about 14 seconds to load. Not exactly fast. :)
So I checked to make sure the indexes copied over and sure enough they did. But it was still slow, even in Query Analyzer/MSE.
So I decided to rerun my view script... on a lark... just to see if that affected something. And sure enough it did. The page started running at 1 second or less. OK, I thought, the view just got corrupted or something.
All was fine until the next night when it happened again. I had added 12 new rows to the table (I do this nightly) and it seemed that adding the new rows slowed down the system. Until the view was rebuilt. With that done again, it's worked fine.
But each night now I have to rerun that view.
What gives??? Is there a DB setting or something causing views/indexes to not be maintained?
The prior server was 2000 or 2003. The new one is 2005.
Again, I cannot get access to the box itself except through Management Studio. The host's tech support group is less than useless, treating everyone as incompetent before they help you.
Any hints or solutions would be a big help!

I'm trying to CAST an integer to a varchar and I keep getting e+006 in my result set. The reason I need to do this is so that I can combine 2 columns to return a string.
Here is my table:
incomeBracket | lowIncome(int) | highIncome(int)

Here is my query:
SELECT CAST(incomeLow AS varchar) + ' - ' + CAST(incomeHigh AS varchar) AS incomeRange
FROM IncomeBracket_Currency
How can I get my result to look like this:
1000001 - 5000000
5000001 - 10000000
Instead of what it is returning now:
1e+006 - 5e+006
5e+006 - 1e+007
The query works fine for values that have a character length of 6 and less.

I was developing a data-driven website but I got this error

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
(I have Sql server 2005 also downloaded before)
Please help me cause any website that has data can not be executed even the quick start tutorial that ships with the ASP.NET 2.0

Hello and thanks for taking a moment to read this message.I have two colums from which I am taking values. One of which(a bit field), i am running a CASE statement against it to get SQL Server to return a string. The other is just a simple varchar column. My SELECT statement for the columns look like this:
SELECT Case tblDisplayProfile.Approved When 0 then 'Not Approved' when 1 then 'Approved' else 'Not looked at' END AS Approved, tblDisplayProfile.DisplayProfileDesc
These statements do return me something. Now what I want to do is combine (concantenate) the two fields. This is where I have problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why does ado.net produce this error when I kow for a fact that there are no connections to any sql server 2005 database involved - this could and probbaly has had people off looking at the wrong connection strings in their web.configs.
Note:- The connection string we have is to a sql 200 db I just wanted to make that clear.

Hi, I moved a SQL 2000 DB to a SQL 2005 server. When I run my .NET 1.1 or 3.5 website to call a stored procedure it returns the wrong results.The SQL stored proc runs fine when I excute it within SQL Manager but gives a different result when called via .NET The funny thing is I have 3 SQL servers 2000 , 2005 , and another 2005. The same data on each of the databases and the same website. Two of the databases work but the second 2005 database my production server decrements the dates some how. The funny thing is the stroed proc is not returning dates as such but a varchar of the name of the day that's getting decremented. My stored proc is SELECT
Case datepart(dw, DT_DATE)
When 2 Then 'Mon'
When 3 Then 'Tue'
When 4 Then 'Wed'
When 5 Then 'Thu'
When 6 Then 'Fri' End AS [WeekDay],
Sum(VL_HOURS) as Total
FROM ...
WHERE ....
GROUP BY datepart(dw, DT_DATE) and My c# .net code is "SqlHelper.ExecuteReader( connectionstring, storedproc, paramaeters);"using MS.ApplicationBlocksWhat happens that from sql, and 2 of my websites is when week day = 4 it returns "Wed" However on my Production server it returns "Tue" ???

i have a form which takes in a lot of input...one of them is a date field..am passing all the values to the stored proc and inserting into a table from there...pretty simple...however when the user does not enter any value in the field...its errors out as...
String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.
heres the code in asp.net
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@cusbday",SqlDbType.datetime))
myCommand.Parameters("@cusbday").Value = trim(bday.text)
the field is optional....in my stored proc i am setting a default value too
....@cusbday Datetime =NULL,...
i also xplicitly set it to null through code
if @cusbday is null set @cusbday=null
how else do i resolve this...

Hello!
MSSQL Server 7.0 SP1
When I open DTS designer for some unknown reason I'm getting error message "Could not create Component Categories manager".
Then under Task I don't have any choices.
Is there a quick way to fix it?
