What's The Difference Between The Application Developer Tools And Server Applications CD
Apr 19, 2007
I have 2 questions about Sql Server 2005.
1. I have 2 sets of CDs, one is called Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition, Applications Developer Tools, and another one called Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition Servers Server Applications.
I installed the Applications Developer Tools on my development pc, and I was able to use create and populate a database, and use Sql Server Management Studio fine. I wonders what 's the Servers Server Applications set of cds for.
2. I just like to install Sql Server 2005 on a test pc also. Can I use my Developer Edition Applications Developer Tools to install it ?
I am looking for the right tools to do application monitoring.I'm hoping to find one single tool that can do the entire job but ifit does not exist then a few monitoring apps would do as well.I need the ability to do the standard things like testing for ping, checking for windows services running and restarting them after somethreshold is met, and wmi. Some of the more tricky things I need it to do are:* Parse log files looking for specific error codes, and the ability toset an alert only if it sees that error X times over some period oftime.* Run custom slq queries like row counts and max values returned froma query and if that condition is met X times over some period oftime.* Run an external app that does its own custom testing and act on itsresults, which could be to parse the result file from the app.Keep in mind cost is not the isssue right now - so this can befreeware to some type of enterprise solution that our company can use.Does anyone know of any tools that you can point me towards?Thanks...
Ok so i am thinking of get the Microsoft SQL server 2000 Developer Edition, i have some questions. - Does it include the server and tools?- What tools does it include? The same as the Enterprise Version?- Will it positively work on Windows XP Pro?- Will you need to install anything else? Does it come with the Microsoft Server Desktop Edition as the server or something?- Will this version allow me to use it to make databases for websites? I searched this forums but i can seem to find what "....it is prohitbited in production..." that means?Thank you and i have tried to search the forums but have gotten no real answers Hope you can read my questions clearly. Thanks!!!!
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each attempt.
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0
I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET
I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.
Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?
Hi, I have Sql server 2005 Standard edition on my system and was wondering whats the difference between Standard edition and developer edition which one is better..most of the things that i do on sql server is write sprocs, create table etc... any ideas will be appreciated.. regards Karen
i have a database for an application, which has some particular fields in some table. i want to make sure that data update in those fields should be only thru the application, and no one (even dba) should be able to update data in those fields thru sql tools.
this is to make sure that no body is updating the field except the users thru the application. as these fields contain infor about "approval" of documents.
We are starting to work with SSIS in our production environment & due to support issues; we are trying to get rid of the "Package xxx started" log entries inside of the Windows Application Event Log...
So far, I have tried many different things, including setting the LoggingMode to "Disabled", as well as adding a new logging reference with a different destination... All of which still do not get rid of the extra log entries...
How to launch Oracle SQL Developer through "Run" window in windows as we can launch SQL Server Management studio through "Run" command line using command line "sqlwb -S localhost -d MyDB -U sa -P
Okay heres the problem I'm facing. I have GoDaddy as my hosting company. They only support MSSQL2000 but I just recently bought MSSQL2005 Developer Edition. And I was wondering what is the main difference between them two. I didn't find anything on Google. And the only thing is I can't find a better host. Cause I have 50GB of space and 500GB of bandwidth. And I don't want to lose that for just MSSQL2005 support cause my host doesn't/ Have that. So im stuck like chuck. Is there really any difference?
Login failed for user 'TOSHIBA-USERASPNET' I know that the file persmission for the web application have to include aspnet, so i keep resetting the folder permission for aspnet in file manager, but the login failed keeps coming back every day or two problem is after working with VS05 Pro, SQL Server Management Studio CTP, somehow the aspnet persmission get changed, use alot of sqldatasource wizards and often there is a conflict/hang between the datasource wizard and the need to have the mdf in a dettached state within VS server explorer, not sure but the procedure to fix this seems to be to reboot, detach and re-attach the mdf in the Sql server Studio tool, re-apply the aspnet file permission on the web app folders (wonder should i be doing this in IIS instead), make sure the mdf within server explorer is detached, the it works anyway, getting real tired of the resulting delays and design time derailment, clues greatly appreciated, thanks sometimes i can use View in Browser when in VS05 form view and i wont get the aspnet folder permission error and other times i do. last thing, is it a bad idea to give aspnet full permission for the entire web applicaiton??
There are conflicting postings everywhere about this. I built a small site using VWD and SQL Server Express, but need to convert to Sql Server 2005 Developer because the DB will exceed 4Gb. Tried to install and could not connect or use from VWD. Tried to uninstall, got into large mess with the byzantine uninstall process, and have now started with a clean machine.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer first, then installed VWD Express 2008 without installing SQL Server Express. VWD won't let me connect to an existing database, won't let me add a new database and doesn't even show the Database Tools option under the Tools menu.
Is there someone with specific knowledge that can provide any enlightenment? Would be much appreciated.
If there are 2 different web application connecting to a sql server database through ODBC connection, both of them have full privilege to update , create , add column etc. Would there any issues of SQL server impacts when actually on live.
I am running SQL Server 2005 Dev x86 with SSRS SP1 on Windows2003 Svr SP1.
My SQL Server is running and SSRS is working. When I come to run certain installs though, my Server name is not present in the dropdowns or in the browse for installed server lists.
I entered the name of my SQL server manually, but when I ran the application, it gave me an error: 00250 unable to run dtabase locator service.
Our company wants to run web based application in folowing way.
Browser --> WebServer -->Sql Server
Sql server is part part of corporation domain and has about 25 more databases
Should we dedicate extra SQL server to run Web apps , or it would be safe to run web apps on corporation Sql Server? or If any one can point on links on this subject?. Thank you
Hi All,During the past couple of years I have been maintaining the company'sAccess databases, in the coming weeks I will be migrating data to SQLserver, I will be using the Access forms as a frontend to access datawhile we developed a new front end through VB.Net.I was wondering if anyone will recommend an application that makes anexact replica or backup of the SQL server in the case the SQL serverfails. With MS Access, if a record is corrupted we needed to go backto the previous day backup of the database, we cant afford to havethis issue any longer.Regards,John
Can someone here confirm or deny that Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition doesn't work with SQL Server Developer Edition 2005?
I was about to order SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 on Amazon, to use with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, when I read a user comment that the two are incompatible with each other. Does anyone know for sure if that is true?
What I'm wanting to do is develop an ASP.NET web application on a web host using a SQL Server database. I use VS2003 and SQL Server Enterprise 2000 at work, but I'd like to learn the 2005 editions for this side project. I don't own any of the developer tools/IDEs personally, so I'm trying to find the most affordable way to do this for my home business.
Good morning,After long hours of search on the subject, I could not find a clear answer to my question.I understand what are ths physical limit fo the express version (1Gb or Ram, 4Gb database, 64 bit WOW).My configuration is as follow, windows webserver 64bit, I have 4 database of 10Mb each for 4 web-application. The maximum concurent connection is a total fo about 8 for all the web-application together. Therefore due to the cost of buying a workgroup of standard license, I was hoping to be able to use the express edition. Please let me know your thought.ThanksArno
Does anyone know if two different database belong to two different applications stay in the same physical SQL server 7.0 with one server license would affect their performance?
Would the performance be better off if each database stored in different physical SQL Server 7.0 with different server license?
Is it ok to use SQL Server 2005 CE as an embedded DBMS inside a desktop (Windows XP / w2k3 / Vista) application?
The whitepaper available here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/4/7/A47B7B0E-976D-4F49-B15D-F02ADE638EBE/Compact_Express_Comparison.doc describes this as one of the primary usages of the product. However, I've seen information elsewhere on this forum that seems to imply that SQL Server 2005 CE is not allowed in desktop applications.
Can you please clarify this, and specify any limitations of this usage?
Also, the whitepaper refers to an online redistribution agreement that needs to be signed in order to freely redistribute SQL Server 2005 CE inside a commercial application. Can you please point to this agreement?
Can I develop applications with SQL Server Express that I have more than one user in several computers working with the same database on a server, or I can only develop applications with only one user with a local database with SQL Server Express?
When I registered SQL Server Express I received an e-mail back showing all of the resources available to get started. There were 6 Starter Kits available, Teacher, Colection Manager, Amazon Enabled Movie Collection, and three others. When I click on the links to download the Starter Kits, the link comes back as invalid. Can you provide the correct links to use to get the Starter Applications, or can you e-mail me code? Thanks for you attention to this matter. Charlie Cappello CIGNA
We want to install 2 applications that run on SQL server 2005 but the requirement of database installation are different Collation setting ( One require Dictionary order, case-insensitive, for use with 1252 Character Set and other require Dictionary order, case-sensitive, for use with the 437 (US English) Character set). So the question here could I install both two applications successfully on same platform ? and if yes how?
Hi, Is it advisable to use full text search on asp.net live applications? Will live database servers allow full text search?. If so what are the problems we could face in future. My DB server is SQL Server2000 and ASP version is 1.1. Thanks in advance Hamlin Stephen

Hello all. I'm giving serious thought on changing gears withing the IT world. For several years I have been a software developer who has been fortunate enough to have been involved in the needed databases. From just sketching out tables for the DBA to doing the database from the ground up and maintaining it during production. Along the way I've known that I didn't do as quality of a job as a knowledgeable DBA would do but given the situations I made do just fine.
I am considering switching gears to the database side only, coding as secondary. Since I am basically familier with most aspects of SQL Server in a general way, I am looking to take that knowledge and become a "Professional". What I am looking for is a few books to help out. Maybe a "Become a DBA for Software Developers" or something. I know that mining these and other forums are very valuble but I'd like some other training materials as well.
Have I been clear enough on what I am looking for? I don't quite feel like I have.
Basically, what would you recommend for a good software developer who is looking on switching to becoming a good database person?
I'd like to stay in SQL Server for now, since that is what they use here and it would give me an opportunity to practice.
Also, do you see value in the studying process for certifications in this area?
I can't tell if the SQL Developer install upgraded the service, but left the SqlExpress version information, or if I'm still really only using SqlExpress.
Also, my intended target is SQL Enterprise, so if I am using SQL Express am I asking for trouble when I go to move the database over? Are the database formats compatible?
I've poked around trying to search for this answer for a while and haven't turned anything up. Maybe I'm searching on the wrong terms...
