I would like for our marketing guy to be able to editthe email templates over the web so that I don't have to keep updatingthem myself for every little change. I want to store the templateswithin the database (since they will be small). The templates will beHTML based and not more than a few thousand bytes in length. Should Iuse a VARCHAR or VARBINARY, or what? I would assume VARCHAR, but I'mnot sure.Thanks,Will

My question is should I store this in the database as a date/time field or calculate total seconds and store it as an integer field? I will be using this field for basic summing calculations in the future. Thanks for any help.

Client Found Response Content Type Of 'text/html; Charset=utf-8', But Expected 'text/xml'.

Hi,

I am getting these errors from Report Manager. It seems that every time after the server has been idling for about 15 minutes, I would get this error message. I can click on other links and I am able to continue to use Report Manager.

Is there a timeout setting to help me resolve this or is this a bug with Report Manager? I just insitalled SP2 on the SQL Server and the Reporting Service.

Which Is Better? Storing Data In The Database OR Storing It In The File System

Dec 29, 2006

Hello there,I just want to ask if storing data in dbase is much better than storing it in the file system? Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?

Numeric Datatype To Ssis Variable Datatype Conversion Problem

Apr 24, 2008

Good afternoon,

I have an issue with an ssis variable datatype.

The scenario is as follows:

I have a stored procedure:

PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_newTransaction]

@sourceSystem varchar(50),

@txOut NUMERIC(18,0) OUTPUT

AS

insert into scn_transaction (sourceSystemName) values(@sourceSystem);

SELECT @txOut = @@identity

Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).

I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:

exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?

The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:

User:ystxId output numeric 1 -1
User:ourceSys input varchar 0 -1

The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.

At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.

I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.

Thanks much,

B

SQL Vs XML Page Content

I want to create the most effective way (google) to have content displayed on a web page.
Currently, we are updating to SQL and populating to web via calling SQL statements hardcoded to page.  I want to know if this is ok to do, or should we be reading from a static XML file that is updated?
 I think the XML is the way to go being that i may have answered my own question, but i was curious to what the experts on asp.net had to say.

How To Store A Content Into Database

It stores into the database as "Hello, Mike" and if I read from the database, it does not have seperate lines and shows it like this;

How To Modify Xml Content In SQL 2000

Jan 14, 2008

HiI have developed a sql procedure for updating some xml content using SQL 2005 xQuery features.For example:Declare @xmlContent = '<books><book name="asp"/>< book name = "sql"/></books>'--Now I want to add attribute "book_id" to the xml content.SET @xmlContent.modify('insert attribute book_id{"1" } into (/books/book[@name="asp"])[1] ')SET @xmlContent.modify('insert attribute book_id{"2" } into (/books/book[@name="sql"])[1] ')SELECT @xmlContent--OUTPUT will be<books><book name="asp" book_id="1"/><book name="sql" book_id="2"/></books>QUESTIONQ1. Do we have any extension or plugin such that this SQl 2005 xquery feature can be incorporated in SQL 2000?Q2. If the answer for Q1. is no (as I expect), then do we have any TSQL feature in SQL 2000 for modifying xml content?I found all examples in SQl 2000 related with "openxml" function which performs the select kind of operations only. Like selecting data in XML format OR converting xml data in to tabular format. But I couldn't find any xml modification TSQL in SQl 2000 which can add element/attributes or change values.one workaround could be to consider xml content as string and use string functions to modify the content.But is there any more sensible approach available in SQL 2000?

SQL Server As Content Store

Okay, moving to developing a small site that will be storing articles - that is a site largely consisting of html marked up articles with images. We already have an SQL Server so it is becoming the back-end.

So, since I'm not an SQL Server expert, some general advice on this would be appreciated? The articles, as I say in HTML (largely just markup for titles, and general text) would be stored in the DB? As Text datatypes?

How about the images...on disk or in SQL?
