What Encryption (eg AES128) Standards Are Supported For SQL Server Compact 3.5 On WM5 And WM6?
Apr 15, 2008
I was told that AES 128/SHA1 is supported for SQL Server Compact 3.5. The problem is that I couldn't find any product literature from Microsoft that specifies exactly that and my client wants us to provide proof on that.
I hope to get the endorsement from the forum here, and it would be great if someone could point me to some Microsoft resources that specifies the support clearly.
I know that it is possible to encrypt data fields in SQL Server 2005, but I can't find anything about data encryption in the Compact Edition. Is this possible?
The error in the subject line "The property 'Use Encryption for Data' is not supported" is encountered when running a DTS package via a job step in SQL Server 7.0. The problem is not encountered when executing the DTS package interactively via Enterprise Manager from my PC. When I view the Advanced Properties of the OLE DB driver from Enterprise Manager on my PC, I notice a Use Encryption for Data Property. When I view the Advanced Properties of the OLE DB driver from Enterprise Manager on the Server, the Use Encryption for Data Property does not appear. Service Pack 3 for SQL 7.0 is installed on both my PC and on the SQL Server. I suspect this Property difference for OLE DB could be related to the fact that I installed Enterprise Manager for SQL 2000 on my PC at one time and then uninstalled. Any ideas how to correct this situation?
On Windows XP systems I get the following issue when trying to browse the MSDB folder in SSIS
Client unable to establish connection Encryption not supported on SQL Server. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
I have noticed another post where several others have noticed the same issue. It appears to only occur on Windows XP installations. Is there a workaround or fix for this?
Using SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, when I try to create a new OLEDB connection manager and I try to connect to the SQL 2005 DB, I get an error message saying that "Client is unable to establish connection Encryption not supported on the client"
This is ONLY in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio!
If I connect to the same server using SQL Server Management Studio and using server type Integration Services, everything works just fine.
However this way I cannot create a working SSIS package from the client, if not working locally on the server, which is a bit nonsense.
I have tried reinstalling the sqlncl.msi - re-booting etc without success.
I'm on windows vista beta 2 build 5384.
Brand spanking new machine (less that 48 hrs old) and I can't beleive my bad luck with sql express. My xp pro machine works fine.

Can anyone advise. I'm willing to take a "you'll have to re-build your machine" response if I have to. But I just need to know if this really is required.
In the info for SQL Compact Edition 3.5 it states that one of the features is:
Support for newer and more secure encryption algorithms.
I can't seem to find details of exactly what these new, more secure algorithms are. It appears 3.1 used 128-bit RSA. Is this the same in 3.5, or has this changed?
I currently have SQL2005 Std, using 2 separate domain accounts for both SQL server and SQL agent. When accessing the MSDB stored packages folder from mgmt studio, I get the following error:
Client unable to establish connection. Encryption not supported on SQL server.
I did google for this error, but have tried all suggestions, including updating the MsDtsSvr.ini.xml file with the servername. I am using a default instance.
Also, I am only able to access the MSDB folder if I set the SQL service account to the local admin account. I have also set the SQL service account to be part of the local admins group, but without any luck.

I have SQL2000 installed as the default instance, and now I'm trying to install SQL 2005 standard edition as a named instance.
I receive this error : SQL Server could not connect to database service for server configuration.. [SQL Native client] Encryption not supported on the client. However I'm able to install client tools
The setup works fine on other box with the same config : SQL 2000/Windows XP, is there any work around for this issue ?
In my SQL 2000 client network utilty "Force proctocol encryption " is desabled and did not find the setting for SQL 2005 !
Are there common naming standards for SQL tables and stored procedures? I'm creating a table for target audiences and was going to set it up like this:
This table is really straight forward, but let me know if you would change anything. I want to use all of the most common naming standards throughout my database.
I have an application that stores xml data in an unusal manor. Basically a SQL Key column and an XML string.The XML string is not really standard XML, but it is what it is, and I'm stuck with it. It is in the format;
<row key="Value.01" xml:space="preserve"><c1>FirstName</c1><c2>LastName</c2><c3>10 Street Address, City ST 012345-1234</c3><c4>5</c4><c5>50</c5><c6>500</c6></row>
I am able to pull values out via SELECT p.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') AS c1, p.value('(./c2)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') AS c2 FROM dbo.UserXMLTable CROSS APPLY XMLRECORD.nodes('/row') t(p) where p.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') like 'First%'
However I've been struggling with selecting row with a LIKE clause. Something like ;
SELECT * FROM dbo.F_UserXMLTable where XMLRECORD.value('(./c1)[1]', 'VARCHAR(8000)') like 'First%'
I have tried a number of permutations of XML syntax but so far have been stumpled.
Please note "<row key="Value.01" xml:space="preserve">" has a <SP> in the name 'row key' .
End Sub this code worked well. we know sql7 is not compatiable with vista. please tell us how to connect it wiith sql2005 . we downloaded orcas express edition beta. we created a database also. please let u know how to connect with Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 (.NET Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5).
we've got a SQL Server 2005 which replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.5. Every 10 to 20 synchronisations we're getting the error mentioned above. A Soft reset of the device helps to make the synchronization working again.
Why is this error happening and how can we resolve this?
BTW, we've also running system that replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.0 without having this problems.
everything is ok for first run. but i leave the program relogin than that error occured ppc2003 second edition devices. Windows mobile 5.0 device works fine. can anybody help me?

End Try ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i added the following code to very beginning of my code too. that code lock my device
Declare Function LoadLibrary Lib "coredll" Alias "LoadLibrary" (ByVal lpLibFileName As String) As IntPtr
I have created two user defined functions for encryption and decryption using passphrase mechanism. When I call encryption function, each time I am getting the different values for the same input. While I searching a particular value, it takes long time to retrieve due to calling decryption function for each row.
best way to encrypt and decrypt using user defined functions.Below is the query which is taking long time.
SELECT ID FROM table WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE dbo.DecodeFunction(column) = 'value'
When I try to use symetric or asymetric encryption, I am not able to put "OPEN SYMETRIC KEY" code in a function. So, I am using PassPhrase mechanism.
I am writing an client application that will be connected to data source. However, I do not know what the data source will be (could be mySQL, SQL Server Express, MS Access, ODBC, etc). I would like to write my data access queries using a standard that will be accepted by various data sources. What is such standard and where can I read more about it?
I would like to create a new database and follow some standard. I am hoping that there is some ANSI documentation or Microsoft documentation on a NAMING standard when creating objects in the database.i.e Table name "tblEmployees" Column name "txtLastName" Is there any GOOD documentation on creating a database using a PROVEN, and ACCEPTED standard?
Are there any sql commenting standards, for example some programming languages have commenting standards like Javadoc in Java, etc. Just wondering if there is any standard for TSQL comments? thanks
I was wondering if there are generally accpeted naming standards for SQL Server ojbects (tables, store procedeures, triggers, views etc.) that might be available somewhere on the WEB. I was also wondering if most DBA`s prefix the object names like "sp_" or suffix the object like "Customer_T"? Any opinions?
Can anyone help me translate this statement from using the legacyouter joins to the SQL-92 standards?Select CA.* From Customer C, Shipper S, Customer_Order CO,Cust_Address CA Where CA.Customer_ID =* CO.Customer_IDand CA.Addr_No =* isnull(S.Ship_To_Addr_No,CO.Ship_To_Addr_No)and C.ID = CO.Customer_IDand (S.Shipped_Date between '1/1/2003' and '12/31/2003')Try as I may, I simply can't find a working left, right, or full outerjoin statement that would give me the same results as the abovestatement gives. I thought this was suppose to work but don't knowwhy it doesn't. Anybody care to try or perhaps tell me why thestatement below doesn't work:Select CA.* From Customer C, ((Customer_Order CO left outer joinCust_Address CA on CA.Customer_ID = CO.Customer_ID) left outer joinShipper S on CA.Addr_No =isnull(S.Ship_To_Addr_No,CO.Ship_To_Addr_No)) Where C.ID =CO.Customer_IDand (S.Shipped_Date between '1/1/2003' and '12/31/2003')Thanks,Tony
I was told that XML names must not start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc) But I was able to store such data in sql 2005. Any thoughts on this one?
One of the new tests that we are running have to do with load testing an application with a constrained network pipe. I like this. One of my beefs has been related to stored procedures that return bloated result sets. This new set of tests potentially gives me some more amunition to use when I review stored procedures. A piece that I would like to produce as a result of this has to do with establishing an output bandwidth standard for our database servers. I have a few biased ideas but I would like to know if any of you have any similar pre-existing standards along this line. Any help?
Maybe I didn't search hard enough on BOL, but does Microsoft have a documented set of standards regarding custom component development for SSIS. Things like:
- extend this base class, implement this interface
Hello there. I'm developing an eCommerce solutions based on the ASP.NET 2.0 Commerce Starter Kit, architechture. It uses the Provider Pattern. In my web-application, i use the CatalogProvider, to retrieve data from a SQL Server 2005 database. I call the methods through a handler class, whoch excists inside the WebApp. I also use a ShoppingCartProvider, OrdersProvider, ShippingProvider etc. in the same way. In my Web.Config file, i have all the provers listed, and on each provider, the name of the connectionString to use are given. My connection string looks like this:"connString" connectionString="Server=xxxx;Database=xxxx;Trusted_Connection=True;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> The problem is, that suddently, when browsing the website, that connects to the database through the providers, i get this error: Keyword not supported: ',server'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Keyword not supported: ',server'.Source Error:

I've also tried to use another connectionsString, like this:Data Source=Aron1;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI But then the keyword which is not supported is: ', data source'
Does anyone know what the issue might be? Thanks in advance...
