I need to do UML Data Diagram . I have Database tables available and for my task i need to pull data from those tables ,i need to expres this through UML Data diagram . I never did UML Data Diagram ,Can anyone pls tell me how to do UML Data Diagram? How it wil be?

I have created a database with several tables. I want to create a database diagram to show the relationshipbetween the tables. Below are the steps from the SQL Server 2005 documentation on how to create a database diagram. The problem is that when I right click on the Database Diagrams folder I am only given two options. They are:"Working with SQL Server diagrams" and "Refresh"There is no menu choice to create a new database diagram. Can anyone tell me what the problem here is?
To create a new database diagramIn Object Explorer, right-click the Database Diagrams folder or any diagram in that folder.
Choose New Database Diagram on the shortcut menu.
The Add Table dialog box appears.
Select the required tables in the Tables list and click Add.
The tables are displayed graphically in the new database diagram.
I have a case study requesting to create an ER diagram, with the attributes listed in each entity. The data I have is an Excel Spreadsheet listing:

The case is related to travel agency that specializes in booking interesting vacations for people who are single. Now, my question is, how can I produce a diagram from that data, that is stored in a table, maybe called "DiagData1"?
I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 and Visual Basic Express 2005 and did some first steps with it as where shown in an brilliant tutorial that I“ve found on a Microsoft (?) webpage. It shows the complete way building a database and connecting it to a form which was build with Visual Basic. So all what is left is find out how the database tables are connected to a diagram.

What do you use to check the data structure at a source database? For instance, i've got a database which i can connect to using the ODBC (ado.net) connection in SSIS. To get a better understanding on the data and the relationships in the tables i would like to get a database diagram (ERD) of the source DB. Also i would like to be able to import this diagram into SQL server in the database diagram section when i'm going to load this data into a DWH. Any tips or free toolsĀ on better understanding the structure of an external source DB?

I am counting order type by a field which can have 3 different values.In a stacked column chart I am displaying the count of those different values, and showing a data label with the count for each order type. See screenshot.
Now I would like to show a line based on the total of each order type. I can see that SSRS already know the number of each order type as it is shown in the labels.
How do I add those numbers (shown in the labels) together and get it into a Total field? I would prefer not to alter my SQL query, if possible.

Hi i am getting the above error when i add a table to my Diagram, it happens inside VS05 (server explorer) as well as in SQL Express Server management studio CTP
the thing that is weird is that both tables are fine before i add the realtionship, both the Primary Key and the Foreign Key has the same data type which is Int. i am able to add the relationships but when i go to save the relationship diagram i get that above error
i believe that this error is caused when u try and insert data into a column that is larger that the column size, but in this case all am doing is creating a relation ship between the primary key in one table and a foreign key in the second table. ie i am not inserting data into either table
I looked at the size property of both columns under questions and both reflect a size of 4, I think that is 4 bytes of size,
so my question becomes is there any other place where the size of a column field is specified,

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working through a book about setting up a database, though i'm doing it slightly differently, using a sql server database on a remote server rather than the local sql server express database shipped with visual studio.
everything has been going fine until i've reached a part where they want to add a database diagram to the existing database. they talk about right clicking the database diagram node, and selecting add, but for some reason there is no database diagram node, so i can't do it this way. the book also says using the data>add new>diagram from the menu, but when i do this i either have no diagram option (when i have no table opened) or else the diagram option is greyed out and unselectable (when i have a table opened).
any ideas on how i can add a database diagram?

Hi there, I just set up my AppData and i'm trying to connect the Membership to a tbl_Profile that i created.I notice there's an application_id and a user_id which are uniqueidentifiers. I've been trying create a relationship to tbl_Profile's user_id column but it won't let me saying it's not compatible. Am i suppose to set tbl_Profile's user_id column to int or uniqueidentifier? I've tried both and it won't let me... THanks!
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen using the DTS to copy a db from my local MSSQL to the remote server (connecting via IP address) everything is copied ok except the diagram laying out the relations.
The table relations *are* copied because the damn thing works as expected also on the remote server.
I figured out that the diagrams are saved in the sysfile 'dtproperties' but when copying using the DTS query tool from local to remote this table is not visible.
I need to remove some relations on certain tables when bulk loading new data and was just wondering how I got to copy the diagram (as opposed to creating a new diagram on the remote server and adding relations manually).

When trying to create a DB diagram on my local SQL Server 2005 db, I get the following error:
cannot insert the value null into column "diagram_id"
I have searched the web and can't seem to find anything on this.
I just simply drag one table from my local db onto the diagram windows and try to Save it and that's what I get. I'm able to save diagrams on a networked SQL Server.
Does anybody know how I can resolve this issue?

Hi. I am getting back into working SQL now after a bunch of years and I am having problems with creating relationships with my tables.
All of the fields are defined the same, to clear that.
The error message that I am getting is:
'StaffTable' table saved successfully
'Billing Data Table 2' table
- Unable to create relationship 'FK_Billing Data Table 2_StaffTable'.
ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_Billing Data Table 2_StaffTable'. The conflict occurred in database 'HIMS_TRANS_UPDATE', table 'StaffTable', column 'StaffID'.
