What is the best approach to do this? Dynamic or Stattic giving min and max server memory a value ? and if static what value should I use for 32 GB knowing that this box is only being used for SQL.

Hi All,

We're currently preparing for a project for a bank client of ours where we would be using SQL Server 2008's data mining capabilities.

In the context of the out-of-the-box algorithms of SQL08 does the algorithms Logistics, Clustering and Logistic Regression includes Dynamic Logistics, Dynamic Clustering and Dynamic Logistic Regression?

Static/dynamic/embedded SQL Distinctions

Aug 22, 2005

I want to distinguish between static SQL, dynamic SQL, and embeddedSQL, but couldn't find too much useful resources in the web.For example, if we put SQL statements (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, etc...)inside an application (e.g. Java application, VB application, etc...),do we consider those SQL statements as static SQL? or embedded SQL?How about dynamic SQL? any practical examples?Please advise. thanks!!

Keeping Dynamic DateTime Variable Static

Apr 28, 2007

In one step of an SSIS package, i create an outgoing XLS filename based on the current datetime setting, a la:

"myFileName_" + (DT_WSTR,4)YEAR( getdate()) + RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR,2)MONTH( getdate()),2)+
RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR,2)DAY( getdate()),2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR,2)DATEPART("hh", getdate()),2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR,2)DATEPART("mi", getdate()),2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR,2)DATEPART("ss", getdate()),2) +".xls"

which provides the format as myFileName_yyyymmddhhmmss.xls.

This value is then assigned to a variable, user::myFilenameDateTime.

This variable is referred to in various steps which need the full pathname or filename.

I found, though, that in subsequent steps, the value for user::myFilenameDateTime is re-calculated whenever the variable is invoked.

So in one Task i created the physical output XLS file and named it "correctly", eg, myFileName_20070428090204.xls; in the next Task, i call a Stored Procedure in SQL Server 2005 to email the file with a corresponding message (that pulls in more data from the database).

The single Parameter to the Stored Procedure (that does the emailing) is the supposed/expected full Pathname of the outgoing file just produced but the parameter no longer represents the original filename -- and has changed slightly (a few seconds have been added) and the filename is now, myFileName_20070428090210.xls; consequently, my Email Distribution program cannot find the file with that specific name, although File = myFilename_20070428090204.xls does certainly exist.

so it appears that these variables are calculated realtime whenever encountered.

1) Am I misunderstanding something or misusing the variable assignment?

2) How can i keep << myFileName_yyyymmddhhmmss.xls >>, "static" throughout the duration of the overal SSIS Process.

3) I would think that even if I assign the derived myFileName value initially to ANOTHER "static" variable, this won't achieve anything because the new variable will be re-calculated again, as well, when it is invoked.

thx/spirits,

Dynamic OLE DB Connection String With Static User ID And Password

Apr 30, 2008

I'm trying to setup a dynamic ole db connection using the SA user ID, it has to be dynamic because the server name will change and it has to be SA because we're pulling information from system databases that some users don't have access to.

If I setup a regular static connection using SA credentials it works like a charm of course. When I create an expression to use the User:erver variable it doesn't work, it throws an error message saying that "The login failed for user sa" among other things, I'm thiking that the sa's password is not being saved.

Where exactly do I place a password for dynamic connections using sql server users? On the connection string? On the password property of the source? Any ideas?

Msg 6573 - Method In Assembly Is Not Static - How Do I Make It Static ?

Feb 22, 2006

I'm using Delphi 2006 to create a DLL which will be integrated into SQL 2005. It's been a long road and I've made a lot of headway, however I am currently having the following problem creating the stored procedure:

My dll name is 'Crystal_Reports_Test_01'
In the DLL, my class is named 'Class01'.
In the DLL, my procedure is named 'TestMe'

I've managed to integrate the DLL into SQL using the following statement:

CREATE ASSEMBLY TEST_ERIC_01
AUTHORIZATION dbo
FROM 'c:mssqlassembliescrystalreports.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE

I am attempting to create the stored procedure which points to the 'TestMe' method inside of the DLL. FYI: 'CrystalReports' is the namespace above my class that I had to add in order to get it to locate the class. The following code is used to create the stored procedure:

create procedure dbo.Crystal_Reports_Test_01(
@Parm1 nvarchar(255)
)
as external name TEST_ERIC_01.[CrystalReports.Class01].TestMe

But I get the following error:

Msg 6573, Level 16, State 1, Procedure Crystal_Reports_Test_01, Line 1Method, property or field 'TestMe' of class 'CrystalReports.Class01' in assembly 'CrystalReports' is not static.

I'm not sure what this means exactly. I think it means the method (the procedure) is not using Static method binding but should be. I have no idea what this really means or how to accomplish this in the DLL - or if I'm even going about this in the right way.

Any help would be appreciated ! I'll post the Delphi code (DLL) below.

Thanks,

Eric Gooden

library CrystalReports;uses System.Reflection, System.Runtime.InteropServices;...................type Class01 = class public procedure TestMe([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr)] var sVarString: wideString); export; end;procedure Class01.TestMe([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr)] var sVarString: wideString); export;begin sVarString:= 'Lets change the value and see if the stored proc. gets the change.';end;end.

Now I need to import data from SQL Server (using a query) and Union above static data with this SQL data and later I will have to create PowerPivot table in Sheet2.

Which is suitable option for me to import data from SQL to excel as I see "From SQL Server" option under "Data" and "Power Query" tab as well.

How to merge above SQL data with existing static data?

Dynamic Memory In SQL2000

Nov 5, 2002

Does anyone mess with this feature? they say that you don't have to change this setting in sql2000. I have 3 gigs of memory and have it still set to dynamically configure the memory. I don't know if i should change this to a fixed memory size, if i did how do you tell what value to set it at? What are the pros and cons if I set it to fixed? Thanks.

Sql Server Memory Dynamic Or Fixed?

Jun 8, 2007

I have a person who just recomended to a customer to use Fixed instead of Dynamic for the SQL Server Memory setting informing me that I was wrong for setting it to use Dynamic.

Well I tried to explain that why would you want to give away memory if you do not need to, he just answered that I was wrong, any help in proving me wrong or him wrong?

Which way is the correct way. I was told by a very bright person with a strong background in the developement of SQL that when it was written it was done so with the word "fixed" memory size was done in lower case just as a reminder that you can but should never use "fixed" that you should always use Dynamic (which by the way does use a capitol "D"...)

Just wondering...Thanks for the help guys...

This is the personal edition running on the XP Pro platform for use in a Point-of-Sale enviorment with 6 other computers connecting to hte SQL server on the one back of house computer which is running 4mb of memory.

I told them that the minimum should be at zero and the max is set to half....

Could it be down to not having enough memory? But would this not show in the advisor?

AWE/Lock Page In Memory Drawbacks? Min/Max Settings, Memory Issues

Oct 11, 2007

I've been researching AWE to determine if we should enable this for our environment.

Currently we have a quad core box with 4 gb of RAM (VMware). OS: Windows 2003 std, SQL Server 2005 std. 3GB is not set but will be as soon as we can perform maintenance on the server.

I have read mixed feedback on AWE, either it works great or grinds you to a hault. I would assume that the grinding to a hault is due to not setting the min/max values correctly or not enabling the lock page in memory setting.

We only have one instance of SQL on the server and this box won't be used for anything else aside from hosting SQL services. We do plan on running SSRS off of this server as well.

1. Will running SSRS and enabling AWE cause me problems? Will I have to reduce the max setting by the SSRS memory usage or will it share and play nice?

2. How do I go about setting the Max value? Should it be less than the physical RAM in the box? Right now its set to the default of 214748364, even if I don't enable AWE should this default value be changed?

3. It seems that even at idle the SQL server holds a lot of memory and the page file grows. If I restart the process in the morning, memory usage in taskmon is at 600mb or so. By the end of the day, its up around 2gb. How can I track down whats causing this, should this even concern me?

4. The lock Page in memory setting worries me. Everything I've read on this seems to give a warning about serious OS and other program support degradation. In some cases to the point where they have to restore the settings on the server before they can bring it back up. What are your thoughts on this.

How To Return A Static Value?

Apr 25, 2007

I have the following stored procedure...
CREATE Procedure UserGetInfo2 (@UserID int, @SystemTimePeriodID int )As set nocount onSELECT     Users.UserId as UserID, Users.UserName as UserName, Users.RealName as RealName, UserTimePeriod.BudgetCode as BudgetCode, UserTimePeriod.SystemTimePeriodID as SystemTimePeriodID, Users.Password as Password, Users.SSN as SSN, Users.Location as Location, Users.ScheduleType as ScheduleType, Users.EmployeeType as EmployeeType, Users.TimeAccounted as TimeAccountedFROM      Users INNER JOIN UserTimePeriod ON Users.UserId = UserTimePeriod.UserIDWHERE     (users.userID= @UserID) AND (UserTimePeriod.SystemTimePeriodID = @SystemTimePeriodID)returnGO
The problem lies in that when a person has a SystemTimePeriodID over a certain value, there is no UserTimePeriod record since it has not been created yet.
Obviously, I need to wrap this in an IF...EXISTS
IF EXISTS (SELECT UserTimePeriodID FROM UserTimePeriod WHERE (SystemTimePeriodID = @SystemTimePeriodID) AND (UserID = @UserID))
(the SELECT above, since that's what needs to come back if the data exists)
ELSE
Do the same select but put in a static value for BudgetCode, like '0000'
GO
How could I do the part where the IF...EXISTS fails?
I'm... not sure I can use RETURNS, since it feeds into this recordset:
rstUserInfo2.Open "UserGetInfo2 " & Request("UserID") & ", " & Request("SYSTIMEPERIODID")
and later uses values from that RecordSet, such as <td><%=rstUserInfo("BudgetCode") & ""%></td>

Would Max Memory Including SSIS And SSAS Memory

Mar 27, 2008

Hello, I understand that we should use SSMS -> Server Properties -> Memory to put a cap on the SQL server memory usage, therefore it gives some space memory for OS, this is based on the fact if the max memory is not specified, SQL will use whatever available memory and eventually crash the system.

My question is that when a server has SSIS and SSAS services installed along with the SQL service. Would the max memory setting covers the SSIS and SSAS memory usage, or the SSIS and SSAS has to shared the memory with OS?

Thanks,
fshguo.

Memory Issues, SSIS Package Out Of Memory Help

Dec 6, 2006

I am running Visual Studio 2005. I have an SSIS Package which is consuming a huge amount of memory. During the execution of the package the memory keeps increasing. Until finally i get an Out of Memory exception. I have run this package using dtexec, and in the BIDS. No difference. I do have some script components and have added some code to get the assemblies in the current appdomain. I do see that one particular assembly is increasing on every loop. VBAssembly every time it hits the script component is increasing by 6, and along with it the memory is climbing. What is this VBAssembly being used for is there an update to SQL Server Integration Services that I need?

Thanks! Aaron B.

Sql Server 2000 Using Less Memory After More Memory Added

Aug 22, 2007

sql server 2000 is running on windows server 2003 ... 4gb of memory on server .... 2003 was allocated 2.3gb nd sql server was allocated (and using all of it) 1.6gb for total of approx 4gb based on idera monitor software ... all memory allocated betweeen the OS and sql server .... then 4 more gb of memory added for total now of 8g ... now idera monitor shows 1.7gb for OS and 1.0 gb for sql server ..... 'system' info shows 8gb memory with PAE ... so I assume that the full 8gb can now be addressed .... why are less resources being used now with more total memory .... especially sql server ..... i thought about specifying a minimum memmry for sql server but i amnot convinced that would even work since it seems that this 1gb limit is artificial .... it it used 1.6 gb before why would it not use at least that much now ??

thank you

Select 'static' Row/result

Oct 17, 2006

Let's say I have a simple query to return the results of my "Status" table. The query reads as follows:

Code:

Select statusID, statusName
From Status

Here is the result set that I am returned:

Code:

22 Associate Member
23 Is Not Paying
24 Exempt
25 Fair Share
26 Member
29 Retiree
30 Staff
32 Fair Share - Self Pay
34 Member - Self Pay

Now, I am using this query for reporting purposes and would like to inject some additional sql that will append one additional row to my result set -- this is what I am calling the 'static' row in the thread title.

In other words, without modifying my database I would like to return the above set of data but with one additional row that has an arbitrary ID with the name "Unknown" or something similar.

again, I want to avoid adding an "Unknown" field directly to my database -- is their any way to "hard code" the selection of this row in my sequal?

Thanks,

Zoop

Virtual To Static Table

May 26, 2004

:confused: Please forgive this elementary question. I have database which has a view that produces the desired records and fields from multiple tables. As I understand it a view is a Virtual Table. My problem is I need to export these results periodically to deliver to a customer. I am running this database on SQL Server 2000 if I right click on a table I have the option to dts the data to a text file but when I right click on the view I do not have this option. How can I make this virtual table an actual table. PLEASE Help Thank You, Ed

Declare Un-static Decimal Value

Oct 12, 2007

I try to declare a variable with un static decimal point in the following statement:-

declare @mpt int;
declare @mpq nvarchar (1)
SELECT @mpq = (SELECT mpq FROM ims.parm)

exec('declare @MM1 decimal (10,'+ @mpq +');')

set @mm1 = 1
print @mpt
when i print the declare statement looks like the following:
declare @MM1 decimal (10,2);
but with exec the statement, I have the following error:-
Msg 137, Level 15, State 1, Line 18
Must declare the scalar variable "@mm1".

Best regards

Procedure/static Cursor

Mar 30, 2008

can someone tell me how to use static cursor to read the rows applying it in procedure.
i have input and output tables
i will have to use input table to read data and then in procedure update/insert into output table ) insert values from input and dditioanl calulate charges.
ok, there is my problem:
An Internet service provider has three different subscription
packages for its customers:

Package A: For $15 per month with 50 hours of access provided.
Additional hours are $2.00 per hour over 50 hours.
Assume usage is recorded in one-hour increments,
i.e., a 25-minute session is recorded as one hour.

Package B: For $20 per month with 100 hours of access provided.
Additional hours are $1.50 per hour over 100 hours.

Package C: For $25 per month with 150 hours access is provided.
Additional hours are $1.00 per hour over 150 hours

Assume a 30-day billing cycle.

1) Create a table to hold customer input billing data.

2) Populate input table with follwing records:

CustomerID Pkg Hours
---------- --- ------
1000 A 49
1010 A 50
1020 a 90
1030 a 130

1090 B 40
1100 B 99
1110 b 100
1120 b 145

1140 C 45
1150 c 85
1160 c 149
1170 c 150
1180 c 200

3) Create a table to hold customer data used to generate
the statement to be sent to the customer. It should
include CustomerID, Package, HoursUsed, and Charges.

Write an SQL script that reads customer billing data,
calculates a customer’s monthly charges, and populates
the customer statement table.
Use Cursor to process records and Stored Procedures for
ProcessBill and calcCharges.

CREATE TABLE custinput(
cust_id int NULL,
pkg char(1) NULL,
hrs smallint NULL
)

CREATE TABLE custoutput(
cust_id int NULL,
pkg char(1) NULL,
hrsused smallint NULL,
charges money null

)

insert into custinput values (1000,'A',49);
insert into custinput values (1010,'A',50);
insert into custinput values (1020,'a',90);
insert into custinput values (1030,'a',130);
insert into custinput values (1090,'B',40);
insert into custinput values (1100,'B',99);
insert into custinput values (1110,'b',100);
insert into custinput values (1120,'b',145);

insert into custinput values (1140,'C',45);
insert into custinput values (1150,'c',85);

insert into custinput values (1160,'c',149);
insert into custinput values (1170,'c',150);
insert into custinput values (1180,'c',200);

then there is conditions:

if upper (@pkg)= 'A'
begin
if @hrs<= 50 set @charges =15
else set @charges =15 + (@hrs-50)*2

end;

else if upper(@pkg)= 'B'
begin
if @hrs <= 100 set @charges = 20
else set @charges = 20 + (@hrs - 100)*1.5

end;
else

if @hrs <=150 set @charges = 25
else set @charges =25+(@hrs-150)

insert into custoutput values(@cust_id,@pkg,@hrs,@charges)

Deleting A Static Matrix Row

Jul 30, 2007

This seems like it should be extremely obvious. I don't know if I'm just going insane or what...

If I add a matrix to my report and then right click a "data cell", I can add columns and rows. I go ahead and add however many columns and rows I want. Now I want to delete one of the rows I just added, how do I do that?

I have tried highling the entire row, but it doesn't allow me to delete it. If I select just one cell and click delete, it deletes the column and not the row. I can just use the "undo" command right after I create it, but if I have already done numerous other things to the report, it removes all of that first.

I must be missing something very obvious here.
