What Is The Best Way To Move My ASPNETDB.MDF From SQLExpress 2005 To Full SQL Server 2005

Apr 12, 2007

Hi,

I have an ASPNETDB.MDF (asp.net membership/profile db) that was generated for SQL Express, it has user information I need to keep.

I have SQLExpress and full SQL Server 2005 running on the server. I want to remove SQL Express from the server.

So can I simply do a backup of the SQL Express membership db and restore it to full SQL and change the connection string in my app or

do i need to run the membership wizard on full sql and then do the backup / restore?

Or is there another way.

Thanks

Sql Server Express ASPNETDB Move To Sql Server 2005

Jul 21, 2006

I used aspnet_regsql to put membership tables, etc on sql server 2005.
Is there a tool to help me build the web.config statement to point to these tables?
I found the code below at http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/dsdaf/104092006022507AM/1.aspx?ArticleID=bc2ca2b0-9e3d-42ad-b4b9-0dce96231ce6 but it throws this error: Parser Error Message: Unrecognized configuration section membership.
 <membership>
   <providers>
    <remove name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" />
    <add connectionStringName="MyDBConnectionString"          enablePasswordRetrieval="false"
     enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="true" applicationName="/"
     requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5"
     minRequiredPasswordLength="7" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="1"
     passwordAttemptWindow="10" passwordStrengthRegularExpression=""

Am I barking up the right tree?

SqlExpress Instance In Connection String Instead Of Full Sql 2005

Sep 27, 2006

Hello, I had started my project with the express edition, then I switched to the pro one. The problem is that in my webconfig I still have  .SQLEXPRESS and I don't know how to modify that to use the full version of Sql server. <add name="MyConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|MyDataBase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> When I look at the surface area manager I can see that I have 2 instances running : MSSQLSERVER and SQLEXPRESS.When starting Sql Server Management Studio I can connect to 2 servers: NEWDELL and NEWDELLSQLEXPRESS.And when I try to replace SQLEXPRESS by MSSQLSERVER in the connectionstring, then it doesn't connect.I remember having lost connection already when playing with all these tools, so I pay attention now ! That's why any help would be really appreciated ! Thank you.

How To Move Full Text Catalog SQL 2005???

Sep 6, 2007

I have Googled the terms 'move path change full-text index catalog' and have come up with nothing that pertains to SQL 2005...only 2000 and 7.0....

So my question remains, how the heck do you change the location of the full-text catalog in SQL 2005? Must I delete and re-create? If so is there a good article on this process? I don't want to loose data or screw anything up....I can't imagine I am the first person who wants to do his?????

Using Aspnetdb In SQL Server 2005 Standard

Dec 25, 2005

Hi,
I am not using Express 2005 on my production server, rather I'm using SQL Server 2005 standard edition.  So I have my site working perfectly on the development server, but once I publish it, the builtin aspnetdb that I use for logging in and such doesn't work.
I have another database my app uses and it works fine once I changed the connection string.  So I think I just need to change the connection string all the fancy new login controls use.  But I can't figure out how to do that.
Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Problem Creating ASPNETDB Under SQL Server 2005

May 30, 2007

Hi All...  We're cloning an application currently under development on Server 2003 / SQL Server 2005 / dotnet 2.0.  The clone's going to live on an XPSP2 box with SQL Server 2003 - it's for demo purposes... The application's able to get to our own database, but it's having a hard time creating the ASPNETDB that dot net likes to have.
Aside from the OS, the only difference between the two SQL Servers is that on the working system, we're using windows authentication on the database while on the non-working system, we're using SQL Server authentication.  But we've tuned the connection strings appropriately - again, we can get to our own db just fine.
We have the following lines in our web.config:
<connectionstrings>    <clear />    <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionstring="Server=localhost; Database=ASPNETDB; UID=sa; PWD=mypassword" /></connectionstring>
On the working system, the Server is an actual IP address, integrated security is set to true, and of course the uid/pwd is a bit different.  But again, using a very similar connection string, we able to get to OUR database on the non-working system...
The error we're getting at runtime is:
Cannot open database "ASPNETDB" requested by the login.  The login failed.  Login failed for user 'sa'.
When we poke into the database from SQL Server Management Studio - on a remote machine - we can see our own database is there, but the ASPNETDB isnt there.  Yet...  I suspect it failing getting in to just create the db....
Any thoughts?  Thanks for the help!!!   -- Curt

SQLExpress 2005 - Local Server

Mar 6, 2008

Good day, my apologies if thes question has been asked before, but I can't find anything with the exact same situation...

Just managed to successfully install SQL Express 2005 (in place of MSDE2000), kept the same database, which upgraded without a problem. I can connect to my local SQL server, but only if I use my full PC name, I get 'SQL server not found out access denied' and 'Specified SQL server not found' whenever I try with . or (local) or localhost.

My main issue is that I have a million and one batch files for all the features I use most to simplify my work, which now will not run as they all specify (local) instead of my PC name. Looking on the MS Support pages, I've tried various different options, none of which seem to make any difference at all.

Here is my current setup:

SQL Express 2005 - version 9.00.2047.00 - (installed with 'Default Instance', not 'Instance: SQLExpress')
Win XP Pro SP3 - version 3264
All of the following are enabled in 'SQL Server Config Manager' - Protocols for MSSQLSERVER:
Shared Memory
Named Pipes
TCP/IP
VIA

I also attempted to install the latest MDAC (version 2.8), and it tells me these components are already part of SP2.

Could anybody tell me if I am missing something, or need to install / update anything further? I am at a dead end with this now.

Thanks in advance,
Andre Greeff

SQLExpress Database Fails Under SQL SERVER 2005

Jun 19, 2006

Q1: When I try to move a database (.mdf and .ldf file), developed with SQLEXPRESS on Win/XP to my SBS2003 server running with SQL SERVER 2005, I cannot attach the database on the server. Backup/Restore fails as well.

"Could not find row in in sysindexes for database ID=12...."

Could not open new database 'Test'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted (error 602).

I tried to copy an ad hoc db with only one table from the client to the server, same error. Similar procedure withs MSDE and SQL 2000 worked flawlessly. It seems there is something wrong with my SQLEXPRESS setup.

Anybody who can advice?

Q2. on the client with SQL EXPRESS, I switched on in the surface area configuration TCP and pipes; however SQL SERVER Management Studio on the server cannot connect te SQLEXPRESS engine on the client machine. Is this normal?

However from the client, SQL EXPRESS Management Studio can connect to the SQL SERVER 2005 engine.on the server.

Thanks, eric

SQLEXPRESS Instance On SQL SErver 2005 Standard Edition

Jan 10, 2007

What happens when you install a SQLEXPRESS instance on a machine that already has SQL Server 2005? Will the SQLEXPRESS still run in the limited mode or will it sense that an full standard version of SQL Server 2005 is already present and just "upgrade" itself?

On the otherhand, how do I "upgade" an existing instance of SQLEXPRESS to a full version of SQL Server 2005 standard edition without uninstalling and installing the standard edition. If I have both the instances then will the SQLEXPRESS be freed from its limits?

Thanks,

How To Move SQL 2005 Datatbase To Another Server?

May 22, 2006

Please could someone help?
I'm about to launch a website however I'm having trouble moving my SQL 2005 database from my development server (developer edition) to my web host server.
I'd like to do a backup/restore but I don't seem to have permission to do that - restricted to their directory for restore.
So I have done this in management studio:
1. Tasks -> Generate Scripts, Script all objects.  On the development database.
2. Needed to remove the following lines since it errored otherwise when executing the script!
IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.database_principals WHERE name = N'adaspnet')
CREATE USER [adaspnet] FOR LOGIN [PIRATEASPNET] WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA=[dbo]
3. Create new SQL 2005 database on host and ran the script.
4. Tasks -> Import Data. On the live database. It keeps crashing with "there is already an object named vw_aspnet_Applications" etc. I have got it to work by excluding all the vw_ entries from the import. It now works!!!
The question is this: Is what i've done ok? Is there a cleaner and better way etc?
I've only just started learning SQL server and therefore I'm a complete novice so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kotdot

Can't Connect To SQL Server 2005 In Visual Studio, Only SQLExpress Works?

Jul 8, 2007

Hi all,I'm having a big problem here. I can't seem to connect to a database of MSSQL Server 2005... Here is what I've did:1. Under the Server Explorer>Data Connections. Right click and choose "Add Connection..."2. Data Source was "Microsoft SQL Server Database File". Click OK.3. I browse to the database in the MSSQL.2/MSSQL/Data folder.4. Click on the "Advanced" button, and change the default DataSource from .SQLEXPRESS to .MSSQLSERVER. Click OK5.  Received this error:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) Only .SQEXPRESS that I was able to connect to... i've tried the solution from Microsoft, opened SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration and enabled "Local and remote connections", checked the option "Using both TCP/IP and named pipes" but it didn't help. This is frustrating because I can't get the Membership provider, login to work on my host. Please help. Thank you very much,Kenny.

Move SQL Server 2005 Instance To Another Computer

Apr 14, 2008

I have SQL server 2005 on a Windows 2003 machine. The machine is old and I need to move the entire SQL server to a new machine. There are many databases and users that need to move across to the new server. Detaching and attaching the databases would be tedious due to the large number of databases. Is there a way of moving the DB's and SQL users to the new machine without having to do each db one at a time?

Additional info that might be helpful:
The new server's IP address and name must also change to that of the old server.
The old server initially had SQL 2000 on it and was upgraded to SQL 2005.
The new server was installed with SQL 2005 only. Hence the Database and log paths differ between the old and new server.

Any help would be appreciated.

ASPNETDB.MDF In Visual Studio 2005 --&&> ISP-hosted MS SQL
