Default Report Server Web Page

Jan 17, 2007

I've only just started working on Sql Server Reporting Services 2005, My role is mainly that of administrator (some other unfortunate sole will be doing the development)

However, I'm having some problems configuring the "Welcome" screen on the server. Currently it looks like a default web directory, I can click through to Data Sources and a directory containing the current test reports:

Looks like:
Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:14 PM <dir> Data Sources
Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:14 PM <dir> Test Reports

Clicking on Test Reports
gives:
[To Parent Directory]Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:14 PM 15193 Basic Test Report

Question is:
Is there an XML (Or XSL) file somewhere where I can define how the website displays the report directories and names.
Or
Do i need to build a custom web app?

A link in the right direction would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Sam

Local - Including Page Header Forces Viewer To Expand To Page Size

Jul 17, 2007

Hello,
If I have a report that includes a page header, the report viewer will render the report at the full width, but if I hide the page header and show only the body it will use the absolute width of the report.

I have a 7" wide report, with .75" borders set on each side.

Interactive & Print size are set to 8.5x11
Changing these sizes has no effect on the behavior of the viewer, which appears to ignore them.

When I view this report in the local viewer the contents fill the window if there is no page header.
If I enable the page header then the report is drawn at 8.5" wide, leaving a _big_ white border on the right side.
Any comments or workarounds that anyone knows? I know the local viewer is not a standard configuration (at least it seems) but it is what we need to use.Thanks,//Andrew

Page Header Being Truncated When Page Size Changes

Nov 26, 2007

I think I know the answer but I have a report that is supposed to print in Ledger. It has a header that has report information on the left and on the right has page count and date run. When the user resizes the page to letter, only the first part of the header shows (left piece with report information). Instead of resizing the header it seems it truncates it. Is there a way to resize it. If I move the right side over it looks centered on the Ledger size.

Default Dates To UTC In SQL Server 2000

May 8, 2007

Hi all,

I hope this is the correct forum. I have SQL Server 2000 installed on a server located in the USA. The local time zone on the server is EST. Therefore getdate() returns EST time. I now realise that I'd like to be saving all my timestamps in UTC. While I could modify all my stored procedures to use getutcdate() rather than getdate() I wonder if there is a database level setting for time zone that will cause getdate() to return UTC date?

Any ideas?

SQL Server 2000 Log File Size

Nov 10, 2006

Am running several databases on SQL server 2000.
Have several overnight jobs for interface and maintenance, etc.
Log file on one specific database increases in size 10 fold overnight. Unable to trace why.
I have a job to truncate the logs before the final overnight backup. Several times a week the job hangs - on nights when log file expands, so it is a pain. Able to resolve the issue after the event, but do not understand why the log file increases in size (at that time) in the first place. No other activity on the server at the time.

Please suggest me solution by which i can optimize the database size also suggest me some tips by which i can estimate the database size. Please respond at the earliest possible.

SQL Server 2000 Standard .. DB Size Limit

Dec 29, 2003

Hi all.

On the MS website (at this URL: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/overview/default.asp) it says that the Standard edition of SQL Server 2000 has a database size limit of 1,048,516 terabytes.

Talking to a friend, he tells me this is not true, and that it has a database size limit of 12gb.

Is Microsofts site incorrect, or is my friend lost?

Cheers! :-)

When viewing a report, there is an option in the left corner for the size ie. 100%, 150%, page width, whole page etc from the dropdown list.

I was wondering is there a way to make the ''Page Width" option the default view for a particular report or site ?

Setting Default Code Page

Nov 28, 2007

I've been reading some forums and I'm not able to get this to work. Basically I'm using an Oracle DB source and trying to import data into SQL server 2005. I guess the best connections to use are OLE DB.

Here are my current connections:
Source: Native OLE DBOracle Provide for OLE DB
Destination: Native OLE DBSQL Native Client

I'm running SP2 of SQL 2005.

Now, the issue is I'm not getting the code page stuff correct. In the data flow I'm just doing a OLE DB Source to SQl Server Destination. I'm not doing any transformations (I'm hoping to avoid doing that).

I'm getting an error:

[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

I'm looking at how to set the DefaultCodePage property in various forums, but nowhere does it say exactly how to do this. I've tried changing the "Extended Properties" and added AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage=TRUE in there, but that doesn't work. I've tried changing the Locale Identifier to 1252 that doesn't work. I've tried a combination of the two, doesn't work. Can somebody tell me two things:

1. what's the best/fastest/industry used method to get data from Oracle into SQL server via SSIS (please include the type of connections).
2. How the hell do you set the DefaultCodePage property. I would love a screenshot on this one as well.

Thanks,
Phil

Dec 29, 2006

Default data directory = D:

Default log directory = D:

I found out that the data is stored in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLdata and backup is done in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLackup

However, Microsoft says we should never put the ..ackup and ..data folders in the same partition.

My question is: How can I move the path of the backup directory?

I checked the registy but this is what I found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerMSSQLServer

..BackupDirectory=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLackup (<-- note it is pointing to C: not D:)

..DefaultData=D:

SQL Server 2000 Cluster - Excessive Page Faults

Jul 31, 2007

We are running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition on a 2-node cluster with IIS/ASP.NET front-end hosting 150-200 active connections. There is a SVCHOST process running under LOCAL SERVICE account - hosting the Remote Registry process that is using only 4,200K but is page faulting 200-500 times per second. I realize this process is used for failover, but the page fault seems excessive. Any thoughts on this?

The servers are running Windows Server 2003 with 4 processors and 4gb RAM.

Setting Paper Size To Be Default A4

May 30, 2006

Hi,

I have been trying to configure the Paper Size to be default "A4" instead of "Letter".
My Report is configured to 21cm x 29,7cm and margins 1,5cm.
The Body is configured to 18cm x 26,7cm.

Everything looks fine in the Preview but the Size is always "Letter". The printers are all configured for A4 printing.

Is there a way to set these default values in the Page Setup Toolbar or is it supposed to figure it out?

Thanks,

Changing Footer Size On Last Page Only

Apr 29, 2008

Dear all,

I am having a problem with the footer in my SQL Reporting Services project. I am trying to print a disclaimer in a text box on the last page in the footer. I can get the text box in the footer just fine but as the disclaimer is quite a lengthly multi line text string the footer has to be enlarged in order to fit the whole text box in.

This causes a problem on all the other pages where even though the footer is not displayed on pages before the last page it still takes up space stopping other data from being displayed where the footer would normally be.

Is there a way for me to set the footer size to a default value all all pages except the last page? I just want to enlarge the footer to about 1.5" on the last page to print my disclaimer without effecting the other pages layout.

Many thanks in advance,

Trevor Keast

Choose Paper Source By PDF Page Size

Jul 31, 2007

Does anyone know how to get SQL Reporting Services, when it runs a report, to tell Adobe Acrobat to "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size", which is an option in the print dialog box?

When I, or a user, runs a report in Visual Studio or live:

The report is set to render on 8.5" x 14" paper (legal)

The report is exported to a PDF

The report opens in Adobe Acrobat

The report is formatted on the screen to fit 8.5" x 14" paper (legal)

When "Print" is selected, the Preview has it on 8.5" x 11" paper (letter)

If I select "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size", then it fits it to the 8.5" x 14" paper (legal)
How do I tell it to "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size"?

MSDE [SQL 2000] -- Server Balks When Web Page Loads -- Select Permission Denied

Oct 28, 2006

Hi folks,

I'm having trouble getting off the ground with the Web application walkthrough "Walkthrough: Creating a Web Application Using Visual C# or Visual Basic" in VS.NET Pro 2002 [Academic] documentation. After a bit of fishing around, and consulting the MS Knowledge Base, I got the pubs database installed. I also got the connection to work well enough that the dataset would fill in the IDE.

The problem is that when I try to run the web form, either from the IDE debug menu, or by accessing the .aspx file on localhost using Firefox, I get the error:
SELECT permission denied on object 'titles', database 'pubs', owner 'dbo'.
showing in the browser.
My understanding is that this page is running as ASPNET, and I did already carry out the recommended commands to enable access:
C:>osql -E -S MY-MACHINE-NAMEVSDOTNET -Q "sp_grantlogin 'MY-MACHINE-NAMEASPNET'"
C:>osql -E -S MY-MACHINE-NAMEVSDOTNET -d Pubs -Q "sp_grantdbaccess 'MY-MACHINE-NAMEASPNET'"
both of which commands returned successfully. Any suggestions as to what else I should do to get the necessary permissions to actually display the data in my browser? Does the IIS user account need permission also?

Thanks for any insight into this vexing problem. I must say that along the way, I have had some fun exploring the osql comand-line tool. Using the -E switch, I have been able to run select and upgrade queries, but this is all pretty much fishing in the dark. I would like to get back to actually working with the walthroughs in the Visual Studio documentation.

Thanks,

Joseph
