What Is The Maximum Columns In INSERT Statement ??

Feb 24, 2007

Hello friends,

I am sorry to be posting this message in this forum. But thought if anyone does have any idea abt my problem, which i illustrate below.

I want to know what is the maximum number of columns that an INSERT statement can handle?

I have come across a situation where i need to insert 15 values in a table.

INSERT INTO myTable (col1, col2, col3,....., col15) VALUES (v1, v2, v3,...., v15).

Actual statement:

INSERT INTO BillSell (bnumber, stock, qty, price, tprice, seen, bill_id, brokerage, service_tax, brok_st, stt, brok_st_stt, total_cost, total_rate_pu, check)
VALUES ('ICICI 06-12-2004 reshma', 'RELIND', 10, 541.7375183271872, 5417.375183271873, 'no', 2402, 40.2375, 4.92507, 45.162569999999995, 6.771718979089841, 51.934288979089835, 5365.0, 536.5, 'check')

When I call this in Java program, it asks me to check the syntax of the statement as follows :

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'check) VALUES ('ICICI 06-12-2004 reshma', 'RELIND', 10, 541.7375183271872, 5417.' at line 1

Please make notice that all the data types of the table columns and the values passed in the statement match.

Now the problem is that, when from the above INSERT statement, i remove the last column (i.e. the "check" column and its corresponding value passed i.e. 'check'), the code works fine. I observe here that now there are 14 columns in the statement.

So i need the solutions for this. I cannot move further in the program......

Please help.

Select col1, col2,col3,col4,

(col2 + col3) as addcol2,
(col3 + col4) as addcol3,
Max(addcol1,addcol2,addcol3) as maxvalue

I am getting error as max accepts one argument, I cannot use case statement as table is already bulky and it will make my query more expensive.

Assigning a value from col01 to col13 is working fine.Is there a limitation on number of columns can be added to a table using code?

Maximum Number Of Destination Columns In OLE DB Command??

I'm using 2 OLE DB Commands; 1 to perform an insert the other an update. I have found that on the column mapping tab, I only have 10 parameters available to map to. The issue is I need 40 parameters. Code:

conn.Source = "INSERT INTO img (imageDesc,imageName,imageDate,imageUser,imageIP) VALUES ('"& ni &"','"& fn &"','"& Now() &"',"& Session("MM_UserID") &",'"& Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST") &"')"

In another table, I want to insert the primary key (imageID) of this newly inserted row into a new table called "t_image_Site" along with another value in another column.

Any advice/tutorials... this can be done with a trigger if I'm not mistaken?

OLE DB Destination - Fast Load With Maximum Insert Commit Size

Sep 8, 2006

I'm seeing some strange behavior from the OLE DB Destination when using the "fast load" access mode and setting the "Maximum insert commit size".

When I do not set the "Rows per batch" or the "Maximum insert commit size", the package I'm working with inserts 123,070 rows using a single "insert bulk" statement. The data seems to flow through the pipeline until it gets to the OLE DB Destination and then I see a short pause. I'm assuming the pause is from the "insert bulk" statement handling all of the rows at once.

When I set the "Rows per batch" option but leave the "Maximum insert commit size" alone, I generally see the same behavior -- a single "insert bulk" statement that handles all 123,070. In this case, however, the "insert bulk" statement has a "ROWS_PER_BATCH" option appended to the statement that matches the "Rows per batch" setting. This makes sense. I'm assuming the "insert bulk" then "batches" the rows into multiple insert statements (although I'm unsure of how to confirm this). This version of the "insert bulk" statement appears to run in about the same time as the case above.

When I set the "Maximum insert commit size" option and leave the "Rows per batch" statement alone, I see multiple "insert bulk" statements being executed, each handling the lower of either the value I specify for the "Maximum insert commit size" or the number of rows in a single buffer flowing through the pipeline. In my testing, the number of rows in a buffer was 9,681. So, if I set the "Maximum insert commit size" to 5,000, I see two "insert bulk" statements for each buffer that flows into the OLE DB Destination (one handling 5,000 rows and one handling 4,681 rows). If I set the "Maximum insert commit size" to 10,000, I see a single "insert bulk" statement for each buffer that flows into the OLE DB Destination (handling 9,681 rows).

Now the problem. When I set the "Maximum insert commit size" as described in the last case above, I see LONG pauses between buffers being handled by the OLE DB Destination. For example, I might see one buffer of data flow through (and be handled by one or more "insert bulk" statements based on the "Maximum insert commit size" setting), then see a 2-3 minute pause before the next buffer of data is handled (with its one or more "insert bulk" statements being executed). Then I might see a 4-5 minute pause before the next buffer of data is handled. The pause between the buffers being passed through the OLE DB Destination (and handled via the "insert bulk" statements) is sometimes shorter, sometimes longer.

Using Profiler, I don't see any other activity going on within the database or within SQL Server itself that would explain the pauses between the buffers being handled by the OLE DB Destination and the resulting "insert bulk" statements...

Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is setting the "Maximum insert commit size" a bad idea? What are the differences between it and the "Rows per batch" setting and what are the recommended uses of these two options to try to improve the performance of the insert (particularly when handling millions of rows)?

TIA for any thoughts or information...

Transact SQL :: Error - Maximum Row Size Exceeds Allowed Maximum Of 8060 Bytes

I have some code I build 2 weeks ago which I’ve been running daily but it’s suddenly stopped working with the following error.

“The table "tbl_Intraday_Tmp" has been created, but its maximum row size exceeds the allowed maximum of 8060 bytes. INSERT or UPDATE to this table will fail if the resulting row exceeds the size limit” When I google this there seems to be a related to tables with vast numbers of columns.

My table tbl_Intraday_tmp is relatively small. It has 7 columns. 1 of varchar(5), 3 of decimal(9,3) and 2 of decimal(18,0). The bit I’m puzzled with is it was working and stopped.

I don’t recall changing anything but I wouldn’t rule that out. I ‘ve inspected the source files and I don’t believe they have changed either.

@Path varchar(50),
@SqlCmd varchar(1000)

Openquery Insert With Additional Columns For Manual Insert.

Apr 24, 2008

I am currently using openquery to insert data into a SQL 2000 database from a Lotus Notes database. The Lotus database is a linked server with a datasource named CLE_CARS_SF. My SQL table is called Webcases.

The query below works well because the table's columns are even in both databases:

Insert into Webcases select * from openquery(CLE_CARS_SF,
'Select * from Web_Cases')

I am moving this over to SQL 2005. The query works well, but I want to add a column to the Webcases SQL database and manually insert a value along with the openquery values.

My insert statement above no longer works because the column numbers don't match.

In a nutshell I would like a way to combine the following queries:

Insert into Webcases select * from openquery(CLE_CARS_SF,
'Select * from Web_Cases')

Insert into Webcases (insurancetype) Values ('SF')

--insurancetype is the new column.

Strange Problem: SQL Insert Statement Does Not Insert All The Fields Into Table From Asp.net C# Webpage

An insert statement was not inserting all the data into a table. Found it very strange as the other fields in the row were inserted. I ran SQL profiler and found that sql statement had all the fields in the insert statement but some of the fields were not inserted. This problem is being seen on SQL 2005 SP2 + cumulative update 4

I am currently successfully using the output clause of an insert statement to return the identity values for inserted rows into a table variable

I now need to add an "instead of insert" trigger to the table that is the subject of the insert.

As soon as I add the "instead of insert" trigger, the output clause on the insert statement does not return any data - although the insert completes successfully. As a result I am not able to obtain the identities of the inserted rows

Note that @@identity would return the correct value in the test repro below - but this is not a viable option as the table in question will be merge replicated and @@identity will return the identity value of a replication metadata table rather than the identity of the row inserted into my_table

Note also that in the test repro, the "instead of insert" trigger actually does nothing apart from the default insert, but the real world trigger has additional code.

To run the repro below - select each of the sections below in turn and execute them
1) Create the table
2) Create the trigger
3) Do the insert - note that table variable contains a row with column value zero - it should contain the @@identity value
4) Drop the trigger
5) Re-run the insert from 3) - note that table variable is now correctly populated with the @@identity value in the row

I need the behaviour to be correct when the trigger is present

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Case Statement Error In An Insert Statement

May 26, 2006

Hi All,
I've looked through the forum hoping I'm not the only one with this issue but alas, I have found nothing so I'm hoping someone out there will give me some assistance.
My problem is the case statement in my Insert Statement. My overall goal is to insert records from one table to another. But I need to be able to assign a specific value to the incoming data and thought the case statement would be the best way of doing it. I must be doing something wrong but I can't seem to see it.

Here is my code:
Insert into myTblA
(TblA_ID,
mycasefield =
case
when mycasefield = 1 then 99861
when mycasefield = 2 then 99862
when mycasefield = 3 then 99863
when mycasefield = 4 then 99864
when mycasefield = 5 then 99865
when mycasefield = 6 then 99866
when mycasefield = 7 then 99867
when mycasefield = 8 then 99868
when mycasefield = 9 then 99855
when mycasefield = 10 then 99839
end,
alt_min,
alt_max,
longitude,
latitude
(
Select MTB.LocationID
MTB.model_ID
MTB.elevation, --alt min
null, --alt max
MTB.longitude, --longitude
MTB.latitude --latitude
from MyTblB MTB
);

The error I'm getting is:
Incorrect syntax near '='.

I have tried various versions of the case statement based on examples I have found but nothing works.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this one. I've been smacking my head against the wall for awhile trying to find a solution.

...Contains More Than The Maximum Number Of Prefixes. The Maximum Is 3.

Oct 10, 2005

SQL Server 2000 8.00.760 (SP3)I've been working on a test system and the following UDF worked fine.It runs in the "current" database, and references another database onthe same server called 127-SuperQuote.CREATE FUNCTION fnGetFormattedAddress(@WorkID int)RETURNS varchar(130)ASBEGINDECLARE@Address1 As varchar(50)@ReturnAddress As varchar(130)SELECT@Address1 = [127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany.Address1FROM[Work] INNER JOIN[127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany ON [Work].ClientID =[127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany.CompanyIDWHERE[Work].WorkID = @WorkIDIF @Address1 IS NOT NULLSET @ReturnAddress = @ReturnAddress + @Address1 + CHAR(13)+ CHAR(10)RETURN @ReturnAddressENDSo now the system has gone live and it turns out that the live"SuperQuote" database is on a different server.I've linked the server and changed the function as below, but I get anerror both in QA and when checking Syntax in the UDF builder:The number name 'Zen.SuperQuote.dbo.tblCompany' contains more than themaximum number of prefixes. The maximum is 3.CREATE FUNCTION fnGetFormattedAddress(@WorkID int)RETURNS varchar(130)ASBEGINDECLARE@Address1 As varchar(50)@ReturnAddress As varchar(130)SELECT@Address1 = Zen.SuperQuote.dbo.tblCompany.Address1FROM[Work] INNER JOINZen.SuperQuote.dbo.tblCompany ON [Work].ClientID =Zen.SuperQuote.dbo.tblCompany.CompanyIDWHERE[Work].WorkID = @WorkIDIF @Address1 IS NOT NULLSET @ReturnAddress = @ReturnAddress + @Address1 + CHAR(13)+ CHAR(10)RETURN @ReturnAddressENDHow can I get round this? By the way, I've rather simplified thefunction to ease readability. Also, I haven't posted any DDL because Idon't think that's the problem!ThanksEdward

Data Mining :: MS Excel Data Mining Add-ins / Maximum Number Of Predict Columns

Jun 4, 2015

Having successfully created :

- a data mining structure with about 80 columns.
- a data mining model using Microsoft_Decision_Trees with 2 prediction columns.

I thought I would then explore the possibility of have more than 2 prediction columns, in this case 20.

I get an error message and I can't work out :
a) if this is because there's a limit to the maximum number of prediction columns and where that maximum is stated.
b) if something else has become corrupted
c) there's a know bug and if the error message is either meaningful or not.

Either way, I'm unable to complete the data mining wizard

The error message is :Errors in the metadata manager. Either the mining structure with the ID of '[my model Structure]' does not exist in the database with the ID of 'DMAddinsDB', or the user does not have permissions to access the object.

Insert Statement Which Uses A Return Value From An SP As An Insert Value

Jul 20, 2005

I'm quite stuck with this:I have an import table called ReferenceMatchingImport which containsdata that has been sucked from a data submission. The contents ofthis table have to be imported into another table ExternalReferencewhich has various foreign keys. This is simple but one of these keys says that the value inExternalReference.CompanyRef must be in the CompanyReference table.Of course if this is an initial import then it will not be so as partof my script I must insert a new row into CompanyReference andpopulate ExternalReference.CompanyRef with the identity column of thistable.I thought a good idea would be to use an SP which inserts a new rowand returns @@Identity as the value to insert. However this doesn'twork as far as I can tell. Is there a approved way to perform thissort of opperation? My code is below.Thanks.ALTER PROCEDURE SP00ReferenceMatchingImportAS/*Just some integrity checking going on here*/INSERT ExternalReference(ExternalSourceRef,AssetGroupRef,CompanyUnitRef,EntityTypeCode,CompanyRef, --this is the unknown ref which is returned by the spExternalReferenceTypeCode,ExternalReferenceCompanyReferenceMapTypeCode,StartDate,EndDate,LastUpdateBy,LastUpdateDate)SELECT rmi.ExternalDataSourcePropertyRef,rmi.AssetGroup,rmi.CompanyUnit,rmi.EntityType,SP01InsertIPDReference rmi.EntityType, --here I'm trying to run thesp so that I can use the return value as the insert value1,1,GETDATE(),GETDATE(),'RefMatch',GETDATE()FROM ReferenceMatchingImport rmiWHERE rmi.ExternalDataSourcePropertyRef NOT IN (SELECT ExternalSourceRefFROM ExternalReference)
