Good day community. I have a question about SQL Server 2005 Anywhere edition which i currently installed on my desktop. Does it fit my needs which stated on the subject? If no, what should i select for my projects?
I would like to know best practices for setting up my environment. To date, I've had everything running on a single server. That would include the database engine, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS. The box configuration is dual hyperthreaded 3.6GHz Xenon with 4GB of RAM on Windows Server 2003. I just received a much larger server and want to configure it to maximize our environment. The new box contains four 2.6GHz Quad Core processors with 16GB of RAM. I would like to know if I should split the ETL and database engine from SSAS and SSRS, or should this box have enough horse power to house it all and use my other box as a dev environment. Also, we are planning to purchase Performance Point 2007 primarily for PAS and Scorecard Manager so please take that into consideration as well. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

I'm looking to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition). I'm interested in using SSIS, SSRS and SSAS. I hear that BIDS runs inside of Visual Studio 2005, and comes with the SQL 2005 software. I currently have VS 2003. My question is: Do I need to purchase anything besides SQL Server 2005 Standard, or do I need to buy anything separately, like VS 2005? (if so, which version would you recommend?)

I've finally received my first official assignment using vb.net and SQL Server.
I have been developing / learning with both on the express editions.
I've also just run into some issues trying to access a SQL Server 2005 Express .mdf thru
SQL Server 2005 Pro.
We just couldn't get it to open. Connecting or Attaching etc...
We had to install SQL Server Express on the other PC to get it to open the SQL Server 2005 Express .mdf.

Now that I am ready to develop in ernest, I would like to setup my own controlled development environment.
Our target is a winforms application with a SQL Server 2005 Database for WinXP or Vista.
I'm ready to purchase Visual Studio 2005 Pro once I figure out the best development environment and SQL Server Version.
Specifically, once I've developed my winforms app, what issues do I need to consider to install a SQL Server 2005 database server / engine on a client / users machine?
Can I use the SQL Server 2005 Express?
Or perhaps there is an MSDE equivilant for 2005?
I can't seem to find any info regarding installation procedures for SQL Server in this regard.
(Perhaps its because I'm using the express editions?)
Any positive contructive help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking forward to a native 64-bit file-based database solution on Microsoft Windows platform. And I don't know why Microsoft didn't release the native 64-bit solution for JET engine (MDB file).
So, before I using this light-weight and file-based version of SQL Server, I will like to ask the question that the 64-bit version has been put into develop schedule?

I'm sure what I am trying to do is very simple - but I just can't seem to figure it out. I have a report based on a SSAS cube (SQL 2005). The report shows sales based on the dates the user selects from the parameter field (the date parameter field comes from a Y-Q-M-D hierarchy). This all works fine.
What I would like to happen is for the members within the last 3 months to be automatically selected so that the report automatically executes for the last 3 months.
Can anyone help or offer any advice. If possible I would like to achieve this using the GUI features so that power users can use the "plug and pray interface".

Has anyone managed to crack getting multi-select parameters to work from an SSRS 2005 report which is querying an SSAS 2000 cube.
SSRS 2005 does support Multiselect, however SSRS 2000 did not. Given that i am querying an SSAS 2000 cube, i get the impression that i am also limited to SSRS 2000 functionality regarding to multi-select parameters.
Is there anyone out there that ever managed to get a wor around, say by using filters on a table or anything really that coud simulate the same behaviour....

I need to move SSIS packages from our development server to our production server. I need to move those projects in a manner that would allow me to modify them on the destination server. The build option seems to move an executable only. Is there a way to move the entire package to another server?

Some of my research so far says the first message could be related to having ran a beta version of vs2005 on this system which I did. However the ordinary vs2005 asp.net project appear to run normally.

Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?

I am very keen to go into the BI area with SQL 2005, somebody suggested me to go more specialized in SSIS and SSAS. I heard there is a certified programme in BI track which was just launched last year by Microsoft, but I couldn't find the info anymore, could anybody here help providing some information for me to get started?
I do not have any MCSE yet. Is there a need to get some basic MCSE before jumping into the BI track?

We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.
SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.
So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.
However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.
I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €œsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.
What do I do next please?

I would like to use a stroed procedure within another stored procedure ( nested sp )
in a SQL project in VS.NET 2005. Since I have to use "context connection = true" as
connection string, I wont be able to use this connection for another sqlconnection
object. Because its already open. and If i try to use a regular connection string
("server=localhost;...") it will raise a security permission error. Having this
problem, Im not able to use nested stored procedures. Would anyone please give me a
hint how to resolve this issue?
Now, the developement in SqlServer Clr is obviously different from the develop in normal programs. there are many limitation in Clr develop, and it take many work to use dll alread exsits in Clr develop.
I do know that some limitation is reasonable, BUT much more limitation should be removed.
For example, now in order to use enum that exists in old dll in sqlServer, we have to create a new project and write many similar class to wrap the old enums, it's very troublesomely and slow!
so pls make the develop model consistent as possible.
Anyone out there developing or modifying packages w/ C# and the SSIS objects that I can compare notes with?

I have 6 SSRS reports for account receivable module. All of these 6 reports are for one specific business requirement. The difference between these reports are layout, number of columns and styles. I want user to choose one from these 6 reports based on their requirement.
When user clicks the menu in their application to initiate the report, Is there any way that the SSRS show list of these reports in a window so that user can choose one of them?
As I am working on a 3rd party ERP application, I cannot provide a form or window in that ERP to choose one report out of these 6 reports. I believe that there is a way to do this in Crystal report, but do not know how to do this in SSRS.

Very Simple one.
Two OLEDB connection for SQL Server.
I am trying to copy data from a server to another server by column mapping.The source Server is SQL 2000 and Destination is SQL 2005.Everything is ok.. like connections. As there are another two EXECUTE SQL Task, which are executing some sql in the destination server (SQL 2005).All all those two task is ok
But when i am debuging the project all the following errors occurs
1.[OLE DB Destination [121]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E23. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" Hresult: 0x80040E23 Description: "Cursor operation conflict".
2.[DTS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "OLE DB Destination" (121) failed with error code 0xC0202009. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
3.[DTS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED. Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the thread has exited.

Is it possible to deploy a report develped by 2008 on to ssrs 2005 server, if so does it work fine.....?
Say I created a new ssis Project and allowed the project to created a subfolder .. say both the project and subfolder are called x123.
I now want to rename the project to "Mycompany.MyProject" and want to remove the subfolder.
Possible?
Trying to avoid this, I made a copy of the parent folder, and manually tried to copy and paste all objects .. but am getting errors with connection manager entries.

I'm using SSAS 2005 cube as Data Source for my SSRS 2005 report. The report has parameters as well.
The requirement is that I want to pass parameters to the report using my own UI.
My questions are:
1. "How to pass parameters to my report using my UI?" I'm developing the UI using VS2003 (the client's requirement).
2. Is there any ReportViewer control available in Framework 1.x?
3. I'm also using a drilldown sub-report with the same report. I'm passing parameter values to the sub-report selecting the fields of my data. But when the sub-report is opened, it gives an error saying "The parameter 'X' is not assigned a value".
Can anybody help on any or all of these?

We're setting up a test and development envorinment and would like some advice on the best deployment of the SQL 2005 components.
Some people seem to advise to have
Machine1 SSIS & Database engine
Machine2 SSAS
Machine3 SSRS
Others say it's OK to put SSRS & SSAS on same box.
Others say it's fine to run all on one box.
Anyone have any rule of thumb advice or links to such ?

I have a have a relatively simple SSAS cube that I'm trying to display in a matrix but the order of the data is not correct. The rows of the matrix are a time hierarchy and the query designer produces the correct MDX and when I run the MDX in the data tab, the order is correct. However in the report preview tab, the order is incorrect. Specifically, the time hierarchy looks like this Year-Month-FullDate. The report is ordering the Months like this 1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. I ran the MDX query in Sql Studio and the order is correct, and I used Excel to consume the same cube and it produces the correct order.
The report is somehow treating the Month like character data instead of numeric, how do I fix this?
When I open BIDS it displays a list of "Recent Projects". How can I edit (or delete) items from this list? (Over time the list has acquired a lot of junk est projects that I no longer need).
