I work as Online Excel Developer and I develop analyzing and reporting applications downstream from all kinds of database or specialized applications from SQL to Oracle, SAP, etc.
To do the job (transforming data into information) I use the SUMPRODUCT function in 75% of the applications that I develop.
This function ignored by many is the function that makes Excel the best reporting tool. It allows the user to transform any database extract into a report. With it you can sum a column (amounts) based on ANY number of criteria located in other columns (account, city, product,...). It is simple to use yet one of the most powerful function in Excel for Accountants, Financial Analysts and Data Analysts.
There is an example on my website at:

I have a requirement where we have to connect to two different data-sources one is Database Table and another one is Excel Source. I know we can do this by creating a SSIS package and loading the excel data into database table and then based on some relationship between the tables we can create the data-set in SSRS. But I am looking for some other approach where I can do this without creating the SSIS package.
i am trying to using SSRS with Excel. in the BI Design(Visual Studio) wehn i preview the report i can see the report.but when i deploy it on the localhost and try to view the report in there.i get this error.please help

I would like to know whether i can export a report to excel from reporting services, with all the column width set to the max width of the text in it(AutoFit Column width), so that the excel report doesn't look cramped.
I am using SQL Server Reporting Service 2005. When I try to using Reporting Service Export to Excel Features, I found that the exported Excel file will have some border line among the cell. But it does not appear when i viewed it on the Web. Any idea how to remove the border line? And Why it happens?
Messages to the reporting services group get no attention, and Ihaven't been able to find anything on MS support so I am going to tryhere. We have a prticular report, that when exported to Excel throughReporting services exports fine, but has an additional Excel sheetlabeled DocumentMap with bogus code in it and it has the focus bydefault. There is another tab called Sheet1 which has the correctreport data. Any idea how to get rid of this DocumentMap tab/sheet?
I have a query on the export to excel.I have a report which i am export to excel but after exporting the excel shows the numbers as text and couldnt sum it up. what formating changes to be done to export the numbers as numbers?
The excel pivot table is very powerful for the user, with dragging and dropping fields at will on the web page, but I can only get it work when run from the web server directly. The data is in SS2000 300,000 rows, get external data in Excel, then publish pivot table as HTM with interactivity. It seems to look for c:myodbc.dsn in the C: drive of the pc the user is on rather than the server, and I cannot use IP Addressing to relate to the dsn file. any ideas ?
I manage a Sales MIS Reports System, which has been in Production since 2006 for a Pharma company. The web app is built on ASP.NET with SQL Server Reporting Server 2012. This May we migrated to SQL Reporting Services 2012, as IPad support for reports was required.
A Safari on IPad limitation which we knew of and documented was lack of "Export to Excel" feature for SSRS 2012 reports (only export to .PDF and .TIFF supported). The same report on a desktop browser allows me all export functionality.
But now an overwhelming number of IPad users have come back with the requirement to support "Export to Excel" on the IPad.We were also surprised to discover that few of these users were provided IPads last year and they were accessing the old SSRS 2008 R2 reports (even though we did not support it).
And these users were exporting reports to excel on the IPad since last year. These users are especially annoyed that we broke existing functionality while moving to a new version which was supposed to support IPads.
how we can provide the "Export to Excel" functionality for these IPad users.
I am adding some KPI-style graphics to a report (BIDS 2005) and for consistency I would like to use the same icons that are available in the Excel 2007 icon sets that are used for conditional formatting in spreadsheets - there's no point in having users learn another set of icons. Are these graphics available anywhere so they can be added as embedded images in a report? Am I missing some other way to do this?
i have a report (RDL) which gives output of around 100000 rows. i am using reporting service's web service from an aspx page to render this report to excel. this is giving error as excel sheet can accomodate only 65000 rows. how can i add second excel sheet and tranfer the remaining rows into that sheet. i need this desperately.
I am trying to get my ssrs report in an excel. I want the report to be displayed in a single excel sheet, however, I am getting multiple sheets. I have even tried the page break functionality and used the
expression(=IIF(Globals!RenderFormat.Name="EXCEL",TRUE,FALSE) in the tablix properties--> pagebreak--->disabled option.
I am very new to Reporting Services. What I would like to know is if there is anyway for me to consume the raw data on a specific report from within excel. That is, can I call a report from reporting services directly from excel.
Maybe someone can outline the supported interaction between excel and reporting services for me. I have been having lots of trouble locating information about the interaction between these two.
I want to run SSRS report directly by connecting Excel as a data source. The report runs properly from SSDT, but when it is run from Report manager, some users cannot access the Excel connection and the report execution fails. I am using SSRS 2012 and Excel 2010.I have created the ODBC data connection in SSRS and when I use 'Windows Integrated Security' option for credentials, the connection gets successful. But the problem is that all users does not have permissions to access the Excel inline, but they should get the report working. How can I store the credentials to access the Excel in SSRS with a specific username and password?
I have a table where I added several header rows above the details row and increased the row heights to 0.4in. The row height looks fine in preview, but when I export to Excel, it is as if I had not increased the row height. I have found through trial and error that if I place a textbox below my table and position it so that it is under the rightmost column of my table, then I get my desired row heights in Excel. If I remove the textbox or if it is not under the rightmost column then the row heights revert back to their original size. The textbox can be empty and still has the desired effect. i am using SQL Server 2008 RTM and VS 2008 SP1.
Can someone help debug this error while downloading to EXCEL format from RS? I notice that whenever i trim down the length of my report name, the error has not occurred.
I am exporting the ssrs report with Execl sheet but iam getting this error in excel sheet"The number in this cell is formatted as text or preceded by an apostrophe ".
Can someone help debug this error while downloading to EXCEL format from RS? I've notice that whenever I trimmed down the length of my report name, the error has not occurred.
1 I have summary and detail report into same page (Open below link for reference). Now i want highlight selected value after clicking in summary report for open detail report...
[URL]
2. I have a report with multiple link which one redirect to other reports. After exporting link is showing and able to open other reports from excel. I want disable link after exporting into excel. How can disable link after exporting in excel ?
is it possible to replicate this in SSRS I wonder??I have included the code of the fields used and a snapshot of some data, and also how the Pivot looks in Excel.
I need to have a report that will have formulas in excel. I understand that the limited support for exporting excel formulas has been dropped in SSRS 2008. Is there any way to work around this and still output formulas?obvioulsy the way to do it in previous versions of SSRS are not working (using report items). I tried to add my formulas in my dataset (I can know which excel cells I need in the formulas) but they end up being displayed as text. I then have to get in the excel file and enter and exit each cell so that it "becomes" a formula.
Hi -- I have a different problem than most people with a Reporting Services 2000 report rendering to Excel 2003.
My report has 5 different subreports. I want them to appear in Excel as 5 separate tabs. When rendered through the browser (using Report Manager), the page breaks are correct -- there are 5 pages.
When exported to Excel, the first report is on a separate tab, and the other 4 are jammed together on one tab.
Each report consists of between 1 and 4 tables. The last table on each report has the "page break after this table" checked.
The same report deployed to SSRS 2005 page breaks the way I expect in Excel. In SSRS 2000, it doesn't.
I need to export around 1 million records to excel. As we know that there is a limit of approx 65,000 rows in one worksheet so the exporting functionality is failing. One way is that I should be able to configure the Reporting Service in such a way so that once 65,000 records gets populated in the first worksheet, then the rest 35,000 records gets popultaed in the second worksheet.
I am not able to find out how this can be achieved in Reporting Services. Please help me in this.
I am creating a report in which i have used ranges .
i have used ranges inside a rectangle but when i preview the tablix ranges are coming Perfect concern is that during export to excel border of the rectangle comes only for one row and gets hidden for second row .and its working perfect when exporting to PDF .
I am having difficulty in exporting a report to Excel that has drill-down grouping created in SSRS 2008 R2. I can export with the report expanded or with just the summary and both look fine, but when it gets to Excel it looses the toggle ability which I need for it to retain.
To overcome the inability to manage the sheet tab names when exporting from Reporting Services to Excel, is there anyway to include a short macro with the exported Excel workbook to Auto_Run macro when the Excel file is opened to rename the tabs?
Currently, I have to manully create RS 2005 reports which I export into an Excel later. Is there a way to create a SSIS package that could automate this somehow?
