I am connecting to a MsAccess-database using ODBC. While developing the package we have changed mappings for this database. The ODBC was changed accordingly and the old definitions were deleted. However SSIS is still using the old ODBC-links even when deleting all existing connections and adding a new connection. Somehow the old settings have been saved and are being reused in the DataReader Source. If so where are they saved and how can I change/delete them ???? Note: I suspect the Server Explorer because every time I add a data connection using the ODBC, the Datareader Source starts using the wrong definition (even when Server Explorer uses the correct one).
Hi we have a table with about 400000 records in it. It starting to take longer and longer to add a new record. I was thinking of creating another identical table and archiving off most of the records every month (we are now adding about about 4000 records a day) . Is this the best thing to do? I don't know a lot about sql server so any help or suggestions would be great
Hi, We are trying to implement Service Broker between SQL Server Express and SQL Server on the Same machine and we are having problems with certificates. We are creating a certificate on SQL Server, backing up the certificate on a file system and then loading certificate on the SQL Server Express from the file and we are keep getting the following error: Msg 15208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The certificate, asymmetric key, or private key file does not exist or has invalid format.

If we run the script other way around, it works fine. If we use the SQL Server on some other machine, the script works fine. But only on the same machine, it throws this error. We made sure the permissions and everything. Let us know if there is any work around or what are we doing wrong.
Hey guys. I've an application which uses an account named Uaccount1. I've given it db_datareader and db_datawriter permissions to the tables. I've given it execute permissions to all sp's I've given it reference permissions to the symmetric key. And I gave it reference permissions on the certificate. At this point, it can't see the certificate. If I give control permission to the account for the certificate, it works perfect. Is it necessary to do that or am I missing something. Our security is based on symmetric key and certificates...
hi all, i want to create a service broker application between two different instances. can i achieve the dialog security and transport security with out using certificate? like we can achieve the transport security using windows authentication (both the instances are in same domain). so how to achieve the dialog security with out using certificates.
We have several SQL servers in our network. When we try to connect to any of these servers with SQL profiler, the connection is always made with the same server, irrespective of the servername we use. There is no default server name used in the setting of SQL profiler application.

The following code is taking longer and longer to run. I am not talking about the gradualy increase in size. this job has been taking 30-40 mins normaly and in the last few days it has gone 1hr to 2 hr to 3 hr... ANy ideas why this is happening? I can not see and other jobs running at this time.

We've been running a mirrored database (using certificates since we don't have a domain) and it's all working well. Last week we decided to add a witness for automatic failovers, but for some reason I just can not get the witness to connect to the Partner2 server.

Please help me troubleshoot this - I re-created the endpoints / users / certificates but it's still not working. Where can I get more information on what exactly the problem is? Can I test the endpoints somehow?
I am trying to connect to a sql server 2005 server using either windows auth or sql server auth but I can not. When I click on the connect button to connect to a server it never connects. I can not cancel once I press connect. It never times out after I press connect. I removed all registered servers that were registered previously. I have uninstalled all software that involved sql server (and sql2000) run a registry cleaner(not microsofts), installed the software to a new directory and still I can not connect to the sql2005 server (the only db).
Any ideas?
I am running Windows XP with latest services packs for both windows and sql server. I have visual studio 2005 installed on my machine and I have had sql express installed on it previously.
We have an Access application using Jet. I added some new indexes yesterday and now they are being blamed for poor Access application performance. I then dropped the new indexes. The poor performance continued until the Access application was re-linked to the SS2000 database. Then things returned to normal.
Question, does Access/Jet persist SqlServer schema info in its MDB (or elsewhere?) I am told that the MDB is copied from a share to the local PC where it grows during its use. Some people are saying the MDB persists schema info about the SS2000 schema which influences how Jet accesses the SS2000 database. Is that true? Is there a link where I can read about this? I am a dba and am not an Access developer . . .
Why does it take longer and longer for the same code to run very simply I have 8,0000,000 records I want to delete from a table . I have tried a few options
Option 1 a while loop which deletes 10,000 rows per loop starting from the earliest until it hits the cut of number I have set. THIS TOOK 5 HOURS
Option 2 created an SP which found the oldest 100,000 records then deleted them. If I run this SP manually it takes 30 €“ 60 secs. Which I thought was much better than above. So I put this SP in a while loop to run 80 odd times thinking the time it would take would be 80 mins a huge improvement.
But every time this SP is called it takes longer and longer (36,30,32,39,37,37,123,163,155,182€¦and so on(In seconds)).
All the sp is doing is as follows(8860000 is just to insure I don€™t delete to much). this sp is then called from in a while loop.

Currently I have a server that has two instances of SQL Server that areboth heavily used. We are moving the databases that are on the defaultinstance of this server to a new server. Since the old server willonly need one instance (the current named instance) of SQL Server isthere a good way to remove the default instance and make the namedinstance the default? If this change is possible will the name of thecurrent named instance need to be changed? Will all of the programscurrently accessing the named instance need to change their connectionstring?
I€™m experimenting with creating Certificates for SQL Server. I can create a certificate ok, using the Certification Authority Wizard, however when I go into SQL Server Configuration Manager and view Protocols for MSSQLServer/Properties and click on the drop down list for Certificate €“ there€™s nothing there. When I create the certificate using the Wizard, I€™m only given the following stores to use: Personal, Trusted Root Certification Authorities, Enterprise Trust, Intermediate Certification Authorities, Trusted Publishers, Untrusted Certificates, Third-Party Root Certification Authorities and Trusted People. Does anyone know where I should be Importing the certificate to, or have any tips on what I need to do to view the certificate there?

Hi all, I created a certificate in the master database so that my endpoint could use the certificate.
I dropped the endpoint and dropped the certificate and added a new one and created a new endpoint because the earlier one had a weak password.
Everything has been fine till we restarted the server. Master, model start up fine but now I am getting these errors.

I even copied the master database to a dev server and started it up deleted all certificates and endpoints but it gives the same error.
Are there limitations to express and certificates, i can create certificates in express. But when i try to import a certificate from another server (developer edition) into my express edition i get his error:

When i use the same certificate backup on non express editions it works 100% , is it not possible or must it be done differently ?
We just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 from SQL Server 2000. The DB was backed up using Enterprise Manager and restored with SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP. Everything went as expected (no errors, warnings, or any other indicator of problems).
The DB resides in a DB Server (Server1) and the application we are running is a Client/Server system where the AppServer resides on Server2.
During the application's operation all read, create, and delete transactions work fine but no update works. When viewing details in Trace Log I see this message after attempting any update:

I used to have both SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server Management Studio Express up running just fine until I installed (removed SQL 2005 Express) SQL Server 2005 for Developers and re-installed SQL Server Management Studio Express - now, SQL Server 2005 for Developers works, but I can not start SQL Server Management Studio Express? No error messages, simply nothing happens when I execute ssmsee.exe. Should I be using a different version of Studio?
for the third time I am installing SQL-Server 2005 express and i have an error.
Cannot install sql because .NET 2.0 framework is missing allthough I have the .NET 2.0 framework allready installed and even re-installed it too. When trying again I get the message that there isn't an SSL-certificate present.
My question is, would this probably cause the error when installing?
I was trying to install Sql Server Express 2005 using the setup made using Visual Studio 2005 Publisher Wizard, as a pre-requisite. During this i'm getting the following error...
"SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted."
What does this mean? Anyone is familiar with this, then pray please post a reply. I'm in the middle of nowhere now....
How do we install a certificate for enabling security on MS -SQL Server 2005? I tried to install through MMC but it says no " certificate authority found " . Any help will be highly appreciated , Thanks to you all in advance :-)
I must prepare a procedure which should export some data from some DB columns, but these data must be encrypted using the OpenSSL protocol, to be sent to an external recipient.This recipient sent to me a "public" certificate in PEM format, to what I understood (it is a file beginning with the expression "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----", then a long Base64 sequence and then "-----END CERTIFICATE-----").
Then I didn't create the certificate nor I am a certification authority: I just have this public key (or, at least, a file from which I can extract a public key) and I must use it to encrypt data in order to obtain an output which must be analogue to what I can obtain when using this OpenSSL command line instruction:openssl rsautl -encrypt -in CF.txt -out CF.enc -inkey SaniteICF.cer -certin -pkcs
Then the question is: starting from this PEM file and nothing else, can I import it and store an asymmetric key or a certificate in SQL Server and use it to encrypt data to be exported?
I upgraded my XP and when attempting to restart my web site using MSSQL 2005 my login credentials were not recognised. Now, the Databse does not want to start and I can not login to check error logs. I have enclosed the error message that I am experiencing.

I want to use a certificate with 10-years expiration date. I created a new template certificate, based on default computer certificate, and I only change expiration date to 10 years.
In SQL Server SSL configuration, I dont view this certificate. In only view certificate created with the "Computer" template (with validity period of 365 days). All others certificates based on template are invisible to SQL Server
How can I use a custom template instead of the default "computer" template ?
Hi I am trying to install SQLEXPRESS 2005 and i get this error: SQL Server Setup faild to retrieve the SSL Certificate Name and an OK button and when i hit the button, the installiatoin stops. The Event log shows this: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 1603. SQL Server Setup failed to retrieve the SSL Certificate Name.
I see the following error on the sql server log of one of our sql servers running sql 2000 with sp4. SQL Server has encountered 1964 occurrence(s) of IO requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file [h: empdb.mdf] in database [tempdb] (2). The OS file handle is 0x00000534. The offset of the latest long IO is: 0x0000002b09e000
Any idea as to what might be causing this error. Appreciate any comments.
