Sep 5, 2006Hi everybody, I created several stored procedure in a local sql server 2005 express database, now when I call/execute them in the asp.net 2.0 web page, it returns an error message of "Cannot find the stored procedure '<proc_name>'", this is funny, when I execute the commandin a sql query window "exec sp_GetAllArticles", it also returns cannot find stored procedure, but when I execute the "Use <DBName>" and thenexecute the statement, it works. The sql connection used in codes is ok. I have the file SQLEXPR_ADV which i presume is Advanced Services , installed it, no sign of SSIS !?

Cannot Install SQL Server Express On Vista Ultimate - Cannot Find MS SQL Server Native Client
Apr 5, 2007I am trying to install SQL Server Express - (the non ADV version) and get the following error.
"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'".
I have 64 bit Vista Ultimate running on an HP dv9000.
I am using the download from the bottom of the download page for SSX where it says 64 bit version.
Prior to this I got the. "64-bit ASP.net is registered. Required 32-bit ASP.NET to install Microsoft Reporting services 2005(32-bit)." messagd during the pre-install scan. From what I gather in the posts, the reporting issue is different from my installation package problem.
I have been trying to prove a point to friends about how far you can go with SSX but am having no luck installing it. This whole process took 1 hour in XP but I've been stymied for 2 days.
I would appreciate being pointed at the right downloads for what seems to be a simple install.

Is LoginMode still in some subfolder of that, or has it been moved to another place? Perhaps a differently named key is now used. Or perhaps it's configured in a config file for SQL Sever 2012 express.

Cannot Find Management Studio Express

I had SQL Server Express installed for a few months now just for testing and learning without any problems. Yesterday, I found this learning video and decided to install “SQL Server Reporting Services" as shown in this lesson 10 video. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/learning/default.aspx
When I was trying to install Reporting Services along with, something called Web Components and Backward compatibility were not being installed. So I decided to go to my control panel and uninstall everything for SQL server 2005 and then reinstall it.
This worked and Reporting Services Configuration was installed, but I cannot find the "Management Studio Express" feature in the ALL Programs area.
Whenever I try to reinstall it again the install does not go through and I get a message saying. quote: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Setup
None of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel.

Sql Express Web Sync, Can't Find Snapshot?
Nov 12, 2007I'm using RMO to set up MergePullSubscription to a SQL Express database, the server is running SS2k5.
The subscription gets created just fine, and web sync seems to be working, going to replisapi.dll?diag in my new virtual directory returns no errors.
When creating the publication on the server (using management studio for this) the snapshot is created, and stored in the snapshot share. Creating the publication seems to go without any issues. When I open the "Configure Web Synchronization" wizard, and point it to my new snapshot share, it ALWAYS says that the snapshot folder appears to be empty, which it isn't.
I get an error when I attempt to sync the databases that I believe is caused by Web Sync not being able to find the snapshot. Here's the output from triggering the sync via RMO.

I'm using a free cert for testing, hence the non-FQDN name SandBox, but I have added the root CA to my machine, and don't get any cert errors when visiting the ?diag page in my browser.
Any ideas? I've been beating my head against the same wall for 2 days now!

I am trying to look up records by the first letter of the last name in SQL Express ADO recordsets.
"Select * from people where people.lastname like 'a%'"
works correctly. (a*) works also.

Does not work, does not find anything, but if I use 'a %' ('a<space>%') it finds the first last name starting with a.
Why does a% not work. Can you not use wild characters in Find Statements in SQL Express?

I dont find sql management express in the program folder of sql server 2005. i find configuration manager but dont find the sql server management express. If the program is deleted also then the shortcut is deleted but not the whole program.

I know there are already several bug submissions on this error, and I am sure the cryptoAPI team is working to resolve this issue.. However... Is it possible that the CAPICOM update (KB931906) could have contributed to this issue? In my instance, I installed SQLServer 2005 Express w/ Adv Tools SP2 after a freash XP install. I checked it out, and everything worked fine. I updated windows (online) and now it gives this error. In fact, I cannot even run the un-install because the setup utility also hits the following error (as taken from the log file):

Apr 26, 2007 I'm getting a specific error when i try to run a .sql script for a Custom TableProfileProvider ,when i Parse the .sql file Commands execute perfectly. But when i actually "Execute" the .sql script i get the following error. It will produce the table but with "Errors" which dosn't do anyone any good to have errors in the table. I even used the Sql Server Surface Area Configuration to add a new Administrator with the name listed below (WYATT-PCWyatt), that didnt help either..Here is part of the Sample Scheme the problem lies in the [YOURMACHINENAMEASPNET]

I installed C# with SQL Server Express, however I wanted to add the Full Text Searching and the SQL Server Management Studio Express, so I downloaded and installed the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1. When I installed it over top of my current installation, it complained of version mismatching, and then C# failed to recognize that I had SQL 2005 Express installed at all.
What I'd like to know is, which version is more current (they have to be different, they had different version numbers, one was 9.xx.xxxx the other was 2005.9.xx.xxxx) The one bundled with C#, or the SP1 downloadable one.
Firstly, I want to be up todate as far as security patches, and Secondly, how do I add the full text searching and SSMSE to the one bundled with C# without breaking it.

I'm a newbie and I have a problem that i can't solve despite sitting here all day trying to wortk it out.
I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 along with the associated toolkit. Previous to that i installed MS Visulal studio 2005, .NET 2.0 and MSDN.
The problemn is that it appears despite installing everything i don't have SQLExpress services running on my PC. I have admin rights, it installed okay but there is nothing to connect to.
When i run "sqlcmd.exe -s (local)SQLExpress -E" from the command prompt i get the following message:

When i run SQL Server Configuration there is no "SQLExpress" service present under "SQL Server 2005 Servcies" in SQL Server Configuration dialog; just a message saying:
"there are no items to show in this view"
When i run Surface Area Configuration i get the following message:

SQL Server Management Studio Express, Database Explorer In Visual Web Developer Express...which To Use???
Apr 16, 2007When I downloaded/started using Visual Web Developer I was under the impression that I needed to install SQL Server Management Studio Express in order to create/manage databases, and to provide the engine to access the data.
Since then I have found tutorials and have successfully created/used databases solely from within Visual Web Developer. I'm assuming that Visual Web Developer includes a database engine, much like the webserver that is included. (This is an awesome thing).
When I tried to upload my web application with database to my production server, the database would not work, it started working after I installed SQL Server Management Studio Express on the server.
Is it my understanding that you need SQL Server Management Studio Express if you do not have Visual Web Developer Express installed in order to provide the data access engine?
Also, I am unable to "attach" my Visual Web Developer Express created database to SQL Server Management Studio Express. Are there any posts that provide more information about this topic?
The only reason I'm asking is that I have extra whitespace on the end of my text fields, and I thought ANSI_PADDING was turned on. I do not see the option in Visual Web Developer Express, but have found it in SQL Server Management Studio Express.

(Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. I have SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed in a Microsoft Windows XP Pro PC that is a terminal PC in our office Network. My Network Administrator has granted my terminal PC for Administrator Use. I tried to do the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my terminal PC and I could not get a remote connection in the Window Form Application via Window Authorization. I do not know how to make this kind of remote connection in my Network. Please help and advise.

For the first time, I want to set up the configuration of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to allow me in doing the non-User-Instance/ADO.NET 2.0 programming from my VB 2005 Express. The SSMSE and VB 2005 Express are in my Windows XP Pro PC that is part of our NT 4 LAN System in our office. I read the article "How to configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remotre connections" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277/ about (i) "Enable remote connections for SQL Server 2005 Express", (ii) Enable the SQL Server Browser service", (iii) Create exception in Windows Firewall, and (iv) Create an exception for the SQL Server Browser service in Windows Firewall. I entered the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration and I could not decide what options I should take for doing the non-User-Instance/ADO.NET 2.0 programming from my VB 2005 Express. I have the following questions on the page of "Minimize SQL Server 2005 Surface Area":
(1) I saw "Configure Surface Area for localhost [change computer]". I clicked on [change computer] and I saw the
following: Select Computer

Specify a computer to configure: O Local computer

Should I choose the "Local computer" or the "Remote computer" option?

Import Existing Database Into SQL SERVER EXPRESS Management Studio Express

Hi,
I am a newbie so i apologies beforehand for any mistakes i make on this forum.
Anyway, i created an asp.net website using the MS Visual Web developer tool. This has a couple of SQL SERVER databases within it.
I then latervinstalled the SQL SERVER management studio express in order to manage the SQL SERVER DBs that i had as part of my website but they do not appear within the management studio db list.
As this is the express version, is there anyway of importing the existing SQL SERVER dbs that i have to the management studio so i can manage them from there?

I Can No Longer Connect To My SQL Server Express 2005 From Manager Studio Express
Sep 28, 2006Everything was working fine. I have been able to connect using windows authentication. Then, I went into the ODBC manager to add a data source and it failed to connect so I went back into the Server management studio to modify users. After doing this I now get an error when I try to conenct the management studio to the SQL server.
I wasn't modifying the login for my windows account that I normally use, I was modifying a different one, however I now get the message "An error has occured while establishing a connection to the SQL server. This kind of problem can ocure because the default behavior of the server does not support all connection methods" blah blah.
Does anyone know how I can attach to the server? Or, do I need to somehow remove the server and create a new one? How would I do that?

Problems Of Remote Connections For Creating A SQLCLR Project In SQL Server Express-ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express Via Network/LAN

In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

Troubleshooting tips:
Store application data in isolated storage.
When deploying an Office solution, check to make sure you have fulfilled all necessary requirments.
Use a certificate to obtain the required permission(s).

Can't Connect To SQL 2005 Express With SQL Server Management Studio Express
Mar 10, 2006I've seen the following error posted when people try to connect to their server via their applications but didn't see anyone having problems when trying to connect with SQL Server Management Studio Express. Am I missing something here? This is the error:<<An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)>>The server is not remote so I don't see why I need to enable remote connection. I am also using the default connection settings.
