Jul 20, 2005The pimary server has crashed. I couldn't able to runsp_change_primary_role procedure. I ran sp_change_secondary_role insecondary server which is giving errors. sqlmain.exe failed. Anyideas?

I am trying to implement a log shipping scenario in sql 2005 where the secondary server is in standby mode with the ability to roll change during failover.
With the help of BOL (ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/udb9/html/2d7cc40a-47e8-4419-9b2b-7c69f700e806.htm) I can implement my scenario in Recovery mode, but not in standby mode. I use the following sql to put my primary in standby
BACKUP LOG [database]
TO DISK = @filename
WITH STANDBY = 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBackupROLLBACK_UNDO_database.BAK'
GO
which works, but then my restore job fails on the last step. How can I put my primary db in standby mode in such a way that the log shipping restore will work?

Log Shipping Stuck On First File
Apr 29, 2002I have log shipping set up between 2 servers. It works fine for 4 db's but will not work for the 5th. I have removed and recreated the log shipping again for this DB. (THe DB is actually not being used in production yet) What happens is the complete setup goes fine and the process starts. I come back after a few hours and notice the job is failing. WHen I go to the monitor side it shows the copy and restore work fine. The problem is that it keeps doing the file named db_name_initial_file.trn over an over again. Even though new files are being copied over, they are never restored, it just gets stuck on this one. Anyone seen this before?

May 31, 2015Am just on the lookout to find out whether there is a way to put a prefix at the beginning of the transaction log backup file that is created by SQL Server logshipping.
So, instead of having <DatabaseName>_<DateTime>.BAK (which is what SQL does), I would like to have TL_<DatabaseName>_<DateTime>.BAK.
I have looked into a parameter for the sqllogship.exe command, but cannot find any & have looked at fields in the logshipping tables, & can't see anything there either.
File Move While DB In Recovery - Log Shipping
Apr 10, 2008I have a warm standby (secondary server) receiving log shipping files.
The database has 5 files all in the primary filegroup. Two of the files need to be moved from one hard drive to another. Whats the best way / process to accomplish the move and re-establish the log shipping recovery status?

I have a package A which is copied from another existing package B as most of the data structure and ETL mappings are same.
What I need to change in Package A is to change the file in Flat File Connection Manager. I can change it in the conneciton manager editor. However, it is automatically changed back to the previous one everytime when I try to Save All or run the package.
I also tried to copy/paste this Flat File Connection Manager in the same package but samething happen. The package file is not set 'Read Only" so anything else can Saved well except for the File name in connection manager.
Is this a bug? It would be very appreciated if anyone can give me any idea about this.

we are using windows schedular for that.
we will have one new flatfile everyday.
Is there any process to attach this file to flat file source dynamically?
The requirement is,
The flat file should be able to read the new flatfile everyday.
we have no option change it manually, the flatfile source should have to take the file automatically at that time.
So that it can take that flatfile and load it into database table.
SQL 2012 :: Transaction Log Shipping Secondary Error - Tuf Is Not A Valid Undo File For Database
Jun 18, 2015I received an alert from one of my two secondary servers (all servers are running 2012 SP1):
File 'E:SQLMS SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAMyDatabaseName_DateTime.tuf' is not a valid undo file for database 'MyDatabaseName (database ID 8). Verify the file path, and specify the correct file.
The detail in the job step shows this additional information:
*** Error: Could not apply log backup file 'MyDatabaseName_DateTime.trn' to secondary database 'MyDatabaseName'.(Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.LogShipping) ***
*** Error: Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_headerVersion == HEADER_7_0) failed. Values are 0 and 1.

Starting a few minutes later, the Agent Job named LSRestore_MyServerName_MyDatabaseName fails every time it runs. The generated log backup, copy, and restore jobs run every 15 minutes.
I fixed the immediate problem by running a copy-only full backup on the primary, deleting the database on the secondary and restoring the new backup on the secondary with NORECOVERY. The restore job now succeeds and all seems fine. The secondaries only exists for DR purposes - no one runs reports against them or uses them at all. I had a similar problem last weekend on a different database that is also replicated between the same servers. I've been here for over a year, and these are the first instances of this problem that I've seen. However, I've now seen it twice in a week on the same server.

Can we switch database recovery model when log shipping is turned on ?
We want to switch from Full Recovery to Bulk Logged Recovery to make sure Bulk Insert operations during the after hours load process will have some performance gain.
Is there any possibility of loosing data ?

Log Shipping: How To Failback After A Failover Log Shipping?

I 'm sure I am missing something obvious, hopefully someone could point it out. After a failover log shipping, I want to fail back to my inital Primary server database; however, my database is marked as loading. How can I mark it as normal?
I did the failover as follow:
I did a failover log shipping from the 2 server Sv1 (Primary) and Sv2 (Secondary) by doing the following
1) Stop the primary database by using sp_change_primary_role (Sv1)
2) Change the 2nd server to primary server by running sp_change_secondary_role (Sv2)
3) Change the monitor role by running sp-change_monitor_role (Sv2)
4) Resolve the log ins - (Sv2)
5) Now I want to fail back - I copy the TRN files to Sv1 - use SQL Ent to restore the database at point in time. The task is done; however, the database is still mark as loading. I could not use sp_dboption.
I appreciate any suggestion.

Same UID Can't Be Written To Database

I make an entry to my registration form, write it to the database; then the next registration entry displays an error that the same UID can't be written to the database. How Can I Check When Something Is Written In A DB?

i have following problem:
I have a DB with 4 tables in MSSQL6.5. In those tables write an NT service (4 threads for each table) 24h/day. I want to know somehow when i have no write in one of those tables for more than 1-2 hours (i dont want to querry those tables everytimes). MSSQL6.5 offer this kind of facilities? Or I can do this using stored procedures or something else?

Is My SProc Written Correctly?
Dec 31, 2005I am very new to SQL server and I'm using stored procedures for my program. So far I wrote one tonight, that works just fine.
I haven't really written one before, but its kind of similar syntax since I know C++/C# and VB.
My question is, even though this works for what I need it do, is it written correctly? Can you see any problems with it, or would you have done it differently?
I want to make sure its done correctly, and it runs as fast as possible.

Num Of Checks Written In 4 Day Period For More Than $400
Apr 25, 2006I have a transaction table which has Date as datetime field, amount and account number. i want to find out count of checks that were written in a period of 4 days which exceeded i.e. > $400, between 401 and 500, > 501 for a single month. the table has data for more than a year and i want the results then grouped in monthly format like in
OCT between 300 & 400 #30 (30 customers gave checks total worth $300-$400 within any 4 consecutive days period in the month of OCT )
between 400 & 500 # 20
> 501 # 10
NOV between 300 & 400 #30
between 400 & 500 # 20
> 501 # 10
and so on for a 6 month period.
LOB Is Written Into Wrong Filegroup

I've a table with a nvarchar(max) column on Filegroup2. While inserting a lot of big datas (Word documents, each 2.5MB), the primary filegroup is growing - but the Filegroup2 remains still on its creation size.
Is that a bug? By the way, i ve dropped the table and recreated on the other filegroup, after that i've restartet the SQL 2005 Service.
Someone experience?

I feel converting this .CSV to .XLS is good way to importing the log thru DTS. Is there any command/ script to change the file type .CSV to .XLS, so that i can include this one into DTS Step.

Feb 27, 2007Hey guys, I had purchased a program that generates full operational asp.net pages from an access db. I was unfamiliar with the language, and so that was the route I took. After disecting it and studying I've learned a bit and made it work in my environment. However, I now need to migrate everything over to mssql. I got the db portion down and now I'm trying to modify my scripts to point to a sql db rather than an access db. I thought it was going to be relatively simple but it's proving to be quite a challenge for me.Was wondering if anyone could check my work.

1) Am I connecting to the sql db properly? 2) some sites say I have to put a connection string in the web.config file, is that true?3) Does any one have any references I can goto, I'm having some trouble finding a good article that lays down exactly what needs to go where in an sql asp.net environment.

Additional Column To Table Not Getting Written To..
Feb 27, 2008I added one crummy column to my table. I updated the stored procedure and added the thing to the aspx page which is my form for adding an article. I have a strong feeling that something is foul over here...Why is it that Visual Studio will not allow me to capitalize the word get and when I delete the () after ShortDesc they immediatlye reappear and the get statement is set to get. Every other one of them, and there are 9 others use GET and there is no () after the public property variable name. Does anyone know the reason for this?

Oct 16, 2006I have a 3 data flows with an oledb source, a script component and a sql server destination that reports success and that it wrote the rows to the table in question. However, the rows are not written to the SQL Server 2005 table that is the destination. I have many other data flows in the same package that work exactly the same way that insert the rows they should insert in the destination table.
An example of the message I get indicating success is as follows:
[DTS.Pipeline] Information: "component "SQL Server Destination" (75)" wrote 289 rows.
Has anyone else seen this behavior or have an idea what might be wrong? Why would the data flow report success when the rows were not, in fact, inserted in the destination table?

We're trying to launch a SSIS package throw a webservice. This WebService loads a configuration file with "myPackage.ImportConfigurationFile(pathConfig)" and assigns values to some variables with "myPackage.Variables.Item(Parameters.Keys.Item(i)).Value = Parameters.Item(i)". Seems to work.
I we execute the webmethod of the WebService, this works but only when we execute first time, the SSIS finished succesfully. But when we execute a second time the Webmethod, we've a lot of failure with messages:
The result of the expression "@[User::Email]" on property "ToLine" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property.The result of the expression ""The Import of " + @[User::ExcelFile]+ " is successful"" on property "MessageSource" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property.

Nothing Written In View History Table

acutally i have setup a Disaster Recovery plan for my database.. i m taking a full back once in a week,. i dont' know when i right click on the job and trying to check the view history option to check when was last backup has been taken, it's showing nothing..but when i check on acutall location the backup was taken there.. i don't know y it's not writing any info in view history table.. or is it clear once in a week and i cann't see that...
Can any one tell's me about this...
