my requirement is to store "Worked Hours in a day by an employee" in the field say, 9 hrs and 30 mins.
I should be able to manipulate data in this field such as total hours present in the month, extra hours worked in a day (considering 9 hrs as standard time),less hours worked in a day, and so on

What data type do you recommend be used for their storage? We expect only limited joins and user visibility on this column. We may wish to create an index on this column. We think varchar and varbinary are the two major choices.
Bulk Insert Task Failing On Data Type Conversion For A Destination Column Of Type Bit
Jul 6, 2006I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.

Dec 20, 2005I was working on figuring out where a certain application wasstoring the multiple selection choices I was doing through the app.I finally figured out that they were being store in an IMAGEdata type colum with the variable length of 26 bytes.This is the first time I ran into such way of storing multipleselections in a single Image data type.Is this a better alternative than to store into a One-to-Manytables? The problem is that the datatype of these keys defaults to DT_UI8. Which SQL Server 2005 datatype should I use to store these values in my staging tables? BIGINT corresponds to DT_I8, which can't accept DT_UI8 values.

Now, a table is having column name with '(' . For example name of the column is, ColumnName(). In this case we can not convert into XML using For XML clause. Showing error as,
Column name 'columnName()' contains an invalid XML identifier as required by FOR XML; '(' (0x0028) is the first character at fault.

Oct 17, 2015We have a typical issue with Column Store Index, we have a procedure which does 2 activities - Switch & Reverse Switch
Switch:
1. Fetch the Partitions needed to be switched
2. Switch the data from Main Table to Switch table
2. Disable the Column store on Switch table
SSIS Package:
3. Load data to Switch (Insert / Update)
Reverse Switch:
4. Enable the Switch
5. Switch back the data from Switch table to Main table
Issue: Some time the Column store is not getting disabled, and the package fails complaining try disabling the Column store index and try loading data.
If we re-run the procedure, the column store gets disabled.
