Why VS2005 Create Partial Class For SQLCLR Objects

Jul 4, 2007

I have noticed that VS2005 create partial class for SQLCLR objects(Stored Procedure, UDF , ecc.)

Is this partial need ?

Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345135.aspx is shown an example that do not use partial attribute.

Many thanks

Is It Possible To Create A Class Library That I Can Import Inside Script Components In My Package?

Dec 27, 2007

Good day everyone,

I have a package that loads data from a flat file, performs some transformations and then inserts the final data into a DB destination. The keys for the different DB records are generated in Script components in the Data Flow Tasks.

My question is concerning the Key Generation and I'll try to explain it on a simple example.

Package Structure:

The Control Flow contains two Data Flow tasks.
Each of the Data Flow Tasks contains a Script Component responsible for generating the keys of the records to be loaded during this data flow.

The code of the Script component is the following:

Code Block
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper

Public Class KeyGenerator

' Field Definitions '
Private seed1 As Integer
Private seed2 As Integer

' Constructor '
Public Sub New(ByVal dbSeed1 As Integer, ByVal dbSeed2 As Integer)
.....
End Sub

' Generates the keys according to the seeds retrieved from the DB '
Public Function getNextKey() As Int64
...
...
Return generatedKey
End Function

End Class

Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent

Private generator As New KeyGenerator(7, 5)

Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)

....
Row.NewKey = generator.getNextKey()

End Sub
End Class

Questions:
As you can see the KeyGenerator class code gets duplicated in each Script Component, which is definitely a bad practise. What I wish to do is to create the KeyGenerator class and deploy it as a library "somewhere". Then, in each Script Component, I should only import the KeyGenerator class.

1. Is that possible?

2. If yes, how can I do this?

3. If not, what is a best practise you would recommend which allows me to avoid this code duplication of the KeyGenerator class?

Thanks in adavance,
Samar

Not Able To Create DB Objects From Vb Script

Oct 4, 2007

Hi All,
I have a SQL script which has creation of some table variables. When I run this query in Query Analyzer, I get proper results. But, when I use the same script to execute from VB Script, it is not running at all. I tried a simple select statement which works fine; but with the one I want to run, it fails to run. I am trying to print the SQL script from VB script, and it appears to be fine. I think the creation of DB objects is where it is getting stuck. Any help here please??

Below is the SQL Script.

Code Block

) AS RESTARTS
DECLARE @NOCLUE TABLE (NAME VARCHAR(100))
SELECT 'The Server '+ NAME+' did not have any restart information. Please Check.' FROM @COMPSINGRP WHERE NAME NOT IN (SELECT NAME FROM @COMPRESTARTS)

Any help or suggestion would help me out. Thanks a lot.

Can't Create Or Edit Existing Objects From SQL SRV 7.0

May 4, 1999

Hello,

I just upgraded our existing 6.5 installation with the new SQL server 7.0. I can't get any of the existing stored procedures which I imported from 6.5 into 7.0 to allow me to edit them. I do all of my design from Visual InterDev and the SQL Server 6.5 version would allow me to create and edit stored procedures. It would also allow me to create/design new tables.

With SQL Server 7.0 I do not have an option to edit or create any of these items. I have created a new login, assigned it a password, given it admin rights/roles and I am still unable to remotely create these items. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any assistance

How Can I Automatic Create All That Objects In Assembly In Simple Way ??

Jan 12, 2006

Hi

I use SQL code snippet to attach the CLR assembly (dll) to the SQL Server Express

CREATE ASSEMBLY [DatabaseAndImages]
AUTHORIZATION [dbo]
FROM 'C:CLR_File.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = SAFE

That file content CRL Codes for 10 Stored Procedures & 3 UDT & 5 Functions & 6 Triggers
As you can see it's content large amount of DB objects !!

My Question is ..
Is there any simple way can I use it to extract or automatic create all that Objects in the Database without use separate SQL Statement for each one ??

By Example , I will use this SQL statement to create the sp_AddImage that already located inside the CLR dll file

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_AddImage]
       @ImageID [uniqueidentifier],
       @ImageFileName [nvarchar](max),
       @Image [varbinary](max)
WITH EXECUTE AS CALLER
AS
EXTERNAL NAME [DatabaseAndImages].[StoredProcedures].[sp_AddImage]

But as you know .. I have many objects .. and I am in development phase and I will do change to that object many time and also may I will add much more €¦

I thing it's not good to write SQL Statement for each object and do changes every time when I change the object definition

Is there any one line of SQL statement can I use it to automatically create and extract all the objects inside the assembly ??
Or is there any way to do that Issue by simple operation ??

And thanks with my best regarding

Create SSIS Package To Script Out DB Objects (1 File Per Object)

Nov 29, 2007

We are in the process of trying to automate our production releases (what a concept ;-)

The database is SQL server 2005
All objects are being stored in VSS
Using Nant and Cruise Control for the actual migrations.
I have two directories - Create (for a brandnew database) and Change (db object changes)

In my 'Change' script, I do the following -

1 - Take backup of database
2 - Migrate objects from 'change' directory to production
3 - Script out all objects of database and save in the 'Create' directory

For the #3, I was hoping I could create an SSIS package that would
script out all database objects and save them on the VSS server.

I'm new to SSIS and want to verify it's something that can be done before I start down that path.
If anyone has any examples or references, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

At this time, a large number of logon failed ,error message is  "Logon failed for login 'login name' due to trigger execution."

Below is a code snippet showing what I have so far.

The first insert statement works fine - but how to retrieve the identifier created by the DB - I want to use an SQL statement that finds the record in the table based on the XML representation (of the PluginInfo), allowing me to insert the ConfigurationInfo with the correct reference to the PluginInfo

SQLCLR Web Service

May 9, 2008

I'm having a problem executing a SQLCLR function: this function
calls a web services that processes a query to a data base and
returns a table to be used in a stored procedure. In a low
concurrency scenario (not to many clients connected), the function
returns correctly, however when the concurrency level is increased
we have a SQLCLR command execution problem (all the SQLCLR
processes hangs), making the server unavailable to all web services
processes.

At first we thought the problem could be the SQLCLR, since the web
services is 100% available, all the time. We monitored to come to
this conclusion. Do you know of some SQLCLR bug?

Could someone help me with this? I'm in a difficult situation with
my client, considering that we defended the MS SQLServer technology
and now it's not working properly.

CreateProcessAsUser In SQLCLR

May 15, 2006

I'll keep trying new threads here... sooner or later, I'm sure an expert Microsoft CLR employee will gladly lend a helping hand!

The pieces:

1. SQL 2005, MS Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, SP 1

2. .NET 2005/C#

3. Instance of SQL 2005 running locally.

Trigger on local SQL2005 DB table INSERT calls 2 CLR Functions:

1. Retrieve data from SQL2005 DB table and populate local DBF through OLEDB

2. Call external 16-bit application (written in Clipper) that iterates through local DBF records (added from step 1 above) and populates DBF on domain resource.

Step 2 detail:

External 16-bit application is called by CreateProcessAsUser after impersonating token.

THIS IS SUCCESSFUL - IF: I populate SQL2005 DB table using TSQL insert statement. The trigger executes, Step 1 and Step 2 execute perfectly!

THIS IS UNSUCCESSFUL - IF: The SQL2005 DB table is populated by synchronizing SQL Mobile Server database from a SQL Mobile Edition 2005 PDA emulation. The trigger executes. Step 1 executes perfectly. Step 2 executes without exceptions. HOWEVER, the 16-bit application does not execute! Remember, no exceptions. In fact, the result variable returns true from function below:

result = ProcessUtility.CreateProcessAsUser(

hDupedToken,

null,

@"C:MobileDBMobile.exe",

ref sa, ref sa,

false, 0, IntPtr.Zero,

@"C:MobileDB", ref si, ref pi

);

Also, if I Right-click on the Step 2 function in the Server Explorer and click "Execute", it works perfectly. Domain DBF is updated successfully.

So, in short CLR "CreateProcessAsUser" is not doing it's job when the trigger is fired after SQL 2005 DB is populated via replication/sychronization. I would appreciate a response... Thx!

Caching Inside SQLCLR

Running Process() Within SQLCLR

May 11, 2006

By using impersonation I am able to push data to network path / old fashioned DBF's. Of course, I must use unsafe. I am unable, however to successfully run a "cmd.exe" process(), even if I populate the Username, Domain and password (with securestring). It authenticates correctly (checked by giving wrong password or bad username). But when it runs (even just a "cmd.exe"), I get an access is denied error...

StreamWriter sw = File.CreateText("C:\Error.txt");

WindowsIdentity clientId = null;

WindowsImpersonationContext impersonatedUser = null;

clientId = SqlContext.WindowsIdentity;

impersonatedUser = clientId.Impersonate();

System.Security.SecureString password = new System.Security.SecureString();

foreach (char c in "secret")

password.AppendChar(c);

Process p = new Process();

ProcessStartInfo si = new ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe");

si.UserName = "MyName";

si.Password = password;

si.Domain = "MySecretDomain";

si.UseShellExecute = false;

try

{

p.StartInfo = si;

p.Start();

}

catch (Exception ex)

{

//handle the exception here (This exception handler will not handle the exception, but I get a

//Window popup (While executing my CLR!!!)

}

finally

{

sw.Close();

}

The message popup says: The application failed to initialize poperly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. I'm kind of at a loss...

I'm using a Windows 2003 server box with the latest SQL Server 2005, .NET 2.0/2005. Let me know if you need anything else.

Oh, just FYI - I am moving replicated data from SQL2005 server to a legacy app using DBF (FoxPro driver). I really need an external DOS app to process some data for the DOS application (Clipper).

Bulk Insert Using SQLCLR

Oct 4, 2007

I am searching for a way of using SQLCLR to do Bulk Insert/Copy within SQL Server 2005.
I am not permit to use SQL command BULK INSERT with any of text based file csv, or xml etc.
I did tried to use SqlBulkCopy within SQLCLR but failed, the context connection was not allowed, I did also use normal connection string with sa & pwd but no luck.

I understand that I can move bulk insert to a service such as windows, web or WCF but it is not on the card at present.
Is there a way of doing this within CLR, size of bulk is fair about 2000+ rows.

If you have solution, sample or link would be appriciated.

Configuration In SQLCLR Assembly

Aug 27, 2007

Hi,

I have an SQLCLR assembly which is required to connect to a remote WCF service. In order to do this in a host such as IIS you would need to store all your WCF configuration data (endpoints, types etc) in the Web.config or App.config (in a windows forms app). This begs the question: Where do you store configuration data for SQLCLR assemblies?

The System.Configuration assembly is available in the SQLCLR, but this assumes a Web or App config files exists? Does SQL have its own config file that you can keep your settings in which is called when the assembly is running from within the SQL process?

If this is not possible, should I rather be storing configuration data in the database itself?

This particular example relates to WCF configuration but is relevant for assemblies using Enterprise Library which is also config driven.

Any help would be appreciated.
Chris
