My google search doesn't really give a clear result, I would like to change the format of a result set, I have a field called totalBasePrice, it's current a numeric value like 10000 but I wish for it to be displied like £10,000 ....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a table that I have to update in preparation for our environment move (2k to 2005 SP2). The developers that designed the application created a table called schemas, which holds the contents of an XML file inside of an ntext field named Data.I need to parse through the field and do a find/replace to replace all instances of www.site.com with www7.site.com. It's all over the place in the file. The problem is, that the datalength() of each of the fields (there are 2 rows) are above 15000.normally, I'd run something like this:update schemas set data=replace (cast(Data as varchar(max)),'www.site.com','www7.site.com') where data like '%www.site.com%'Smaller columns it works great - but it won't work on these because they're too big (the update will chop anything beyond the varchar(max) value). I could do it manually, but this DB will be refreshed from production on a weekly basis and I'd like to script as many of the environment changes to the DB as much as possible. Any ideas?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi all,I need to store data into about 104 columns. This is problematic with MSSQL, since it doesn't support rows over 8kb in total size.Most of the columns are of type NVARCHAR(255), which means we can't havemore than 8092/(255*2) = 15 columns of this type.With a row length of more than 8kb, SQL gives a warning that any rows overthat amount will be truncated.So far I'm seeing two possible solutions to this problem:1. Split data into multiple tables with the same ID column accross alltables, and then join them on SELECT statements.2. Use NTEXT instead of NVARCHAR. NTEXT's length is 16 bytes because itcontains a pointer to the actual value stored somewhere else. However, NTEXTdoesn't support regular indexing, only through a Full-Text Index catalog. Inthis case I'll need to user "WHERE CONTAINS(columnName, 'sometext')" toperform searches, which is bearable.I'm inclined toward #2. However I haven't used Full-Text indices before anddon't know their limitations. Will I run into problems with NTEXT? Is therea better solution?Thanks.-Oleg.

these two records based on their ntext Fields.? in the other words i'm looking for some thing like the follows:
declare @a nTextdeclare @b nText
select @a=MynTextField from MyTable where PK=18select @b=MynTextField from MyTable where PK=21
if @a=@b print 'Records Are the same'else print 'Record are not the same'

I've just gotten my data into SQL Server, and changed the connection stringon the program.There was a memo field (Access 2000) and we put that in a text field (with adefault length of 16?).Now, when displaying the data online (through asp pages), there are bigwhite-space gaps in the pages (that display the memo field data), imageshave a "double" url(http://www.mysite.com/thisfolder/ht...thelinksite.com)there are lots of place with " ".The field data has html tags in it, if that has anything to do with it.It seems like I've heard that there are issues with text fields. Is thiswhat they meant? Is there anything I can do?Thanks, JA

I haven't had to deal with ntext fields before, I'm finding that they are a ton of fun
Can someone tell me what the impact would be of changing all of the ntext column in ReportServer, ReportServerTempDB, and RSExecutionLogs to varchar(MAX)?
I can only guess that ntext was left in for backwards compatibility with sql2k?
Thanks for any thoughts, direction!
What would be the best process to change the datatype of ntext fields.
I assume just changing the datatype - is not the way to go?
I had several databases under sqlserver ce 2.0 (in my Pocket PC) which contained ntext fields. The size of the databases varies from 50,000 to 700,000 records. The size of an ntext field is from 4 bytes to 2 megabytes.
When I recreated my databases under sql server 2005 mobile on my desktop using VS2005 (see my post just under this one), I saw a big difference between the old and new database sizes. This problem was mentioned in one of the posts in this forum and the reply was to replace ntext data with ncharvar type.
Since most of my data was longer than 4000 bytes (which is the limit for nvarchar type), I couldn't use this suggestion. Instead, I changed my ntext type to image type and used a GetByte conversion.
No change! The size of the new database is still 50 % larger than the original. Since the difference is around 300 MB, this is an unacceptable thing.
Now, I either wait from somebody to suggest a new solution (apart from keeping the ntext data in a separate binary file and keep index of the records of this file in the records of sql database) or, most preferably, have
Microsoft solve this problem as soon as possible.
Thanks for any help in advance

Hi:
I'm trying to transfer a table from SQL Server 7 database to another SQL server 7 database on
another server. This table has a text field with lots of data (~.5-1 G). I'm using the export wizard
and the transfer appears to complete successfully, but when I view it, the text field data has
been truncated.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Nicole Lane
I have an idea to use LIKEW opeartor (with te wildcards) to match large (>10Kb) text fields of 'text' and 'ntext' types. Are there known problems here?

I have a table with raw scientific test results in a single field, some of which are over 25Mb field. I need to parse into the field to find and aggregate selected values from the field.
Table structure is
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Gxxx_Data](
[id] [uniqueidentifier] NOT NULL,
[Status] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
[GxxxItem_ID] [int] NULL,
[Stats_Data] [varbinary](max) NULL,
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
[code]...
From which I need to parse and summarize the (Assembler) opcodes (MOV,CMPi, SHR etc...)I need to parse the large field [Stats_Data] to locate the target data.The internal result strings are delimited with Char(10), conservative counts are from 64k to over 100k lines in each record. Is there a way to parse the individual lines into another table (temp) that would be queried/regexed ?
I have a general SQL design-type question.
I want to log errors to a table. If the error is with a URL, I want to store the URL. These URLs can be very large, hundreds of characters, but I only need to store it if it causes the error, which should be very infrequent. Which is the better design:
Create a large varchar field in the log table to hold the URL, or null if the error wasn't with the URL.
Create a foreign key field in the log table to a second URL table, which has a unique ID and a large varchar, and only create a record in this table if the error is with the URL.
One concern I have with design 2 is that there could be many other fields that are infrequent. Do I create a separate table for every one?

Hi, I'm new around here and am stumped. I have created a form where I submit the information into a SQL Server 2000 table. When I submit the information through the form, only the first character of each field populates inside of the SQL table. This happens for every field except for two, zip and comments. The zip field is numeric and the comments field is text. All the other fields are varchar fields; and these are the fields with the problems. I have attempted to change the data type to text, but that did not work either. I am doing this through a stored procedure I created. Here is the asp code:

For large databases is it a good idea to create indexes for fields that are used in Where statements? Does that improve performance and reduce overhead?

Is there any solution other than Index server to rectify this situation. How can I speed up the query execution time. Please advise.

Hi
We are having problems getting Reporting Services 2005 to export to an ASCII CSV file and correctly produce a £(GBP sign).
I have changed my report server .config file to read:
<Extension Name="CSV1" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.CsvRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-UK">CSV - UTF-8</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<Encoding>UTF-8</Encoding>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
<Extension Name="CSV2" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.CsvRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-UK">CSV - UTF-7</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<Encoding>UTF-7</Encoding>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
<Extension Name="CSV3" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.CsvRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-UK">CSV - ASCII</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<Encoding>ASCII</Encoding>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
And so far so good I get the three options to export to,
If I Export using the ASCII Rendering my pound signs come out as question marks (?) and subsequently loads into Excel as a general data type and is not sum-able.
If I Export using UTF-8 Rendering my pound signs come out as a weird character followed by a pound sign, again opened in excel loads as a General data type and is not summable.
If I export using UNICODE rendering, by file sizes are doublesd as you would expect, and then when you open in excel it is all bunched up in column 1, both un-acceptable.
Interestingly enough If I take the UTF-8 file I have and convert it to ASCII using Ultraedit, notepad or wordpad, everything works fine, the £ is correctly encoded, Excel loads it OK and it is summable, result, but I can not use get my end users to perform this "kludge" for an export.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I am running this query to an sql server 2000 database from my aspcode:"select * from MyTable whereMySqlServerRemoveStressFunction(MyNtextColumn) = '" &MyAdoRemoveStressFunction(MyString) & "'"The problem is that the replace function doesn't work with the ntextdatatype (so as to replace the stresses with an empty string). I hadto implement the MySqlServerRemoveStressFunction, i.e. a function thattakes a column name as a parameter and returns the text contained inthis column having replaced some letters of the text (the letters withstress). Unfortunately, I could not do that because user-definedfunctions cannot return a value of ntext.So I have the following idea:"select * from MyTable whereCheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStesses(MyNtextColum n, '" & MyString &"')"How can I implement the CheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStessesfunction? (I don't know how to combine these functions to do what Iwant: TEXTPTR, UPDATETEXT, WRITETEXT, READTEXT)

I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
