Why Is A User Variable Not Visible In Expressions?

Oct 26, 2007

I have defined a variable varFileName and when I go to the Expression Builder in my Connection Manager Properties I can't see it and even when I type the name it says the variable is not existent or in a different scope. I have set the scope to be the very same package, that's for sure. Can anybody please tell me, as I can't solve this mistery, why the Builder does not see the var???

Variable Expressions In Derived Columns - Evaluate ColumnNames??

Jan 24, 2008

Trying to setup a derived column to use an expression stored in a package variable. But it seems that variables are always evaluated as text...I need it to evaluate as a Columname sometimes.

Example:
On an ETL of Products I want a new derived column that uses two other columns.

I can hardcode an expression of ProductID + " - " + ProductName and that results in dynamic output. But now I want to use that as an expression stored in a variable so I can change it when needed.

So I make that expression = @[User::Variable]
and stuff into @variable ( a string param) : ProductID + " - " + ProductName
My output is the literal "ProductID + " - " + ProductName", and not the actual ID's and Names

I've tried with/without brackets, quotes and braces but no change.

Any way I can get the pieces in that variable expression to evaluate as column names?

User Defined Variable

Hello

Is there a way that I can create a user defined variable in my database? I could use other mechinisms to allow access to it, but all other application related information is stored nicely in this one place, I hate to vary for this single piece.

Table Variable And User Defined Types

Oct 30, 2003

This is part of the codes of a stored procedure:

-- Create tables variables
DECLARE @_tab_PRNumList TABLE(
PRNum udt_PRNum
)

However, it cannot be compiled coz of this error:
Error 2715: Column or parameter #1: Cannot find data type udt_PRNum.

This user-defined data type is created in a user database only.

I tried to created the user-defined type into BOTH tempdb and master but same error.

How can i resolove it?
Or it is impossible to use user-defined datatype for table variable?

In the past,
i use this method:
CREATE TABLE #PRNumList (
PRNum udt_PRNum
)

and cerate udt_PRNum in tempdb only could solve it.

But now i want to use table variable.
It seems NOT work for my situation.

Any idea?

Assign Numeric Data Type To User Variable

how to pass the column that has a numeric(12,0) data type to user variable in SSIS? what kind of variable data type should I choose?
if i select int64, it keep giving me an error:
Error: 0xC001F009 at Row by Row process: The type of the value being assigned to variable "User:bject_Key" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.

there is no numeric data type in variable..

Incrementing A User Variable In Data Flow Task

Mar 13, 2008

Hello All,

I have a user variable , say max_id, which retrieves the max id from a primary key column of a table.

now in Data Flow Task, I have a Derived Column where I am creating a new column which will have the values max_id + 1 for the first record, then max_id + 2 for the second record of the derived column and so on..

and then I am mapping this derived column with that primary key column of the table, so that the new id's are different than the old ones which are already in the table, so there wont be any primary key violation.

I cannot make that primary key column as an Identity column.

my question is how do I increment this max_id user variable everytime ?

Multiple Reads Of User Variable (Recordset Object) Failing

Has anyone run across this before? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How To Assign User Variable Value To The Derived Column, In Data Flow Task

Dec 19, 2006

Hi:

In the derived column transformation editor, I have a Derived column name called FileGroupID. I would like to pass in a value for this column from a variable that I have set earlier in the scope. Can someone let me know, how to write the expression that does that and where do I specifiy that expression. I am thinking its the expression field in the derived column transformation editor. My main question is how to actually write the expression, what is the syntax to pull the variable value? Thanks.

Script Task User Defined Variable And Data Reader Source SQL Statement

Jan 12, 2007

Hello,

Please can anyone tell me if or how I have to cross reference to a user defined variable from a script task in the SQL of a Data Reader Source?

The script task creates a variable for the last Sales Ledger Session. The SQL in the data reader source that updates the DW sales invoice lines file based upon those invoice lines where the session number is greater than the value from the script task.

The SQL command in the custom properties doesn't cross reference back to the variable.

If anyone can help or needs further detail to help please post a resonse.

Data Not Visible???

Jan 27, 2004

I recently imported some Access tables into SQL Server. I can go into enterprise manager and return all rows and the data is there.

I build an ASP page to edit the data. After the connection the data for the record is displayed in a form. For some reason some fields are not coming through?

Is this a problem when converting to SQL Server. It just doesn't make sense that the table in Enterprise manager says the field is populated but when I do a pull via ASP the data doesn't come through.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JW

CLR Stored Procedure Not Visible

Dec 20, 2005

I am trying to do some time series analysis on data that I have. I've read that the best way to do this is to use CLR to write the manipulation code in .Net and then load the assembly into SQL rather than extracting the data, manipulating it and putting it back again.

I'm using crystal reports with visual studio 2003 to do my reporting. The problem I am facing is that the CLR stored procedures I create using SQLExpress are not visible from my SQL explorer built into Visual Studio 2003. I can create stored procedures using standard transact sql and these are visible, but the CLR stored procedures are not.

I've noticed when I browse the stored procedures in my SQL Management Studio that the image of the stored procedure has a padlock shown in the icon, as if they are locked?

Do I have to explicitly enable a security attribute on CLR stored procedures to make them visible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run Package On Server CPU Is Done Through SQL Agent: How To Set User Variable In Package Then?

May 9, 2007

Hi,

I have packages stored in SQL store. I was letting users run the packages from a .net app that I made with

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Now I have noticed this causes the packages to run on the client pc cpu, as well as the network traffic is done via the client pc, in my particular case this is slow.

From the doc and in this forum I have found that you can run a package on the Server cpu through sql agent, let packages be run in a sql job. after that you can start a package from an application with the SQL sp_start_job .

But How do you set a user::varibale in a package if you have to start the package from a sql agent job ?
