I'm not exactly sure when this error occured, as I typically access databases running on a server. However, I've recently encountered this error when trying to access my local instance of SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. I'm assuming it's due to a recent windows update.

I try to setup another server (mssql2k) to do the same thing, there is no error appeared. Therefore, I have doubt that the name of the computer using "-" will have problem. Or the registry of (ms-sql2k) may have problem because it had wrongly installed personal edition and re-installed the standard verions afterwards.
I am using a windows xp sp 2. I have visual web developer 2005 express edition. .net Framework 2. but when i downloaded the sql 2005 express edition. when i click on the sqlexpr.exe. I receive a message " sqlexpr.exe is not a valid win32 application".

I'm trying to debug some CLR UDTs that uses unsafe acess to a win32 dll, I'm modifying both the win32 DLL and the UDTs DLL at the same time.
To let SQL server load the win32 DLL I've put ot into the ...Binn directory, all worked ok. Now I want to update the win32 DLL... and here cames troubles :
- I've tied to stop sqlserver / overwrite DLL / start sqlserver, but does not works. The DLL is also 'overwiteable' while SQL server is using it... this makes me think that sqlserver stores the win32 DLL in other places (maybe inside the DB) and does not uses the original one in the Binn dir
- I've tried to reload the CLR assembly, doen't works
- I've also tried to drop and recreate the assembly and doesn't works too... anyway this is not even possible in a production server since it would require me to drop all tables that uses the UDTs.
(does't works means that the win32 DLL behavior is the same)
New to SQL Server installations. I downloaded the SQL Server Express with Advanced; when I double click the Setup.exe, I get a pop-up "document path/file is not a valid Win32 application". I upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro SP2.0. Any suggestions?

I wanted to know if there is a way to connect to my MSSQL without having to setup a datasource in the control panel.
Perferably I want to locate the database within my perl code instead. I don't want to have to setup a datasource each time I need a different database. Perhaps there is a way to pass the name of the database along with the username and password through the command line.

I'm sure my computer is either x64 or ia64, and I have downloaded both the installation files but both of them give me the same error, when the installation bar at the start is pretty much full, it gives me a "hotfix.exe is not a valid Win32 application." error. And instead of installing it to the usual C: directory, it installs to the F: directory..And it does not give me an option to choose which directory I want to install it into..
My operating system is a Windows XP Pro..

i'm trying to install MS SQL 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition, on my Win XP Pro SP2 (Intel Centrino 1.73Ghz, 1GB RAM)... i have downloaded the self-extractable file (SQLEVALX64.EXE) from MS website... After extracting this file to a folder and clicking on "setup.exe" - resulting in "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error message...
I'm working on porting a solution running under WM 5 Pocket PC to Win32 but I got some problems with type definitions like CEOID, CEGUID... I saw that these types are defined in windbase.h (EDB definition added to preprocessors) ) which includes types and definitions usefull for database managment. Anyway this header file is not present in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2Include, so I was wondering which is the header file I can use instead of it. Thanks

Summary (So you dont need to visit my blog):
I was trying to execute a totally empty placeholder batchfile and this produces the "%1 is not a valid win32 application" error when using Execute Process Task. Simply add something to your placeholder file (like DIR command) and you can continue running your package without error
I hope this saves someone time in the future.

This server already has an install of SQL Server 2000 as the default instance. I'm attempting to install a new named instance of SQL Server 2005.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
I am trying to import Access reports using Visual Studio 2005 and Access 2007. SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services is also installed. I select Reports in the Solution Explorer and then Import Reports... Microsoft Access and browse to my Access database. After I select the database I see it open briefly as if it is trying to import the reports but then Access quickly closes and a error pops up: "You already have the database open." I have checked and double checked and the database is not open. I have even tried several different databases and the same errror occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. I have a SProc that runs across many clients without any problems. Every now and then, though, I get the following error:

All I am doing is populating Temp tables with some data and then joining them together to create a Global Temp table that is being BCP'd to a network share.

I've recently migrated all databases to SQL Server 2005. I couldn'tfigure out how to create an SSIS package in the time I had, so I juststuck with the DTS packages. They all worked fine during testing, butonce we renamed the server we had problems. The DTS packages stillwork, but whenever I click into the Copy SQL Server Object and try toSelect Objects (on the Copy tab) I get this error:Microsoft SQL-DMOError 21776: General ErrorI click OK and get the error again and again for a total of 12 times(regardless of which database I'm connecting to in the packages, soit's not related to the number of objects in the database). We have several large government web sites that we help look after. We recently migrated one of them from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 and are having a problem with our nightly email job in that if it runs for more than an hour then after exactly 1 hour the email job gets a "Timeout expired" message back from SQL Server.
Our batch jobs do run on a different server and connect remotely to our SQL Server DB. I did change the connections - remote query timeout and increased it 10 fold, but this didn't make any difference. Is there any other parameter that may be causing the Timeout expired error after exactly 1 hour?

Hi guys, I have just set up a database in SQL 2005 Express Edition. However, I have a problem accessing it with the application program created in VB 2005 EE. Before using SQL 2005, the application worked perfectly in SQL 2000. Here is my connection string used in SQL 2000:

I've installed SQL2005 on a server already running SQL2K on my laptop. SQL2K is the default instance, so I'm trying to connect to SQL2005 using MYSERVERSQL2005 as the instance.
The steps that I've taken are to apply SP2 and enable remote connections (TCP & Named pipes). I've also made sure the SQL Server Browser service is running and enabled.

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. Is anyone else having issues with SQL 2005 Books on line? Whenever I start it, I get a critical failure in Microsoft Document Explorer and then the application crashes. When it restarts, it won't display a document. When I click on the "what's in the report" (for the crash dump to send to M$), I get the following:
When I click on the links provided, it takes me to a page that says I probably have a root kit virus. I used sysinternals tools to validate that there are no rootkits.
I am running: Dell Latitude D505 (1 GB RAM) Windows XP (SP2, all updates) SQL 2005 (SP2)
I am also running: SQL 2000 (SP4) Visual Studio 6.0 (SP6) Visual Studio .Net 2003 MSDN Library (April 2004)
I am trying to apply SP2 to a 3 node cluster. Everything installs fine except the database services. I get the following error:
