I have a database being built that has a java front end, a SQL 2000 back end, and most of my clients are win98, will this work ok?? And if not do I need to upgrade to all w2k?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just started getting this EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) on machines using Windows 2000 sp4 connecting to SQLServer. This is crashing JVMs (multiple Sun versions and BEA also) in the Java VM frame (outside our code). This has just started recently - perhaps with the last set of patches? Has anyone else seen this or know what I could do to get more information? Could this be related to updates to named pipes?

Hi , I am trying to connect to MS Sql server 2000 from Java (1.4.2 /1.5 ). I installed my Sql Server(8.00.382) from the one supplied withVS.NET 2001. When I installed it on my laptop it did not ask me for auser name and password. After install when I re-started my machine Isee the server started up with a green light. Now when I connect to theserver from VS.NET it works fine. This is because VS uses windowsintegrated security. I now need to connect using Java , so I downloadedthe microsoft drivers for SQL2000-JDBC sp3 from the microsoft site. Iadded the jar files to my Java project classpath. I have a back-end front-end application in MS Access. Instead of using MS Access queries it gets data via recordsets generated from SQL scripts in VBA routines.
I'm planning to upgrade it to use SQL Server as the back-end. However I need to retain the alternative option of using a file based back-end. (It currently has the capacity to be switched between alternative Access .mdb back-end files.) Is there any information available on how to do this and on how to get Access to synchronize between SQL Server and SQL Server CE back-ends? (Eventually the application will be migrated to VB.NET, but that is a long way down the track.)

I have a form (Mricosoft Access front end) in which the user enter a Pending Date in one of the fields. The date is populated into my backend (SQL Server) withouht problems.
Whenever the issue which had the pending date in the field is resolved I'd like to delete this date from this field and also from the back end. At the moment I'm not being able to pass the "value" Null to my back end (probably because it's a datetime type). I've searched the net throughout and I couldn't find a way around it. Only found solution to when the data is not date but numbers/letters, etc... Any ideas on how can I sort this out?

I hope this is an easy one for some of you - this is the scenario :
1) I have an Access Application that has been upsized to SQL
2) We are now replicating it with a second office
3) When we started doing the Merge Replication, the ROWGUID was added to each table
4) When we attempt to add a new record to the table, it allows us to add 3 fields, then the record 'jumps' to the indexed location of the ROWGUID
5) The 'jump' is undesirable as we then have to resort the table by key and finish its input.
5) We have our own primary identity field that SQL seems to be ignoring.
Any help would be really great

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.
When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.
I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.

I've created a small company database where the tables reside in a SQLServer database. I'm using Access 2000 forms for a front end.I've got a System DSN set-up to SQL Server and am using links withinAccess 2000 to get to the SQL Server tables.My forms worked fine until I made a few minor changes to the databaseschema on SQL Server (e.g. added a foreign key, or added a column).After that, all the links break - I click on a table link and get anerror msg like "invalid object name."Deleting the links after a schema change and re-adding the links seemedto fix the problem. The forms I'd already created seemed to work fineafter re-creating the links.But then I got more advanced with my forms. I have it set up so thatfor certain entry fields, the combobox gets populated with values froma table (the description appears in the drop-down and the correspondingprimary key value gets populated in the table). I created a number offorms using this technique, entered data, and everything worked fine.Made a small schema change and it broke everything -- not the actualtable links, but the functionality for the drop-downs. My values nolonger appeared, and this was true for forms that accessed tables whoseschemas did not change.This is driving me nuts. I would be hosting the data and web application code on my dedicated server. This application is using the membership api supplied in .NET 2.0 and also has my own custom data tables within it.My question is what would be the best way to add clients to this? Should I simply create a new database for each new client like so: ACME_Database, ABC_Database, AAA_Database etc. Or should I add some sort of client "Tag" (tag meaning column within each datatable) to these databases and then update my SQL queries to process them accordingly. I imagine I could do both but I guess I need some advice from people that already had experiance with providing this kind of service. Thanks!Jason

Got a good question to ask. At the moment, I do not have any control over the reporting server webserver. This is due to the company's policy. The webhosting is controled by antoher department.
Anyways, the question is the following:- Is there a way to customize the config file for the htmlviewer (css style sheet, rendering and others) for a specific client without affecting the rest ?
There are about 20 clients on a server, and I am responsible for one of them. I had customized my config file to render or allow only two formats for this particular client. Since I don't have any control over the websever, I just can't replace the config file without affecting the others. How do i do this ? I just want th config file to ONLY affect a certain client's HTMLViewer and not the others. I tried to do some research on this, but came up empty handed.

resorting to Copy Database Wizard? I love to find a way of attaching a SS 2005 database
to a SS 2000 instance without any issues.
I recently upgraded to SS 2005 and I am very unhappy with the SS 2005 and I
want to rollback to SS 2000, which was a lot more stable. I am having
several major issues that are affecting my whole company's day-to-day
operations and the managers are not happy. Some of the issues include
night time batch running very sluggish for no apparent reason. This is a
biggest problem because it only occurs once or so a week and causes a disturbance
with the daily activities when the night time processing isn€™t completed on
time. The rest of the time, the batch processing runs great, even a little better then on SS 2000. I
don't believe it is a matter of my application needing to be retuned because if
that was the case, then why isn't it running sluggish every night? Also,
it's never the same day that the sluggish behavior occurs. If it was occurring
on the same night, then I would have something to investigate within our
application, but it doesn't. Another issue that I am having involves a
night time job that restores a copy of the production database to the Data
Warehouse server to be used for updating the data warehouse. Again, most
of the time it runs great (~2 1/2 hours), but once or twice a week, it goes
stupid and takes 6 1/2 hours for no apparent reason. Again, it is not happening
the same day either, which could give me something to invesigate. On SS 2000, this same job ran flawlessly. Never I did I run into situation that the
database restoration took that long to run. Even another issue involves a SQL Server Agent Job that was put into suspended
state. What's a suspended state and how can I get it out of suspended
state? I can find no information about suspended state in BOL. I
did a Google and nothing came up. If this suspended state was put
in for security reasons, great, but then tell me how I can remove the suspended
state. I am also not happy with the
fact that I can't get accurate information about the queries that are actively
running at that particular moment. In SS 2000, when I noticed high CPU
usage on the server, I would run the sp_who2 active stored proc and it would
show me all the active thread and how much CPU it was consuming. I would
then find the running threads with the highest CPU numbers and investigate the
query and see if we could improve it. Now in SS 2005, I get in the same
situation and run the sp_who2 stored proc, and there is no smoking gun.
All of the active threads are showing very little CPU usage, which I am very
suspect of. What the heck happen to sp_who2? I looked at some of
the other ways of looking at running processes (i.e... sys.sysprocesses) and
they don't appear to be giving the information that I need.
I am very unhappy and I just want to roll back to SS 2000 and wait a couple of
years before I upgrade to SS 2005.

to still connect to some older remote windows 2000/SQL 2000 servers.

I had an issue where my database was transfered from a SQL 2000 database to a SQL 2005 database.
The SQL 2005 database works fine, but my development environment is SQL 2000.
So I created a new SQL 2000 database and used the SQL 2005 DTS wizard to transfer the data. As far as I can tell, everything went fine, and the DTS wizard showed no errors.
However, when I changed my website application's connection string to the new database, the application (LaGarde StoreFront 6.0) throws a licensing error. When I checked with LaGarde, they said that it was a permissions issue, that the permissions on the database where incorrect.
I never really heard of that, but have no way to check. I really need to transfer this database back to 2000. Any help?

We are internally upgrading all of our SQL boxes to SQL Server 2005. Unfortunately our web production SQL box is hosted externally at a hosting company and it will be staying as a SQL server 2000 box. Can the new ssis wizards/functionality update tables on a sql 2000 box or a better question what would be the best way to update data (not necessarily copy whole tables) from a 2005 db to a 2000 db?
