I want to actualice my SQL Server and i´m asking if it´s posible to update all the hotfix trough the web update.microsoft.com, there is any automatic way in order to update SQL Server?
I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32) I installed all service packs available I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!
Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted.
This is my installation Information

I upgraded the OS on my SQL 2005 SP2 to Windows 2003 SP2. Everything still works fine but now Windows Update says that I need SQL 2005 SP2 again. I checked the version of SQL on the server and it's still SP2. Did the Windows service pack somehow downgrade parts of my SQL installation? I know I can probably just reinstall the SQL service pack but I was just curious...
Windows updates are scheduled for the server every 15 days. After windows update the machine reboots on its own but sql server does not start. If I reboot the mchine manually sql server starts without any problem. SQL services set to start automatically. Can somone tell me what do I need to do to fix this problem.
Is there anything special that I need to worry about in regards to Windows Updates on SQL Servers? I do not have a good development environment yet so testing them first really isn't feasable. (This is going to change very soon. I'm just waiting on a fiber card so I can connect the Dev server to a RAID.) The SQL Servers are pretty far back in regards to MS updates so I want to make sure I won't do any damage to the DBs or SQL Server itself. The first update that I am going to install is Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
I've let my Vista Ultimate 64-bit installation on a Dell Precision M90 pretty much have its way with automatic update which has worked reasonably well...until now.
I've installed the MS CRM 3.0 laptop version into my Outlook client. Everything was working well until automatic update tried to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896) which failed. It also rendered the Online/Offline functionality unusable and, with the installation accomplished while I was Offline, all of my CRM data is sequestered. Uninstalling the CRM client and SQL Express with it while I'm in an Offline condition has some real downsides so I thought I'd try to fix the SP2 issue through this group and then work my way back through the product teams.
The Windows Update installer returns a failure code of 2B22.
I've tried the downloadable SP2 upgrade but only the SQLEXP32.EXE seems to be available through any of the links in the SQL Express pages I've yet visited, not the WOW version.
I am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The error stops the installation while checking system configuration after installing prerequisites. The log file entry is as follows:

I have a problem when i start sincronyzing with the emulator of MSVS2005 to SQL2005 in Windows Vista. I have the same program in the emulator, but sincronyzing with windows XP Pro and no problem...

I'm running on a Windows Xp Pro system and need to install sql server 2005. I will be doing development as well as having the need to use the reporting services. What version of sql server 2005 should I install? I looked for sql server 2005 Developer edition and was unable to find it in the download section from MS.
I'm having a problem trying to create a SQL server mobile (using SQL Server 2005). I do the following steps: I create the database, then I go to Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 (C#) and add this in my application. Drag and Drop the table to my form I run debug. I get the error: Impossible to locate PInvoke DLL 'sqlceme30.dll'
I'm using windows Vista, and my pocket PC is Datalogic Memor, with Windows CE 5, Compact Frame Work 2.
My server is a dual AMD x64 2.19 GHz with 8 GB RAM running under Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 installed. We have SQL 2000 32-bit Enterprise installed in the default instance. AWE is enabled using Dynamically configured SQL Server memory with 6215 MB minimum memory and 6656 maximum memory settings.
I have now installed, side-by-side, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in a separate named instance. Everything is running fine but I believe SQL Server2005 could run faster and need to ensure I am giving it plenty of resources. I realize AWE is not needed with SQL Server 2005 and I have seen suggestions to grant the SQL Server account the 'lock pages in memory' rights. This box only runs the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 server databases and I would like to ensure, if possible, that each is splitting the available memory equally, at least until we can retire SQL Server 2000 next year. Any suggestions?
We have a financial software package that has been certified for SQL 2005 and Windows 2003 server. Will SQL 2005 run on a Windows 2000 server? I don’t want to build a new server at this time unless I really have too.
I'm not finding a definitive answer to my question as to whether or not I can run the development edition of SQL Server 2005 on my brand new pc with this operating system. No one seems to know for sure and I can't afford to pay for tech. support. It should be supported but I don't know where to get a 'real' answer.
When trying to connect to a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services instance through the Excel 2007 Add-In, the ability to choose a user name/password combination rather than Windows Authentication seems to be disabled. Is there a way to do this? Thank you!
Dear mems, I have a problem, and i don't khow how to resolve, pls help me:

if you run the following script it takes access from the windows admin from getting into sql server through windows auth. The issue is that the files that are attached logging as SA after that are read only. Is there any solution? When you try and switch the file to read write sql server gives an error saying that it cant read the mdf and ldf--gives a windows access error....

Hi all,I just asked some people to help me out and phone microsoft with thefollowing information, kindly they refused unless we setup a supportcontract with them first, for pre-sales information. (That really doesnot sound like good business sense to me - anyway here is our problem,if anyone could help thanks)."To tell and ask microsoft:We will be setting up a microsoft sql server 2000 instance running on awindows 2003 server.1) We need to check this can run alongside a microsoft 2003 sql server(either workgroup or standard edition), on the same machine. Are thereany .dll clashes if we do this? If there are can we run SQL Server2000, in a virtual machine running windows 2000 professional. (I have alicenced copy we can use for this).2) If we run one instance of 2000, and one of 2003 of the sql servers, can one use the processor licence model, and one use the CAL licencemodel."Thanks for any help, and any idea why they actually force you to usenews groups for pre-sales information?David
Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it.
I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP):
These are two things that I need to facilitate:
1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs.
2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database.
3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this.
Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.

Hi All, After I installed sql server 2005 64bit standard edition on Windows Server Enterprise 2008 64bit, I cannot connect to the sql instance using the sql management studio on the same machine! I verified that:
service is running,
in surface area configuration: remote connections to local and remote are enabled, for TCP/IP and named pipes.
ran the command netstat -avn| findstr 49279 to make sure that the server is listening.
firewall is off, but this does not matter since I'm connecting locally to local instance
I'm using domain controller account to login to sql server / also tried the sa account. what else can be wrong?

Re: Best Practices (security): Should SQL Server (2005) *not* be installed on the same physical HD as the Windows OS (Server 2003 R2) ?
Hi,
We're setting up some new servers, and today I'm looking into best practices for the SQL Server Setup portion of it.
The servers have include 2 x 250G HD, and from what I've read, where IIS is concerned, it should not be installed on the drive that has the OS on it, for security reasons. I was wondering if the installation of SQL Server should be on the non-OS drive as well ?
I was a Oracle Developer / DBA on Unix Environments all along my career, Very recently iam starting to manage a SQL Server 2005/Windows 2003 Server setup.
Part of my new job is to automate to load Huge Data files/Flat Files (3/4 GB in size) into SQL Server 2005 DB.
Have these initial questions.. Since the files are too large to open at once... What sort of Command Line Interfaces people use on the Windows Boxes.. like doing a "wc" (Word Count) / GREP 'ng Files / Massaging Data Files one line at a time (Like using SED / AWK Commands).. Etc
Does anyone know how to properly install SQL server 2005 express reporting services on windows server 2008. When ever i try to access the report manager I get an error "Cannot access the remote server" even though the report server is on the local machine. I only have the web server role installed on the server. Im still quite a newbie at managing servers so please keep it as simple as possible. Thanks Matthew
I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server.
I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services.
The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio).
One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either.
I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing?
I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
But my SQL Server allows remote connection, and I am able to do a select statement. But when I insert/update anything, it's throwing this error. I guess some problem with MSDCT. Anybody have any idea ?
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007 client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know what this is all about?
