Wont Execute Store Procedure With Parameter
Oct 4, 2007
Hi
Am trying execute a store procedure with a date parameter than simply get back ever record after this todays date. It wont except the value i give. I can just do it in the store procedure as it will passed other values later on.
It works fine if I take the parameter out, of both store procedure and code. It must be a syntax thing but im stuck sorry --- the error i get is: Incorrect syntax near 'GetAppointmentSessions'.
here is my code: ' build calendar for appointment sessions
Dim Today As Date = Date. Now
Dim ConnStr As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ConnString").ConnectionString
Dim Conn As New SqlConnection(ConnStr)
Conn.Open()
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("GetAppointmentSessions", Conn)
cmd.Parameters.Add("InputDate", SqlDbType.DateTime).Value = CType(Today, DateTime)
Dim adapter As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)
Dim dt As New DataTable
adapter.Fill(dt)
Dim row As DataRow
Here is the SQL:ALTER procedure [dbo].[GetAppointmentSessions]
@InputDate Datetime
AS
SELECT TOP (5) uidAppointmentSession, dtmDate,
(SELECT strRoomName
FROM tblRooms
WHERE (uidRoom = tblAppointmentSessions.fkRoom)) AS Room,
(SELECT strName
FROM tblHMResources
WHERE (uidHMResources = tblAppointmentSessions.fkHMResource)) AS Clinician,
dtmStartBusinessHours, dtmEndBusinessHours
FROM tblAppointmentSessions
Where
dtmDate > @InputDate
Order By dtmDate

I have a Execute SQL Task that calls a stored procedure. The text of the stored procedure is an "INSERT INTO .. SELECT ..." statement. When I run the text in Query Analyzer, it completes successfully. When I call the Stored Procedure, it executes but does not insert the data. It has a date parameter, but hard coding the date parameter does not work either. I checked the permissions on the Stored Procedure and SQL Agent, which are ok. When I change BypassPrepare to True, the query will execute and insert the rows to the required table. If someone has an explanation for this, I would appreciate some sql enlightenment. Thanks.

Hello,
Lets say I have a SP that return 1000 records,
do I get any better speed if doing it on a SP instead of just SELECT without an SP ?
if I have many users on a web-site that will execute this SP - will they get any better
speed because it is a SP ? - can SP cache itself - if so - for how long ?
(Why should I use SP if not passing any parameters ?)

Hi, I have been searching for an answer to allow me to execute xp_cmdshell from withing store prcedure by calling the store procedure from an aspx via click on a button. This is what I found from my reserch but was not able to know where to set the rights and what each of them means:
"To run xp_cmdshell for a non-system administrator user, you must grant the following rights.
MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent Services
Act as part of the Operating System.
Increase Quotas.
Replace a process level token.
Log on as a batch job."
The above quote was from the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;264155
The bottom line is to be able to call a store procedure from an aspx page to execute the code which contain xp_cmdshell command, an example of such command is like:
------------------------------------------------------------
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'dir d:BT_importDatasales_option_price_report.csv'
Thanks for your help

Hi. I am trying to extract the data returned from a store procedure to a flat file. However, it fail to execute this package in the OLE DB Source.
I select the SQL Command in the Data Access Mode, then use:
USE [SecurityMaster]
EXEC [dbo].[smf_ListEquity]
It runs ok in the Preview, but not in the Run. Then the system returns during executing the package:
Error: 0xC02092B4 at Load TickerList, OLE DB Source [510]: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider.
Error: 0xC004701A at Load TickerList, DTS.Pipeline: component "OLE DB Source" (510) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC02092B4.
Please give me some helps. Thanks.

SELECT * FROM [enews] WHERE ([name_nws] LIKE '%" + strSearch + "%' OR

Hi,
I am using a ListBox where a user can choose multiple lines.
The index of the selected items are then used in a stored procedure.
I wan´t to use the ID´s in this statement:
SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE MyID IN (1,2,4,9)
But how can I do this?
If I pass them as a string, then I can´t use them as above.
Can I separate the string '1,2,4,9' so I can use them in the statement above?
Or can I send the values as a array to the stored procedure?
Regards!

I am working on a report where some customization is need to be delivered.. situation is , i have some parameter in report @USER_ID , @Report_Type where i am proving selection to user to select Report Type (Pending Or Completed) and passing USER_ID auto matically from URL string of user login(C# code).
I have another parameter @USER_IDS which is multiple selection for user and it will be filled with the users which lie under passed @USER_ID means i just need to add dataset with the query to select users from mapper table where reporting_head =@USER_ID, simple, but i have requirement to populate the underlined users with the selection of @USER_ID and @Report_Type and it need some TSQL code to populate so i am using Another store procedure and using same parameter as my main store procedure has .
Now i am using dataset with this store procedure to fill my @USER_IDS parameter
Both parameters value will be passed from main report parameters now , when i am previewing a report i am getting error
and i also tried to write exec statement in dataset query with the main repport paramters but exec is not supported ..

I'm having problem on trying to execute a query in stored procedure that has parameters as a integer. The parameter with the integer is in the WHERE clause. If I take out the WHERE clause, it would work. If I take out the parameter and replace it with a value, it would work. I have try using the CONVERT function to convert it to an integer, still no luck.
Error: Unterminated String Constant.
What is the problem?

I cannot find the data type for parameter mapping from Execute SQL Task Editor to make this works.
1. Execute SQL Task 1 - select max(columnA) from tableA. ColumnA is varbinary(8); set result to variable which data type is Object.
2. Execute SQL Task 2 - update tableB set columnB = ?
What data type should I use to map the parameter? I tried different data types, none working except GUI but it returned wrong result.
Does SSIS variable support varbinary data type? I know there's a bug issue with bigint data type and there's a work-around. Is it same situation with varbinary?
Thanks,
-Ash

Hello,
since a couple of days I'm fighting with RS 2005 and the Stored Procedure.
I have to display the result of a parameterized query and I created a SP that based in the parameter does something:
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
CREATE PROCEDURE [schema].[spCreateReportTest]
@Name nvarchar(20)= ''
AS
BEGIN
declare @slqSelectQuery nvarchar(MAX);
SET NOCOUNT ON
set @slqSelectQuery = N'SELECT field1,field2,field3 from table'
if (@Name <> '')
begin
set @slqSelectQuery = @slqSelectQuery + ' where field2=''' + @Name + ''''
end
EXEC sp_executesql @slqSelectQuery
end
Inside my business Intelligence Project I created:
-the shared data source with the connection String
- a data set :
CommandType = Stored Procedure
Query String = schema.spCreateReportTest
When I run the Query by mean of the "!" icon, the parameter is Prompted and based on the value I provide the proper result set is displayed.
Now I move to "Layout" and my undertanding is that I have to create a report Paramater which values is passed to the SP's parameter...
So inside"Layout" tab, I added the parameter: Name
allow blank value is checked and is non-queried
the problem is that when I move to Preview -> I set the value into the parameter field automatically created but when I click on "View Report" nothing has been generated!!
What is wrong? What I forgot??
Thankx for any help!

I had thought that this was possible but I can't seem to figure out the syntax. Essentially I have a report where one of the parameters is populated by a stored procedure.
Right now this is easily accomplished by using "exec <storedprocname>" as the query string for the report parameter. However I am not clear if it is possible to now incorporate User!UserID as parameter to the stored procedure. Is it? Thanks

I am trying to create an Execute SQL task that sets a variable.
This is my SQL
DECLARE @Period AS DATETIME
SET @Period =Parameter0 + '/01/' + Parameter1
SET @Period = DATEADD(m, -1, @Period)
SELECT DATEADD(s, -1, @Period)
This statement parses okay.
I mapped two variables called "User::PeriodMonth" and "User::PeriodYear" in the Parameter Mapping tab to the parameters.
In the Result Set tabl I have mapped a variable "User::PeriodStartDate" to Result Name "PeriodStartDate".
The error I get is the following:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "DECLARE @Period AS DATETIME SET @Period =Parameter0 + '/01/' + Parameter1 SET @Period = DATEADD(m, -1, @Period) SELECT DATEADD(s, -1, @Period) " failed with the following error: "Parameter name is unrecognized.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
The Online Books are not helpful. They just say you have to bind the parameters to the application variables.
What am I doing wrong?
I want to set another variable called "PeriodEndDate" also. Can both variables be set in the same task?

I'm trying to execute a parameterized SQL string but need a return parameter (a multiplier) to include in a later SELECT statement.
What i'm looking for is equivalent to this paraphrased statement:
EXEC('SELECT @val = from @column where Value = @Value')
Where I would later use @val something like:
Select Value * @val as Total Value
Is there an easy way to do this..i've read and read to no avail.
TIA,
Charles
