Hi to all. Many times i saw that some people wrap the single insert, delete or updatestatements to transaction. My question is suppose i have procedure , and inside this procedure i performupdate i exatly know that only one row will be updated , is necessary or wheni need to wrap it with transaction------------------------------------------------------------------------------CREATE PROCEDURE Test_sp@ID intasUPDATE MyTableSET col1 = 'bla bla'WHERE [ID] = @ID-------------------------------------------------------------------------------in code above only on row will be updated so why some times i see :------------------------------------------------------------------------------CREATE PROCEDURE Test_sp@ID intasBEGIN TRANUPDATE MyTableSET col1 = 'bla bla'WHERE [ID] = @IDSELECT@rowcount = @@ROWCOUNT,@error = @@ERRORIF @error = 0 AND @rowcount =1GOTO SUCS_STEPELSEROLLBACK TRANSACTION TRC_EVENTGOTO ERROR_STEPENDERROR_STEP:RETURN 0SUCS_STEP:COMMIT TRANSACTION TRC_EVENTRETURN 1GO-------------------------------------------------------------------------------The update statement is itself in transaction so why there are need to wrapto tranasction. So PLZ explain in wich cases i need to wrap (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE)statements intotransactions????ONLY when i perform a single statement i.e one insert or one delete or oneupdate !!!!TNX.--"Imagination is more important than knolwege" (Albert Einshtein)Message posted via SQLMonster.comhttp://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forum...eneral/200508/1
i am using sql2005, the data inserted into the database by using createuserwizrd. after that anyone give me this error anyone ? any thought? thanks please An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. SQLExpress database file auto-creation error: The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist. If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

Ok, I'm not quite sure how to approach this one. This is a VB.NET console app in which I want to capture each row and throw it into a table. The reason being, they want a report on what was processed...which I'll be able to do easily in Reporting Services 2005 once this crap is in a table where it should be. 1) What should I use to do this, dataset? I want to use stored procedures also, not inline SQL Function here takes an incoming file, and splits it up into separate files. I want to insert each row that is succesfully split Public Sub ProcessFiles(ByVal sIncomingfile As String, ByVal sOutputDirectory As String) If sIncomingfile <> "" And sOutputDirectory <> "" Then Dim f As New Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission(Security.Permissions.PermissionState.None) f.AllLocalFiles = Security.Permissions.FileIOPermissionAccess.Read Dim file As New IO.FileInfo(sIncomingfile) Dim filefs As IO.FileStream = Nothing If file.Exists Then Try filefs = New IO.FileStream(file.FullName, IO.FileMode.Open) 'Place: 1 Catch ex As Exception SendEmail("Incoming .mnt or .naf Filename Invalid or not found", "Place: 1") Application.Exit() End Try End If Dim reader As New IO.StreamReader(filefs) Dim counter As Integer = 0 Dim CurrentFS As IO.FileStream Dim CurrentWriter As IO.StreamWriter Dim extension As String = IO.Path.GetExtension(file.FullName) If extension = ".mnt" Then While Not reader.Peek < 0 Dim Line As String = reader.ReadLine If IsNumeric(Line.Substring(0, 1)) Then Dim Parts() As String = Line.Split(" "c) ' split row into parts If Parts(0).Length = 8 Then ' if first part is 8 then know we hit another header so cut and then write to file counter += 1 If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.Flush() : CurrentWriter.Close() CurrentFS = New IO.FileStream(IO.Path.Combine(IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(sOutputDirectory), Line.Substring(59, 4) & "[" & counter.ToString & "]" & Now.ToString("MM-dd-yyyy") & IO.Path.GetExtension(file.FullName)), IO.FileMode.Create) CurrentWriter = New IO.StreamWriter(CurrentFS) End If If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.WriteLine(Line) End If End If End While If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.Flush() : CurrentWriter.Close() MoveFilesFTP(sOutputDirectory, "mnt") ElseIf extension = ".naf" Then While Not reader.Peek < 0 Dim Line As String = reader.ReadLine If Not IsNumeric(Line.Substring(0, 1)) Then ' if first part is not a number, then we know it's a header so split the file counter += 1 If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.Flush() : CurrentWriter.Close() CurrentFS = New IO.FileStream(IO.Path.Combine(IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(sOutputDirectory), Line.Substring(6, 4) & "[" & counter.ToString & "]" & Now.ToString("MM-dd-yyyy") & IO.Path.GetExtension(file.FullName)), IO.FileMode.Create) CurrentWriter = New IO.StreamWriter(CurrentFS) End If If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.WriteLine(Line) End If End While If Not CurrentWriter Is Nothing Then CurrentWriter.Flush() : CurrentWriter.Close() MoveFilesFTP(sOutputDirectory, "naf") End If Else 'input file not valid SendEmail("Incoming .mnt or .naf Filename Invalid", "Place: 1") End If End Sub

Hello all, I've been asked to build a .net web application, where users will be able to upload, search and view images. There will probably be about 2000 - 10000 users who will upload and view photos each day. Each image that is uploaded, is saved as a thumbnail, a small image, and the original. So considering the possible amount of data being uploaded, stored, searched for and viewed, whats the best way to store the images? Database or File system? Whats would be the fastest option for a web application? Should I even be looking at a different solution? cheers! Matty
I have recently designed and built my first database using SQL server 2005 express. I have included an image (BLOB) column in one of the database tables. This is a bad idea according to some experts, and some say it is OK!
I am currently carrying out a trial with just 3 pictures via Visual Basic 2005 express forms, and there is no problem so far as the images are displayed for each record. But I anticipate between 300 - 1000 images for the table, and this could pose real problems for SQL server 2005 express and Visual Basic 2005 express, I guess.
I have just been reading that the cost of storing large images in the database is too high! I have also read it's better to store images (BLOB) into the file system because it is cheaper to store them no matter how many there are.
But the question is how I can reference an image in this path: C:PictureProductGrocery 0052745.jpg in the database table, so that when I select a record Visual Basic 2005 forms the image is displayed accordingly, similar as when stored directly in the database table? Your help very much appreciated.
How do I insert data from a flat file or .csv file into an existing SQL database???
Here what I've come up with thus far and I but it doesn't work. Can someone please help? Let me know if there is a better way to do this... Idealy I'd like to write straight to the sql database and skip the datset all together...

I have a well-structured but also very large binary data-set that is generated by a C++ application every five minutes. The data needs to be accessed by SQL applications. Since data is generated every five minutes, performance is key, both for write and read. The data set is about 500MB.If data is written to the file system, the write performance doesn't involve SQL server. For reading it, I have a CLR to read the portions of the data that I need based on offset and length. That works and is very fast. The problem is that data is stored in the file system, so it is not self-contained within the database.
A second option that I haven't explored yet, is to write the data into a table as VARBINARY(MAX). I would read the data using SUBSTRING with appropriate offset and length. Performance of SQL write/read of binary data of this size, and whether there is a third option I haven't thought off. I'm using SQL Server 2014.
The MDF and LDF files are placed in SSD drive and tempdb files are placed in HDD drive. Snapshot isolation is enabled on the database. When a script is executed to insert data with NULL value to a table which has NOT NULL column, the transaction fails and then a log undo happens which fails and takes the database to suspect mode.
But when the MDF and LDF files are placed in HDD drive all this do not happen. The transaction just fails.
When Create Mirror Database Server, Where need to store the Transaction Log backup file?I took FULL Backup of my Primary Database, and I restored at my Mirror Server also. When I try to create a Mirror Database."The remote copy of database "<db_name>" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:1412)".I am misplacing the Transaction Log backup file. Where I need to store that file?
Is there a way in SQL Server 2005 to insert a unique row, and that the primary key column (which is an int typed) will get an index number ? I want this in order to avoid code behind logic.
I mean something like incrementing from last index if all lower numbers are already present, or retrieving the "holed" index ...
I received an alert from one of my two secondary servers (all servers are running 2012 SP1):
File 'E:SQLMS SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAMyDatabaseName_DateTime.tuf' is not a valid undo file for database 'MyDatabaseName (database ID 8). Verify the file path, and specify the correct file.
The detail in the job step shows this additional information:
*** Error: Could not apply log backup file 'MyDatabaseName_DateTime.trn' to secondary database 'MyDatabaseName'.(Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.LogShipping) ***
*** Error: Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_headerVersion == HEADER_7_0) failed. Values are 0 and 1.

Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_freeData >= PageHeaderOverhead () && m_freeData <= (UINT)PAGESIZE - m_slotCnt * sizeof (Slot)) failed. Values are 0 and 8192. Starting a few minutes later, the Agent Job named LSRestore_MyServerName_MyDatabaseName fails every time it runs. The generated log backup, copy, and restore jobs run every 15 minutes.
I fixed the immediate problem by running a copy-only full backup on the primary, deleting the database on the secondary and restoring the new backup on the secondary with NORECOVERY. The restore job now succeeds and all seems fine. The secondaries only exists for DR purposes - no one runs reports against them or uses them at all. I had a similar problem last weekend on a different database that is also replicated between the same servers. I've been here for over a year, and these are the first instances of this problem that I've seen. However, I've now seen it twice in a week on the same server.
I have one package (Primary) that calls 4 Packages(1,2,3,4) throw an SQL Server Connection. That 4 packages create 4 distinct files from a a Streamwriter. The files area created in a Script component
I call the execution of the packages from an Web Page that calls the job an execute the package Primary.
The first two packages (1,2) create the file and everithing goes ok.
The third one(3) "blows up" with the exception:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.HandleUserException(Exception e) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.ProcessInput(Int32 inputID, PipelineBuffer buffer) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostProcessInput(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Int32 inputID, IDTSBuffer90 pDTSBuffer, IntPtr bufferWirePacket)
The next try that i made was to comment in the package Primary the execution of the packages 1,2 and run the package 3,4.
The package 3 run ok and the package 4 blows up with
"System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.HandleUserException(Exception e) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.ProcessInput(Int32 inputID, PipelineBuffer buffer) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostProcessInput(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Int32 inputID, IDTSBuffer90 pDTSBuffer, IntPtr bufferWirePacket)"
The next try that i made was to comment in the package Primary the execution of the packages 1,2,3 and run the package 4.
It run Ok.
When the package 3 and 4 blows up they create the file but they don't write.
In all the executions that i made i deleted the files that were created.
When I run the packages from the development solution and using file system connection everything runs.
We have created a DDL trigger on SQL server 2005 database for DB audit purpose. Following is the script used for trigger creation

I have Full database backup upto previous day and transaction logfile of Today transaction. my database has crashed. I have restored previous day's Full backup. I have faced difficulty to restore today's transaction from today's transaction log. What are the steps to restore full database back and one day's transaction log file. Note: there is no differential database backup and transaction backup.
I have a script that is utilizing an FTP task to retrieve files from a Windows FTP site without any issues. I need to check the dates of the files on the FTP site prior to downloading them as I only need files that have been modified. Since these files are hundreds of MB in size, downloading them first and them checking the date is not an optimal approach. Can somebody please help me figure out how to check the creation dates of the files on the remote FTP directory? Thanks!
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
Hello. My application reads one file with more or less than 80 000 rows(like 09905003101399800464520220080408710200070050000020 90604500012000 ) Based on the index of each character the row is splited in 8 columns and then i must verify that 5 of this columns are not allready in the database... if they are the row is a duplicate and will not be inserted.
Wich is the best way to do that? To make 80000 cals to the database or to send the file as xml to the database and after that to parse it ....... or if you know any other way it would help me very much.
In this moment i m using the 80000 calls method and it takes ~20 hours. Please advice.... any advice will be highly apreciated. Thank you.
I'm trying to read the folder which has flat files and transform it and put it another folder with the SAME original name. I created a For Eachloop containter and assign it to variable infile. In the data flow I added some transform and flat file destination. currently its reading 3 files and output is only one file. I would like to create dynamic flat file connection so that it'll create separate files (same name) in different folder. Thanks,
I'm new to SSIS. I have a small problem. In our system we are trying to create flat files based on data from returned from different SQL stored procedures. The configuration settings for creating the flat files are stored in a SQL table.
For example, the config table will look like below :
Feed Id Feed Name Feed File Name Feed Stored Procedure Name ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 Biz C:Biz.txt dvx_GetBiz 2 PG C:PG.csv dvx_GetPG 3 NexT C:NexT.txt dvx_GetNexT 4 Amez C:Amez.csv dvx_GetAmez
The problem is dvx_GetBiz, dvx_GetPG,... all have different number and types of columns. So, I'm not able to create a dynamic Flat File destination depending on the columns returned from the corresponding stored procedure.
Hello everyone!I'm having a problem with inserting the content of a text file into a Sql Server 2005 database.I'm reading the text file into a dataset, and works fine. What I can't do is what I suspect is the simple part: Insert all the data into a table that has exactly the same configuration that the file. I've never worked with dataset's before, and I can't seem to find the answer to this! This is what I have done so far: Dim i2 As Integer Dim j As Integer Dim File As String = Server.MapPath("..DocsFactsFORM_MAN_V3_1.txt") Dim TableName As String = "Facts" Dim delimiter As String = "9"
Dim result As DataSet = New DataSet() Dim s As StreamReader = New StreamReader(File) Dim columns As String() = s.ReadLine().Split(Chr(9)) result.Tables.Add(TableName) Dim strs1 As String() = columns For i2 = 0 To CInt(strs1.Length) - 1 Dim col As String = strs1(i2) Dim added As Boolean = False Dim [next] As String = "" Dim i As Integer = 0 While Not added Dim columnname As String = String.Concat(col, [next]) columnname = columnname.Replace(Chr(9), "") If Not result.Tables(TableName).Columns.Contains(columnname) Then result.Tables(TableName).Columns.Add(columnname) added = True Else i += 1 [next] = String.Concat("_", i.ToString()) End If End While Next i2 Dim strs2 As String() = s.ReadToEnd().Split(Chr(13) & Chr(10).ToString()) For j = 0 To CInt(strs2.Length) - 1 Dim items As String() = strs2(j).Split(Chr(9)) result.Tables(TableName).Rows.Add(items) Next j So now I have my dataset populated with all the information, but how can I insert it into the database? If anyone can help I would appreciate very, very much!Thank you Paula
I work with sql server 2008 on a database.we have export schema and datas with the command export datas
click rigth on database => tasks => generate scripts => select all object => click advanced => select type of data to script => schema and data
Now we have a file with all datas and schema That's perfect ...But how i can insert the file in a other database?ok i can copy paste all datas in management studio and press f5 but when i do this the management studio fail because the size of the file is > 200 mega !
