Dear expert, please show me some examples of how I can update an Microsoft SQL table data with an excel sheet. Meaning, when I upload an excel sheet using an ASPX page the data in the excel sheet will be transfer to a particular table in the database. Thank you in advance.
I have a daily package that extracts some data and writes it into an excel file. I want to write over the existing data, but the excel destination only appends the next free location in the worksheet. I tried using a SQL task to grab the file, set all the cells = NULL and then run the rest of the package, thinking it would see the null cells as empty and write in them, but somehow it knows where the previous data ended and keeps appending further down in the workbook.
Does anyone know of a workaround so I do not have to delete and re-create the file everytime?
I need to export data from a table of SQL server 2000 database, into an Excel 2000 sheet. I tried following query from the sql query analyzer
Code SnippetSELECT * INTO [Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls].[sheet1] FROM tab1
It gave me following error
Code SnippetServer: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Specified owner name 'Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.
The F:ew.xls file is present and it has no additional security applied, hence I think it should be writable.
Please tell me where am I doing wrong.
I don't know if this is the correct news group or not. Let me know if I have to post to some other news group.
I'm trying to write data from a session into database but it won't work. Could someone help me what is wrong with this.
cobjDT = Session("cart") For each cobjDR in cobjDT.rows Dim cmdInsert2 as New SQLCommand("order_details", loConn) cmdInsert2.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmdInsert2.Parameters("@Mangd").Value = Request(cobjDR("Quantity")) loConn.Open() cmdInsert2.ExecuteNonQuery() loConn.Close() next
When I execute this an error message comes

I use same character types in storedProcedure what they are in the database and when I call the SP on my page the char types are same as they are in the SP
I have an SSIS package that produces an Excel output file say File1 The Excel output file is created from a previous script task by copying a standard excel template to File1 after the copy, File1 has the disclaimer, legend etc... and a header row at row 10. So data rows should only start at row 11.
I was googling and found that people who read Excel file using an Excel source component have been successful reading from a range by the use of the OPENROWSET property. It is said to set this property to Sheet1$A5-B999 to start reading from row 5.
I tried to set the OPENROWSET property to be Sheet1$A11-B999 but am getting an error "Check that object exists" (Sheet1 does exist) So I guess it is the range that has an improper syntax or something else is wrong.
I'm searching a way get Excel data into SQL database and tried this "insert" process that given me error. Already create a table call "original_purged" contain column fields. Can anyone give me some tips to show the problem?

Hey guys,I am trying to import data from an Excel spreadsheet into my SQLdatabase. I am running SQL 2005.I following Microsoft's instructions for creating a linked server, andit appeared to work. However when I run this query:SELECT * INTO test FROM OPENQUERY(EFORMS,'SELECT * FROM [Form Tracker Baseline$]')I get the following error:The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server"EFORMS" reported an error. The provider did not give any informationabout the error.Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider"Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "EFORMS".Test is the table that will receive the imported data. Eforms is thename of my linked server, and Form Tracker Baseline is the worksheetname.The error sounds like it can not locate my spreadsheet. Any ideas whyI am getting this message? Is there an easier way to do this import?Thanks,

I have an excel spreadsheet that only has email addresses in a single columnar format on it (318 emails). I want to check and see if any of those emails are in the database. Is there a easier way than having to enter 300+ "OR" statements?
SELECT "Name"."FIRST_NAME", "Name"."LAST_NAME", "Name"."EMAIL", "Name"."ID", "Name"."MEMBER_TYPE" FROM "APSCU_PROD"."dbo"."Name" "Name" WHERE Name.EMAIL='marie@bahoo.com' OR Name.EMAIL='markg@ts.com' OR Name.EMAIL='mare@t.edu'
I have gone through most of the question posed by people, about importing data from EXCEL sheet to some table using SQL server database. I have a slight variation of this problem.
My excel file contains some information apart from the normal data. Lets say some 5-6 lines always gives me some info about the data, like its purpose, client info, date etc... After this INFO my actually data start, which I want to load into table.
I have found some wizard for the same, "EMS SQL MANAGER 2005", which supports most of the file formats, and load data into the database.
But we are planning to not use this tool, instead everything should be done using TSQL.
If somebody can please gives me some idea how this problem can be tackle, it would be a great help. We won't be using any Third party tools, like scripting etc...
Hi everyone got a problem here! I have an existing data in excel and it is more than 10,000 cells that I need to import to my new SQL Database. How can I transfer those records easily without using INSERT commands in SQL? Because I'm afraid it's too hard to do.
I face a small problem in DTS, hope you can help me to solve this issue.
I designed a DTS package to import excel data ( with 4 column ) into SQL server database,The database design for the database table was
column name type length
ID bigint 8
CountedQty decimal 9
Location nvarchar 8
Other nvarchar 50
The DTS package is work and does not appear any error message. But the data in column 'Location' appeared <Null> after import into the database, this issue happen when the excel data was <numeric> value (string value in this data column can be accepted and appear nicely).
Izzit because nvarchar cannot accept numeric value ?
I have encountered a problem. In the past i run a sql query to select all the data from the excel file and insert them into my SQL database. However recently i encountered an error when i run the query.
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 4 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "excel_ls" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 4 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "excel_ls".
Can anyone tell me how can I achieve the file import of XLS file and read the data inside to insert into the respective table in my SDF database in the mobile devices?
I have a cube with a partition configures in write back.
Users in Excel need to see the totals of the line. Unfornately they have the bad idea to write in this cell sometimes and not in the leaf cells.
As there is some MDX code behind in the weight expression field, we got some weird values : one is negative and others ARe 10 times the initial value in the total. So it's very dangerous.
How can we block the writing in this totals cells ?

Dear all,, I need your help,,I'm work in website project using ASP.NET,,I have to register the users of this site,, the users are over 200,,so,,I'm thinking in away to save my time,,All the information of these users are stored in Excel file,,What I want to do is to imports these data from the excel file into a table in my database(SQLserver database),,Could you help in coding by VB.NETThanks in advance,,
I've created an excel spreadsheet with a data connection. This data connection uses a query that runs against a read-only database.
The issue I'm having is that the query never seems to finish running against the database, whether I open the Excel spreadsheet to view the data or run the query in SSMS.
I created the connection on the Data ribbon by going to From Other Sources --> From SQL Server and using the Data Connection Wizard.
Is there some kind of setting or property I'm missing that would allow this query to finish running?
I want to import data from excel (1.2 million rows in 1 sheet) to SQL Server 2014 database. I am using SQL Server 2014 Import Export Data functionality and getting this error - unexpected unrecoverable error.
3 buttons beside it - abort, retry, ignore - all having the import export to close.
But I could successfully import data from excel file having less rows (150000 rows)
Why does it take me 4 hours to set up an SSIS package that I can run from a SQL job to extract data from a SQL database to and Excel workbook. Shouldn't this be easy to do with 2 Microsoft products? Writing the query to extract the data takes 10 minutes, the rest of this process should take less than that.
I should be able to create a new job that runs my query (I can actually do that) and saves the data to an Excel workbook. Why can't I do that?
Academy details tables, Academy Students table, Academy Student Parents table, Academy class Section Table, Academy Staff table.
I have created the tables and data into the database. And Now I need to prepare a Excel sheet to upload data into the these tables. How to prepare the Xlsx sheet and how to upload into database without using SSIS package.
Hi, I'm a Student, and since a few months ago I'm learning JAVA. I'm creating an application to call and compare times. For this I create in Excel a time table which is quite big and it would be a lot of typing work to input one by one the data in each cell in SQL Server, considering that I have to create 8 more tables. I was able to retreive the data from excel usin the JXL API of JAVA but it doesn't give all the funtions to perform math operations as JDBC. That's why I need to move the tables from Excel to SQL. I found this site http://davidhayden.com/blog/dave/archive/2006/05/31/2976.aspx which gives a code to do so, but I guess that some heathers are missing or maybe I don't know which compiler to use to run that code, I would like you help to identify which compiler use to run that code or if there is some vital piece of code missing.// Connection String to Excel Workbook string excelConnectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft .Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=Book1.xls;Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=YES;""";
// Create Connection to Excel Workbook using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(excelConnectionString)) { OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand ("Select ID,Data FROM [Data$]", connection);
connection.Open();
// Create DbDataReader to Data Worksheet using (DbDataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader()) { // SQL Server Connection String string sqlConnectionString = "Data Source=.; Initial Catalog=Test;Integrated Security=True";
// Bulk Copy to SQL Server using (SqlBulkCopy bulkCopy = new SqlBulkCopy(sqlConnectionString)) { bulkCopy.DestinationTableName = "ExcelData"; bulkCopy.WriteToServer(dr); } } } On the other hand in this forum I that someelse use that link but implements a totally different code which I'm not able to compile also http://forums.asp.net/p/1110412/2057095.aspx#2057095. It seems this code works as I was able to read, but I do not know which language is used. Dim excelConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft .Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=Book1.xls;Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=YES;"""
' Using
Dim connection As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection(excelConnectionString)
Try
Dim command As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand("Select ID,Data FROM [Data$]", connection) connection.Open()
' Using
Dim dr As DbDataReader = command.ExecuteReader
Try
Dim sqlConnectionString As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("CampaignEnterpriseConnectionString").ConnectionString
' Using
Dim bulkCopy As SqlBulkCopy = New SqlBulkCopy(sqlConnectionString)
End Try The Compilers I have are: Eclipse, Netbeans, MS Visual C++ Express Edition and MS Visual C# Express Edition. In MS Visual C++ Thanks for your help. Regads, Robert.
I have a requirement where we have to connect to two different data-sources one is Database Table and another one is Excel Source. I know we can do this by creating a SSIS package and loading the excel data into database table and then based on some relationship between the tables we can create the data-set in SSRS. But I am looking for some other approach where I can do this without creating the SSIS package.
