XML Schema - At Least One Instance Of Top Level Datatype Must Be Included In File

I have designed an XML schema in which defines the data structures expected in an xml file that our software will import. This is used to validate the files.The current problem is that the validation passes any correctly formatted xml file that does not contain any of our data structures. Is it possible to put something in the schema that says that at least one instance of our toplevel datatype must be included in the file?. I know using minOccurs="1" but I can only see how to use with a definition of a datatype - not the xml file itself.

I use an XML configuration file for my SSIS package, and I have "Enable package configurations" checked. When I build the package, however, there is no dtsConfig file in the output (set to in) or the Deployment folder, and the config file is not included in the SSISDeploymentManifest file. There are no build errors or warnings.
This was working fine the last time I worked on this package (~9 months ago), but not now. I have since installed SP2, but can't confirm if the problem is related to a "fix" in SP2.

I start by creating the relation between subscriber/Publisher and the
subscriber and than I move up to the main Publisher and

I have set up a two level merge replication with a publisher and a
subscriber and had modified the structure of a table in the publisher
with sp_repladdcolumn. During the day all was fine I continuously
tested it by adding more columns, droping columns and testing the
replication itself with data entry, but when I got back
the next morning my test table and all other table I presume had lost
its data and structure. The conflict table for the corresponding test
table had kept it's structure but no data were present since no
conflict had occured. This is a recuring problem that some colleagues
had.
Does anyone have any idea what might cause this problem and why it
happenned.

My developers would like a 'sandbox' database with full ddl and dml permissions, however, they do not want others to read/change/drop their objects. With SQL 2005, can DDL permissions be granted to a user at the schema level? I'd rather not set up a database for each developer.

The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is:
"The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. "
The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense. It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online?

I work for a central IT facility which provides services to all the departments in the organisation. Management are proposing to extend the current database hosting service to a full blown DBA service as well. The role is to be split between the hosting team, who had also been providing high level functions like replication, and a dba team who will take on the database administration. There is to be a strict delineation of responsibilities with the hosting team looking after everything at the instance level and the database team managing the databases. The hosting team will retain the sysadmin role and grant sql permissions to the database team as and when they need them.

I have received an alert on a server that is running SQL 2005. 'The service pack level of SQL instance is not upto date'.
I have right clicked the connection properties and found that current version is 9.00.1399.06 How can I tell which Service pack the SQL 2005 is currently on?
Do you know of any articles to upgrade service packs?

How you are handling the replication of the many instance-level objects/items (logins, linked servers, server roles, database mail, operators, on and on) to the replicas in an AlwaysOn topology.
I'm especially curious about DBAs managing larger SQL Server environments. In my current environment, we have approximately 80 production SQL instances containing about 650 databases that require high availability and disaster recovery.
We use mirroring today and have a solid, home-grown solution for replicating the instance-level items from production to disaster recovery. AlwaysOn changes things a bit since we'll have multiple replicas and of course the database could be active on any one of those at any time. So my concern is about instance-level items being created in one instance but never deployed to the other instances participating in the AG group.

I can successfully create a db using pull method, when I try to push back data I got the following SQLCE error:
"Another user has opened the database with different instance-level initialization properties. [ 32 ]"
Before calling the push method I did

but after the assignment the LocalConnectionString is different from ConnectionStringWithoutCredentials, there are much more ssce parameters.
What I don't understand is:
why I'm getting this error even after closing the connection ?
Since the error report [32] the ssce conflicting parameters shoud be AUTO_SHRINK_THRESHOLD, FLUSH_INTERVAL and MAX_DATABASE_SIZE
I tried to cut & paste the same values from LocalConnectionString into app.config connection string, at first It seemed to work, but now I got the same error.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi There,This is related to a ms access database but since I use the SqlDataSource control I thought I should post here.I have a project that I was working on with this ms access db and using sql controls, everything was working just finesince one day I started getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" messages when I try to designa query or retrieve a schema, nothing works at design time anymore but at runtime everything is perfect, its a lotof work for me now to create columns,schemas and everything manually, I've tried reinstalling visualstudio, ado componentsbut nothing seems to fix it, did this ever happen to any of you guys?any tip is really appreciated thanks a lot

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. I am a complete newbie with SSIS. I started working with Flat Files today and have made some progress.
I have a task that requires me to pull out data from a | delimeted list with 160+ columns in a row. I am working with Movie and Entertainment data. So each movie has a number of actors associated with it.
For example:
MOVIEID|Zoolander|...|...|...|...|..................|Owen Wilson|Ben Stiller|Will Ferrel|...|...|...............|
I would like to take all the actors out of the middle of this long line of columns and place them in an Actors table with the movieID. However, when I look at Flat File Source, all I see is my X number of columns in the one row for all the actors (actor1-20).
Is there a way to make a new flat file that references the other flat file and can split up a certain amount of columns by rows inside of the middle of an existing row?
I hope that makes sence. Basically I would like to make a relational database schema out of ONE Flat File.

To put in context, we are using BizTalk to get the result from a stored proc and export it to a text file using a XML schema (XSD). The XSD includes formatting info such as the justification, padding, etc. We are moving this process to SSIS and we want to reuse the BizTalk schemas.
Is it possible?

I have some questions about creating SQL Server CE databases. Based on my experiments and what I've read on these forums, it looks like there are a couple ways to create a database schema. I can edit the database schema via the Server Explorer in Visual Studio, or use an external program like SQL Server Management Studio and somehow convert those files to .sdf files.
I find Visual Studio's built in tools to be cumbersome to use and limited in functionality, and using SSMS seems like a roundabout way of approaching the problem. I understand Microsoft will be releasing better tools with Orcas, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if there are alternative ways to generate database schemas.
For instance, I find Visual Studio's DataSet designer fairly easy to use. The DataSet designer generates schema definitions (.xsd files), and an instantiated DataSet can both read and write schema definitions via Read/WriteXMLSchema. Furthermore, DataAdapter's Fill and FillSchema methods can be used to push a schema from a database to a DataSet. So, can I somehow go the other direction and push a schema from a DataSet to a database? It seems like all the tools are there...
For example, if I create the DataSet schema, could I use a small app to create a new .sdf file, instantiate a DataSet, write the schema from the DataSet to the database, and then save the .sdf file? Or given the generated .xsd file, is there any way to create a SQL database from that?

Is there any ability to do database-level triggers in SQL 2000? I have a SQL 2000 database, and I was asked if we could create a trigger that whenever anyone touches the data in a database, to create an entry in an event log? If not, I have a main table I can put a trigger on; however, my question is how do you write to a file in a trigger as well?

I was trying to create filegroup and files on Mount Point, e.g. C:MOUNTFG1D1
If I try this:

FILENAME = 'C:MOUNTFG1D1FG1F1.ndf',
It doesn't work, no matter what ACL I set on C:, C:MOUNT, or C:MOUNTFG1D1
But if I do this:
......
FILENAME = 'C:MOUNTFG1D1DATAFG1F1.ndf',
It will work, no need to set any ACL at all.
Any ideas?

Provided that we have 2 type of tables, the first type of tables with schema schema_a and the second type with schema schema_b.Also 2 filegroups apart from primary created: filegroup_a and filegroup_b.How can I configure so that when table with schema schema_a created, it can be put on filegroup filegroup_a automatically and when table with schema schema_b created, it can be put on filegroup filegroup_b automatically?

I am currently migrating from Oracle to MS SQL Server 2005 using SSIS. Since the new schema being used on the SQL Server is very different, we have created separate packages for each target table.
We have several different sets of data stored as separate Oracle schemas, and I would now like to change to a different schema for the OLE DB Source objects in my packages to use (Table/column names to remain the same). While I can go through all packages and search through the drop-down list to select the table of the same name from other Schema, doing so is an extremely slow process.
Is it possible to use configuration files to set a schema to be used for a number of OLE DB Sources over a number of packages?
At the moment I am doing a find and replace over the .dtsx files, but can't believe I have to resort to this for something that I imagine many people would want to do with SSIS.

Hi all,
I have created a dts (.dtsx file). which gets the data from my log file and insert into my sql 2005 table. In dts i am using 'Flat File Source' and 'OLE DB Destination' (becoz i need to acess my db remotely). When i execute this through 'SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio' it's working fine but when i execute this through my c# code, it throws me an error 'The product level is insufficient for component Flat File Source (1)'.

Greetings:
I have a database that is 1.7terabyte in size with 136gb free and throws a "transport level error" telling me to discard the results when I run dbccshrinkfile ('DBNAME', size). I have tried various increments of size, from truncateonly to 1MB below its current value, and nothing works. I have tried to detach and reattach the db, restart the service, restart the server, and none have provided a solution. Any ideas?

Good afternoon,
I have an issue with an ssis variable datatype.
The scenario is as follows:
I have a stored procedure:
PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_newTransaction]
@sourceSystem varchar(50),
@txOut NUMERIC(18,0) OUTPUT
AS
insert into scn_transaction (sourceSystemName) values(@sourceSystem);
SELECT @txOut = @@identity
Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).
I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:
exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?
The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:
User:ystxId output numeric 1 -1
User:ourceSys input varchar 0 -1
The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.
At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.
I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.
