Your Upgrade Is Blocked.. When Adding Components To SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1
Sep 28, 2006
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools
Hello,
I am having a problem when trying to add the Client Components to an existing installation of SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1 running on Windows 2003 Standard. The server was originally built with SQL 2005 Standard Edition and had SP1 installed at a later date. I am using the CD that SQL was originally installed with which is not a service packed copy of SQL. The reason given when clicking the details button is as follows:
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
Please can someone give me a url or even their own list of support / unsupported components in SQL server 2005 Standard edition.
I know fuzzy lookup is not supported. Is a slowly changing dimension supported?
Its a bit difficult to tell when I get bizzare "Product level is insufficient" error for even a basic derived column transformation when executing a package using SSIS unless it is executed using a scheduled job....
I'd like to upgrade from my current SQL Server version: 09.00.3042 (Workgroup edition that comes with SBS upgrade) to the standard edition that I've just purchased. I've attempted to run setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1 from the command prompt and it just tells me that there's nothing new to install.
I don't really want to uninstall the current installation just to do something that shouldn't be complicated to do, upgrading software versions should not be a difficult process.
because we installed the SQL Server 2005-64Bit Developer Edition on a 2003 Server R2-64Bit with 10GB RAM an 2 Xeon. Now we have huge performance problems wich should be better using the Stadard Edition...
I don't know if it is easily possible to upgrade by only inserting the DVD and start the Setup...
Having some problems Upgrading from SQL Express 2005 SP2 to SQL 2005 Standard. I'm getting the following:
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
Pretty sure that I have to have SQL 2005 Std w/SP2 but I don't have a CD with it on. Is there a way that I can create one so that I can upgrade the SQL Instance In-Place.
Has anyone tried an in-place upgrade from SQL Server 2005 Developer to Standard Edition?
It apears to be a valid upgrade path according to this: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx
Is it just a case of changing the registered licensing info? (I presume all the functionality for Standard exists in the Developer Edition) Or is it a reinstall job?
I want to use a dev license for development on the server, then once its finished, just leave it in place on the box and upgrade the licensing to standard edition. (The client doesn't yet have a Standard License, but does have a Dev License - and wants me to start right away!)
If its going to boil down to having to do a full re-installation then I should get a Standard license from the start, if its just a minor license key change, then I can use a Dev license straight away!
I tried to upgrade an Express edition 2005 to Standard Edition 2005. I did remember to use the command prompt setup parameter to allow the upgrade but still the option to upgrade is disabled. Can upgrade from express to standard?
I did run upgrade advisior to check the existed sql 2005 standard edition to upgrade to enterprise editon. I got the following error message:
SQL Server version: 09.00.1399 is not supported by this release of Upgrade Advisor
Is it means the upgrade advisor can only work on from 7.0, 2000 to 2005? If I need check from standard to enterjprise in 2005, what kind of tool I can use?
Just bought the SQL server 2005 standard edition software to replace the express edition that I have been running for the last 6 months.
The setup works fine until I ask it to install the management studio.
At this stage it seems to think that I have a newer version already installed and tells me that it won't upgrade it.
I then wend through the add/remove sotware function in control panel and removed everything to do with SQL server and tried again. The same thing happened.
Hi, I currently have a license for SQL Server Standard 2005 that I would like to implement, but do not have the media. Is there a way to upgrade the developer edition and apply the license to it, thus creating a valid, licensed, Standard 2005 copy? Thanks!
Current set-up: three node cluster running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 with two instances of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2.
Virtual node 1: Standard Edition, default instance, Database Engine only
Virtual node 2: Standard Edition, named instance, Database Engine, Analysis Services and Integration Services
Physical node A: Prefered node for virtual node 1
Physical node B: Failover node for both virtual node 1 and 2 (thus having two installations of Standard Edition)
Physical node C: Prefered node for virtual node 2
We started off with this set-up because there was no need for Enterprise features, and SQL 2005 supports failover clustering with two nodes in Standard Edition. Saved a bundle of cash, so everybody's happy. Now we need to run a solution on virtual node 2 that requires Enterprise features in Analysis and Integration Services, so an edition upgrade is required on virtual node 2. I have done some research and found several edition upgrade examples, but none that match the above scenario. We are running production on these machines, so I can't risk experimenting with command line options, I have to be right the first time.
Is it possible to mix two editions of SQL Server 2005 in one cluster? Can I upgrade virtual node 2 to Enterprise but leave virtual node 1 at Standard? What procedure do I have to follow to upgrade all three components of virtual node 2 to Enterprise Edition on both physical node B and C?
I am getting the following error while attempting to install the Workstation components on my SQL2005 Standard Server.
To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.
I know the problem is related to a previous installation of Enterprise Edition on the same server. I have tried deleting all SQL files, and registry keys yet I am still getting the same error.
I have recently upgraded a SQL x64 server from Developer Edition to Standard Edition, This succeeded without issue. Following a reboot SQL Server yielded the following message
Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with unable to load SQLBoot.DLL. Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this issue.
I have a SQL Server 2005 evaluation that has already been installed and setup on a server. I believe it originally had a 180 day eval. There have been numerous databases and users added as well as maintenance plan created...
The eval was put on the machine as an interim solution while waiting for paper work and order processiing things to happen. All the paperwork and ordering... have been completed and I now have the real SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition license key ....
I am very new to SQL Server and need to determine ...
1. Can I update the eval copy to become permanently licensed?
2. Would I want to upgrade the eval to permanent? Will I lose any capabilities by keeping the current eval setup?
If it is reasonable to keep the eval setup
3. How do I go about entering the license key to make it permanent?
If it is necessary to install the new Standard Edition...
4. How do I install it while maintaining the already defined databases, data, users, maintenance plan...
Hi,Is there an Upgrade path from SQl server 2000 Standard edition toEnterprise edition? DO we just have to uninstall and do a reinstall?Any help is appreciated.ThanksGG
I have a SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition running in a cluster environment. There is the request to Upgrade to Standard Edition. (Yes, the other way round) How can I excute an Up-/Downgrade and avoid new installation ?
I am upgrading a sql server 2000 with sp4 (I have double and triple checked the sp) on a windows 2003 sp1 server and I keep getting the following error:
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Service pack requirement check: Your upgrade is blocked because of service pack requirements. To proceed, apply the required service pack and then rerun SQL Server Setup. For more information about upgrade support, see the Version and Edition Upgrades topic in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
I cannot find anything saying that I need any other service pack other than sp4 for sql serer 2000. Any one ever run into this or have a clue what might be causing the installer to think I have the wrong service pack?
Hi, right now I'm using SQL2000 Std Edition. Our new application requires an OLAP Svcs to be installed. As I found in SQLBooksOnline HTTP access to OLAP cubes is available only in OLAPSvsc Enterprise Edition. Do I have to upgrade SQL Std Edition as well or it is possible to run OLAP Enterprise on top of SQL2000 Standard? Does anyone of you know about step-by-step guide how to move SQL2K Std to SQL Ent?
Perhaps someone here can give me a hand with this...
I have three servers running SQL Server 2000. Two are running Windows Server 2000 SP4 with SQL 2000/SP4 and one Windows Server 2003 with SQL 2000/SP?(probably not 4). I copied the installation DVD to a network drive and successfully performed an in-place upgrade of the Windows Server 2003 machine. However, when I try to upgrade either of the other servers, I get an error indicating that I have a service pack problem.
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Of course, the error doesn't indicate what the service pack problem actually is. My SQL 2005 media was probably released before SP4 was released because the Setup Help indicates that you can directly upgrade from SP3, but makes no mention of SP4. I can't imagine there are any migration problems with it since I can't find any reference to it as a problem on any SQL Server sites... So... I'm left wondering what my problem really is...
I've inherited 6 sql server 2000 boxes. I've upgrade 3 with no trouble. now I have one that gives the message : "your upgrade is blocked because of cross-language compatibility rules. For more information about cross-language support, see the version..."
all servers are 2003, sp2. All SQL is Enterprise edition, default language is "english". even the collation order is the same. why the cross language message? Any help would be good else I'll be forced to rebuild the DB and load application again. ugly!!
I recently upgraded my MSDE server to SQL Server 2000 database. After the upgrade, I see, every minute,in the logfile that the database is starting whilst in Enterprise manager the database is up and running. I would be grateful if you could bail me out of this anomaly.

I am getting the following warning on a Live SQL 2000 system: This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has been exceeded by 1 queries and performance may be adversely affected. Reading about this error I realised that, by mistake, the version installed is a personal edition instead of the standard edition. I am thinking to backup the databases, uninstall SQL 2000 Personal edition, install Standard edition and restore the databases back. OR, disconnect the databases, uninstall the current version, install the standard version and re-connect the databases. I haven't found within Microsoft any advice how to upgrade the personal version to the standard edition. Because it is a live system, I would not like to mess the system up. Can you please advice? Many thanks
Hi -I have istalled sql server 2005 standard edition , I want to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on the same machine. Is it possible? I have Microsoft windows server 2003 SP2 and 1GB RAM. I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me? -If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database? - Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?
BTW, I am prety new to sql server and databases , I am trying to learn by myself
Hello!M a newbie.. I just want to know, that wots the difference b/w SQL Server Standard Edition and Express Edition.?And can I use Visual Studio 2005 (Professional Edition) with SQL Server Express Edition.?
Dear All,We have a database which contains many tables which have millions ofrecords. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 StandardEdition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) thenthey take very long time to execute while when We execute same querieson Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standardedition. Our database does not use any features which are present in EnterpriseEdition and not present in Standard Edition. We want to know what arethe differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition forperformance. Why should we go for Enterprise Edition when StandardEdition has all the features required. We are presently using evaluation versions of SQL Server 2005 Standardand Enterprise Editions. Thanks and regards,Nishant Sainihttp://www.simplyjava.com
I am attempting to upgrade a 2005 Standard Edtion to Enterprise Edition. This is a default instance. All components are upgraded successfully except the Database Engine. I receive the following error:
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.
After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.
Hi all--I'm researching the cleanest downgrade path from a trial edition of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise to a licensed Standard Edition copy. It looks like downgrading will entail uninstalling the old version and installing the new version, but I'd like to save the original setup as much as possible. Detaching the old databases will preserve the non-system databases; what method would work best for restoring the system databases?
I have SQL Server 2005 installed on a machine that was recently upgraded to SP2 (build 3042). The server never had the replication feature installed on it. I attempt to add replication to it and I get an error because (I think) I am installing from the initial version media (CD-ROM, build 1399) and the setup appears to want an MSI file for SP2. Any help is appreciated.
I followed the exact procedures in online help How to: Change Components in an Existing Instance of SQL Server 2005 (Setup), but after I get the Ready to Update page, I get the error box:
An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server 2005 cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package €˜SqlRun_SQL.msi€™.

As an ISV, I want to certify my product on Standard Edition. I am using Developer Edition everywhere. Is there a way I can do the certification using the Developer Edition, or do I need to obtain/purchase a copy of the Standard Edition?
I tried to download PerformancePoint Server Trial Version to ther server today and I got to the configuration point of the Analysis Services Setting, and when I clicked next to proceed with the configuration I got a popup error message: "Microsoft Analysis Server must be Evaluation, Developer or Enterprise Edition".
Now I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Disc (Bought it with Visual Studio 2005) but on the server I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, if I try to run the sql server developer Edition disc, I use the wizard download and it seems that the download is going through the SQL Server entire download, it's like I'm re-downloading SQL Server all over again.
Does that seem right? what is the best approach to work around this probelm?
