Access Datasource In Script Component
May 2, 2006
I'm trying to access a group of rows in a data source in my script
component (transformation). Currently im using the connection manager
in the script component, acquire the connection, and issue a query
command to get the data. This will happen on every rows being pass to
the script component from the data source. Is there a better way to
access the a group of rows from the data source?

I am trying to create a MS Access datasource to use it in a IS dataflow. I've done the following things:
1.I've created an ODBC datasource - System DSN, pointing to the Access database.
2.I've created an ODBC connection manager pointing to the ODBS datasource that I created in the previous step.
3.I've created a DataReader Source that uses as its Connection Manager the connection manager that I created in the previous step.
I get the following error message: "Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run-time connection manager." What can I do to solve this error?

Hi all,
Please advise which kind of connection should be establish from excel 95 to MS SQL Server.
From my thought, I understand that the connection depends on Windows version rather than excel version.
Thus, I just think that there will not be any issue connecting to SQL Server from Excel 5.0a.
Kindly advise if there is any addtional point to concern/consider further.
What could be issue connecting to SQL Server 2005 from Excel 5.0a.

Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get
The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1) could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.
Appreciate a help.

My script component defines a (DT_WSTR, 450) output column named keyword. How can I access its length within the script, instead of hard-coding 450 as a constant?
My feeble attempts to tease this out through Visual Studio got me this far:
Output0Buffer.keyword.GetType.GetProperty("Length").GetValue(
but now I'm stuck. Also, if it matters, this is an asynchronous transformation component.
Thanks!

Hi,
I've created a stand alone custom dataflow component in VB and I need to set up the connection to the Input and Output components and instantiate it. The only way I've seen this done is to create an entire package and Task then use the TaskHost wrapper object to instantiate the Mainpipe (IDTSPipline90 interface) so that you can create the IDTSPath90 interface and setup the connection to the input and output components...
After all that, all that I would like to know is whether it is possible to instantiate the mainpipe interface without creating a package programmatically? I've seen something Darren Green put in an answer to a thread, about accessing the Mainpipe interface in the UI, to the effect that you can access it through IServiceProvider using the interface IDTSPipelineEnvironmentService - I think that's it... But I'd like to know if there is a more straightforward route to instantiating and accessing the Task or data flow directly?
Thanks in advance,
Will.

I've followed all of the instructions in Donald Farmer's book to create a proxy to access my SSRS web service but keep getting the following error..."Type ReportingServices2005 is not defined"....on my Dim statement for the new ReportingServices2005.dll I created and all my methods (ListSubscriptions, etc.) are similarly flagged.
My brain is not yet .Net compliant so I probably screwed this up somewhere.
I executed the following....
wsdl /language:VB http://ssrs_servername/reportserver/reportservice.asmx
sn €“k "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0Bin
s.snk"
vbc /target:library /out:ReportingServices2005.dll /keyfile:"C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0Bin
s.snk" "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0BinReportingService.vb"
gacutil /if "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727ReportingServices2005.dll"
then I added a reference to the System.Web.Services to my project (script component) and added the import statement to the script.
Is there something I'm missing??

Hello, I am trying to configure a Script Component as a data source. Although this should be a simple exercise, I am running into a problem.
My control flow contains a Foreach Loop with a file iterator. The Directory Expression of the Foreach Loop Editor is supplied by an expression mapped to a package level variable called inputdirectory. The FileNameRetrieval Expression is mapped to a package scoped variable called filename.
My data flow is encapsulated by the Foreach Loop, and contains a Script Component as Source for the Data Flow Source, and a Flat File for the Data Flow Destination. The contents of the Script Designer are as follows:
Code Block
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper
Imports System.IO
Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent
Dim thisFileDate As Date
Dim thisFileName As String
Dim thisFilePath As String
Public Overrides Sub CreateNewOutputRows()
thisFileName = ReadOnlyVariables("filename").Value.ToString()
thisFilePath = ReadOnlyVariables("inputdirectory").Value.ToString()
thisFileDate = File.GetCreationTime(thisFilePath & "" & thisFileName)
FileSpecBuffer.AddRow()
FileSpecBuffer.FileName = thisFileName
FileSpecBuffer.FullPath = thisFilePath & "" & thisFileName
FileSpecBuffer.CreateDate = thisFileDate
End Sub
End Class
When I debug the package, I get the following error:
The collection of variables locked for read access is not available at this point.
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponent.get_ReadOnlyVariables()
at ScriptComponent_67311120e6eb4162a3ea1f70847f04de.ScriptMain.CreateNewOutputRows()
at ScriptComponent_67311120e6eb4162a3ea1f70847f04de.UserComponent.PrimeOutput(Int32 Outputs, Int32[] OutputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] Buffers)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.PrimeOutput(Int32 outputs, Int32[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers)
My googlefu fails me at reconciling this. I have read various posts about changing the line ReadOnlyVariables("filename").Value to ReadWriteVariables("filename").Value, and handling the buffer assignment in PostExecute. The problem is that all examples shown are either for Script Component as Destination or Script Component as Transformation. I have tried playing with the Custom Properties in the Script Commponent set the ReadOnlyVariables and ReadWriteVariables, using a PreExecute method, a PostExecute method, all with different errors returning. I'm at a loss here. Could anybody provide me with a simple working example so that I can correctly populate my output buffer in the context of Script Component as Source?
I fully understand that I could just run a Script Task Using System.IO.Directory, and System.IO.File, but I really want to make this package work in the manner I've described. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John T

In a Data Flow, I have the necessity to use a SSIS variable of type €œObject€? inside Script Component and assign to it the content of 'n' variables of string type.
On exiting from the script the variable of type object should contain something like in the following lines:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦.
€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦.
On exiting from the data flow I will use the variable of type Object in a Script Task, by reading each element in a cyclic fashion.
Is there anyone who have experienced something like this? Could anyone provide any example of that?
Thanks in advance!

Hi all
I'm into a project which uses a lot of views for joining 2 or more tables. Using the MERGE component in SSIS will be a huge effort coz it only has 2 inputs and I gotta SORT the input too.
Isnt it possible to have a VIEW like component that joins more than 2 tables and DOESNT need sorting??
(I've thought about creating views in database engine but it breaks my data floe in SSIS and is'nt a practical solution)

2)How to assign outputs to the output columns which will go to two separate OLE DB Destinations?

No idea where this bug crept in from. Have been using SSIS for 1.5 years now without hitting this problem.
I had a script component opening an XML document and parsing it using XPATH. I added some code that uses StreamReader / Streamwriter (closing one stream before starting the other). The code works without issue in my C# app.
And it ran without issue 2-3 times in SSIS. Then suddenly after running my package again, the script component says it completes successfully, yet nothing happens. I set a breakpoint on the first line of code - it never hits it. I add a msgbox as the first line of code - and it never displays.
I then close my package / exit out of ssis ... and then re-open it. When i open my script component, all of my code is GONE. All references that I added are gone.
I tried adding the streamreader/writer process to a dll I created from my c# app ... and added the DLL to the package -- same result.
I can reproduce this on 2 different computers.
Anyone experience this problem ? Any idea how to stop it ? Or debug it ?
Here is a slimmed down code sample of what causes the error :
Public Class ScriptMain
Public Sub Main()
Try
Dim xmlDoc As New XmlDocument
xmlDoc.Load("c:ulkasync_86281519_20070628045850225_4.xml")
MsgBox("xmlLoaded") --this doesn't display once the package starts "acting up"
Catch ex As Exception

End Try
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Sub
Private Sub UpdateXML(ByVal fileName As String, ByVal message As String)
Try
Dim invalidChar As String = message.Trim().Substring(message.Trim().IndexOf("0x"), 4)
Dim rd As StreamReader = New StreamReader(fileName)
Dim xml As String = rd.ReadToEnd()
Xml = Xml.Replace(invalidChar, String.Empty)
xml = xml.Replace("", String.Empty)
xml = xml.Replace("<![CDATA[<![CDATA[", "<![CDATA[")
xml = xml.Replace("]]>]]>", "]]>")
MsgBox("replaced")
rd.Close()
Dim wr As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(fileName)
wr.Write(xml)
wr.Close()
Dim xdoc As XmlDocument = New XmlDocument()
xdoc.Load(fileName)

How do I pass to the HTML Source the label value from the where clause. The value can change from user to user.

Hi All,
I have a question about the datasource that we create on the Report Manager. What is it used for? In the below connection string which is given in the "Connection String" text box of a datasource link:
"Data Source=ProdServer;Initial Catalog=Northwind"
What is this datasource used for? Is it used only to use the ReportServer database or even our queries incorporated in the RDL files will be run against this datasource? I think the latter should not happen because while creating RDL files also, we provide a connection string to run the stored procedures against that datasource.
Please let me know about the same.
Thanks a lot and let me know if the question is not clear.

I have this web store that I have been creating. When a customer goes to check out, he has to log in, then he is redirected to a page where he can view/add/or edit shipping and billing address. I have based all the sql statements on the profile username, adding records and retrieving them works just fine. When I go to change something in the info it uses an sql statement that updates based on "Where AccountUserName = @AccountUserName", I have @AccountUserName set to Profile("Username"). Keep in mind this works fine for adding new or bring up current records. I even put in code in the updated event for the sql data source to post a msgbox telling me how many rows were affected, it says 1 even though I dont see any change in the data. What am I doing wrong here, it's driving me nuts, its just a very simple update.

My god.All I want to do is post the contents of a web form to a database sql express 2005 or access using C#. Why can I find nothing for this very simple process online?Can you tell I am totally frustrated? So lets say i have a few text fields and I want to click submit and have that entered into a table. I am using a SQLDatasource to populate a dataview as illustrated below. I run into a problem when I search for a "LastName" that includes an (') Apostrophe ( e.g. O'Reilly) . Searchin for the whole name there is no problem, but when I search for simply O, or O' I get errors.
I am not sure ...when to address names with an apostrophe...
1) On insertion to the database (using a "Replace(LastName, "'", "''") 2) or after they have been entered and they are to be searched for.
If scenario 1, can anyone provide the best way to do this...If scenario 2, how would that be worked into the SQL Datasource code below....
