We are running Reporting Services 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 Standard 64-Bit server. I have a user that has full access to Reporting Services at all folder levels but IS NOT a local administrator on the 2008 server.
This user can create data source connections but when he tries to test the connection by clicking on the 'Test Connection' button, he gets the following error "The permissions granted to user <username> are insufficient for performing this operation.A user that has administrator priveleges on the server can test the connection fine.
I don't want to make this user an administrator on the server.
This is an extract from the log file:
ibrary!ReportServer_0-24!3478!08/16/2011-13:45:37:: Call to TestConnectForDataSourceDefinitionAction(). library!ReportServer_0-24!3478!08/16/2011-13:45:37:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user <username> are insufficient for performing this operation.;
I have a question about ssrs security. In report manager I have set a list of users as browsers, and the builtin administrators are content manager in the parent folder where reports are. A user that is not an administrator and neither a user I added, has access to reports.
I'm thinking this person is having access because the data source of the reports use a administrator account to connect to the analysis services using the option Credentials stored securely in the report server with the 2 checkboxes marked (use as windows credentials when connecting to the data source and impersonate the authenticated user).
I simply marked this option because SSRS is in 1 server and SSAS in other and I think kerberos need to be configured and I haven't looked into it, but I think the report access is separated from the data source.
I have just downloaded an evaluation version of SQL server from the microsoft website and installed it in my PC.
Now I want to create file data source.
I followed these steps: -From the control panel, ODBC datasource admin -click the DSN tab -click the add button -select the sql server driver, enter the data source file name -enter "local" in the server text box as I installed the sql server in my standalone PC. -click next After that I had this error. "Connection failed. SQL server does not exist or access denied."
But The sql server service is running.
Can anyone help me where did my configuration go wrong?? Thanks...
I can use and access MDS using Excel, but when I try to open the web page, the get an error as Access restricted. MDS has been working fine till now and suddenly this error message appears
I have installed MDS while installing SQL Server 2014 on my local machine ( windows 10). However when I try accessing the home page of Master Data Manager, it is giving access denied error. I am unable to access the Master Data Manager itself. MDS Database and Web Application are using same user account which is Administrator on the system.
My requirement for the parameter is multivalue parameter with a text box. for example when user enters aa15 it need to include product aa15. when the user enters aa15, aa16, zz15 than it needs to include all the three products. the last case is when the user enters AA** than i need to inclued all the products start with AA. when i use default multivalue parameter with data source analytical services than i am getting a drop down box. I dont want that. I need a text box where user can enter the value. 1. In sql we have a like key word to query . for example select * from product where product like "AA%". what is equavalent mdx query to get such results ? 2.How to impliment the multivalue parameters without using dropdown box?
I am receiving the following error when attempting to access reporting services... to sum things up real nice and tidy-
I get three login prompts - then the access denied response. It is almost as if it is unable to authenticate the user... anyway... here's the actual error response, I'd really appreciate any input/insight/resolution.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

I have 4 Tablix and 2 of the Tablix get data from Server 1 and other 2 get the data from Server 2.I have set NoRowsMessage "=Data Not Available for the Selected Values" for all the 4 Tablix. Now if data is not available from Server 1 then I must show "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" only once in the outputbut now its appearing twice in the output because of the 2 tablix that had no rows.Similarly if data not available from Server 2 then it should show "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" only once in my output. If Data not avilable from all the Tablix then also i t should show only once as "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" in the report output.
I want to run SSRS report directly by connecting Excel as a data source. The report runs properly from SSDT, but when it is run from Report manager, some users cannot access the Excel connection and the report execution fails. I am using SSRS 2012 and Excel 2010.I have created the ODBC data connection in SSRS and when I use 'Windows Integrated Security' option for credentials, the connection gets successful. But the problem is that all users does not have permissions to access the Excel inline, but they should get the report working. How can I store the credentials to access the Excel in SSRS with a specific username and password?
I have set up a report on reporting services and deployed it on a server. (server A) The data comes from 2 databases - one on Server A and one on server B
I can view the reports when logged into Server A, but if I try to view them from a networked PC I get the following message:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'byvshs01'.
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Byvshs01 is Server B.
However, if I remove the data from server B from the report, I can view it ok. So it seems you can view data from a DB located on the server that hosts the reports, but not if the DB is located elsewhere.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)...The execution failed for the shared data set 'DataSet1'. (rsDataSet ExecutionError )...Cannot create a connection to data source ' Data source for shared dataset'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)...the above error message I get on the published report, but everything works fine when I do a preview in Visual Studio. How can I see exactely what is wrong?
When Datazen caches a data source, it sometimes says that the data was truncated. What factors are involved in the truncation and what I might be able to do to expand the size of cached elements to avoid truncation? My only current solution is to make the data source "Real Time" rather than cached.
I am building a webapp that calls an SSRS instance to display a report based on another servers web service.I can make a call from the ssrs server using this in the RDL:
This works no problem. but.. I want to have the user parameter "Craig" be a parameter passed in from the web app. If it were a regular SQL data source you would put @user in the query. How do you do it with XML text queries?
I am attempting to pass report parameters to my query. My report's data source is a WCF web service. I can run normal queries fine, but I have found that without the know-how to pass parameters to my query I am limited with my capabilities.
Assume a string parameter named "Name" with a specified default value of "Jmachol90", how would I pass that into the following query at the designated place:
As the title states I have a 64bit DSN but when I try to create ODBC datasource in Reporting Services it does not appear in the dropdown box. I have created as a system DSN.
First off, let me just say that I'm a complete newbie to SQL Reporting Services, and .NET in general. We have a VB 6 application that is trying to launch an SRS 2005 report in a viewer window. This was accomplished by creating A VB.NET "wrapper" window that launches the report, and allows the report to be previewed, exported, etc. I did not write any of this.
The report is using a Shared Data Source, which points to a specific database. My problem is that the users can select which db they want when they launch the VB 6 Application, so I need to find a way to edit the connection string in the report to specify which database to use on the fly. I have the db name in the "wrapper" application, but I can't figure out how to pass it to the report.
I have a SSRS 2012 report which references a custom c# assembly. This report exists in multiple environments (alpha, beta and production ) which are each associated with different data sources.
Is there a way for the assembly to determine the datasource used by the calling report so it can also connect to it?
I have published SSRS reports to sharepoint and used the Reporting Services Report viewer to present the reports on a Page. Everything works fine for the day, however in the morning, when I go to view the page, I get an error message
The report server cannot process the report. The data source connection information has been deleted. (rsInvalidDataSourceReference)

Looks like I need some additional adjustment on the authentication. But I do not know where and how.
I try to change the webservice identity but after changing the user identity of the application pool in iis ( I think this is the only way to change webservice identity) I got the error message service unavailable in IIS. With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.
I tryed to add
Code Snippet<identity impersonate="true" />
to the web config and I get the same Error on the webserver account...
It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
I apologize for not doing the legwork to see if i can answer my own question, but I am close to a loosely planned SQL 2005 migration and don't have time and resources to test my own theories.
Is there a way for a Reporting Services 2000 server to connect to SQL server 2005 databases? I've tried creating a new data source and changing a report to this data source, but it seems like the report is still using the old data source. I'm guessing i might need to register new data providers on the 2000 RS server and then change the existsing data sources.
When i am trying to start our hospital software based on SQL server 2000, it shows Following Error.Search Condition is not valid, (DBNETLIB) Connection Open (connect()). SQL server does not exist or excess denied. Due to Fetch data.I run our software in Windows 8.1, while it smothly runs in previous version of Windows XP and 7.
I have few reports under different folders in Report Manager. Is there a way to set the data source for the whole folder rather than each report individually? There is also a folder where reports generate dynamically. Since the report project doesn't exist anymore, I can't set the data source through code. How can I set the data source for the whole folder?
I cannot connect to the remote SQL Server 2000 running on this machine that has just been upgraded to the W2003 server. Everything worked perfectly before the upgrade on W2000. All the logins, firewall setting stayed the same. Can ping the machine. But when trying to register/link, or connect thru ODBC, I got the error SQL server does not exist or access denied. We don't have SQL server SP3 installed.
