Add Reporting Services To An Existing Cluster

Jan 8, 2007

We have set up SQL Server 2005 failover cluster with 2 nodes, on Windows 2003. I'm now trying to add Reporting Services. I don't see any documentation for how to do this. Is it similar to adding Analysis Services? If I use this command I'm not sure what to put in several paramaters:

start /wait c:<path-to-setup>setup.exe /qn VS=<my-virtual-server-name> INSTALL=RS_Server INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER ADDLOCAL=RS_Server ADDNODE=n GROUP="Cluster Group" IP="111.11.11.11,<my-virtual-server-name" ADMINPASSWORD=xxxx SAPWD=xxxx INSTALLSQLDIR=c INSTALLSQLDATADIR=c RSACCOUNT=mmmxxxxx RSPASSWORD=<domain-user-psswd> SQLBROWSERACCOUNT=<mmmxxxxx> SQLBROWSERPASSWORD=<domain-user-psswd> SQLREPORTING=1

My question are for:

IP: do i just put the virtual ip and name here, or every ip in the node?

INSTALLSQLDIR: is c drive correct here, or what is this?

INSTALLSQLDATADIR: is c drive correct here, or what is this?

RSACCOUNT: is this correct, not in the example in document ms144259 and what should go here?

RSPASSWORD: same as above

SQLBROWSERACCOUNT: what goes here?

SQLBROWSERPASSWORD: same as above

Thanks so much for any help.

Reporting Services :: Columngrouping In Matrix Don't Show Existing Items

Oct 12, 2015

I'm trying to create a report in SSRS using a Matrix.

The data in my dataset looks like this one:

Part      Action   SortID  Count
---------------------------------------------------
Login      LA1      1         12
Login      LA2      2         25
Login      LA3      3         548
Register  RA1      1         12
Register  RA2      2          56

I have one rowgroup by the column Part and one columngroup by SortID and my Data should look like this:

Login          LA1       LA2        LA3
                  12         25         548
Register      RA1       RA2
                  12         56

But it looks like

Login          LA1       LA2        LA3

Register      RA1       RA2       LA3
                  12         56

how I could solve my Problem, that in row number 2 the LA3 isn't shown?

Failover Cluster - Problem With Reporting Services

Jun 3, 2008

Hi,

I've a problem with my failover cluster. It's a two node cluster and if the active node fails, the second one overtake the database and everything is fine. But only the reporting service doesn't start on the second node. The service is off. All other ones are starting correctly. Is there to configure something special to the Reporting Services?

Reporting Services :: Losing History When Existing Report Is Redeployed With New Parameter Addition

May 29, 2015

We are using SSRS 2012. Before we were with 2005. Both the versions have the problem. When a change made to parameters (like adding additional parameter to existing report or changing default value of parameter) using visual studio on developers machine and re-deploy to server, additional parameter or changes to parameter is not showing up. So, we are first deleting the report from server and then re-deploying. This works fine. But we realized that we are losing history of the report (like data related to this report run from execution log). We need the history of report. It is very important to top management to see the details. When I searched in forums, users say that it still exist in 2012 and 2014 and every one talks about deleting and re-deploying report. I would like to know if there is any other alternate route to redeploy additional parameter and not lose history.

SQL Server 2008 :: Installing Reporting Services On Failover Cluster

Jun 16, 2015

if it is supported to install Reporting Services on both the active and passive nodes in an SQL Server Failover Cluster and use the non-active node as a warm standby? We have relatively simple reporting requirements so the idea would be that if Node 1 went down, we could just repoint our users are Node 2 temporarily. Both reporting services instances would be configured to target the same SSRS database running on the SQL Cluster.

HELP! New Virtual Server In Existing Cluster

Mar 6, 2004

I have a 2 part question about adding a new 'named' Virtual Server to an existing Clustered SQL Server 2000 install.

I have a 2 node MSCS Cluster (WIN2K advanced Server sp4) with a default SQL Server instance. This has been in production and working fine. I created a new Cluster resource and reran SQL Server 2000 ENT setup and added a second Virtual SQL Server (named instance). After many problems, finally got the second Server installed. Now I have 2 SQL Server instances in the Cluster - from what I understand, you can have up to 16, each seperate installs with seperate Cluster resources.
Thus the problem:

For the Second Instance, I have specific instructions from the Applications vendor on how to install SQL Server to work with their APP. I need install SQL Server WITHOUT the Full Text Search component and WITH a specific Server Collation (Binary order for use with the 850 Multilingual character set). (I have done this same setup on standalone SQL Server installations for this APP and they have gone smooth).

When I installed the new Virtual 'named' instance in my Cluster, I Could NOT 'DESELECT' Full Text Search when I choose Custom install.. it does not appear as an option???

Also, I chose the "Binary order for use with the 850 Multilingual character set" during the installation, but that is not the Server Collation that is installed...

I have already installed SP3 for SQL Server against the Virtual Server on this Cluster, as well as a HotFix... and Now I'm thinking I need to rerun the SQL Server installation, uninstall the second server and reinstall to see if I can fix the 'Collation problem' .. but I'm not sure if this is the right course of action.

Does anyone know why I cannot 'deselect' Full text search component at install, and any ideas why it did not install with the SQL Server Collation that I specified at install????

Adding Nodes To An Existing Cluster

Mar 13, 2008

Hello,

We currently have a 2 node Active/Passive 2 named instance SQL 2000 cluster. We will be chaning the configuration to Active/Active, basically moving 1 instance to the passive node (so we can take advantage of the resources on the passive node).

We would also like to add 3 nodes to the cluster making it a 5 node SQL cluster. What we are thinking of doing is basically making it an Active/Active/Active/Active with the 5th server being passive. The question I have is will I be able to add and install the 3 new nodes without having to redo the SQL cluster? Should I install the two new active nodes with the default SQL instace or do I have to install SQL with named instances? (actually I think the named instances is the way to go but then I wouldn't be posting here if I was sure about the answer).

Thx!

SQL 2012 :: Setup AlwaysOn On Existing Cluster?

May 19, 2015

We have an existing SQL Server 2012 Enterprise cluster with 2 nodes (active-active) and uses Windows 2008 R2 OS. We are looking for a way to increase HA as well as offload backups to secondary server and it was suggested that AlwayOn could be an option.

The questions I have are:

1) Is it possible to turn on AalwaysOn feature on an existing cluster?

2) If yes to above, does the secondary replica need to exist as a node on the same cluster or can it be on a completely different cluster?

3) If the secondary replica is on the same cluster (i.e. we add a 3rd node to existing 2 node cluster), can that node be provisioned with storage from a completely different SAN? (i.e. Node 1 and Node 2 accesses LUNs on SAN1 and Node 3 accesses LUNs on SAN2).

How To Install SS2005 On New Nodes In Existing Cluster For Multiple Instances ???

Oct 5, 2007

Hi There

I have found no real documentation on this, so any links would be greatly appreciated.

We have an existing 2 node active active cluster.

A default and and named instance SS2005 Enterprise Edition are installed on the cluster.

Recently we acquired new hardware, 2 servers, which we added to the cluster so we now have a 4 node cluster.

The 2 new nodes have OS etc installed.

Now i have installed sql on a new multi node cluster, i have upgraded sql server in an existing cluster BUT i have never installed sql on an existing cluster for new nodes for multiple instances.

Now i presume you simply run the install on one of the new nodes, do this for a default instance, selecting both 2 new nodes to installl on. And do this again for the named instance.

But in the past I have never been promoted for which nodes to install sql on, it simply does all the nodes BUT i do not want this.

And how will the cluster know where the binary files are for each instance on the new nodes?

In a nutshell, how do i install sql server 2005 for 2 new nodes in an existing 4 node cluster for multiple instances ?

Thanx

SQL 2005 Standard To Enterprise Edition Upgrade On Existing Three-node Cluster

Jun 10, 2007

Current set-up: three node cluster running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 with two instances of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2.

Virtual node 1: Standard Edition, default instance, Database Engine only

Virtual node 2: Standard Edition, named instance, Database Engine, Analysis Services and Integration Services

Physical node A: Prefered node for virtual node 1

Physical node B: Failover node for both virtual node 1 and 2 (thus having two installations of Standard Edition)

Physical node C: Prefered node for virtual node 2

We started off with this set-up because there was no need for Enterprise features, and SQL 2005 supports failover clustering with two nodes in Standard Edition. Saved a bundle of cash, so everybody's happy. Now we need to run a solution on virtual node 2 that requires Enterprise features in Analysis and Integration Services, so an edition upgrade is required on virtual node 2. I have done some research and found several edition upgrade examples, but none that match the above scenario. We are running production on these machines, so I can't risk experimenting with command line options, I have to be right the first time.

Is it possible to mix two editions of SQL Server 2005 in one cluster? Can I upgrade virtual node 2 to Enterprise but leave virtual node 1 at Standard? What procedure do I have to follow to upgrade all three components of virtual node 2 to Enterprise Edition on both physical node B and C?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Adding 'unaware' SQL Server 2005 Components To Existing Windows 2003 Cluster

Feb 11, 2008

This is a fresh install of SQL Server 2005 (64bit) on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit OS. The Cluster has been built and SQL 2005 has been installed (Database Engine(clustered), Analysis Server(clustered), Notification Server, Integration Server, Reporting Services). SQL 2005 SP2 has been installed.

Now, I want to install Notification Server, Integration Server and Reporting Services on the second node for high availability.

When I select 'Install New Components' from Add/Remove Programs, the System Configuation Checker tells me theres a version difference and to:

To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.

I'm using the same binaries as the original install. Could this be a result of installing SQL 2005 SP2?

Can someone help me out with this. I'd prefer using the setup interface instead of a command line script.

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)

at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Compatibility Of SQL Express Reporting Services With SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Dec 6, 2006

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.

One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:

Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?

Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

May 12, 2015

We are struggling to add an extra column to a Dtsx package.  The package essentially compiles data into a table and then exports the data to a series of Spreadsheets. So far I have ended up doing the following: -

-Creating a new Folder for the Spreadsheet Templates, copying the existing spreadsheets into the new Folder and then added the new Column.
-Creating new Connection Managers in the Package to connect to these new templates.
-Adding the column to the various data flow tasks so that the new column is converted and then exported (data type is varchar(30), conversion type is Unicode text stream [DTNTEXT]).

Everything validates when we compile the dtx package. However when we run the package we are getting the following error: -

2) how are the integration packages are run, are they run by the integration

3) When fail over happens from one node to other will my packages continue to run??

i had setup Integration Services on a Cluster per the following article: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345193.aspx.... but

when i do fail over or move the group to another node

... getting an error indicating:

The object already exists.
Error ID: 5010 (00001392)
Do you want to ignore this error and continue

I understand that integration service can be clustered only once.....

Should i do the clustering in Integration Services in a different Group

Hoe To Setup Integration Services On A Cluster

Aug 24, 2006

Does anyone know how to install SQL 2005 integration services on a cluster machine?

I have an a-a cluster machine. Both nodes are using SQL 2005 naming instance. During the SQL installation, I did include integration services option as one of my setup items. The setup process was running fine but I can€™t connect to integration services via MS SQL Server management studio. I see below errors:

€œInvalid server name "TESTServerB123". SSIS service does not support multi-instance, use just server name instead of "server nameinstance".

Looks like I must use default instance for 2005 integration services. I re-ran the setup program and added a default instance on the same cluster node. (On that node I have one default instance and one naming instance). Now I can connect to the default SQL Server but when I click on €œstored packages€?, I don€™t see file system and MSDB. It shows nothing at all. Any idea how to make integration services running on a cluster machine?

To Access Reporting Sevices (Report Manager, Reporting Web Services), Does One Has To Be An Admin On The Machine

Mar 12, 2007

Hi There,

Our DBA has installed reporting services on a server and now in order to access the report manager, one has to be an Admin on that Server. I am guessing that there is a mistake in the configuration of Reporting Services. Usually it should allow anybody who was added to the roles in the properties section of the Report Manager, right? I have also added the users to the DB..

Also I am using Windows Authentication to access Report Catalog items (Reporting Services is installed on Server2) from a web Application(deployed on Server1) and displaying the report using report viewer. For some reason, server1 has to be in an Admin role on Server2 to access the report catalog/report. This is kinda strange for me as I don't want everybody to be an Admin on Server2. Can anybody please point in the right direction?

Thanks.
