hi,i run a sqlserver 2000 and im having problems setting a permission acolumn in a table..under a database i have a User that has dataread rights on each tablein the database, but in one table i want to prevent the user fromseeing a column in one perticular table.i have created the user under security and then i choose the databaseuser - properties..and i set a X in the specified column...when i log on as the datareader user i cant see any colummn at all inthe table..what have a done wrong?Steve

We have a user who is set to following permission on a DB,
server role: public
db permission: db_datareader
But when user tries to use following query on xml column he getting error as below,

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am getting an error importing a csv file both using SSIS and SSMS. The csv is comma delimited with quotes for text qualifiers. The file gets partially loaded and then gives me an error stating The column delimiter for column "MyColumn" was not found. In SSIS it gives me the data row which is apparently causing the problem but when I look at the file in a text editor at the specific row identified the file has the comma delimiter and it looks fine. I am using SQL Server 2008.

I just have a question regarding storing values to a column in ms sql 2008.
Why is it that the value I inserted at the column is truncated when selected in a query.
The column for this is created to accept max. values.
-> Message VARCHAR(MAX) NULL
The string which I need to insert is a combination of characters with a length of 14,720.
According to some forums, the max value that a column can hold is 8000 chars. only (Is this true? even though I set it to MAX?)
I have a student table like this studentid, schoolID, previousschoolid, gradelevel.
I would like to load this table every day from student system.

i cannot implement this constraint, it throws the error when i execute the below Alter query,

I have a varchar column in a table, which is an unique key column. Now when I design this table should I use this column as a primary key or should I add one more Integer column as a primary key column for the performance?
One more point is, when ever I do a search on this table I will search based on that unique varchar column values only, so even then if I add new integer column just for Primary key I will not use this column for searching values.
With these information, can some body help me in deciding this?

I am trying to upload a csv file into a destination SQL Server table using Data FLow objects in MS SQL Server 2005 SSIS. My destination table X has a date column while my source data file (for which i have a flat file connection) does not have a date column. I created a Derived column for date using the system date function in my Source data object and ran the package but it returned errors. I changed the data type of the derived column but I still get errors.
is there any other way i can get the date on the fly i.e generate a date for the incoming source file and map that (insert into) to the destination table ?

I have a SQL Server 2005 database that has a table with a TEXT column. This TEXT column has XML data in it. The length of the XML data in each record in the table is about 700,000 characters. What is the quickest most efficient method to replace a nodes text with another value? I.E., <LogoLarge>aasdfasdfaasadfasdfsdfasdfadsf</LogoLarge> with <LogoLarge>a</LogoLarge>. I have created a DB and up until yesterday I have been using SQL commands to add/remove tables, columns, constraints etc. However today when I attempt to modify the datatype of a column using
alter table Person modify Gender nchar(2)
I get this error
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near 'modify'.
I can still add colums but get the same error if I try to drop them and I can amend the tables in any way via the Design view so I don't think it's permission related.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I am trying to use the identity data type ( column)
I am using examples from the book and management studio in sql server 2005.
I am using the identity property for the customer Id in customers table.I accidentatly executed the querry twice and I had two same record with different customer id numbers of 1 and 2 . I realised the problem and I had to delete the second record.
The problem is now even if I have deteted the 2nd record with customer id 2 , when I insert a new record the identity value ( customer Id) increments with a number after the value I deleted. i.e if I deleted a second row with customer id 2 ( identity 2) when I enter a new record it enters with a customer id of 3 and whenever i add a new record it increments from there.
So instead of first record have cust id 1 and second record customer id 2 etc , I get first record with cust id 1 , second record with cust id 3 , third record cust id 4 etc.
How can I get rid of this wrong values of identity values whenever I delete a record and try to add a new record?

I have created a table in sql server 2005 as follows:
table name --> sampletest
1.id -->int ,identity,primary key
2. student_name --> varchar(50),not null
2. active --> bit, default value=1
Using vb.net 2005 , i entered names into sampletest. And when i check the table in the sql server 2005 the names are inserted and the active value is 1.
In another page i added a drop down list which bind all the student_name from sampletest and a delete button.
Now when i select a name and click the delete button that respective item's active column should be changed to 0. if any one who knows how to do this please help me..
