Add New Record - Weird Results

I have written a generic script in asp to add records to a table. The
script works fine with one table but in the other tables it updates
the first record in the table with the values for the new record and
adds a new record with all null values?!? Here is the script:

The even weirder thing is I know that values in aFields and aValues
are OK because this test script I wrote for one of the tables works
just fine:

Weird INSERT INTO SELECT Results

Hi all,

I am having a weird problem occur when trying to insert missing records based on an INSERT INTO...SELECT statement.

Basically, I am populating a temporary table with data, then inserting into a main table those records from the temporary table that aren't in the main table. In addition, I am updating those records that are in the main table.

When I call the following SQL, all of the records from the temporary table are inserted even though those records already exist. Bizzarrely the update statement works perfectly.

Are there some issues with string comparisons going on here?

4. if prefix greater than 0, it should be displayed using '/'.
5. if ip_begin and ip_end are equal, show just one ip.
6. if the two ips are different from each other, they separated by '~'.
7. rate field is packed divided by ','.

SQL Server 2014 :: Duplicate Record Results On 2 One To Many Tables?

I have 3 Tables

TableA - TAID, Name, LastName
TableB - MaleFriendsName, MaleFriendsLastName [One to many]
TableC - FemaleFriendsName, FemaleFriendsLastName [one to many]

A query returns duplicate results from TableB as well as TableC

TableB and TableC have nothing in common and should not interfere with each other.

SQL 2012 :: Limiting Query Results With 3 Criteria For Each Record

I am trying to write a query that gives me the personal records from speed skaters on e.g. the 500 mtrs. I do this with the query:

SELECT cdsDistance AS Distance
, prsFirstName
, prsLastName
, min(crtFinalTime) AS MinTime
FROM tb....... INNER JOIN etc..
GROUP BY cdsDistance, prsFirstName, prsLastName
ORDER BY min(crtFinalTime)

In itself this works fine. However, there are complicating factors. Sometimes a speed skater has multiple PRs, meaning the he/she has the same fastest time more than once.

If these times are achieved on multple days, the 1st date is the official PR. (meaning: "Min of racedate")
If they are raced on the same day the 1st race is the PR (meaning: "Min of distancenumber")

Changing the code to:

SELECT cdsDistance AS Distance
, prsFirstName
, prsLastName
, MIN(crtFinalTime) AS MinTime
, MIN(cdsStartDate) AS RaceDate
, MIN(cdsDistanceNumber) AS DistanceNumber

FROM tb.......
GROUP BY cdsDistance, prsFirstName, prsLastName
ORDER BY min(crtFinalTime)

This gives me the wrong outcome because it gives me the "MIN" of every field, and they are not necessarily on the same row.

An option would be to calculate min(crtFinalTime), if for a person there is more than 1 result, calculate min of date, and then (if there is still more than 1 row) min of distancenumber.

Seems complicated, and I have the feeling there must be a better way (apart from: how to get this code)

Stacking subqueries in the FROM statement seems like a option be costly (time wise). There are more than 10 million rows (and growing) to run through.

As an example a few times:

DistanceFirst nameLast name Time Date Distance nr.
500 Yuya Oikawa 34.49 201311155
500 Yuya Oikawa 34.49 201311153
500 Yuya Oikawa 34.49 201311172

Yuya has 3 best times (34.49), 15-11-2013 is the 1st date, then distance nr 3 is the 1st distance raced. Therefore the 2nd row is the only row I would like to get in my endresult.

I have written a SQL statement.There is a table called customer.It contains all customer data with customerid as PK.There is another table called logs and it contains customerid as foreign key and it contains a field to keep more than 90 days older user accounts.That field name is "Checked"

What I need get all records from these 2 tables and remove/hide more than 90 days older customers from record set.See my illustration.

I have written this code but I dont understand how to remove more than 90 days older user from result (because customer table doesnt contain a record called "Checked")

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Nested Stored Procedure - Multiple Results Of Record Sets Coming

I am calling stored procedure called GetCommonItemCount within another stored procedure called CheckBoxAvailability, the first stored procedure should return a count to second stored procedure and based on that some logic will be executed.

I have 2 problems in that

1. The result is not coming from first stored so the variable called @Cnt is always 0 although it should be 18
2. At the end i need to see in the output the result from second stored procedure only while now i am seeing multiple results of record sets coming.

I have a query that will return one record as its results if you provide two variables: @login and @record_date. This works great if you only want one result. However, now what I want to do is not provide those variables and get the result set back for each login and record_date combination. SQL Server 2008 :: Elegant Way For Returning All Results When Subquery Returns No Results?

I have four tables: Customer (CustomerId INT, CountyId INT), County (CountyId INT), Search(SearchId INT), and SearchCriteria (SearchCriteriaId INT, SearchId INT, CountyId INT, [others not related to this]).

I want to search Customer based off of the Search record, which could have multiple SearchCriteria records. However, if there aren't any SearchCriteria records with CountyId populated for a given Search, I want it to assume to get all Customer records, regardless of CountyId.

Right now, I'm doing it this way.

DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100
SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE
CountyId IN
(
SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId)
THEN SearchCriteria.CountyId

This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a stored proc which is executing successfully...but the results of that stored proc are displaying in the Messages Tab instaed of results Tab. And in the Results Tab the results shows as 0..So, Any clue friends..it is very urgent..I am trying to call this stored proc in my Report in SSRS as well but the stored proc is not displaying there also...Please help me ASAP..

Here Is A Weird One!!

I have a dts package that is mysteriously changing back to a previously saved version. Package is saved, and re-opened with saved changes, then moments later opened again to have been reverted back to an older version. Has anyone ran into this before?
The only thing that I can think of is that if a version of the package is left open on some other machine (as the older version0, it may be auto-saving, and reverting back.

Really Weird One Here...

I run a website, so all of this is done remotely, I do not have access to the servers directly.

On my prior host, everything on the DB worked just fine. Had it optimized and running pretty good for the site by adding indexes, etc.

Then I moved to my new faster server (new host) and at first everything seemed to be just fine. However, some users started complaining about speed in spots.

Sure enough when I checked a given page -- WHAM... the page took about 14 seconds to load. Not exactly fast. :)

So I checked to make sure the indexes copied over and sure enough they did. But it was still slow, even in Query Analyzer/MSE.

So I decided to rerun my view script... on a lark... just to see if that affected something. And sure enough it did. The page started running at 1 second or less. OK, I thought, the view just got corrupted or something.

All was fine until the next night when it happened again. I had added 12 new rows to the table (I do this nightly) and it seemed that adding the new rows slowed down the system. Until the view was rebuilt. With that done again, it's worked fine.

But each night now I have to rerun that view.

What gives??? Is there a DB setting or something causing views/indexes to not be maintained?

The prior server was 2000 or 2003. The new one is 2005.

Again, I cannot get access to the box itself except through Management Studio. The host's tech support group is less than useless, treating everyone as incompetent before they help you.

Any hints or solutions would be a big help!

Weird E+006

I'm trying to CAST an integer to a varchar and I keep getting e+006 in my result set. The reason I need to do this is so that I can combine 2 columns to return a string.

Here is my table:

incomeBracket | lowIncome(int) | highIncome(int)
-----------------------------------------------
1 1000001 5000000
2 5000001 10000000

Here is my query:

SELECT CAST(incomeLow AS varchar) + ' - ' + CAST(incomeHigh AS varchar) AS incomeRange
FROM IncomeBracket_Currency

How can I get my result to look like this:

1000001 - 5000000
5000001 - 10000000

Instead of what it is returning now:

1e+006 - 5e+006
5e+006 - 1e+007

The query works fine for values that have a character length of 6 and less.

Removing Individual Results From A Paged Set Of Results.

Hi,
I have a web form that lets users search for people in my database they wish to contact. The database returns a paged set of results using a CTE, Top X, and Row_number().
I would like to give my users to option of removing individual people from this list but cannot find a way to do this.
I have tried creating a session variable with a comma delimited list of ID's that I pass to my sproc and use in a NOT IN() statement. But I keep getting a "Input string was not in a correct format." Error Message.
Is there any way to do this? I am still new to stored procedures so any advice would be helpful.

PASTE SQL RESULTS INTO EXCEL - Funny Results

Hi, when I copy and paste results from query analyzer into Excel it appears that values with zeroes at the end loose the zeroes. Example, if I copy and paste V128.0 into an Excel cell it comes out as V128 or if I copy 178.70 it displays as 178.7 - any ideas? I'm using SQL Enterprise Manager for 2000.

I was developing a data-driven website but I got this error
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

(I have Sql server 2005 also downloaded before)
Please help me cause any website that has data can not be executed even the quick start tutorial that ships with the ASP.NET 2.0
What should I do?

Weird Concantenation

Hello and thanks for taking a moment to read this message.I have two colums from which I am taking values. One of which(a bit field), i am running a CASE statement against it to get SQL Server to return a string. The other is just a simple varchar column. My SELECT statement for the columns look like this:
SELECT Case tblDisplayProfile.Approved When 0 then 'Not Approved' when 1 then 'Approved' else 'Not looked at' END AS Approved, tblDisplayProfile.DisplayProfileDesc
These statements do return me something. Now what I want to do is combine (concantenate) the two fields. This is where I have problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Weird Ado.net 2.0 Error

Why does ado.net produce this error when I kow for a fact that there are no connections to any sql server 2005 database involved - this could and probbaly has had people off looking at the wrong connection strings in their web.configs.
Note:- The connection string we have is to a sql 200 db I just wanted to make that clear.

Weird Problem

Hi, I moved a SQL 2000 DB to a SQL 2005 server. When I run my .NET 1.1 or 3.5 website to call a stored procedure it returns the wrong results.The SQL stored proc runs fine when I excute it within SQL Manager but gives a different result when called via .NET The funny thing is I have 3 SQL servers 2000 , 2005 , and another 2005. The same data on each of the databases and the same website. Two of the databases work but the second 2005 database my production server decrements the dates some how. The funny thing is the stroed proc is not returning dates as such but a varchar of the name of the day that's getting decremented. My stored proc is SELECT

Case datepart(dw, DT_DATE)
When 2 Then 'Mon'
When 3 Then 'Tue'
When 4 Then 'Wed'
When 5 Then 'Thu'

Weird Error

i have a form which takes in a lot of input...one of them is a date field..am passing all the values to the stored proc and inserting into a table from there...pretty simple...however when the user does not enter any value in the field...its errors out as...

String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

heres the code in asp.net

myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@cusbday",SqlDbType.datetime))
myCommand.Parameters("@cusbday").Value = trim(bday.text)

the field is optional....in my stored proc i am setting a default value too

....@cusbday Datetime =NULL,...

i also xplicitly set it to null through code
if @cusbday is null set @cusbday=null

how else do i resolve this...

Then under Task I don't have any choices.

WEIRD ERROR

I was running a DTS package which transfer a complete database, about 2.3GB in size, to another database on the same server. It was necessary for environment change from dev to QA. I baby sat the package till it was rebuilding indexes (90%) complete. This morning I have the following error message on my screen,

Really Weird SQL Failure

Last night our production server went crazy. The primary (production) database MDF file had size 15Gb and then for some reason the size became 0 (zero) K, So the SQL right away reported the error:

I/O error 38(Reached end of file.) detected during read of page buffer..

Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 10

And the database became "suspected".
Now we restoring it, but have anybody seen such a thing before? I'm breaking my head to figure out what could cause this problem!!!!!

Weird Behaviour On Net Use

When I run the command:
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'NET USE'
from the analyzer the box responds there are no entries in the list.

After that, I run the command:
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'NET USE Z: /DELETE'
after which the box responds with a "network connection could not be found."
and that's all okay.

The weird thing is:
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'NET USE Z: \MACHINESHARENAME'
results in a "The local device name is already in use.".

The machine in this particular case is the box itself. I have no problem accessing other disks on other systems. I can see the share using the view command. There's no maximum on the share itself and I can connect to the share using another sql box with the same user.

I don't know why it won't budge, worked before like a charm. After six months or so it just stopped. Anyone seen/solved this behaviour?

Weird DateTime Value

I have a datetime field with a value of '-28049-03-16 10:01:16.267' in SQl Server 2000. I haven't a clue how or why this value was entered as I did not design or write the database. However, I do have the task of writing a DTS package to export the data to Access. The problem is that the DTS fails when it tries to export the record with the above value into an Access table with a Date/Time field. I thought I could get round this by using a UDF to say if the date equals this value then make it null:

RETURNS DateTime

As
BEGIN
DECLARE @CheckDate varChar(300)
SET @CheckDate = CONVERT(varChar(300),@Date)

IF (@CheckDate = '-28049-03-16 10:01:16.267')
BEGIN
SET @Date = Null

However when I use the UDF it gives me the following error:

Server: Msg 542, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UDFn_CheckDate, Line 23
An invalid datetime value was encountered. Value exceeds the year 9999.

I have tried many variations of Convert, Cast etc. but still can't get it to work.

Anybody got any ideas???

Weird SP Problem

Hello,

I'm now converting my queries from Access db to SQL Server db and I'm new with SP only.

I have a big query that is building from 1 or 2 sub-queries with "TOP x" (x is a variable in ASP).
SP can't be used with an outside variable for "SELECT TOP x.." so I tried to send the sub-query as a variable to the SP
but it refer it as a string and not a code so I can't run this sub-query in the SP.

Example:

CREATE PROCEDURE usp_test

@subSQL varchar(200)

AS

SELECT id FROM tbl WHERE id IN (@subSQL) ORDER BY id DESC

GO

----------------

exec usp_test 'SELECT TOP 15 id FROM tbl2'

What's wrong here? Am I working in a wrong method? :(
