Adventureworks Db And Dw Not Showing Up In Management Studio Database List
Jul 23, 2007
I've installed both the AW db and dw off the MS download. I see the db in the directory I use for other databases, the dw doesnt seem to want to go where I tell it. Anyway, when I connect to my instance of sql (developer's) I dont see the AW db.
When I install AdventureWorks.db for SQL Express, it runs without errors. The database files (data and logs) are in the SQL Express 2005 data directory. However, I can not see the database in Managment Studio Express CTP. I've tried repairing and uninstall/install again. Does not help.
I have SQL Express 2005 cleanly installed. I have the pubs and Northwinds databases cleanly installed. (I was able to execute the queries that came for installing these). I can see both pubs and Northwinds in Management Studio Express CTP.
I just downloaded AdventureWorks_Data.mdf, AdventureWorks_Data.ldf, AdventureWorksDW_Data.mdf, and AdventureWorksDW_Data.LDF files to the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1|MSSQLData folder of my Windows XP Pro PC. I tried to attach the AdventureWorks database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express in the following way: I clicked on SQL Server 2005 Express=>SQL Server Management Studio Express=>Right clicked on Databases=> clicked on "Attach..."=> "Attach Databese" showed up. But I can not type in anything under the MDF File Location, Database Name, Attach As, Owner, Status, Message!!!??? What is wrong in my way of doing the attachment of AdventureWorks database (described above)? Please help and advise.
Thanks,
Scott Chang
P. S. I do not have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. Walkthrough: Install the AdventureWorks Database (http://msdn2.microsoft/en-us/library/ms31035.aspx) : To confirm your SQL Server data directory (Start=>All Programs, Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio Tools, Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt) steps 1 thru 4 can not be applied to my SQL Server Management Studio Express. I read an SQL Express post dated 19 April 2006 and learned the above-mentioned way to attach the AdventureWorks database in the SQL Server Management Studio Express. But that way does not work for me.
Hi all, One year ago, I did "Ruuning Setup to Install AdventureWorks Sample Databases and Sample" to install "AdventureWorks" in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. Now, It just have the name "AdventureWorks" on and no contents (no tables, schemas, etc.) in it. In my Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, AdventureWorksDB (162.00 MB) is still there and AdventureWorks (Windows Installer Package [27,992 KB]) is in my C:/drive.
(1) Should I delete the name "AdventureWorks" in my SQL Server Management Studio Express, and remove AdventureWorksDB (162.00 MB) from the Add or Remove Program, before I re-install AdventureWorks, AdventureWorksDW, and Adventure Works DW sample databases and samples from Windows Installer Package [27,992 KB]? Is my old AdventureWorks (Windows Installer Package [27,992 KB]) still good and complete for installation? (2) SQL Server 2005 Books Online (September 2007) presents "Reinstalling Sample Databases from Script". But (i) I can not find the file instawdb.sql for reinstalling AdventureWorks from script and I do not have AdventureWorks OLTP in my C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsSamples folder, (ii) I can not find the file instawdwdb.sql for reinstalling AdventureWorksDW from script and I do not have AdventureWorks Data Warehouse in my C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsSamples folder either!!?? Please help and tell me what is the best way and some detailed instructions/tips to have AdvenureWorks, AdventureWorksDW, and Adventure Works DW sample databases and samples installed in my SQL Server Management Studio Express.
backup database PPLicense to disk = 'D:License.bak'
I have run this 5 times. If I know run this command:
restore headeronly from disk = 'D:License.bak'
I can see 5 entries returned this all looks good. In SQL Management studio I try and restore this database by selecting the file. The Restore Database dialog only shows the last backup set position i.e. position 5 and now the 4 before it. Why is this not showing the 4 previous backups?
I am using SQL Server 2012 SP 2 (Version 11.0.3460).
I can see a database file in the Data folder which is used by the "sqlservr.exe" process (detected this using Process Explorer) but I cannot a see a database in the list in SQL Server Management Studio.I am sysadmin on the server (also tried with the "sa" account).tried running "USING" statement with no luck.Is there a system view which tells the relationgship between data files and databases?
In SSMS, I connect Object Explorer to a partially contained database using a contained user login with password. This user has a database role of dbdatareader. When I try to expand the Tables in the database, I get the error:Â
The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'extended_properties', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Is there a way to set permissions for the contained user so that this could be done?
i'm trying to create my first stored procedure. i believe i've done everything correctly, the file shows up in the projects directory with the .sql extension, but the proc doesnt appear in object explorer under my database name/programmability/stored procedures. when i execute the query, i get "Could not find stored procedure 'IsEmployeeInTable'.". i'm running on my laptop using asp.net development server. thanks. matt
I am using SQL Server Express 2008 Management Studio & in the databases list are some databases that are non existent (have been deleted in Windows Explorer). How do I remove them as trying to delete when logging in using Windows authentication fails?
We have a 64-bit VM server running SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server on this particular VM server has 6 local instances installed. On the Management Studio logon screen I can type the full name of the local instance and connect to it, however if I press the drop down in the Server name field, choose Browse and select the Local Servers tab there is nothing listed under Database Engines.
Any idea why the 6 local instances don't show up under Database Engines? This is preventing me from installing a vendor application because their installer looks for local SQL Server instances on this server, but if SQL Server won't even show the local instances then the installer doesn't see them either.
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I have created a database under management studio and i want it to be connected in visual studio but it failed the error msgs said that the database can't be connected coz the database with same name exits but that is not true
How do i get the database that i am using in visual studio into my SQL server management studio? i need to create some scripts to create stored procedures on a live server.
When using Sql Server Enterprise Manager and viewing a Database / Tables section, most of the tables if not all have a create date of 11/5/2004.Except for one, DNN_Users, has a creation date of 7/10/2007What factor could have caused that create date to have changed? What factors go into the date being set on that column in the database design? Does the date get updated say if I were go go in and change a datatype in a table?
Hello, How do I clear the Recently Used Server list in SQL Server Management Studio? I am talking about the "Server Name" field that is part of the "Connect To Server" drop down when you initially open SQL Server Management Studio. Thanks.
I guess it's possible to do that, because in SQL Server Management Studio, all things(such as Tables,Triggers, Indexes, Constraints, Keys) are displayed in the TreeView.
But I am quite don't understand how to do that with T-SQL.
i use VSC 2013 (C#, .net4.5, ADO) and i installed SQL Express 2014 on a PC Under W8.1pro. I succeeded to create and access a database with my application. My database is created with a code like:
using ( var connection = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection( "Data Source=(local); Integrated Security=true;User Instance=True;" ) ) { connection.Open(); using ( var command = connection.CreateCommand() ) { command.CommandText = String.Format( "CREATE DATABASE {0} ON PRIMARY (NAME={0}, FILENAME='{1}')", dataBaseName, dbFileName ); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); command.CommandText = String.Format( "EXEC sp_detach_db '{0}', 'true'", dataBaseName ); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } }
My problem is to manage this database with "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio"; i fact, i never succeeded to see my database in this tool. The .mdf file of my databae is located in a directory "C:UsersmyuseraccountDocumentsSQLServerExpDBs".
I tried to join my mdf file, but MSqlSMS refuse to display the content of all my user account directories.how to manage such DB in MSqlSMS?
All, I copy my reallistdb.mdf file to this MS SQL SERVER directory .Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData eallistdb.mdf. When I open my ms sql management studio, I don't see my realistdb.mdf under object exploer. Could anyone help? Thanks
I use visual studio express 2005, and just downloaded Management Studio Express. (I have SQL Express). I've already created my projects and created database tables and everything but I do not know how to connect an existing database to management studio. Can someone tell me how to connect an existing database to management studio? Thanks, Computergirl
I currently can't connecto to my database in SQL Server 2005 (enterprise) but as soon as I try to use any functions, I get cryptic errors found below. I am about to pull my hair out. Everything was working fine for around 4 days and now everything just blows up. I've tried using both sql authentification and also windows:

I just installed Management Studio 2016 CP1. Unfortunately, the Database Diagrams branch does not show-up when I expand the individual databases in Object Explorer. Interestingly, they show-up in Management Studio 2008
I created a database in SQL Server Management Studio Express. I since detached the database and consequently now I get the below error message when trying to attach it.
Anyone have any ideas? The database is preety much brand new and very small. I can open the database with Visual Studio.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi,im a student who desperately need to use dql management studio at home for my project. But after installing all that is needed,i am receiveing an error 916 when i try to attach a database. It says," an excpetion while executing a transact statement or batch.(microsoft.sqlserver.express.connectioninfo)blah blah blah is not able to access the database model under the current security context.Microsoft Sql server error 916.As for creating a new database,it says,"create database ddenied in database master>Error 262)".pls help me T.T
I recently installed the express edition of sql server express, I installed with all the default options and choose windows authorisation for login. I have tried to attach a database in studio mangement and it threw an exception about security and connection error, I presume I have no priviledges, but I have tried to grant myself rights and basically tried everything but I cant seem to get anywhere with it, would apprechiate some advise on this subject, and what steps I should take to setup and use and have complete rights to the database thanks in advance
Hi All, I am new to SQL Server and having trouble using SQL Server Management Studio. I am unable to select the Database Engine in management studio. I am able to see the instance of default database engine (MSSQLServer) running in Reporting Services manager as well as in Surface area configuration manager, but it is not visible in the drop down list in Management Studio's "Select Database Engine" menu. I had removed Sql server 2005 earlier ( I was able to select the database engine in Management Studio then). But when I installed it again, I was unable to install the Sql Server Tools (it said that my Upgrade is blocked). So, I cleaned the Windows Registry of all keys containing 'Sql'. After this I tried installing it again and successfully installed Sql Server 2005 + ALL TOOLS. But this time I am unable to select the database engine in management studio. Thanks and Regards to ALL
Hi All ... I am not facing a problem while connecting to sql server 2005 databse, when i attach that first, in management studio, then I can access that from localhost, its fine at this point. but when i detach that database from management studio i am facing the follwing error while accessing it from localhost i.e. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Unable to open the physical file "D:databaseHunzian.mdf".
