the os was restored my me
after restoration i had a problem
the database is running but em and query analyzer is not running
and the server manager is not running also
should i reinstall the ms-sql server all over
or is there other way to correct this problem ?

Hi. I'm new to SQL server. I have here SQL server 2000 and i'm trying to install it on my computer that has the operating system window xp. I'm getting a message saying that the server can't be installed on this operating system. Is there something I am doing wrong? How could i install sql server 2000 on window xp?

I have problem in configuring my web project on Window server 2000. I have created the web application using Visual Studio 2005 tools. I have configured Window server 2000 with the .Net Framework Version 2.0. I can access the page which doesn't have database access.
The connection string in the web config file is giving me the problem that connection string can't be found. Does any one have any idea?
My database connection string looks like this.

In MSDN, it says that it is recommended to use windows authentication to connect to SQL Server rather than use mixed authentication.
I create user deltasqluser on windows OS, and I specify in my webform ASP.NET script below :

When I start the server agent - it opens up a black (command prompt type) window that seems to serve no purpose - that I know of yet.
What is this and can I stop it opening up all the time?

I have an desktop app that uses a system DSN to access SQL Server 7. I backed up a database from another machine and restored it on my machine. Now when my app starts, it prompts for login/pw for SQL Server. I have checked my ODBC connection, and the login and pw are correct. I have also used Enterprise Mgr to check it in SQL Server. Does anyone have any thoughts on why it is now popping up? Drop me a line at bcarlson@documentsolutions.com, and I can answer any questions. I was wondering if any info about the prev machine exists for the database (on the restore)?

It happened to my sql server 5 times in three weeks. The window just froze and no response to any thing for my sql server. I need reboot server everytime to bring the server back. No any error log in SQl or window, Does any one can help on this one?

Default it is 2007-11-15. As some tables are changed more than one time in a day, I would like to see also the time as was the standard in SQL SERVER 2000.

I installed the SQL Server 2005 standard edition after uninstalling the Express edition.
When i look in the 'About' screen in the 'SQL Server Managment studio', i don't see indication that the SQL Server 2005 i currently work with is the Standard Edition. There are only categories and their numbers of versions.
How do i know that the Edition i work on ,now , is the Standard edition ?

i am restoring newdatabase(test) with the backup from other server.

I have just received a database backup: "myDB_20005034400.bak" and have been
asked to put a copy on my server. I am told that this was made from the Enterprise Manager's DB Maintenance Utility. The backup Administrator has left the company with the server in a crashed condition.
How can I find out what "myDB_20005034400.bak" pertains to? (No msdb, etc. available). I am RESTORING TO A NEW SERVER.
MAIN: HOW DO I RESTORE THIS FILE TO A NEW DATABASE; ie TestDB (TestDB.mdf;

when i am trying to restore MSDB database from a disk backup it is giving an error saying
"Database in use.System administrator must have exclusive use of the databse to run the restore operation".
But i am not using msdb anywhere.when i see the processes under current activities i see an application named sqlagent-alert engine using the database.even after killing this process it reppaears and stops the restore operation.
so i stopped sql server agent and did the restore operation.It worked.
so is it necessary to stop sql server agent while restoring msdb?may i know the logical reason for it?

Failed to uncompressing data block. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. Read on "VDI_2A04E518-0B70-41F8-BA22-48A63F9AC65C_0" failed: 1223(The operation was canceled by the user.) [SQLSTATE HY000] (Error 52008). The step failed.

I operate a website which runs on Server 2003 and SQL 2005 Express. Unfortunately my server experienced a hard drive failure, however fortunately I have a full backup using 2003's NT Backup.
My new server is slightly different specification wise to my last server - but my question is, what are my options for restoring the database and how would I go about this? I do administor 2003 servers, but I'm not a database administrator.
My initial thoughts are to update Windows and its components (such as IE) and SQL 2005 to the same equivalent versions, and to perform a full restore, but what if it breaks Windows?
My second thought is to somehow extract the database from my backup file, but then I wouldn't know where to start how to re-import everything.

Full backup: everyday :00:30 hrs
Differential backup: everyday 20:00 hrs
Transction log backup: every 30 mins
Database size is 150+ GB
Lastday one of our disk got crashed which had contains data and log file of the database at 22:25. Now my client wants all of the data till 22:25.
I can recover data till 22:00 but how can I recover last 25 minutes data.
Please help ASAP
I am working on a site redesign which attaches to an MS SQL backend. The hosting company sent me a backup copy of the DB. I am trying to restore the db into my SQL Server but keep getting an error. I created an empty DB and then backed up that DB. I then replaced the .bak from my db with the .bak file he sent to me in a zip document. I then tried to do a DB restore through enterprise manager and recieved this error:

I have a question regarding windowing functions. I have a sales order table with the columns "orderid", "customerid", "order_date" and "amount". I use the following query to get the amount of every customer as a additional column:

I have installed 2 node windows Fail-over clusters successfully. But QUARUM Configuration is not appearing in Failover cluster manager instead "Witness: Disk (Disk Cluster 4)". I have also configured quarum configuration from Quarum "Configure Cluster QUARUM Settings". I have attached the snapshots of windows cluster configuration. Is it the issue or not. I have not got any warning and error during cluster validation while installing Windows failover cluster. I am assuming it is okay and i can move ahead to installation of SQL Failover cluster setup.
