Allow Blank Value Does Not Effect When Parameter Is Multi Value = Bug!

Jan 3, 2008

I build reports using reporting services 2005 sp2.
I have 3 parameters---> 3 multi value combo box .
However when I tick "allow blank value" within the report parameter
properties for this drop menu, report WILL NOT run without making
selection.(The xml is ok allow blank value set to true)
the reports still require you to enter a value for all parameters in the report when the report can and should be able to be run with no parameter defined.
the trick "default values for all of the params to "=String.Empty"" is not good .

I found this article but i can't find microsoft hotfix for it .

"Thank you for filing the bug. This issue has been fixed for the next CTP.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Reporting Services :: Hide Blank Row With Multi-value Parameter

Jul 20, 2015

I have a Multivalue parameter with 4 available values and have 4 columns in the report that correspond to each of these values.I apply column visibility to each of the 4 columns with the following expression (the number changes for each column

=IIF(InStr("," & Join(Parameters!KPINAME.Value,",")& ",",",1,")>0),False,True)

What I want to do is that if I select a KPI and the Column value is NULL then to hide the row.Obviously if you select multiple KPIs and only 1 of the columns has null value then I wouldn't want the Row hidden.

Why The Report Parameter Dose Not Take Effect?

Nov 6, 2006

Hi, all experts here,

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

I am encountering a problem with reports built on my SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Server. The reports parameters do not take effect at all? I chose the value from the report parameter list, but the result returned the whole report data. Why is that? And how can I solve this problem? Really need help.

Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance and help.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Blank Multi-value Parameters

Jul 19, 2007

Hi,

Lets say I have two multi-value parameters on a report. One is required, the other is not. The multi-value parameter that is not required is allowed to be blank. In the WHERE clause of my query I wanted to do this:

Code Snippet AND
EXISTS
(SELECT * FROM SomeTable AS ST_1
WHERE (MyCode IN (@My_Codes2)) OR @My_Codes2 IS NULL)

Of course I can't do that since multi-value parameters are not allowed to be null. I see that they are allowed to be blank, but how do I check for that? I tried

Code Snippet

OR @My_Codes2=''

That doesn't work. I can set a default value of 'None' and say:

Code Snippet

OR @My_Codes2='None'

Unfortunately this doesn't work. As long as the default value is 'None' it's fine. When I fill in the parameter I get the following error:

An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ','.

Please note that I am not using a TSQL stored procedure here. It's just a plain old embedded SQL statement.

Thanks,

DD

SSIS: Multi-Record File Using Merge - Getting Blank Lines

Mar 27, 2008

I have used the following useful article regarding exporting a multi-record file:
http://vsteamsystemcentral.com/cs21/blogs/steve_fibich/archive/2007/09/25/multi-record-formated-flat-file-with-ssis.aspx

I have created the 9 datasources, ordering each on a field commmon to all.

I have created the required derived columns headers and have merged all the record types into a file.

The resulting file looks fine, except for the odd blank line between record types. Any ideas regarding cause and what to do to fix?

Any help is most appreciated!

Reporting Services :: Multi-value Parameter Not Passing In Subreport Parameter List

Jul 29, 2015

I have two report , first is main report which is matrix and have one parameter User_ids which is multi value selection and my second report is basic chart of user_wise performance.

Now, my main report (matrix ) works fine for Multiple selection of users and i have putted one textbox on main report chart which has action properties set for chart report, when user click on chart button it must goes to chart with user selected in main report. Now , i have used expression for parameter to send it like ..

=join(parameter!user_id!value,",") which pass selected value to chart

And when I am selecting single user it passing that value to chart parameter list but , when it is more than one user it errors with conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '121,128' to data type int. But my chart also works when passing 121,128 in user parameter in preview of report .

SSRS Toggle Parameter Between Multi-Value And Single Value Based On Another Parameter

Feb 4, 2008

I would like to be able to adjust the multi-value property of a parameter based on the value of another parameter in my report. The controlling paramter would be binary with two options for Single or Multiple selection. I would like my parameter to default to multi-value, which I can do on the screen selection. I have tried to add an IIF statement to the XML code, with no success. Any ideas would be helpful.

Allows Blank Value For Integer Parameter

Jul 3, 2007

Hi have a problem to solve and I hope that this is not a SSRS Bug.

I created a Reports(using SQL Server Project) which has several parameters which values are passed to a SP.

One of these parameter is an Integer and it is an optional value, so if the user fill it is used by the SP, otherwise the SP uses NULL and run anyway.

I starts to define tha parameter:

Datatype = integer

Allow blank value

Available: Non queried

Default: Null

if I want to Preview the report I have to provide an integer to the parameter's field ...

If for instance I set:

Default: Not queried = 0

In the moment I deploy and I use the ReportViewer in my window application the parameter's field is unabled!!

So I tried this solution:

Datatype = integer

Allow blank value

Allow null value

Available: Non queried

Default: Null

In the preview the checkbox: NULL is checked and I click on the View Report.

But when I deploy it,in the ReportViewer in my window application the parameter's field this checkbox is unchecked.

Do I forget something during my setting??I have to control it programmatically??

N.B. By default the user will not user this parameter so the best is that he can click directly on "View Report" without any additional "work" on the parameter!!

Thank you for any help!

Is There A Way To Default DateTime Parameter To Blank?

Jul 13, 2007

I have a visible DateTime parameter on the Report that I would like to make optional.

When I open up the report and try to run it without specifying the date I get a validation error that parameter is required. If I set default value to null - it works, but I have to check for both '' and NULL in my query:

StartDateTime >= @StartDate OR @StartDate='' OR @StartDate IS NULL

I tried setting default parameter using expression
=''
but I get an error that
'Default Value' of parameter 'StartDate' doesn't have expected time.

So the question is can I set DateTime parameters' default value to blank?

Reporting Services :: How To Pass A Blank Parameter

Nov 24, 2015

I have 5 Parameters created in my report.

1, 2 and 3 parameter are text inputs. 4th is multi-value parameter and 5th is again a text input. I need to Pass a blank parameter to my 5th parameter.

1) I tried the below Expression in the "UploadedEnt" DataSet Properties and not in the "Main" DataSet.

=IIF(Parameters!UploadedEntiParam.Value ="",Nothing,Parameters!UploadedEntParam.Value)

I have taken the actual sql query (file) and I have just placed the select statement.

DataSet Name: UploadedEntselect distinct UploadEnt
from
(
SELECT DISTINCT col1, col2...
....) Ent

Order by 1OR logic has been applied in the Tablix Properties Filters as an expression.=Fields!value1.Value like Parameters!value1Param.Value Or Fields!value2.Value like Parameters!value2Param.Value Or Fields!value3.Value like Parameters!value3Param.Value Or Fields!value4.Value = Parameters!value4Param.Value(0) Or Fields!UploadEnt.Value = Parameters!UploadedEntParam.ValueFilter: Expression = TRUE2) I tried applying NULL check box which works perfectly but I do not want to apply that here. How to Pass a Blank Parameter?

Reporting Services :: How To Get A Blank Parameter To Work

Jun 3, 2015

Have a report that has this as the query:

SELECT SOURCE, TRANSDATE, LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, MOACTIVETIMESTAMP, MOINACTIVETIMESTAMP
FROM CTS_Missing_Data_Report_VW
WHERE LOCATION = @Location AND SOURCE = @Source AND (TRANSDATE BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate)
ORDER BY Transdate desc, Location

So the user can enter a value for Location and Source and select the date range.BUT I also want the user to be able to put in nothing for the Location and Source so the query would return everything for that date range.

So if they did this the query would be

SELECT SOURCE, TRANSDATE, LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, MOACTIVETIMESTAMP, MOINACTIVETIMESTAMP
FROM CTS_Missing_Data_Report_VW
WHERE (TRANSDATE BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate)
ORDER BY Transdate desc, Location

I have set the parameters @Location and @Source to "Allow blank value" in the datasets for the location and source I have :

SELECT NULL AS Source
UNION
SELECT DISTINCT RTRIM(LTRIM(SOURCE))AS Source
FROM CTS_OPS_SOURCE_LOCATION_TBL_VW
ORDER BY SOURCE

So a blank will show on the drop down and when I run the query for the Query Designer in the Dataset Properties the results does show  a blank record for the first record.BUT when I Run the report there are no blanks in the drop downs for the location or source. And there is no '<blank>' selection in the drop down either. And the drop down insist the user selects a value from both of the drop downs.

What am I doing wrong?

Multi-value Parameter Calculation

Jun 23, 2007

OK Guys....

If you answer this one, you will save my life...and you WILL be the MAN or WOMAN!!!!

Problem: I have a set of 24 matrix's that need to calculate the difference between the last two years and display in a field to the right of the last rendered column. Since I have been struggling with this, let's just assume there is no better way than how I currently have it set up. (one table that does the calculations for me and I set one field on the report to display the most recent two columns difference in my report)

what I can not figure out is: when I choose one of my parameters the report displays the information I want...but when I choose more than one...well there is the problem....

In order to obtain the most help for myself I will ask this in the most general way possible so as not to get bogged down into my specific solution...

Desired Result: How to pass all my parameter values from my multi-value parameter during runtime to a SQL Stored proc from my dataset within Reporting Services at runtime, Match the parameter to the field, get the result and store it in a variable, then do it again and add the second to the first within the variable, and so on and so on , until all of the parameters are used. Then sum the values and display in a field.

HELP, HELP, HELP Please....

Empty Multi-value Parameter

Apr 24, 2007

Several people have asked about this, but I have not seen a response that works. I have several parameters that I want to use as filters. If a particular filter parameter is not entered, the report should not apply a filter on that criterion. It works fine to create a single value parameter which allows null, and use the following in SQL:

WHERE ( [Field1] = @Field1_Filter OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )

How can the same effect be achieved for a multi-value parameter? If you try to create a multi-value parameter which allows null, the report builder gives an error. I can't use "allow blank value" because some of my parameters are integer parameters. Without the allow null, the report generator requires me to enter at least one value. So I don't know how you can get a value of "not entered" into a multi-value parameter.

I also don't know how you would check for the "not entered". Someone suggested the following SQL:

WHERE ( [Field1] IN (@Field1_Filter) OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )

This generates an error when generating the report if multiple values are entered for the parameter (the normal condition). The error is " An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ',' ".

How is this supposed to be done?

Thanks for any insight

Multi Value Report Parameter

Feb 1, 2007

HI there.

I have been working on this for quite some time and I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
I have a report filter called ItemFilter and I have declared as a report parameter where the multi value checkbox is checked. The values from this filter are coming from the item table.
SO the users drilldown on the filter when they run the report an select the Items that they would like to display info for. I had the following code before in the where

where
([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ = @itemfilter). This only worked if they selected on item from the list.

I want them to be able to select multiple Items or all. The code above did not work because there were commas separating one item from the other and I was getting an error.

I changed to

whrere

([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ IN (@itemfilter)).

Now this only returns the first item that I enter on my Itemfilter parameter.

Does anyone have any clue in regards to this ?? I am sure I am using the wrong syntax, but I do not know what to change it too.

Thanks

Multi-Value Parameter Width

I've designed a Reporting Services report that has a multi-value parameter. The report works just great. The only issue I'm running into is that the users are complaining that when they want to select the values, within the multi-value parameter box, they have to scroll it to the sides way too much. This also makes them select values by mistake.

Is there away to inscrease the width of the multi-value parameter box?

Multi-Value Parameter And FireFox

Jul 6, 2007

I am experiencing a problem with the multi-value parameter dropdown in the ReportViewer when using FireFox, but in IE it seems to work fine. The symptom is when I click on the dropdown the list of options appears and then quickly disappears before I can select anything and I only experience the problem with multi-value parameters. I also have noticed that the dropdown is grayed out but I can still click it. Also, the position of the dropdown options are different in FireFox (pushed all the way to the left). I have created a very basic example at https://www.register4this.com/testreport.aspx to demonstrate the problem. There is no report, only the single "Orgs" parameter to keep things as simple as possible.

Pass Multi Value As Parameter

Jun 1, 2007

Hi All,

Is it possible to pass a multi value parameter from one report to another using the "jump to report" feature?

ie;

I have report A that has a mutli value parameter (para1). This report has a link with the action property set to jump to another report(Report B). Report B requires the same multivalue parameter. I have tries setting the parameter in the interface as well as trying the join function. Nothing seems to pass the values correctly.

regards
