Is there any way I can dynamically alter the structure of a table? In other words if my Transact SQL
statement returns 5 rows I want to alter an existing table and put in 5 columns. Strange?!
Something like
alter table add
column+@i
The alter table statement is within a Cursor and ideally @i should increment each time and alter
the table to put in a new column.
If I went 3 times thru the loop, I should have
column1
column2
column3
added to the new table.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance.
Altering A Connection Manager Dynamically Via A Variable
Mar 29, 2006Within an SSIS Package, we are trying to change the connection string of an output file connection manager at runtime (used for package logging).
To do this, we have defined variables with package-level scope and set the connection manager connection string to this variable. The first step of the package is to set these variables. The second step begins the rest of the package operations (moving data). The package executes successfully, but the log file is never created/appended to.
When the package is debugged, I can verify that the variables are being set correctly in the script task and that the variable values are being passed to the connection manager data sources.
Any ideas why this isn€™t working?

I'm wondering if an idea I'm playing with is feasible and if so, how you would recommend implementing it.
Let's say I have a Dictionary table, 2 columns:
Word | Definition
And I have a string - "The cat sat on the dog"
If there's a definition for "cat" in the dictionary table, I want to alter the string so it becomes "The >>cat<< sat on the dog"
At the same time, if there's also a definition for "dog" then my string now becomes "The >>Cat<< sat on the >>Dog<<"
The idea being that when I manipulate the data in my ASP I can replace() the >><< with specific HTML code. (I'm trying to recreate the "in text" advertising thing that lots of people seem to be using - but not doing adverts, just information for our users - Someone hovers over a highlighted word, and with a little bit of Ajax, I can pull the definition out...
I'm not sure (but I'm suspecting) that it would make more sense to do this as I'm storing the string in a table, rather than as I'm pulling it out ready for use (don't want to be slowing my end users down )
Any ideas?

Dec 14, 2005After testing out the application i write on the local pc. I deploy it to the webserver to test it out. I get this error.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of a char data type to a
datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
Notes: all pages that have this error either has a repeater or datagrid which load data when page loading.
At first I thought the problem is with the date, but then I can see
that some other pages that has datagrid ( that has a date field) work
just fine.
anyone having this problem before?? hopefully you guys can help.

Converting A Data Type Double To A Type Float Using A Data Adapter && SSCE 3.5

I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:

This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.

It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.
COnverting Numeric Data Type (Oracle) To Date Data Type Using SSIS
Mar 7, 2007We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Convert Text Data Type To Smalldatetime Data Type
Oct 9, 2007I have a field that is currently stored as the data type nvarchar(10), and all of the data in this field is in the format mm/dd/yyyy or NULL. I want to convert this field to the smalldatetime data type. Is this possible?
I've tried to use cast in the following way, (rsbirthday is the field name, panelists is the table), but to no avail.
SELECT rsbirthday CAST(rsbirthday AS smalldatetime)
FROM panelists
the error returned is "incorrect syntax near 'rsbirthday'.
I'm rather new to all things SQL, so I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm actually doing.

Bulk Insert Task Failing On Data Type Conversion For A Destination Column Of Type Bit
Jul 6, 2006I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.

I would like to store the current date & time in a column in a table. This column is a smalldatetime column called 'lastlogin'.

This code works fine on my local machine and local SQL server. However at the client side this code results in the error as mentioned in the subject of this thread. I first used 'datetime.now' instead of 'getdate()', but that caused the same error. Then I changed the code to 'getdate()', but the error still remains.
The server at the client is running Windows Server 2000 UK . My local machiine is running WIndows XP Dutch.
Maybe the conversion from Dutch to UK has something to do with it. But this should be solved by using the 'Getdate()' function..... ?
Connection Type Limitations When Using XML Data Type In SQL Task

For some reason I can only get this query to work if I use an ADO.NET connection type. If I try to use something like the OLEDB connection I get the following error:

Can anyone tell me why the SELECT ... FOR XML PATH... seems only to work with ADO.NET connections?

Sep 2, 2014I have table of standardized data that I'm merging into from an Import table.
This import table may have the [ContactName]. I one row in the import table has the contact name then every row would have the contact name.
What I'd like to be able to do is something like this in the UPDATE portion of the Merge (I don't care about the insert phase, since I can insert a null [ContactName] since I'm not overwritting an existing [ContactName]

Is anything like that possible and if the code above works it would only work on a row by row bases. Is it possible to figure out if any [ContactName] has data and if so possibly overwrite an old [ContactName] with a null?
Import Data From Excel Sheet Dynamically.

Curently I am using a DTS package which is used to import data from Excel sheet into sql dollar table.
Now, the no. of Excel sheets is more than one and everytime the DTS package and VB Code has to be updated and sql dollar tables has to be increased to the no. of Excel sheets available.
The DTS package being executed by VB Code(.EXE).
How can I modify the DTS package and VB Code so that the import can be done dynamically irrespective of no. of Excel Sheets.
If anybody have a solution for this ,

Date, RowType, OrderNo, Value
01-May, New, A1, 100

01-Jul, Invoiced, A1, -90
What I need to be able to do is somehow select based on a day, the total value of open orders. Â I have tried to do this in the database but it becomes fixed and quite cumbersome (this is a simplified example in reality i have line information and line component information).I am not hugely skilled with MDX and SSAS but know there are some semi-additive functions i want somebody to be able to pick a day and have the total value of only open orders.

Like if i have added or removed any tables from SQL DB then when i run SSIS package it should export that table with data to Access file. is there any easy way to do this. if it is not them please someone please tell me which controls should i look at and which technique i should use to do this.

I have a couple of CSV files to be loaded
Instead of creating a separate task for each file , can I combine them together into a single task
I was thinking about using a ForEach container
This approach works if the number of columns in all the CSV files is same
But in my case it is not
So what I want is a script task that dynamically modifies the mappings
Can I do this?
I was browsing the net and I found certain code which uses IDTSExternalMetadataColumn90, MapOutputColumn etc.
But the code was creating a new package for each mapping
I couldn't understand the code
So can you please help me with this?
My script task should modify the mappings in my data flow task
For e.g.
If I have 3 columns in my CSV and 3 columns in DB, they should be mapped in the same order
P.S. I do not want to use configurations

Reporting Services :: Displaying Data In Parameter Dynamically
Apr 20, 2015I want to set the default value of the parameter based on the query result, when the current_status parameter is set as "opened" I want a certain date value to be displayed in the next parameter (start date), if it is set as closed I want a different date value to be displayed in the next parameter (start date), so I created the dataset with the query given below and assigned the default value to the query fields start and end date, however my Report parameters are not changing as expected.
