Any Way To Export Table To Excel File With Leading 0s?

Feb 7, 2008

I have to export about 50 excel files from different tables. Some tables contain leading 0s in the columns. If I use bcp to export to xls file, the leading 0s will be missing. If bcp to csv or txt file, there will be no issue at all. But I have to export to xls file in order to let client update that xls file and reload to tables again.

Is there any other ways to do this task?

Thanks in advance.

Export Table To Excel With Leading 0s

Feb 7, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to export bunch of tables to excel files, and some table columns contain leading 0s. I tried to use bcp and found that it's not possible to directly export to excel file with leading 0s. I don't want to export to txt or csv file format since the client needs to update excel file as well.

We now think to use SSIS to do the transformation, but got problem. I used OLF DB as source, Excel as destination. I directly connect OLF DB to Excel destination, but always got error message which said unicode cannot convert to non-unicode. Can anyone explain how I get this error since we don't use unicode in the tables, and I make sure the table excel created used varchar and smallint?

Thanks in advance.

Importing An Excel File Dropping Leading Zero...

I'm importing a excel file in to my database but once the file imports, it drops off the leading zero off of the account number. I have figured out my data types and I'm using (DT_NUMERIC) on that particular field. Is there a way to keep that leading zero?

Export To Excel File

Jun 4, 2006

I've created a dts package that exports data to an excel. The data exports okay, but I'd like to make a few changes on how the data is exported.

First, when the data exports to the excel file, it always creates a new excel sheet. How can I map the data to the existing sheet in the Excel file? I have an existing sheet named 'Sheet1'. I've deleted the other two sheets in the excel file, so there is only one sheet. When I created the destination table in the dts package for the data transformation task, I specified the name as 'Sheet1', but when it exports, it creates a new sheet named 'Sheet11'. I haven't been able to correct this.

Second, I'd like to either ammend data to the last row in the excel file, which I'd have to know the last record that was inserted from the SQL table. Or probably much easier, simply drop the existing sheet in the excel file and simply re-create and insert.

How can I do this?

Thanks,
-D-

Issues With Export To Excel File

Jul 26, 2007

I need to do a simple task. I have a oledb source which pulls data from sql server, creates an excel file abc.xls and dumps it with the Excel destination at remote location.

I need to create this file at runtime. However, when i give the location, the Excel Destination expects the file to be there for the Mapping of the source columns with destination ones.

My tasks are
1. Creating a table for the worksheet in Excel connection
2. Select from source table and write in Excel Destination

Will appreciate your response.

Export To Excel File Too Large

Oct 27, 2006

I can't find the answer to these problems. I'm using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I have a report with 15,036 rows and about 15 columns. It utilizes a table and a report header and footer. One column has data containing hyperlinks to another report.

1) When I export this report to Excel, the result is 14.2MB file. Why is this file so huge, and how can I make it smaller?

2) Is there anything I can do to prevent the inclusion of the hyperlinks in the exported Excel file?

Thanks,

Rosie

Bloated File Size - Export To Excel In SSRS 2005

Mar 22, 2007

Hi

When I export a report to XLS, I get a huge file size, and performance really takes a hit.

When I copy the Excel Data, and Paste Special - Values into a new excel, the file size shrinks considerably again.

When I export to CSV instead, the file size is halved, and the processing time comes down from 5-6 mins to 10 seconds.

I use SQl 2005 with SP2, so some of the old problems with RS2000 do not apply.

I suspect SSRS uses XML to export to excel. Is there some way I can get over this problem?

TIA

Export Dynamic Pivot Table To Excel

Feb 26, 2015

I know that this is an Excel question, but I guess it is much more likely that an SQL person using dynamic pivot tables had stepped on this, rather than any advanced Excel user.

I am exporting a dynamic pivot table to Excel through a Stored Procedure. If the Stored Procedure that executes the dynamic pivot table returns 7 columns in one run, and 4 columns in the following update, then I have 3 orphaned columns that are still displayed in the spreadsheet. There isn't any content related to them, but the empty columns with their headers are bothering enough.

I've been trying to play with the data connection properties, but nothing deletes unused columns from former data executions.

Export Data From Excel Into An Existing SQL Table

SQL 2012 :: Retain Leading Zeros While Exporting SSRS Report To Excel

I have a query in a SSRSreport that returns a value that looks like '012345'. The value looks fine on the report preview screen.

When the report is exported to excel, that value is displayed in a cell as '012345'. When I click out of the field, excel is dropping the leading zero and converting the value in the field to 12345.

Why is this happening and i have converted the value as string as well using expression.

Table Data Export To .sql File.

Nov 16, 2006

Rookie qustion here quys,
Using SQL Sever 2005 Express and Visual Web Devoloper Express.
I'm trying to get data from my local SQL sever database to my shared hosting database. SImple enough but...
1.) GoDaddy does not allow remote connections to the DB server
2.) With GoDaddy you can't just upload an .MDF file to your remote directory and script a connection string. You have to reference the DB server. Can't upload DB file to DB server.
As a work around, I've seen several .sql files that have all the T-SQL that will create a database and tables then insert the data. I've google'd extensively and searched several forums with no luck as to how to export my local data to file. I could then copy and paste into an online utility GoDaddys has to insert the data.
Is there a relatively easy way to export table data to a .sql file??? When I try using SQL Server Management Studio Express and "Scipt Table As> Insert To> File", It just gives me something like the following...
INSERT INTO [pubs].[dbo].[authors]           ([au_id]           ,[au_lname]           ,[au_fname]           ,[phone]           ,[address]           ,[city]           ,[state]           ,[zip]           ,[contract])     VALUES           (<au_id, id,>           ,<au_lname, varchar(40),>           ,<au_fname, varchar(20),>           ,<phone, char(12),>           ,<address, varchar(40),>           ,<city, varchar(20),>           ,<state, char(2),>           ,<zip, char(5),>           ,<contract, bit,>)
Plenty of data in this table, no data in script   ???
Can SQL Server Management Studio Express do what I wanting to do? If not, any suggestions? Know of a better hosing company?
