Application Failed. When Clicked On The Sqlexpr.exe File.

May 28, 2006

Hello

I have the sql server 2005 express edition. the software stops during the setup and gives me a "failed" message. All other software of express edition are working fine. I am getting the problem only when I am dealing with sql server 2005 express edition. I made sure to deleate all the old version of sql server. uninstalled all the sql server files which were in my computer prior to download the new one. However I am still in troulbe.

As someone suggested that one should uninstale the sqlmsi file so I did that too. Still samething. Any help please......

Want To Highlight Report Row Clicked In Document Map - How?

Aug 16, 2007

Greetings,

We use a document map on several of our larger reports. The navigation feature is nice and causes the report to jump to the page that contains the document map entry that was clicked. However, we would also like to highlight the row in the report pane that matches the clicked document map entry. We want to do this to make it easier for our report users to see (in the report) the row they clicked in the map.

Can this be done? If so, how?

Thanks,

SQL Security :: User Login Failed For Web Application

Nov 19, 2015

We have a Web application that requires user authentication.  We have a Login Page for user's to login and be authenticated.  We also manage the user accounts using SQL Server Membership Provider.  We created aLogin user in SQL Server and used this user's privileges to connect to SQL Server in our website's connection strings.  Example, in our Web.config file, the connection string is:

<connectionStrings>
  <addname="MyConnectionString"connectionString="Server=MYSERVERNAMESQLSERVER2012;Initial
Catalog=MyDatabase;User Id=TUser;Password=MyPassword"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>

The problem now is when a user logs in, it's throwing an error that TUser's password has already expired.  We did not enforce the password policy and expiration date for this user.  So, I'm wondering why it's giving me this error.

Login Failed For 'user' (Application Role)

Oct 16, 2006

I've created a database in SQL Express and I have a Windows form attempting to connect to it through SQL Authentication. Connection string:

private string connString = @"Data Source=.sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=SQLTestDatabase;User ID=SearchAppRole; Password=password;";

The role I have added to the database is an Application Role. It has been added to the Database permissions with Grant checked for "Select" and "Authenticate".

If I test this with query analyzer, it returns expected results (if I remove Grant from 'Select', it fails)

sp_setapprole 'SearchAppRole', 'password'

select * from recipe

If I edit my connection string (for testing purposes) to use the sa account, the application can connect and run the Select statement:

private string connString = @"Data Source=.sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=SQLTestDatabase;User ID=sa; Password=sa_password;";

However, I cannot get the application to successfully logon and run the select statement when using the user id and password of the Application Role. I get error:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'SearchAppRole'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj

I can't find much information on Application Role...I just want one basic permission for the application as a whole. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Running SSIS Package From Asp.net Application Failed

Aug 11, 2006

I have an asp.net web application and a web service (both of them are created in VS 2005 - asp.net 2.0). They are located on the same web server. In both web.config files, I have set <authentication mode="Windows"/> and <identity impersonate="true"/>. Also, configured the IIS settings to use Integrated Windows Authentication and unchecked the Anonymous access (for both). The web service is called from the web app, so I have to pass credentials for authentication to the web service. The web service loads and executes a SSIS package. The package and all the other sql objects are located in the sql server 2005 (windows server 2003 - the same server as the web server).

When run the web service from develop environment (vs. 2005), I get whatever I expected. When call it from web application, however, the package failed (no error message).

In the SSIS package, there are three connection managers €“
· A: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 Ã connectionType=OleDbConnection
· B: .Net Providers SqlClient Data Provider à connection type=SqlConnection
· C: Native OLE DB Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server à connectionType=OLEDB

After ran the web application and check the sql database, I can tell that the package was reached and when through the first two steps (clear some records in table_1 and extract some records from table_2 ) which relate to the connection manager B €“ ADO.Net connection. The remaining steps failed which are related to the connection managers A & C.

From SSIS package log file, found that the user credentials (domain and username) were correctly passed from web service to sql server 2005 at the first two events, but the credentials (or operator) changed from domainABCuser123 to NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE after packageStart. Then, it complains €¦ either the user, domainABCserverName$, does not have access to the database, or the database does not exist.

I think the credentials are passed ok but some setting related to the Analysis services are not correct - complaining start from there. Any clues?

Please help and thank you all!

Problem Login Failed With Installed Application

Feb 15, 2008

I have an application that uses an MDF file as a database. Debug mode of application on developing machine works fine.
I synchronize my project to my home computer so that I can work home too. (I use AllwaySync for synchronisation, it copies newer file from the old location overwriting the old ones).

I also have a setup project in my solution for that app.

When I create and install the application on my local computer everything works fine. But when I install it one a different computer and then run it, it cannot connect to database. The error occures while conencting to database saying:

Code Snippet
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program Files........VBDB.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5error not found)".
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program Files........VBDB_log.ldf". Operating system error 5: "5error not found)".
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'EKAROMAEka''.
File activation failure. The physical file name "C:Program Files........VBDB_log.ldf" may be incorrect.

the second time I try run my application I get the following error (and all following tried where resulted in this error):

Code Snippet
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'EKAROMAEka'.

These exceptions are caught by "try catch" when feeding data into DataGridView om my main form.

I have the sam username and password on my Home and Work computers.

I'm not very good at MSSQL security. I don't know how to solve this problem. I can't even understand wheather this is a security that's built in an MDF file or some kind of a Database server issue.

the connection string that I use for connecting to SQL Server is this:

Code Snippet
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|VBDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=False

Thanks in advance.

Ok, this seems really straightforward, but I'm completely lost.  I created a sqldatasource control that uses an INSERT stored procedure. I can click on test it tests just fine, inserts everything into the database.Now, I want this sqldatasource control to fire when a button is clicked, but I have no idea how to do this, I looked at the parameters and cant find an execute or anything like that to use. Let me know how to execute this sqldatasource, it'd really help me out. How To Wait Till View Report Is Clicked?

Feb 13, 2008

I provide default values for parameters, but we need to wait for the user to click "View Report" before the report is run. It is an expensive report to run, and the user needs the defaults, but also needs to be able to change them before execution. I cannot find a setting for this. Is there a way to do this that does not involve adding dummy parameters? (that's too tacky a solution!)

It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page.
 Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer.

Windows Mobile 5.0 Application &&> Xml File &&> Sql Ce 3.5

Mar 12, 2008

Hi there, i am building a mobile app using vs 2008, the app has about 8 - 12 forms that collect data.. i am thinking of

i am trying to decide how i want to save the temporary work data while the user fills the data collection forms.

when the user selects to create a new report, i will

create a new xml file...
as user moves from form to form, i will update the file
when the user has finished filling up all the data i will create a transaction and insert the data into the sql ce database and delete the file...

i will be using sql ce 3.5
i think it supports transactions
i think it also supports identity.... i am using sql management studio 2005 standalone , so i cannot visually modify the 3.5 sdf.,..,. is there a tool for 2008 that will let me visually modify the table(s)? i dont want to use the 2008 feb community edition...

is there a better way to do this? should i skip the xml and go directly into sql ce insert (for the first record creation) and updates? i think this will be a performance killer on a win mob devilce (5.0)

p.s. i cannot store data in a class, and then commit the class to the transaction because if the application crashes i will loose class data, so xml file will be needed.,

suggestions?

Failed To Generate A User Instance Of SQL Server Due To Failure In Retrieving The User's Local Application Data Path

Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). RESOLVED RESOLVED An Attempt To Attach An Auto-named Database For File &&<file String&&> Failed &&>&&>&&> But ONLY After SSE Reinstall

Sep 16, 2007

RESOLVED RESOLVED RESOLVED

DOH! When I rebuilt the OS, I changed the data partition ID's, and didn't remember to change them in the connetion strings

Not great, but better than continuing to bang head against wall.

Would like to say to MS appreciators that the VS2005 reinstall actually went quite well, considering.

===========================================================================

I built an app, works fine. Had the development environment working fine (VS2005 (SP0) and SQL Server Express). It had been stable for months, no problem.

Then I had to reinstall XP Pro...(finally threw too many conflicting programs into it, I guess...)

I managed to get VS2005 reinstalled ok. However, when I opened and compiled my existing app in VS2005, using Cassini, I got the dreaded error:

An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <file string> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.

I also get this error for the compiled copy of the app on the same machine, running on IIS. (Where it also previously worked fine).

The Connection strings are all of the form

connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=(specific file string).MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"

I appreciate that there are zillions of posts on this issue. I'm hoping that someone might know why this should happen in this particular case.

The thing that's different about this case is that the app was working fine; I have the app deployed on a demo machine and also on a remote server as well as on the development machine.

The only thing that changed is that there was this fresh install of SQL Server Express.

I tried using >> sp_configure user instances enabled','1';RECONFIGURE <<< in SSMSEE, which took, but didn't help.

So something is different in SSE. Since the app is stable everywhere else, I REALLY don't want to go through and adjust the connection strings...MUCH better to figure out what SSE needs to be happy with the existing connection strings...as it was before.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

EDIT----TRIED SOME THINGS:

Changed folder and file permissions to allow ASPNET full access to the .mdf's and log files (though never had to do this before on the development machine.) No change...

Can see the table contents within the .mdf through SSMSE, and also through Server Explorer in VS2005.

So because the problem happens with both IIS and Cassini, I'm assuming it's got to be an issue between ASPNET and SSE.

EDIT --- TRIED SOME MORE THINGS:

I dimly remember that when I had this problem before, it was that the error message was too "dumb". It wasn't my file that had the permissions problems, it was that the SSE System Databases had to have permissions with respect to ASPNET.

I tried to set that up but I'm a complete newb on this area, so I don't know if I did it right. In SSMSE I created a Login for MyComputer/ASPNET, and gave it all permissions and roles, and then made it an owner for the four system databases...but no joy.

Any pointers on this last piece would be helpful.

EDIT - MORE INFO

The error details

[SqlException (0x80131904): An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <filestring>.MDF failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.]
